Ok 5 stars BUTWAIT! It is currently 9:10 pm on a Saturday and I have certain craving. That craving is 11″ of buffalo chicken goodness. But as you may have noticed this delicious sandwich is out of reach, for The Original Steak and Hogie of Plainsboro has closed up shop for the night. From my observations of friends, family, and out-of-towners I’ve brought here, this shop would THRIVE if it were open into the wee hours of the night. Friends who attend Rutgers, THEBIRTHPLACEOFNEWJERSEYGREASETRUCKS, say that if this shop were in New Brunswick, they would be regulars after a heavy night of «studying». Therefor I give it five stars but the tragedy, is that tonight I will be going to bed hungry because nothing else can fill this internal void…

We had just moved to this area and were in some dire need of a good hero!(I’m a NYer and still can’t use the phrase hoagie). Not always at least! Anyway, these were delicious! The bread is incredible also. We got one chicken parm hero and one Italian with Italian meats and cheeses. Really happy we found this place so close by.

The cheesesteak here was excellent, and so were the fries that came with it. They offer a full sub, a half sub, and a mini. The half sub is 11″ long and way too much to eat. I had the mini sub, which is 5″ long but more than enough food. The sub and fries cost less than $ 7. Definitely great value and a good meal. There is a good selection of subs, so I recommend giving this place a try.

I had a tremendous cheesesteak. My girlfriend had a wonderful roast beef grinder. We got the curly fries. Everything was perfect. The half was enough to make me full but not uncomfortably so(and I’m a big guy). The bread was absolutely perfect. Usually, I consider the bread a transportation device for the meat and cheese, but it really added a lot to the meal. So, yeah. A+. I will be back.

I ordered a chicken cheesesteak with peppers, onions, mushrooms and marinara sauce… it was average… not the best… I may give them another try but it won’t be a cheese steak

Stop in this placed be use it was the closest to my job site in town. We ordered 6 Heros and 2 Salads. I had the double cheese steak hero and it was great. The meat was fresh, juicy and not over cook. The bread as soft, but still had the sub texture that I love. All the other guys said they enjoyed their meals. Good experience over all. Be back to try something different tomorrow.

Always a good cheese steak. Very friendly staff. But at the same time, it can be inconvenient.

Absolutely delicious buffalo chicken hoagie. The best in the area. The staff is friendly and fun. Great choices. Soups during lunch are delicious too. Bread is soft and fresh and the meats are just perfect. Cheese French fries are a delight despite the heart attack they may give you 30 years down the road or sooner maybe. After a couple of months of going to the place, an Indian guy, the owner of the franchise(I guess) actually said I should be eating more at home and less here. So you understand how much I loved this place until I moved.

This has nothing in regards to their food but how they maintain cleanliness within their staff. We came on saturday around lunch time and it was not busy inside. I noticed as time went on when the cashier was calling out for people’s order he would be holding down the front, phones, money and taking down orders. What I didn’t expect is that the cashier would be handling the food and cooking too. Probably made my stomach churn when i saw this. The exchange of money, wrapping the food, and then proceeded to dip his hand into the food trays to cook. Mind you there was a cook too. I hope that the owner establishes a better cleanliness protocol and that it is unsafe for their employees to handle food and money without proper handwashing in between. At least have the two staff members stay in their area. One handle the money and the other cook.

Really great cheesesteaks! I am a cheesesteak hound and I was so happy with the basic cheesesteak that I ordered. I also got cheese fries and they came in the bag like others said– which is awesome for tossing them in salt! Basic place, walk up counter to order, not lots of seating. But, go for the food!

For an area that is light on good eats, this place stands out big-time! Great sandwiches and soups. I’ve driven here in a blizzard, just for the buffalo chicken cheesesteak — it’s THAT good.

The buffalo chicken cheesesteak is unbelievable!!! This was a little out of the way in a road trip but most definitely worth the trip. Mouth is watering just thinking about it … We had the hot wing sauce, I believe they have a nuclear level of heat but hot was spicy enough for me. The 11″ is a reasonable price and is good for a meal. They also have a 22″ and 5″ option. Must try

Great place!!! I’m devoted to the triple cheese steak and crab fries with cheese. Vinegar fries are a close second. They also have homemade soups and desserts. This is what every neighborhood shop should be.

Omg omg omGAWD. There are so many great yum yum city things at steak and hoagie that I don’t know where to start! But I thought of a place: know how they give you their delicious crinkly fries in a bag!!! I love that! Cause you can add salt and shake the bag!!! So much fun. The bread is super soft and almost like baby bread. The cheesesteaks are the perfect size too – not too big! Know what else is not too big? Their parking lot. I feel like every time I go there I see some hundred thousand year old lady trying to navigate their monopoly board sized front parking lot and I don’t know if it’s the situation or her Buick sized eye doctor glasses but I have to hide my head and laugh. Maybe they should eliminate the front lot and make everyone park it in the back. I don’t know get some picnic tables or something.

Best hoagies in the area! Love the Chicken tender hoagie. Food is always good and service is fast and made to order. Only place in the area with quality like it.

There isn’t much seating but this place is good for a quick bite. I usually get the buffalo chicken cheesesteak and a side of dynabites. The cheesesteak is good but the dynabite is phenomenal. It’s deep fried chunks of broccoli and cheese.

Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak, hot … not sure why you would order anything else. I always wonder when someone in front of me orders a cold hoagie. Only logical explanation is to assume they are first timers. I admit that I’ve had half an Italian from a catering tray at my office, and it was very good. I am sure the fish at Peter Lugers is excellent as well, but we definitely can’t be friends if you order it.

I like this place and I’ll order from here again. The main selling point is how convenient it is. Its definitely not the best hoagies I’ve ever had, but they are super cheap and were willing to deliver my 11 dollar meal. The last two times I ordered I got the buffalo chicken cheesesteak that everyone is always commenting on. It was good, but I wish they put a little more filling into my sub. It would be great if they gave you an option to add toppings like lettuce or tomato. Also the bread was cold and a little stale. I like my subs hot and crispy. Besides that, I def recommend the crab fries! They are seasoned with old bay spice which makes them extra tasty. They give you a generous amount too.

They have a small seating area. I assume most people order to go. I’ll have to see if it gets crowded when they’re busy. I went at about 3:30pm and I was the only one there. Based off of other Unilocalers I had to get the buffalo chicken cheesesteak, extra buffalo sauce on the side, with the salt and vinegar fries. I always order extra sauce because all the buffalo chicken cheesesteaks I’ve had were dry for my taste. Not the case at all with this place. Mmmm it was dripping with sauce and cheese, in a good way! I used the extra sauce to dip my fries in. I’ve never had salt and vinegar fries before today so I’ll admit I don’t have much to go off of. I thought the fries could use more vinegar but this could just be my preference. The speed of the service more than made up for the slight french fry disappointment. I kid you not, my 11″ cheesesteak and fries were ready to go in 4 minutes. This won’t be the last time I visit so I’ll add more info on what the service is like when it’s busier. I’m editing my review because after more visits I’ve found myself disappointed. I’ve tried other hoagies and also went with other people who were also disappointed. I would say the quality depends on who is making your food at the time. The first time I went the Buffalo chicken cheesesteak was stuffed with meat and sauce but the last 4 times it was extremely lacking in both areas. Very disappointed.

*Once again, knocked it out of the park, had the meat lovers and it was good *kicking myself for not doing the buffalo hoagie, next time! *the staff for whatever reason recognized me and thanked me for coming in! they saidd they saw my Unilocal review and appreciated it, super friendly!
