After hearing great reviews, I was interested to try this place for myself! Not only was the atmosphere perfect for a Friday night as it was relaxed with plenty of drink options but it wasn’t entirely crowded until later in the evening either so perfect for dinner around 6 or 7 or meeting friends for a night out around 8 or 9! I can’t comment on the beer but samples were provided to my friend as she decided what she wanted to order. I did notice that they had a good wine selection including local wine options from Mallow Run. They have high table top, low table top, or bar seating available. Perfect for families or friends. Accommodations available for medium sized parties as well. Easy parking. As for the food, I was not disappointed at all. Our waitress was knowledgable on the menu and offered suggestions when requested. I could live off their swan fries alone with multiple options for seasoning and different sauces! Their tenderloin«the stack» sandwich was amazing and enough for two meals as it was huge. My friend ordered the reuben and loved it as well. Only complaint was that their payment system went down and took a while for us to be able to pay our bill. It sounded like this happens occasionally, however the staff was apologetic and kept us updated. Would definitely go back!

We asked Unilocal where the closest brewery to our hotel was located and Black Swan appeared! Between the 3 of us, we tasted the entire beer menu and were quite happy with our selections. I had the Malbec Oak Aged Belguim Tripel and the HefeRoggen. Both solid choices. For dinner I had the mega chopped salad. It wasn’t chopped nor mega. There were large chunks of onion that were completely inedible. Once I removed them, the salad was tasty. Service was solid and the atmosphere was comfortable, despite its strip mall location. I’m hoping to see these beers on tap somewhere in my future travels!

Stumbled across this place while looking for some food while driving thru Indianapolis. The place was pretty empty but the service was slow. The hostess ended up waiting on me so maybe someone called in and they were short staffed. Ordered the house ipa, it was nice and hoppy, but was kinda warm My appetizer and entrée came out at the same time, but I didn’t really mind because they went together pretty well. I ordered the stuffed peppers as an appetizer, they were great and not fried like I was expecting, just small peppers stuffed with chorizo, but were really good The entrée was meatballs, mashed potatoes and green beans. All good, but a little bland, could have used some salt but there wasn’t any salt or pepper on the table. It was nice to eat a good meal and not have to stop in Indianapolis. Pretty cool place to be out in kind of a truck stop looking suburb town. Would give 3.5 stars if Unilocal would let me.

The food was good, as was the service. The lighting is awful, however. I had the seared pork loin, he had the burger. We with enjoyed the food. Largest irritation was the hyperactive kid behind me bouncing around in the booth and pushing me every time. Little jerk, not the restaurants fault though

Service is what really got me here at this place. It took about a good 20 – 30 mins for the waiter to give me my water when I arrived. I’m not sure if he was having an off day, but it didn’t get better through out the night. We had to wait a long time to get refills. Overall food is ok. It’s typically bar food. I would give this place another try in the near future if I’m in the area.

Brewery food done right. We ended up here after our planned stop was permanently closed and we were so lucky to have found it! Friday night and our party of two got seated quickly inside. The patio looked nice but it was too cold for me. Our waitress Kelsey was awesome, made solid recommendations and accommodated my questions and need to sub things out for sides. We tried the 5 pour samples and loved the variety, try the Belgium Cherry — loved it. We both went for entrees, after seeing the pork shank walk by we knew it had to be ordered. Get this! The flavors were Awesome and they use their beer to make it. Meatballs and roasted cauliflower were also great. The manager(i assume) was super friendly and stopped by to see how things we’re. Sometimes I find this annoying, but you could tell it was genuine and that she loved the business. I hope to see this place succeed, we will be back. Cons: parking is tough because the lot is full of people that know this place rocks. It was worth driving around.

Last night was my first and last night at Black Swan. I sat down at the rather small bar that had about six other people at it and had to wait 5 minutes before the bartender(heretofore known as Elusive) felt like coming to see me. Elusive asked if I wanted a drink and after ordering my beer I watched her take food orders from a table of four people, enter it in the computer and then take drink orders from others sitting at the bar. Finally after about ten minutes here comes Elusive, but not with my beer, instead she asked if I wanted a drink. From that point things only got slower… Elusive operates on her own internal clock and apparently nothing can speed that up. The beer was good and the food was decent although its a very limited menu.

If I could take away half a star I would. Let me take you on a little trip. 8:30pm, we walk into the place from the hotel next door. It looks nice, nice patio, people smoking… But, nice patio. Sit down at the bar, it’s small, and a guy moves aside so my co-worker and I can sit down. He starts singing their praises while the bartender tells me it’s going to be a minute, and gives us a menu. 15 minutes later we get to order our first beer. I’ll keep this part short and sweet, the French country ale tastes like bile, and I told her so. She told me I should have given it back, they just tapped the keg, give it 3 or 4 days. Um, I’m passing through, was hoping for a good beer tonight. So we have a beer, order another, Belgian Guise, not as bad. 9:15 rolls around and the bartender asks if we’re ordering dinner, because the kitchen is closing(9:15 on a Thursday night) bar and kitchen close at 10. I tell her yes, give us just a minute. So I order the the pork shank, my buddy orders the double tenderloin. 10 minutes pass, the bartender comes back and says no Pork shank. OK, I get the meatballs and smashed potatoes, with green beans. It gets brought out by I assume the GM or owner, who says she won’t even let the employees have these they’re so good. My buddy’s sandwich is way overcooked, and my meatballs, well, it’s sad, they were raw. Not even browned, ok they were browned, but that’s where it stopped. They were not even WARM inside, completely red. I asked the bartender if I could send them back, and she obliged. Same GM/owner brings my plate back out 10 minutes later(my buddy finished eating 5 minutes ago), and the meatballs are literally boiling hot, microwaved for probably 6 minutes and brought back out. She tells me her cook’s thermometer wasn’t calibrated, and that’s why my food was raw… Not like an actual CHEF would serve RAW meatballs. But don’t worry folks, they nuked em long enough for me to burn my mouth. I didn’t eat them, and the bartender did comp the meal, but I haven’t eaten since 7am, this was dinner, and now I’m sitting in the hotel room, hungry and pissed. As soon as 10pm hit, all the staff was at the bar getting drinks, they didn’t even have to wait the same 10 minutes I did. BOO to you Black Swan Dive.

We stopped in here one evening for a beer. The patio was buzzing, but the restaurant was fairly quiet. We sat in the bar. Service was okay, but not awesome. The hostess was away from her station much of the night, flirting with guys a the bar. Other employees seemed to be wrapped up in conversation, but again it wasn’t a SUPER busy night. I don’t feel like I saw any patrons being ignored. The food served to the table next door looked pretty good.

I’m only giving one star because the food was good. We were there on a Saturday night and and they were not busy. It started out innocent we had to ask for everything from more water to napkins to ketchup. Everything was an inconvenience. The staff is completely rude and horrible. Worst. Staff. In. Indy. We sat with our check on the Table for 10 minutes and finally I said to them it was ready. She came and took it in a very snotty manner and then proceeded to start to talk crap about my husband and I. My husband told them not to talk about us. We walked out. No tip. Absolutely terrible service. Worst in indy. Horrible girls who are too busy talking crap about customers to actually care for their guests. Don’t go here.

The star rating tells you what you need… this place could be so much more if they got their act together. The wait staff appear very friendly with regulars but barely say Hii if they don’t recognize you. It was my first time in, I sat at the bar and the bartender went out of her way to get the kitchen to prepare an item they said they were out of… But she seemed very busy always running out from behind the bar and took a long time to acknowledge me when I first sat down. More interested in small talk with regulars than serving other customers. Food was average, beer selection is God and prices are cheap but I doubt I will ever be back and don’t suggest driving out of your way to come here…

Luv this place. It was louder than usual as we had the bad luck of sitting next to a loud and rowdy group, usually this is a spot you can still carry on a conversation. I introduced my friend to the 10-pc sampler… he liked most of them, but absolutely fell in love with the Belgium Quad. As we had already eaten before we got there, we just ordered their fabulous fried with truffle oil and sun-dried tomato aeoli because you just can not visit here without having those fries.

Never having tried Black Swan, I was excited when I saw the brewpub just across the way from a conference I attended. I pulled into the strip mall and made my way into the building, taking a seat at the small bar. At 3:00, I ordered a five-beer flight for under $ 4 and a bowl of the mushroom risotto(one of the few meatless options) for under $ 7, which was a pretty great deal. I tasted the two IPAs, Pale Ale, Oatmeal Stout, and Quad Belgian. I can’t say I was a big fan of the IPAs and the Pale Ale. They didn’t sit well on my tongue, and I was surprised being that I usually prefer IPAs over most beers. However, I did like the stout and the quad, which were more full-bodied and flavorful. The risotto was cheesy and stick-to-your-ribs with a good amount of cremini ‘shrooms, but I’m not sure if the rice was Arborio. It felt more like a hearty Midwestern casserole than a proper risotto. I overheard people talking about the stuffed peppers and braised pork and coconut rice, and I wish I had come on any other day for one of those dishes. Will I make a trip to Plainfield for them? Eh…

We came here for a late lunch on a Sunday. Place wasn’t busy, which was nice for us first timers. Husband got the ten beer flight they offer; not a bad brew in the bunch. Their cherry hibiscus sour is one of the best sour beers I’ve ever had. Prices are fair for both food and beer. The overall atmosphere is nice, and the waitress we had very friendly and helpful. The stuffed peppers appetizer is a definite must try!

I came here with some friends recently for the first time and we had a pleasant experience. The place is really nice — clean, well decorated, and some TVs in the bar to watch the games. Our server was also good and did a fine job keep up with our food and drink orders. Since none of us had been before we ordered samplers of all ten of their beers(for the very reasonable price of $ 7.50) and then a pint or two after. We also got dinner and I think everyone was happy with their food. I got their tenderloin sandwich and the pork was cooked perfectly — nice and juicy with a good flavor. I also got their fries with truffle oil and Parmesan and wow, those were some good fries. I’d(almost) go back just for those fries! And, unfortunately, I think that’s all I’d come back for. I, along with my companions, didn’t much care for their beers. We each found one(or maybe two?) that we would actually want to drink much of. Yes, I’m giving it three stars, but I don’t plan on making an effort to come here again. Their food and fries were great, along with their service, but it’s a brewery! I can get good food lots of other places — I go to a brewery for the beer. And that’s where Black Swan disappointed. Maybe I’ll go back later to see if they’ve rotated to some better brews, but for now I’ll stay away.

Of the 2 breweries in Plainfield, this is the one I prefer. Reasons why: 1) Their house beers are good. Sometimes their competitor’s down the street are slightly better(depending on offerings), but overall in multiple comparisons, I lean slightly towards preferring Black Swan’s beer. 2) Their fries go really well with the beer, and they normally have other great appetizer options. The rest of their menu can be a bit hit or miss, depending on the season. I do enjoy that they switch up the menu, and that they actually make food from scratch, instead of relying on stuff to fall off of the Sysco truck(like it seems another local beer place does). 3) This is a GREAT place to hang out and catch up with friends. It can get a little bit loud if busy, but no worse than a standard pub. I have never felt rushed by the waitstaff, which is a perk. One thing that consistently seems to be an issue at Black Swan is that their service tends to be a little iffy. We just go in with the attitude that we are going to sit down, hang out, eventually drink orders & refills will come, and we’ll get food. It’s good for us to learn to relax a bit… :-)

The West side of Indy(Avon, Plainfield) lack a local flavor. The endless parade of chains are depressing! Then you stumble upon the Black Swan. The Black Swan is a nice brewery offering one of the only patios on this side of town. They also have plenty of seating on the inside. Lets talk beer — if you want it, they have it. I tasted a chile beer that was awesome. You can also order a cocktail or wine. The menu is very good — from little sliders to fries covered and smothered in gravy and cheese curds. I would recommend that dish. The stuffed peppers burst in your mouth with flavor. The prices are very reasonable. The service is good — not once have I had a bad experience. Stop in for a snack or dinner… oh heck just stop for the beer!
