Decided to go on a one-woman yarn crawl today and ended up here. Initially I forgot to write down the address, but saved their number on my phone and called to check. I mistook the man who answered for a recording initially — it was a very smooth and well rehearsed greeting okay? — and promptly got my query answered(8200 block of Germantown ave). As of May 2015, the lot next door in under construction for what I believe is to be a supermarket, so there wasn’t much to block my line of sight. However I still would have missed the shop if it weren’t for the sign — it’s in this converted house and the yard is allowed to grow lush enough to resemble a Miyazaki Film. I entered and was promptly greeted by Jim, who requested that i leave my iced coffee on the hutch in the entryway(fair enough) and continued to engage me in conversation. He even explained to me the merits of the Dutch Heel and twisted stitches to prevent sagging in Toe-Up socks. And he didn’t hover after I pardoned myself to browse(yay!). So far as the stock goes, it was a combination of: — Sweater quantities of Cascade 220 — A wall dedicated to mohair — Section specifically for«baby» yarn — Several yarns I thought were gone forever(i.e. Zitron Loft, Lane Borgesesia Knitaly((though there was Knitaly with Colorado Yarns labels too)) KFI Gaelic, Schaefer Yarns) — Novelty Yarns — Small selection of books — meticulously cataloged vintage patterns There’s probably even more I’m missing, but the place was very tightly packed, with the exception of the counter, where there were accessories and needles and buttons carefully organized and accessible by request. Jim took the time to explain to me the methods of all the madness. If I’m obligated to complain it would be about the markup($ 12.95 for 220 superwash) but for what it is — a more old-fashioned yarn store nestled away in an old part of town — I had an excellent and friendly experience. I don’t see myself going back too often but will definitely be hitting them up if a find myself needing sweater quantities of something traditional.

Visited in March 2015. Working on a Crochet-a-long and wanted high quality yarn for my item. Found the location easy to find, street parking readily available and the area is respectful of pedestrians.(This actually was my second visit, my first in Feb during a snowy day. The stairs were just fine and had a well mounted rail as well. I liked the shop, well stocked with a wide variety of yarns and all available to be touched. Yes, the store is on the smaller side but oh, what goodies they have! The owner was there and was wonderful with me. Gave me lots of information I asked for and allowed me to make an informed choice. I love hearing about how yarn is crafted and spun so it was a treat. I also liked that when I was ready to wander, he didn’t hover. I also enjoyed fantastic service-my first visit and this one. Asking me if I wished my items winded. I have been to another local place and it was quite the production, had to ask, then told it takes a while! I am also a bit colour challenged and received some help in matching colours. Highly recommend stopping by, it’s a charming shop and staffed with people who know yarn and enjoy people. One last note: if there is a yarn you want, ask. I learned they are able to order almost anything, and in those hard to find colours.

I just happened to come across this lovely yarn shop! They have such an awesome selection of yarn. There are a lot of yarns here that I have never seen. A must visit when you are in Philadelphia!

I love this place. It’s this warm and inviting little store just covered in so many varieties and colors of yarn and people who want to help you make them into something wonderful. I don’t go here enough, and I don’t buy enough, because I don’t have the time or motivation to make the time to knit enough, but sometimes I do wish I would. This place is a gem.

This place is lucky to get one star. The customer service quality is lacking. I have not had just one unpleasant experience but three. DONOT support this 1900-forgotten establishment — if you do, you will have wasted time, energy, and $.

To be fair, I’ve only visited the knit with once. That being said, the reason is because it was difficult to locate and I walked past it 3x. Also, once I found it, the inside was so cramped and packed with materials, I didn’t want to venture beyond the front door. I usually frequent the tangled web, but they didn’t have a hook I needed so I decided to give the knit with a try. If they have great yarns I wouldn’t know because I got my hook at the front counter and never went back
