This is not the Chitos I remember. Not even close. I hadn’t been to Chitos in over 2 years since I’ve found hole in the wall places for tacos and gorditas that are closer to my house and slightly better, but I always remembered Chitos as being pretty decent as an alternative if I was in Plano. The last time I was there, they were attached to a gas station. Now, they’ve got a new location, and that new location looks pretty decent inside. Pretty big huge step up in terms of ambiance. But the food? The only food that was even remotely familiar to me was the salsa. The chips weren’t warm and didn’t taste that fresh. The rice and beans? Forgettable. The flavors of the entrees? Sub-par tex mex at best. To top it off, our waiter was a complete jerk. He didn’t have paper in hand to take our order so I told him he should probably grab a pad since I was intending to modify my dish a bit. He looked at me with annoyance and told me «This isn’t Chipotle». You know what? If I want to customize my order, I’m going to do just that. If you’ve got a problem with that, I’d suggest you re-consider your profession. We also made the mistake of coming on live music night and ended up sitting far too close to the musical talent of the night. Nothing will make your meal more awkward than a wandering mediocre guitarist making odd eye contact with you while you eat. Ambiance: 3⁄5 — It’s better than being attached to a gas station like it used to be. Food: 2⁄5 Price: 3⁄5 Service: 1⁄5

A hidden gem! While the crowds wait for 45 to 60 minutes for Chuys… you can drive across 75 to this place and get a seat quickly. The food is just as good as Chuys and in some cases better!

One of the best so far i the Richardson/Plano area in Tex-Mex but more on the Mex side. The pork tamale was just right with flavor and corn meal to meat ratio. The salsas were very good as well with warm chips. The red salsa was spicy and the cream green one was even better. I had their Carnitas tacos which I swear had Pastor flavors. Might have been the wrong order but was still fantastic. The charro beans were good as well. I’m definitely going back again!

Love this place. Clean and good service. The live music is very nice but it is awkward when he comes to the table. Very talented musician. Salsa is a bit spicy but very good. I always get enchalatas with queso very good. Will be a regular guest

I’m sitting at home in my recliner, after just getting home from Chitos, and I feel like a stuffed pig! Dinner was absolutely delicious! We started off with queso topped with meat. It was divine! My husband and I decided to split a traditional dish of chili pablano stuffed with hamburger and cheese.(As recommended by The wife of the owner). I’ve never tried this dish anywhere before but instantly fell in love! My daughter tried the stuffed zucchini(which none of us had ever tried either). She was just as impressed. The rice is not your typical red spanish rice. It’s white with a few small vegies in it and Packed with flavor! I know I’ll be craving another chili pablano in the very near future!

Service was good… prices were a little on the high end but portions were substantial.

Dropped in to check out Chito’s & was really impressed. Juan, possibly the owner, was behind the bar & was great. Regular red salsa was delicious. Chips were crisp & fresh. The Coup de gras however was the Shredded beef Chimichanga. Excellent place, good atmosphere. 2 thumbs up

I miss them being next to the gas station. I went in to their new location off of 75. Service was super slow. It took an hour and 15 minutes to have lunch with my 4 year old. I had the street tacos and son had a kids burrito. Their food used to be on point, not so much anymore. My sons burrito was very greasy. The thing that really made me mad was that they tried to charge me for something I didn’t even order, a side salad. The waitress sucked until I spoke to her in Spanish, then she was friendly, at the end of the meal. Don’t be nice to me only when it’s time to get your tip.

I’ve been coming here since they were at their old location! I really can’t say enough good things about this place. Their new location is much larger and has a large, full bar. But the things that always made it a great place to go is still the same: amazing food and amazing staff! Lets start at the beginning. Their salsa is amazing as is their guacamole and their queso. I haven’t had something I don’t like yet. The food comes out quickly and is always hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The people who work there are always so nice, caring, and quick with everything from seating you, getting your order, and bringing it out. The manager/owner(?) is AMAZING! He is so nice and works really hard right along all the other staff. He has an incredible memory and seems to often remember not only us but what our order was from last time. This isn’t somewhere I go all the time so it is really impressive that he can remember all that. The cherry on top of this review is the live music they have many nights of the week. Different performers on different nights makes it really fun. On certain nights they have a harpist, sometimes a guitarist, and sometimes they will even go table to table and perform. This is a great place that I would highly recommend if you are looking good food and good atmosphere.

My first real time here at the new location was mediocre. The salsa was authentically spicy(A+), the service was genuine, but slow(C+), and the food nearly, not quite, but nearly appeased my tex-mex craving(B). I joined my family at the table after everyone got their margaritas. The waiter ran by me a couple of times failing to ask if I needed anything to drink. Feelin’ a liiittle sober & left out here :( It was a Wednesday night at 7PM, and he had maybe 2 – 3 other tables. I finally had to ask and was granted a crisp, stout vodka drink. Then, almost in a rather twisted, evil déjà vu moment, I was suddenly left watching everyone eat as well. My family got their food at least 15 – 20 minutes before I did, even though we all placed our orders at the same time.(Something about someone else getting my food.) The avocado stuffed chicken was pretty good for one of the«healthier» items. Two thin slices of otherwise dry chicken with an avocado spread in between. Not bad, really. The one thing I love about tex-mex restaurants is that they supplement the main dish with plenty of rice and charro beans. My family invited me here because they really enjoyed the performer that night. He came by our table and played my dad’s favorite Enrique song on his guitar. We got up and danced and had a ball. Can’t buy these memories. I’ll come back to try the chicken nachos and maybe less of a service hiccup! –xo

I’ve loved Chitos since their first location off of legacy. Now they have upgraded to swankier spot off of 75s in between Spring Creek and Parker Rd. The menu seems to have stayed the same with a few new additions. It was a lunch visit so why not try out their lunch specials I had the street tacos. I order the barbacoa tacos with flower tortillas the special also comes with rice and beans. The tortillas were excellent and the barbacoa was flavorful and juicy. The auga melon was refreshing. They have a few different salsa options the one that comes with the chips is great then the two that come with the meal are equally as good if not better. If I wasn’t such an honest person I would have taken the two that came with the meal home with me. The menu prices have seemed to have gone up with their move to the new location. But I can’t fault them for that they have to pay for the place. Their chalk board says they have live music on certain days of the week. So I will be back to check that out along with a magarita or two.

Really wanted to try and enjoy this place. However, I’m sorely disappointed that they would tell me that my party would be seated in 20 minutes and then nearly an hour later and only when inquired, did they tell me that the delay was because we asked for a high chair. Setting honest and realistic expectations versus just spitballing and hoping for the best is key to earning consistent business. Now I’m left to drive home late with a hungry, crying child.

Really nice area, I liked the harp guy playing relaxing music there, made me feel comfortable. I forgot the Spanish name of my dish, but it was ground beef wrapped in a jalapeño, and it was pretty good! Hope I can try some other dishes the next time :)

First time in their new location, I know, right? Why did it take me so long? Just that extra 10 minute drive other options were closer but none better. If you want a great deal go try out their lunch menu, good for and very reasonable. Hubby and I have this love affair with Chile Relleno(Cheese) so we had the same thing and with their very spicy green sauce these are great! Had a side of steak tacos, excellent, and port tamale with was a little dry.

We have been coming here since they opened and before that when they were in a gas station! We come enough that they know what we want when we come in. Great street tacos and the beans are fantastic. We get them every time and sometimes add the top shelf queso. All the servers are friendly but the guy behind the bar is our favorite. Highly recommended.

I picked up some tamales and they kept very well after the 20 minute drive back to my house. The pork tamales were my favorite but the chicken was also very good. A lot of tamale places provide chicken tamales but the chicken ends up being rather bland and dry — not so at Chito’s. The sauces provided paired well with the tamales and gave that extra«bite» to go along with the tamale.

This place NEVER lets me down. The absolute BEST margaritas if you want to forget about life. Their Guisado de Puerco is untouchable by anywhere else in town. Tamales are excellent, and tortilla soup is better than most because it’s brothy. I recommend sitting at the bar. The service is even more personable there. Enjoy!

Oh my goodness! I think I’ve found my new favorite Mexican restaurant! Granted, I ordered a margarita swirl and it was a strong drink! So, in addition to them not skimping on their drinks, the street tacos are AWESOME! I got the pastor, barbacoa, and steak. The meats were perfectly marinated and tender. Your meal comes with chips and a variety of sauces(and if you’ve read my other reviews, you’ll know that I LOVE sauces!). I opted to substitute my beans for a side salad and the it was not the traditional sad pile of lettuce with a tomato slice on top, rather the sad pile of lettuce, with tomato, and slices of AVOCADO! Not only was the food and margarita great, the service was super friendly! The manager came to greet us and make sure everything was okay and our water glasses were never empty. I’d highly recommend!

Been here a few times now and it is a great local option for Mexican. They have a lot of different options that you don’t see on other Tex-mex menus. Don’t be afraid to try something that sounds unfamiliar because it is all delicious! First time we went was in the old location(glad they moved to a better one) and the waiter brought some margaritas that were quite strong. Always a plus. Chips and queso/salsa are good, and you can order individual tacos too for cheap. all the meats are old school Mexican recipe — lots of flavors. Skip all the chains in Plano and give this place a shot!

This place use to be in a gas station. To see it expand to this location speaks to how good the food is. The dishes are authentic. It’s not Tex’Mex. This is genuine Mexican flavors. It is flavorful spicy mexican food. The kind where you swear a Mexican grandma is cooking in the kitchen. The Asad de puerco is to die for. I had this dish as part of a catered event and to this day I still have people asking me about it. The borracho beans are my hubby’s favorite as they always taste fresh. Their burritos and tortas are delicious. I tend to go for al pastor and steak. But all the meat options are good. I could tell you everything I like on this menu but you really just have to try it and I’m sure you will discover the one thing that speaks to your taste buds.

Took my ladies here Saturday night along with my daughter’s BFF. It was our first time. This location has had two other concepts in it, including a failed attempt at Bennigan’s that closed a few months back. Chito’s started beside a gas station and had about 10 tables. That in itself always sort of kept me away. I guess I was doing myself a disservice because this place is really good. First, the chips and salsa. The salsa here is fresh, really fresh. I wanted to sip it through a straw. It was that good. The chips are just thick enough not to break in the salsa as well. I wasn’t too impressed with the app menu, no ceviche or stuffed jalapenos even. Minus the queso and guac offerings, it seemed more meal items were on there like nachos and quesadillas. Looking past that, I ordered the Camarones a La Diabla. Our server sold me on corn tortillas since they were made in house as well. Usually, when you order a shrimp dish, you get like 5 – 6 shrimp. Well, my plate was loaded with about 14 – 15. The sauce was good, not as spicy as «la diabla», but had some kick. It also came with nice fluffy rice and some squash. And those homemade corn tortillas? They were awesome!!! Great meal through and through. We also got combo fajitas and it was some of the best beef fajita meat I have had. The chicken was a little dry, but that’s the breast and everyone has a hard time keeping that moist. Everyone else enjoyed their meal. Service was good. No issues there. And, feeding five for under $ 75, without tip, was a nice change of pace for our weekly Saturday night dinner out as well. We’ll definitely be back soon…

I have been once before yesterday, the week they opened. They didn’t have a liquor license yet so drinks were super cheap and it wasn’t crowded so we had great service. I guess now that they’re doing better business-wise, everything else can fall to the wayside. We walked in around 7:45 for dinner. 4 employees saw us standing at the front. We locked eyes. No one said hello. No one asked if we’d been helped. It went on for 5 minutes. I kept asking my boyfriend if we could leave. Someone finally said something to us and I asked if we could sit outside(as the restaurant was cold). The boy told us that the patio was closing, but when we had walked in there was a couple leaving their trash behind as they left the patio. So… okay. We sat at a table and ordered the«strawberry kiwi mojito» listed on the specials board. The boy then informed us it’s one or the other. We got one of each. They were strong and had little fruit flavor. I couldn’t drink mine. I ordered cheese enchiladas with queso on top. Very simple. The food was delicious. Then the guy came and took our plates. And came back five minutes later and asked if we were okay. He did this twice more without bringing us or asking if we wanted our check. After about a half hour, a female table cleaner heard me say that I was going to speak to someone to get the check and she asked if I needed anything. She then went and got the boy who provided our checks right away. The food was good, but not worth the absolutely terrible service. I don’t need to spend money at a place where I am made to feel unviable.

I love this place. My husband and I were regulars when they were at their old tiny gas station location. The new place is beautiful and a much better size for the crowd they draw. I’ve never had anything that wasn’t delicious. But I really love their chicken enchiladas with verde sauce!

I’ve been here a few times with others and the place is really good. The staff is super friendly and remembers your order and likes from previous visits. Guacamole is amazing. Salsa is really, really good. Our table gave rave reviews to the basic queso mixed with their salsa. Steak street tacos were the favorite of our group as was the quesadilla. It was stuffed like I have never seen before. Jalapeño Margaritas!!! Ahhhhhmazing. They use real jalapeños so when you suck up some seeds, you find a nice afterburn. 2 of them and I’m walking out giggly. We took the advice of another Unilocaler(I love you guys!!) and ordered fried ice cream and churros. Cut up the churros, slightly smash them and mix it up with the fried ice cream. If heaven can fall down and land in a bowl, it would be this creation. Food presentation was amazing and something you don’t normally get in casual dining. The food is better than Uncle Julios with better prices. Scratch that, I think it’s better than ALL the Mexican food restaurants around! Bravo, Chitos. Bravo! This is a must visit!!!

Just got done eating at Chito’s, I came here due to the high ratings from their previous location. Upon arriving it was a busy Friday night, the restaurant was full, but they still managed to seat us fairly quickly which was nice. I had the enchiladas, it came with three enchiladas so I had a mix of chicken, beef, and cheese all covered in queso. The flavors were good and the ingredients were fresh and hot. The chips and salsa were also really good. Overall, for the money I would say that this place is worth a try. The food is definitely better than El Fenix or On the Border, but this is not as sophisticated as Javier’s or Pappasitos, if that’s what you are looking for I would recommend that you look elsewhere. If I was ever in the area again I would certainly come back.

I ordered a dozen of Chicken tamales(12 tamales). I should’ve checked how much it was actually in the bag. I got home only to find out I only have 11. Secondly as I spread the tamales over two days I noticed some of them were chicken and I found 4 of my tameles to have some nasty stuff inside. It tasted funny. Didn’t taste like chicken more like tofu texture but tasted like some animals guts. It was gross. This is my very first time ordering here and I’m disappointed.
