What a cue spot! My friend and I popped into Cooperage on a recommendation from the hosts at the restaurant we had been waiting for a reservation at. So glad we did! We sat at the bar and were greeted by two friendly bartenders, who handed us the coolest menus I’ve ever seen – the wine list was affixed to am empty wine bottle, and the whiskey list on an empty whiskey bottle! So cute and totally set the tone for the experience. We each ordered a glad of red wine, per the bartenders recommendation. Great pours and reasonably priced. The atmosphere was woody ands rustic, the perfect combination of trendy and cozy. I loved Cooperage and hope to stop back in the next time I’m visiting Philadelphia – such a great find and I hope to try some of their food next time!

This is my favorite small bar/restaurant in the city. Great food, great specials. I call this place my cheers bar. Because every body knows my name haha.

Came here on New Year’s Eve with a few friends to celebrate before seeing the fireworks… at first, I wasn’t impressed — my one friend and I tried to order a few different whiskeys and red wines and were told that because it’s the end of the month, they didn’t have those available. I finally settled on the pinot noir and I have to say, it was quite excellent. The atmosphere was very cozy… and the food was great! At the end of our meal, one of the managers came around and poured us rose’s — a very nice touch, and it was delicious!

We went here last night for NYE and had a great time. The food was great and the service was excellent. They had a deal for the night, $ 25 open bar from 9 – 12. There was some confusion about the deal but once the manager heard about the confusion he quickly corrected it and made sure we recieved the discount. He came to check on us a few times throughout the night and when we were just about to order dessert, he offered us 4 complimentary fried Oreo desserts and champagne. Overall we were very happy with the whole experience and will make sure to come back in the future.

This place is the absolute embodiment of mediocrity from menu, to service, to the crowd that goes there. The one saving grace that upgraded this uninspired experience to 3 stars was our server who advised me on veganizing the Cobb salad — which was delicious but not satiating. comparative to all the other tremendous restaurants in Philadelphia i don’t see a reason to go here ever again. If this place was say in an airport(yes I just compared it to airport food) or in a strip mall in the burbs, maybe I’d give it an extra star for the alcohol selection, but it’s not on an airport or strip mall so I’m passing on a return visit.

So I heard phenomenal things about the whiskey selection at Cooperage so I had to come and check it out. Their selection was solid and their whiskey flights did seem like a well rounded selection. In the event it was a Thursday night we forwent the whiskey flights and opted for cocktails and dinner. The first round was solid, but then the food turned out to be a disappointment. I’ve had many cheeseboards across the city, and this is by far the worst I’ve had. It was a joke, the cheese came out looked like the leftovers in the kitchen– not blocks, literally silvers and crumbles of cheese. The pork and French dip sandwiches won’t exactly knock your socks off, but I would classify them as decent. Overall the service was good, but from the hype and ambiance I had higher expectations on food and some of the cocktails(stay away from the Rose water, maple and whiskey special, tastes like watered down Johnny walker)

We arrived too early for a Saturday evening wedding at nearby Downtown Club and it was cold and rainy, so we looked for a place that was walkable to duck in for a quick drink. I was apprehensive about going to this place because its branding screamed short-lived, tourist-trap, but we found it to be quite pleasant. It had a cozy, festive vibe, we were sat & served immediately by friendly, accommodating staff and the cocktail that I ordered was absolutely lovely. Since we didn’t have time for it, we did not order food.

Came here for a work happy hour today. I always enjoy my time here. I love the girly raspberry sparkletinis in their happy hour menu and they always have a ton of craft beers on draft. Service is always super friendly. For happy hour food I highly recommend the cheesesteak fries, Mac and cheese and pretzel bites. You won’t regret it. And for $ 5 each your wallet will be happy too. Most people don’t notice this place because it’s tucked away in the Curtis center but it’s super cozy in the colder months. It is a whiskey bar but they definitely have a lot of options for everyone. Takes reservations for large parties too.

Their beverages: Good prices for wine($ 8 plus), expensive whiskey! You are better off ordering a cocktail for $ 12-$ 14 than order whiskey a la carte. The drinks are good though! Their food: We ordered the guac and chips because it seemed everyone was ordering it and it was just bad. The chips were stale and the guac was bland. I am definitely not impressed w/the food. Another go to I saw was the pulled pork sliders. I guess those might be okay? But after what was supposed to be homemade chips(they were store bought), I’m not sure I would order any food here again. The outside seating is great, a bit dusty from being outside, but pretty nice on a warm summer night. I would go back for some drinks only and to sit outside. The bar inside is also nice. While our server was nice, we didn’t get napkins for the whole time, even after we asked. A bit of advice: pair the food with the cocktails. It’s sort of BBQ patio food mixed with 1920s cocktails… where’s the olives?

Really enjoyed Happy Hour here! Great space located in the Curtis Center but kinda small and expect a wait to get seated. I appreciate that you can get a booth and still order from the happy hour menu. BBQ pork sandwich was small but it was delicious. Pretzel bites were also very good… they came out hot but they became hard/stale fast. Enjoyed my experience and would def return.

An excellent review for this bar is long overdue on my part! I’m a Penn student and I visited Cooperage with a large group of friends and classmates for Walnut Walk, a bar crawl down Walnut Street for graduating seniors back in May. The beer was good and the snacks were well-priced and tasty for some hungry college students — but why I am really here is the PHENOMENAL service! The gentleman at the bar(I didn’t catch his name) was so attentive and went out of his way for us. He made sure we were taking advantage of the Walnut Walk discounts when we were about to order a full price drink. When I couldn’t decide which beer, he asked me what my favorites were and let me taste a few different ones. When we sat at a table outside, he carried stools to us and made sure we were comfortable. I was extremely impressed with my experience at Cooperage and hope to return soon!

My mom, sister, and I were meeting a family friend for a quick dinner before a show at the Walnut Street. It was a quiet Sunday, and the restaurant was pretty empty. I was in the mood for something on the lighter side, so I ordered the Coop salad with chicken on top. My only negative for my salad was the chicken. It lacked any seasoning or real flavor. That being said, the rest of my salad was great. First of all, it was huge. A gigantic salad beautifully arranged with a large number of toppings(cucumbers, red peppers, avocado, carrots, apple, egg, tomato, black beans, cheddar cheese). The dressing, a lemon-thyme vinaigrette was nice and well-balanced. Overall, I was really satisfied with my salad and would definitely order it again. My mom also ordered a salad, the ‘Power Spinach’. She liked her salad a lot. Again, large portion. My sister ordered the Pulled Pork BBQ sandwich, which she enjoyed, but didn’t see the cranberries listed on the menu and didn’t care for them. The pork was tender and flavorful — a nice balance of sweet and spicy. Our friend ordered the Pulled Pork Nachos, which came on a huge plate heaped with chips and covered in pulled pork. The nachos were a hit! Service was on the slower side, but incredibly friendly and personable.

What a lovely and easy dinner. Al fresco along the 7th st side of the historic Curtis Center building in Washington Square. Tried a few drinks. Gi-Gi’s Giggle Juice was the best, with one person trying the Flim-Flammed Farah(eh…). Dinner was tasty all around. This place always has fairly solid food and tonight was no different. I had the chicken Caesar, which is dressed with a house-made dressing that’s a cut above what one would normally find. The Cooperage burger was outstanding. Huge patty, and phenomenally juicy with a topping of bacon, Gruyère and beer braised onions. But the barbecue sauce– wow. Seriously. Made with La Colombe Coffee and whiskey, the BBQ sauce just tops an already great burger. The chicken caprese and crispy chicken are two variations on a theme– both really nice. One is healthier and the other just looks better. You can guess from the names which is which. On the caprese, add the avocado. One last note– great service. We’d just come from Stratus on the roof of the Kimpton and paid $ 160 for seven bad drinks, snacks and dismally awful service. Cooperage service stands strong on its own. In contrast and measured against local competition it’s just amazing.

The food was just OK and the service was«mehhh» given that it was a busy Sunday evening. We saddled up to the bar and ordered a bottle of Malbec and a few starters. The starters came out at the same time and were OK. The bartender filled our wine glasses nearly to the top of the wine glass. At the risk of sounding a little crazy, this pretty much ruined the evening for us(the wine was also warmer than it should have been). Anyway, it turned us off to the rest of the experience. There are lots of TVs which kind of makes it more of a sports bar rather than a better bar/grill with superior food. It’s not bad; it’s not great. At the end of the day, we wanted to visit it to explore the whiskey and bourbon list. It was not as extensive as we have seen at other places in Philadelphia, even ones that you would not think of for great whiskey and/or bourbon.

This was a random and delightful find! I found this place through a couple of friends who were visiting from California. While I was at work, they toured the historic sites and found this place inside the Curtis building. I was meeting them up for happy hour and was intrigued when they told me to meet them at a place that I’d never heard of before. When I arrived a bit before 5pm on a Thursday, there wasn’t many people in the bar. But soon enough, the place start filling up. This must be the place to go for people who work in this area. This bar has a great happy hour, good deals on wine and beer, and obviously had a great selection of whiskey. My friend is a big whiskey lover and was absolutely ecstatic when our bartender, Rachel, knew how to make a Sazerac! Apparently, this is his favorite drink and not many bartenders know how to make it without looking at a recipe. I was so entertained as she took out the glass and started coating the sides with vermouth. The Sazerac was quite good – I tried some myself. Since my friend had his idea of the«perfect» Sazerac, he commended her and offered her advice. Rachel was eager to get tips and appreciated the critique. Even better, she made the few changes(added a bit more whiskey and bitter to make it less sweet), and served it to my friend. She was phenomenal and really made our visit to this bar memorable and fun! Overall, both bartenders were very attentive and nice. My glass of house merlot was never empty for more than a few seconds. We also had the soft pretzel with the cheese and mustard sauce, which was really good. I’ll make sure to stop by the next time I’m visiting the historic sites – this is definitely my favorite bar in this area!

Great place for happy hour! Drink specials are awesome: $ 4 beer /$ 5 wine. Bar service was quick even for our big office grip. We reserved a section of the bar for around 13 of us. The pizza fries were noting special– cheese stick to a few fries, fries got soggy from the marinara sauce and it wasn’t exactly finger food… Guac and chips were perfect for sharing!

My friends and I went to happy hour here on a Monday night after work and were not disappointed. They offer $ 4 drafts, $ 5 wines and a pretty decent list of $ 5 snacks(with plenty of options for my fellow vegetarians). Unlike some places, you can still order off the happy hour menu even if you sit at a table. We got there around 5:30 and stayed until well past 7. The place was crowded but not overwhelmingly busy the entire time. The service was also very attentive which can sometimes be a problem during HHs. My only complaint would be that the kegs were kicked for a few of the beers and they were out of some kinds of whiskey as well. The lighting is also a little dark(we joked it would be good for a first date). All in all, I would highly recommend this as a quality happy hour spot and good if you like wine/whiskey flights!

Food was great and the atmosphere was even better. Giving this 3 stars because our waiter, who admitted to being the bartender trainer, had never heard of a drink my friend ordered. It was a variation of the Moscow mule. Very common. Instead of consulting his coworkers or, heck, even his phone, we had to google the drink recipe for him. Absolutely absurd

With Erin hosting another Flight of Whiskey UYE during the month that she earned the first Black Elite badge to hit Philadelphia, it was the perfect reason to go out to celebrate and try a whiskey bar that I’ve been meaning to try for awhile. And it was a double win since it also led to one of the best happy hours that I’ve imbibed upon. From 4 –7 pm on weekdays you’re able to enjoy $ 4 drafts, $ 5 house wines, and $ 6 mixed drinks. It also includes a well rounded bar snack menu with items that range from soft pretzel bites with stone ground mustard and jalepeno cheddar dip or chicken nachos, to a pulled pork sandwich or veggie quesadilla. for a wine and whiskey bar the draft beer list was pretty well rounded and featured winners from the likes of Neshaminy Creek, DuClaw, and Cigar City. Both the whiskey and wine lists were extensive and well thought out, and it was pretty creative of them to have both listed on the respective type of bottle. for the most part the whiskey list was fairly reasonable priced, and also featured a couple of varieties that were harder to come by. Cooperage also got extra bonus points over other Philly whiskey bars due to how awesome their whiskey flight special is. choose any four from the list and you get to enjoy a flight of half ounce pours for the price of your most expensive selection. If you have your eye on that $ 20 aged Jameson or higher than its best to enjoy it solo, but its the perfect way to better familiarize yourself with a few of the $ 10 – 12 options. Whether they’re fans of whiskey or not, Cooperage is definitely going to be a happy hour spot that I recommend to anyone looking for a solid option in Center City.

Not bad. They have some interesting beer on tap, however nothing was really calling out to me on the list. We moved on after a drink. The staff was friendly, eager to get us set up with drinks or food. I was surprised how quiet it was there. There were only a couple of other small groups on a Friday night. I like the look of this place, next time I come by I’ll be ordering a cocktail.
