Absolutely my favorite dim sum place in Dallas. Way better than Kirin Court or Maxim. Too bad there’s another restaurant on the same road with the same name nearby. Don’t go to that one near Coit by mistake. This good JS Chen is near I-75 at 240 Legacy, Ste 118, Plano, TX75023.

Went here due to long line next door. Very large menu with lots of options from dim sum to Korean bbq. Me and my girlfriend loved all the food coming out the kitchen. I had spicy pork that was yummy! Service was a bit slow for not being that busy but they were very friendly! It was cold that day and the cold air blew in pretty steady as well. It had a lot of seating with round turntables on the larger tables.

We ended up going here when the wait for Little Sheep was too long. They did not have a wait, which was good, but the service was slow. They have a lot on their menu, and the prices are reasonable. Just don’t go if you are in a hurry.

I visited today with a friend and our teens. It was lunch time, so I expected a wait… no problem. Once seated it took about 20 minutes before anyone came to our table… I wanted to leave and later wished that I did. Food was just ok. .nothing special. Felt like we were bothering them. Forced conversation when asking what each item was when they were giving us our food. This was only my 2nd time trying dim sum. I will not go back to the place. Now they were talkative when the bill came. I opted to not tip based on my experience and she was not happy about that but she did not make a scene. I’m usually a good tipper. But the service was horrible. Save yourself the trouble… pass on this place. Also the bathrooms were disgusting.

Four stars for the quality of the dimsum but two stars for the service, therefore 3 stars rating overall. Pros: –dim sum on weekdays –best chicken feet I’ve had in a while –overall very fresh dimsum, mainly BC they don’t make it until ordered –reasonable priced Cons: –well below the low standard of «bad service at Asian restaurants» service –ordered 8 dimsum dishes and they all came out individually and 10 mins apart. And when the foods came out, it wasn’t even our foods. With all that being said, I would still give it another try. I’d like to come back on a weekends to try the dimsum again. Perhaps the waiting time for food won’t be at bad when I can just order it off the dimsum carts.

I came with the family for some serious dungeness crab fried rice and shocked for sticker price of $ 47.95 for such a wimpy crab. Never again and take your hard earned monies else where.

JS Chen is my second choice for Dim Sum if the wait at Kirin Court is way too long. The service isnt very great but its expected when dining at a Chinese Restaurant. I do like how JS Chen can make reservations for big groups which can tremendouly reduce the wait time. My family enjoys coming here because it is the midpoint for everyone. The dim sum is pretty good and Im a big fan of how the carts never run out of the popular mainstream dumplings. The restaurant service could use a lot of improvement though. My favorites would be the Hai Cai, Shu mai, and the shrimp fun rolls. The rice pouridge was served cold when it should be warm. I usually dine her during all the major holidays so you can expect to find me here in my workout gear!

This is my favorite place to get dimsum in Dallas! Overall, the dimsum here is really good. I used to come here all the time when I lived in Dallas, and this place never disappoints! Typically I order the har gau(steamed shrimp dumplings), siu mai, cha siu bao(pork buns), shrimp/beef cheong fan(rolled rice noodles), turnip cake, taro cake, steamed ribs, and some kind of vegetable. Those are all very traditional dimsum dishes. As for dessert, a very common dish is the egg custard tart and tofu pudding(topped with a ginger sauce which is delish). Definitely great and my favorite dimsum place in Dallas!

Subpar quality dim sum that is quite pricy for example 4.99 for shrimp dumplings… it’s a nice restaurant but I think this place is geared more towards Taiwanese customers so the dishes are a little by different from Cantonese places

I am still in search of good dim sum in Dallas. I have to say, my biggest pet peeve about Asian restaurants is horrible service. You normally get drinks after your meals and a wait staff with facial expressions as heavy as bricks. Walking in, it looks like a typical dim sum restaurant with circulating carts. I was worried because the room looked packed. However, there were another side to the place. Wait time was only five minutes. Disappointments: There were not a good variety Had to chase down the cart ladies Waitress was less than nice A table that sat across from us left after feeling neglected. There are little chance of getting your dim sum, unless you yell«HEY» or grabbing them as they pass.

I have eaten here 2 times and I might not be back again. Perhaps it’s just the timing, both times I was there at non peak times… 1st time I tried the general stir fried rice and noodle dishes with the 3 flavors of Chinese bbq. The stir fry dishes tasted extremely oily and the flavor was some what lacking and the bbq tasted like it had been sitting there all day. The 2nd time was a weekday morning for some dim sum. Frankly, the classics such ad siu mai, har gow, taro cake, etc left a lot to be desired… like they were frozen some quite some time. Furthermore, the dim sum had to be ordered ahead and prepared one at a time unlike most dim sum restaurants. Once again, maybe it’s the timing and perhaps they did not have their primary chef around because others seem to enjoy their experiences there… however, I will continue to seek out a favorite chinese go to joint in the Dallas Metro area…

The food was good but they were lacking of variety and service was slow. Overall experience was just«okay» This is what I had between my mom and I. Black bean clams eggplant with shrimp liu sha bao shrimp dumplings and shrimp eggrolls Black bean clams was cold so that was the worse of all. My favorite was the liu sha bao, melted custard inside bao, shrimp dumplings and shrimp eggrolls were also delicious. The other favorite was the eggplant. It was mushy like some places. The dim sum ladies didn’t speak English or had a clue of what I was asking. I don’t speak mandarin or cantonese. It would be helpful if you show them pictures on the Unilocal app. I had to do it for the liu sha bao because they had no idea what I was asking. Service was slow also and they didn’t have a good variety of dim sum plates. I had to ask three times for shrimp dumplings. That should be on every dim sum cart.

Good dimsum! From siomai to chinese broccoli and yes the roast duck! Its harder for some of the servers to understand you but you will get by. Parking lot gets full since you are sharing with the grocery store and other restaurants around.

Intro– not a bad dim sum place but obviously not the best one I’ve personally been to. Service– since it was my first time being here, I can’t QUITE say too much about it since maybe it was just a bad day; however, for this one particular time the service was less than decent. Our waiter didn’t see us often but it was more of his co workers who was doing the work. And even then, they didn’t quite pay attention to us? At one point I even felt like one of them ignored me when I tried to get their attention. Idk, I’ll try to give a benefit of a doubt to them since I know how it feels to be busy in a restaurant but yeah… Didn’t put extra gratuity, especially since there was already auto-gratuity. Food– the food was decent. I guess my personal favorite would have to be the deep fried crispy taro. All of the foods are extremely oily and you’ll cough up some oil. Then again, that’s to be expected since its dim sum. Kinda gave me a heavy feel afterwards so if you just wanna feel heavy on food, this is the place to go. Definitely not light. The spicy tendon, tofu, bbq pork bun, and vegetables were pretty nice. As for the taro patty, and short rib, currie squid, and potatoes, those were very dissatisfying. One of the dishes(can’t remember which) even tasted like dish washer soap. Conclusion– overall the place has mediocre service, overly oily, heavy, and okay food, and the experience wasn’t all that amazing. I’ll give them some points for having a couple of nice dishes like the dessert and deep fried taro. Other than those, I could maybe pass off this place. Would only come back only if family wants to revisit.

So I haven’t had dim sum in quite some time, and I was very excited to finally try some at a new place. You could probably get away with feeding me two-day old dim sum, and still make happy. However, the service at JS Chen was really bad. I usually have a high tolerance for service, but I came in around 3:00 p.m., and there weren’t a lot of people around, it was almost like we were neglected. The reason why the service was bad: we were seated at a dirty table, we were given only the dim sum menu, and 10 minutes later after waving down a waiter — we were given an old dingy menu that looked like it had been used to waft away flies. At this point, I really wanted to just go eat somewhere else. But since I was already there, I just wanted to put my dim sum craving to rest. So I ordered(2) orders of fried shrimp balls. – 20 minutes later:(1) order of fried shrimp balls arrived to our table. Meanwhile… I looked around trying to see if we were going to receive our second order. – 10 minutes later: we waved down a waiter to get our second order of shrimp balls – 15 minutes later: finally received our second order of shrimp balls. Food: Fried Shrimp Balls(3 per order): the shrimp balls were too salty, but they did have one positive — they were fresh. As you can see in the picture, there was one highlight to this visit. The shrimp balls also came with red-fluorescent sweet and sour sauce, which just tasted like liquid sugar and red food coloring. * Long story short * — You won’t see me checking in here anytime soon.

After talking myself in and out of it, I came here for lunch by myself. Typically, it’s way better to take more people for dim sum because you get to try a little bit of everything. When your by yourself, the bill can easily rack up if you want to get the same stuff a group normally would. But, I came anyway because my craving was getting out of hand and I needed a quick fix.(Just one taste! I promise, that’s all I need!) I must say I was kind of expecting the carts to skip me, especially since there were huge groups ready to pounce on the cart pushers but I had a table full of dim sum only after 90 secs of sitting down. One lady was exceptionally nice and told me to eat slowly and enjoy my meal. Kind of funny since the entire place was pretty packed. Everything came out fresh and hot and was very tasty. I got full from the pork ribs, dumplings and turnip cakes that I didn’t even get to my most favorite thing in the dim sum world, egg custard. I had a total of 6 items that equaled to about 24 bucks. It would have been cheaper if I didn’t get the scallops, which was considered a medium or large dish(4 bucks). It was good, but I should have gotten egg custard instead!

Came here early on a Saturday because I thought they would fill up. At 10:30am, when they opened, we were the second table. By the time we left at 11:45am, one of the two rooms was almost full. Parking can get crowded in this shopping center as there is a market and other popular businesses. Most of the carts were ready to roll in the beginning, but as time went on, more and more items came out. Even with this, the selection was not that great. there wasn’t enough variety. Most of the items are $ 3.95, and while good tasting, not worth that much. There are a few who can speak English well, the rest is a struggle. a decent spot for the suburbs, but Richardson has better places.

I had my wedding reception here. All I can say is that we impressed every guest with the food. Awesome value, flavor, and amount of food. The night was super fun, and the food was delicious :) I’ve also been a regular customer since 2000 when the restaurant used to be located in Richardson, TX(when their dim sum was part of the buffet, how amazing was that?) JS Chen no longer serves buffet, but they do serve dim sum. You will get food faster if you sit in the front half of the restaurant. Good luck if you’re sitting in the banquet room.
