I couldn’t wait to try Salt and Ash for the first time. I had some co-workers tell me what a great experience they had here for brunch, so my hubby and I decided to come for dinner. First off, adorable décor! Apparently all hand made by the owner and his family. Loved the votives on the table, it helped with my bad eyesight lol. We started with the calamari and«whimsical» chef’s soup. The soup was potato leek which was AMAZING. Order it with a Ceasar salad or a side of toasted ciabatta, trust me! For entrees we picked the«tomato press» which is basically the best craprese styled sandwich I’ve ever had, and the Mary’s chicken breast. Both dishes were 10⁄10 and the portions were perfect. Neither of us left too full or hungry. For dessert we had the house made ice cream. It changes frequently, so our server said, but tonight they had the blueberry apricot! It wasnt overpowering and goes great with the chocolate cake. Excellent dessert to end a great meal. We will be back!

We tried to come here one night on a whim for dinner. We had no reservations and was told there were no seats. So we came back with some friends on a Saturday with some friends and it was just the brunch menu. It’s a small brunch menu. My hubs ordered the burger and I ordered the French toast. My friends ordered the Chilaquiles and the steak and eggs. When the food came out, I balked because the portions were so small! I felt back for my friend that ordered the Chilaquiles because there was literally 2 chips. And these are not cheap plates. The food was good, nothing spectacular, as I thought it was going to be since dinner was so packed that one time. We all left feeling pretty hungry. The place is nice though, cozy with an outside patio. Not sure I’d come back. Maybe to try lunch or dinner menu, but I’d be prepared to eat afterwards haha!

My husband brought me here for Valentine’s Day. Perhaps on any other day, this place would be better. But based on our experience, I can’t say we will be back. Décor is nice, we were seated on the patio. The music selection was awful. It was pretty loud and it was a terrible mix of random music — Journey, Mariah Carey, Creed, 90’s R & B slow jams… who picked that mix of music? Weird. Our waitress was nice, but totally rushed us. They were dead when we got there and not even half occupied by the time we left, but she couldn’t wait to get us out of there. From the moment we sat down, it took us 45 minutes to eat a three course meal and get our bill. People who came after us were out before we were. Why the rush? Beer & Wine — The beer menu consisted of «IPA, Lager, Red, Stout…» etc. It didn’t actually say WHAT beers they had. So my husband asked what the names of the beers were and the waitress sort of knew. He decided on IPA and she said they ran out — yesterday. Now this menu was a special V-Day menu. Why print the IPA on it if they didn’t have it? The wine was the total opposite. All the menu said was the winery name. Didn’t say what varietal of wine it was. I asked the waitress if any of them were Chardonnay, she said two of them. Since I still had no idea of the characteristics of the wine were, I asked her, and she said one was sweeter than the other. LOL ok, i’ll take the not sweet Chardonnay please. The wine was just okay. The menu was prix fixe, start with an amuse bouche, a choice of soup or salad, a choice of three entrees, and no choice of dessert. Two desserts on the menu, you got one plate with both options. Amuse Bouche was foie gras mousse with brandied cherries, dark chocolate, and ginger. It was literally a teaspoon, if that. It did taste good, salty and sweet. But who wants a dessert bite before their meal? For the first course I had the Yellow Pepper Soup, and he had the Baby Red Oak Salad. My soup was quite good, could have used some salt, and wasn’t hot. But, I liked it. His salad had great flavor, loved the ricotta dressing, but the salad was about five bites of food. TINY. I had literally just set my spoon down and the waitress came over, grabbed our dishes and said«ready for second course?» Sure! Thinking it would take awhile. Nope! All the food was clearly pre-made and sitting in the kitchen under a heating lamp, it was brought out in less than three minutes. He had the Short Ribs, which were very tender but incredibly salty. I had the Lobster and Clam Thermidor served with corn bread. The corn bread was hard, dry, and lacking flavor. The lobster/clam mixture was actually very good, but it was so tiny. The lobster tail it was served it must have been a baby, and it was cut in half. I have never seen a lobster tail so small before. It was the smallest dinner I have ever received. Both of our meals were served lukewarm. We finished very quickly since there was barely anything to eat, and then they cleared the plates and brought dessert. We had some sort of peanut butter chocolate crunchy thing that was AMAZING. And then we had what they called a profiterole, but looked more like a hard hot dog bun, with a spread of basil whipped cream, a couple strawberries, and some chocolate. I don’t even know what to say about that. I did tell the waitress the basil cream was not good and she said«yeah, it’s hit or miss.» She cleared our table and then asked if we wanted the bill or if we wanted to hang out. You rushed us all night, why would we want to hang out now? We got the check. $ 65 a person, not at all worth it. I am totally okay with throwing down money for great food, but this wasn’t. $ 150 with the drinks and tax and we were both disappointed and still hungry. Like I said, maybe other nights it’s a better place, but I don’t think we will bother trying again.

First and foremost, I am a Placentia City native and I am so happy to see that the Greek restaurant has left. Salt & Ash is a great little spot for all ages. The atmosphere is fun, funky, and new-age. The food is great and I really hope they look into expanding their menu. I had the Cali Coastal Catch which was Steel-head fish over a bed of asparagus, peas, corn, and tiny ham slices and holiday sauce! It was super good, slightly too salty for me but I was happy with it! Another great thing about this place is I am also a student at CSUF and it is pretty close by to grab something to eat(that is actually good!) and it draws a great vibe before another hour or so of a stressful class! Oh and before I forget, we were sitting outside and they were nice enough to surround me with heaters so I was happy! Can’t wait to come back!

Came here with one of my best friends because I found it on Unilocal.SUCH A GOODCHOICE. We had a blast. Our server was awesome, and I wanted her to sit with us and be our friend HAHAH. Her name was kate or Katie but I remember that she spelled it differently. Anyway, the food was super yum– we got deviled eggs, — cheese plate, and we split a burger. Deviled eggs– so freakin good. And each one had a little crispy kale chip on top. I stole them off my friends eggs and kept them for myself. Sorry Liz! Cheese plate– you have to order it. I promise. I don’t even know what cheese was on it, but it was good. There was also peach jam? Maybe not peach. But it was good. And also some raw honey. Yes please. Burgers– I’m not a huge meat fan, but the burger was totally good and I vote yes on it, if you’re thinking about ordering a burger here.

Really enjoy this place. It kind get kind of business over the weekend. The food is so good. I’ve enjoyed the burger, meatballs, and the homemade pasta. I got the linguine and clams. Incredible! The drink selections introduced my husband and I to our now favorite beer: 329 lager. We will continue to go here until it sucks!

Farm to table freshness that’s kid friendly– yes please! From the baby beat salad you can tell they are not fooling around with the freshness of their ingredients very yummy. Great local craft beer selection. Cute ambiance with a nice patio area ass well. The service was great and Danielle the hostess was basically babysitting for us– much appreciated. I wanna give this place 5 stars but the entrees fell a little bit short flavor wise. I asked for medium but got the impression it comes out well every time. Mary’s chicken breast also need more salt and seasoning. Still a great local farm to table option that we will definitely try again :)

Unilocal review 2016(23⁄100) I really like the food here! This place is really cute! There was no one here for week day lunch so we had a nice meal out on the patio. I like how it’s super close to CSUF. For starters, the Duck Empanadas were really good! It was very light and not too meaty. I got the House Blend Burger with bacon. It was nice to have the lettuce, tomato, onions on the side so you can create your own burger. The meat was cooked perfectly. My friend ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich. The chicken was still moist and it had just the right amount of sauce and flavor. Both burgers were a lot smaller than the pictures on Unilocal.I expected it to be a little bigger. For two of us, our bill was $ 66. One appetizer, an entrée each, one wine and one beer. It’s a little on the expensive side. But this place is really nice. I would love to come try the brunch!

5 stars without a doubt since we had Ms. VIP at our table! She knew exactly what to order, knew the owner, chef and the servers, and had the make-our-own-mimosa station set up ready to go as I got there! Loved that! Thnx, C, you ROCK! Everything tasted fabulous, service was awesome, there wasn’t a single negative thing to say! And thnx to me steering the wrong way, I ended up in the back parking lot instead of driving up and in from Kraemer, which actually turned out to be the right way! Yaaay!!! I forgot the name of the street but the one east of Kraemer. As an added bonus, we were thrilled to celebrate our pal popping her eggs bene cherry! Doing it in style with steak egg benes, not just regular egg benes!!! WoooHoooO!!! Fun, casual, cool spot! Good luck Scott/Scott’s wife — didn’t get a chance to meet her cuz she was bz cranking out the yummy dishes!

I had a hard time deciding on how to write this review. I was very excited to see Salt and Ash pop up over this empty spot that used to be occupied by a tapas place I never tried. I made ressies here and met some friends over the holidays. Party of 7, dinner at @7 pm. Parking is weird if you aren’t familiar with the area but nothing to fret over. Parking lot in the back. Easy access to the restaurant. We were seated immediately and since they weren’t busy they let us sit before our whole party arrived and ordered up some drinks and appetizers. The Dry Ribs were pretty amazing. But it is definitely a small portion. I was eager to try their handmade pasta of the day and the Duroc Pork Tenderloin but alas when it came time to order we were informed that these were«out of stock». I am surprised that they would be sold out of items that are popular knowing weeks in advance they would have a party of 7 especially since their menu really only consists 10 entrees. Not too much to keep track of. So the 7 of us ended up ordering pretty much the same things: Hangar Steaks(5) and Burgers(2). It was pretty sad. Luckily the Hanger Steak was fantastic. Towards the end of the meal our waitress brought out a complimentary order of their Deviled Eggs. We thought it was nice but there were only 4(halves) of them… 7 of us… Although I was excited for a gastropub to open so close to me there definitely seems to be some tweaking and fine tuning for me to come back.

A new farm-to-table restaurant opened up in Placentia! Salt & Ash is the first restaurant that the owners opened together. They get their produce locally, apparently, and even grow some things on their own. Location: find Citi Bank and park in the back. You’ll see Salt & Ash in the corner. Parking is not an issue in the lot that they share with the other small businesses. I made a reservation through Unilocal for dinner on a weekday. I got there ten minutes early, and I was seated within five minutes. The hostess was very friendly. Our server was also super nice, knowing it was my first visit there. Most of the other tables were about to leave by the time I got there for dinner, so they seemed like they just got through their dinner rush. I was surprised to see a few families with young kids since this restaurant was listed as a gastropub. The rest of the crowd on that particular visit was generally a lot older, possibly 40−50s. From their appetizer menu, I ordered the artisanal cheese plate, which was not worth $ 15. The small piece of honeycomb was very interesting though — I love honey! They should have listed the names of the three cheese and pear compote on the menu because now I don’t remember what the server said they were called. The ciabatta slices were actually not bad; that was probably my second favorite on the plate. My fried chicken sandwich was not what I was expecting. I did not like the grilled veggies because they were spicy and they were soggy. They put too much mayo on the top bread. Both of those made the bread soggy. The only good part was the fried chicken. The sandwich comes with a side of fries, but I opted for mac n cheese for an additional $ 2. Their mac is huge, and there is no cheese. The gigantic shells are supposed to capture more flavor. However, it did the opposite. There was no flavor and so lacking in cheese; I had to add salt to make it bearable. Even the bread crumbs sprinkled on top did not help the dish any better. This was the worst dish I had this night. The pork tenderloin was better. The pork was cooked well. I also loved the corn and broccolini. I thought the potatoes were ok, but my eating partner said they didn’t taste great, like other reviewers described. For dessert, I got the bread pudding, which the server raved about. Instead of their usual guava white chocolate flavor, they had blood orange ginger. I thought guava would taste better, but I never tried guava in a bread pudding. Who knows which is better, but the one I had was good. No ginger taste at all; citrus was overpowering. It came out piping hot — they should have waited for it to cool down before spraying the whipped cream on top. I have a video of the cream melting. I also want to point out that the bread pudding was burnt on the sides, so we only ate the middle parts. I don’t think I’ll be back any time soon. They just opened, so I wish them luck for the future.

Was looking really forward to trying Salt & Ash as heard great things. All in all I found it to be a good place but some things were a little hit or miss. My fav dish here was the duck empanadas which were cooked perfectly crisp and served with a lime crema that was to die for — these are a definite order. On the not-so-good side, my friend had to send her burger back twice — once because she asked for a specific no-bun and no cheese order, and the second because it was very undercooked. Another friend also ordered the burger with no exclusions and she said it was very good so I think if you want it without changes you might be okay here. ;) I ordered the shrimp toast which was tasty but truthfully, it was a very small portion for the price. It was literally a tablespoonful of the shrimp mix on top of the brioche, which itself was also not quite what I expected. I also ordered the ‘house lemonade’ — which when I asked the waitress if it was made in-house she said no it’s from a mix. I ordered it anyways and it tasted like it came from a fountain. I was even more disappointed to see it was $ 4 when the bill came. :( On a good note, it is a cute place w a nice ambiance. Service was good except for the order being wrong for my friend’s burger. I know they are somewhat new still so perhaps in time they will find their footing. I will be back for sure as there were other things I wanted to try on the menu and the place has potential to be a four star restaurant. :)

My friend had been telling me about this cute new place that had opened up in her neighborhood that had been getting great reviews. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to have a nice cozy GNO for two… but the folks at the restaurant were more than happy to accommodate our large party of 16. I like to rack up points on Open Table, but the website wouldn’t take a party larger than 8 people. I called the restaurant & they were happy to host us with 2 tables side by side. AMBIENCE: Right when I walked in, I had a good feeling. The space had a modern casual farmhouse feel to it… dimly lit, inherently hipster, but welcoming. I loved the warm & friendly greeting from the hostess and the cozy wood and brick benches in the waiting area, which we never sat down in because we were immediately escorted to our tables. I loved the wood tables & the wood panels on the walls. Very warm and easy. I liked the clever lighting on the walls made from plumbing fixtures. The tables were set with metal trays of silverware and rolls of recycled paper towels on cute dispensers. This added to the casual, non-fussy air of the restaurant. SERVICE: Our server was nice but she seemed a bit harried and overwhelmed… maybe because of the size of our party… or maybe because there was one table with a bunch of kids. Our drink orders were taken eventually but they were not brought out promptly. This is a big pet peeve of mine. The fastest way to a patron’s heart is to bring them their glass of wine or mug of beer. You may be a little late getting back to the table to get orders or to bring out the food, but at least the patron is happy & relaxed with their drink… AND possibly in need of a refill… which will only add more revenue to the restaurant. FOOD: I love small plates and wanted to sample as much as I could from the«SHAREOURHEARTS» portion of the menu… DRYRIBS with sea salt, black pepper, & coriander… piping hot and tasty. DUCKEMPANADAS with Calabrian chii, lime crema, & scallions… I am not a fan of duck, but a lot of folks were raving about this. I had to try it. It was delicious! The pastry of the empanadas was crispy & well seasoned. I liked that there attention was put into the crust & that it wasn’t just a shell for the duck. The duck itself was flavorful & not gamey at all. Loved the crema on it. ARTISANALCHEESEPLATE with roasted ciabatta bread… LOVED the cheeses!!! Thank you for not including any goat cheese. When the cheeses aren’t named, it’s always a gamble, but you gotta trust that the chef is gonna serve the choicest cheeses… one herbed soft cheese, one stinky hard cheese, & one medium cheese that I couldn’t identify but YUMMY. LOVEDLOVEDLOVED the honey comb and how it just ran over the fruit jam & pistachio pieces. I wish there was MORE! The only CON is that we needed more bread to finish the cheeses and I think that we were charged because the server said, «oh, you want another ‘SIDE’ of bread». Don’t like to be nickel and dimed. How much can a few pieces of bread cost when we are already ordering so much food? DEVILEDEGGS with maple braised bacon & crispy kale… This was another fave!!! Loved the careful attention to the crispness of the bacon & kale accents! The deviled eggs were served on a mini leaf of red lettuce. YUMMMM!!! MEATBALLS…with beef, pork, & spicy tomato sauce… this was served on a thick slices of baguettes cut on the diagonal. The spice was there and while the meatballs were good, it was just ok. I wasn’t WOWed. **Sooooo disappointed that they didn’t have the MUSSELS«CIOPINNO» that night! :0( TROUT on a bed of saffron risotto… this was the special for the night which was written on a black chalkboard over the bar area. The fish was cooked perfectly with a nice crispy skin. The flesh of the fish was also nice & juicy. The risotto, however, was tasty but undercooked. A little disappointed. DESSERTS: CHOCOLATELAYERCAKE… my fave. Light & moist with just the right amount of sea salt on the outer layer of the cake to satisfy the salty and sweet cravings. BREADPUDDING… piping hot in a mini skillet. This was good but I liked the cake better. My husband claims that this is the best bread pudding that he’s had. CONS: *The entrance of the restaurant was hard to find. The entrance is NOT on Kraemer. You have to pass the restaurant & the string of adjacent storefronts to park in the BACK, where the entrance is located!!! *Please check bathrooms regularly. *Not really a great place for kids. The environment is set for adults to chill & relax. While there is a Kids’ menu, the kids didn’t really like the food, maybe too mature. OVERALL: I really liked this place & the fact that they cook REAL fresh food. I read in other reviews that this restaurant is known for their«farm to table» approach. I LOVE that!!! I’m not sure what the objective is of this restaurant is but… I hope to see seasonal items used in their future menus to excite and entice folks to come back.

Finally! A great restaurant in Placentia! First of all it’s super cute. Dim lighting & a farm theme. Which fits the farm to table menu. They’ve made a small space very warm and inviting. We’ve been several times and operations are continuing to improve. Which is impressive with all their packed nights! The last few weeks it’s been a full house every time we’ve been even on Tuesday. I’m sure Brad Johsnson’s review had a little to do with that but the creative menu is probably what brings people back. The food is always good and I personally think the prices are right on track with what’s happening right now. I mean go to chain restaurant and get a processed meal for the same price. Sure you get more food but yuck! I’d much rather pay extra for my sides and get fresh original food. Bottom line, north orange county we need this. A nice comfortable place with good food. I’m a fan and they’re going to squeeze us in with late notice tonight, NYE Omg! You better order the bread pudding!!! So good, just order before you have finished your meal. It takes 15 mins. Def worth the wait but why wait

The breakfast here is AMAZING. I had the hazelnut french toast and it was delicious. I like that they give you the syrup on the side, I like to dip my french toast for taste because I don’t like it overly sweet. Honestly for me, because I don’t like overly sweet breakfasts, I hardly used much of the syrup at all. Mostly their butter. :D I ordered a side of hash browns and it was SO flavorful. I was amazed that hash browns could taste that good?! Didn’t need to use any ketchup because it was so good on it’s own. My hubby had the chilaquiles and it was out of this world. I don’t usually like that as a breakfast choice, but I have to say that the next time I come here for breakfast, I may order this dish for myself. We also came one time for dinner. They actually ran out of the pasta special that I wanted to try, so I ordered the red leaf and endive salad and the unadulterated shells and cheese(their version of mac & cheese). The salad was good but I wouldn’t say I was crazy about it. The mac and cheese had good flavor, but the sauce was SO watery? It was mostly at the bottom of the pan. If the sauce were thicker/heavier, it would stick to the shells better and have a lot more flavor. I really want to go back and try their pasta special! The picture on Unilocal looks AMAZING. :) We had the sweet potato pie for dessert and it was really yummy. Not too sweet, just right. Good crust, which to me is the best part of the pie. :) The service is a little slow, but I know they are new, so I would cut them some slack on that.

Some would disagree with me but I really liked my food here. I came for brunch in a party of 4. Started with a very delicious Bloody Mary. It was simple(so no slim jims or shrimp garnishes) and just the right balance of spicy and citrus. The brunch menu isn’t very large. A couple of sweets but mostly savories. I chose the eggs your way, meat and potatoes(the typical breakfast). Ordered mine with over hard, fries and chicken sausage, along with a side of wheat toast. The others in my group all ordered chilaquiles. Service was uneven; we had 2 – 3 different servers come to our table. The food was delayed in coming out, due to a large party in the back, so our food didn’t come out in equal temperatures or delivery. I really did enjoy my meal and I would order it again. Water and coffee refills were plentiful. We did not have dessert since there was a long wait time between when the servers would check on us. They did forget several times jam, water, hot sauce. The place wasn’t super busy but there were several large parties. You will have to have patience. I would definitely go back here again. I would like to try their dinner menu as the other review have got me hyped up. Of note: Parking is a little difficult. I parked initially at the post office but then couldn’t find the door. I had to go to the parallel street to find it(I think Angelina) where there is a dedicated parking lot.

Salt + Ash= SUPERCUTEAMBIANCE!!! I was totally fangirling over the interior… The rustic looking wood walls, wooden tables(regular level and high level), and the open bar was so aesthetically pleasing T___T The server told me that the owner of the restaurant picked out the wood himself!!! SUPERCOOL… AND they had this cool looking window on the side of restaurant. Ya better hit that up for an IG photo!!! I made a reservation at 10:30 on a Sunday morning for our annual secret santa party. The place was pretty empty but around 11:30, the restaurant was almost full! I mean they have been open for only 4 weeks and I say that’s really good for a new place! The brunch menu is pretty small so there’s not much to choose from however, all the dishes were full of flavor and everyone was happy with their meals! We got the salmon and bagel which basically was a build it yourself lox bagel, the chilaquiles which EVERYONE loved, and the steak eggs benedict! Portions aren’t huge but just big enough for you to leave with a happy + full tummy! Everything was good for the most part beside them charging us for 4 mimosas instead of 2 but the manager was very apologetic and took care of it right away. It just took a while to fix and we all needed to bounce for church… So minus 1 star here. Overall, a new place in OC that gives off DTLA restaurant feels. I definitely want to come back to try their dinner menu! Super cute date night spot and good vibes here!

Salt & Ash is great new gastropub addition to the area. They serve farm-to-table style food and do a great job at it. We had the following dishes: Burger and fries($ 16): The burger was pretty good. While it wasn’t an extremely complex burger, the star of the show is the meat. It was cooked perfectly, juicy, and had that awesome beef flavor… a sign that they use good beef. The pretzel bun was pretty great as well as it added a nice chewy texture and surprisingly a nice crunch on the inside of the bun. The fries were also cooked perfectly as every piece was crunchy. This back-to-basics burger makes me happy. Note: I ordered medium rare and it was slightly pink inside which was perfect. I would think medium would be too cooked. Pork Medallions($ 20): This dish was quite tasty as well. The pork was cooked perfectly and the sweet curry sauce on top gave it a unique flavor. The potato fritters that came with it were awesome. While the food did take awhile to comeout(around 30 minutes), the execution of the food was spot on. There are only two downsides of this place. One is that the beer is quite pricey. From $ 8 — $ 10, that is quite hard on the wallet. $ 8 for bootleggers and $ 10 for hop juice??? ouch. The other is that the food is also just a little bit pricey vs portion size. However, I would pay again for the food just because the ingredients were so fresh and this place is local. If Green2Go and Tempo Urban kitchen had a child, this place would be it. 4 stars. If they just lowered the price of the beer …

We made our first visit and enjoyed the experience. The food was good and the service was top notch. But everything was on the pricy side. Here’s what we tried: Duck empanadas — $ 122 medium sized empanadas stuffed with ground duck. Has a little kick to it. Kids enjoyed it. Crust tasted like it was deep fried a little. Coastal catch — $ 19 filet of a medium sized trout w/skin on. Skin was crispy and fish was well cooked. Good but over priced. Will only satisfy dainty appetites. Mary’s chicken breast — $ 18 Smallish breast with drummette. Skin also crispy and cooked well. Chicken was a little salty. Served with Brussels sprouts which were leafed rather than halved. Also over priced. Kids cheeseburger with fries — $ 7 Good. Meat was cooked medium. Kids spaghetti — $ 5 Smallish portion. They allowed us to add 1 meatball instead of purchasing a whole appetizer which comes with 3. Nice customer service! Apple pie($ 8) with vanilla ice cream($ 3) Excellent. Everything homemade. Ice cream scoop was generous and it wasn’t overly sweet. The apple pie was on the thin side. Crust was flaky. We found the service was very friendly and attentive. Our food took a little longer but we were informed along the way. Manager also came by to apologize. The restaurant had dim lighting and the atmosphere is warm and comfortable. We sat inside but the floor plan is very open to the patios. The front patio had heaters and a gas fireplace. The restaurant was busy but not packed for a Sunday evening. Overall a good first visit. We look forward to trying the brunch menu.
