Went to Dickey’s in Martinez/Pleasant Hill tonight & wanted 5 $ 1.00 sliders per their txt of this morning. Says grab«a dozen.» Both counter people said the owner said there’s a limit of 3! Bad PR& advertising! No disclaimer or correction. Not good! See txt below. Doubt the txt is from the local owner of this & the Pinole location. Most likely corporate, however if the owner(Tony?) is not going to live up to the advertising or txt they should send a disclaimer, say Not All Locations or something similar. I didn’t want a dozen, only 5, yet Dickey’s Very Own txt says you can grab a dozen! Left a really bad taste in my mouth, no pun intended! From Dickey’s: Celebrate the New Year! For a limited time, pick up $ 1 Pulled Pork Sliders from Dickey’s Barbecue. Grab just a few or a dozen, perfect for watching parties!

Came here last week for a pickup order. My boyfriend and I are originally from Alabama and are always on the lookout for good barbecue and sides. The okra, yeast rolls, waffle fries, and green beans were excellent. The barbecue was good too. We will be coming back soon.

Have been pleased the last couple of times. Rolls were fresh, brisket was great, gal behind the counter was very polite and efficient.

If I could give this place NOSTARS I would. The food is good, though, so I’ll give it one star for the food only. I continue to have horrible service at this location and yesterday was the absolute worst. I will NEVEREVER go back to this location again. All Dickey’s locations that I have been to, have a «Kids Eat Free Sundays» deal. Since I’m not a huge eater, I usually just get a sandwich or one meat with just ONE side and an ice water(I always prefer to drink water). Occasionally for dinner, I’ll order one of their larger combo plates — but not often, as most of the times I have been here was after church on Sunday for lunch. When went with my mom, sister, son(10) and nephew(8) we figured we would get our regular three adult meals and two free kids meals. When we went to pay, the cashier told us that in order to get the two kids meals free, the adult meals had to be one of their combo PLATES. This is not what their kids eat free on sunday promotional sign says, not to mention this wasn’t our first Sunday eating there. I explained to the cashier that the sign just says one free kids meal with each paying adult meal of equal or higher value(kids meals are $ 5.95 and my adult sandwich and side came to over $ 11 — which goes along with their promotion deals. I understand this as they do not want an adult to order a mini hoagie and an ice water for $ 5 and expect to get a free kids meal. She kept explaining that the sign means one of their combo plates. I went ahead and upgraded my meal, but I argued that’s not what the sign says, and if that’s the case, it should say so. My sister also had to upgrade her meal to get her son’s meal for free. She rolled her eyes at me in front of numerous customers present and said«I have never had a customer throw such a fit over this»…I told her that I was a paying customer, wasn’t cursing at her or being beligerant expected to get exactly what their promotion sign says and what I have received in the past, otherwise that’s false advertisement. Still having an attitude, she let out a HUGE sigh and loudly said, «it’s a difference of $ 2. Do you want me to refund you the $ 2???(very sarcastically as if my issue was the $ 2). I said«are you insulting me and insinuating that this is over $ 2, in front of all of these customers? I am upset that you are not honoring your promotion and have treated me this way in front of people. I told her to keep her $ 2 and my sister’s upgrade cost and we will never be back. She said«whatever»… and then after we sat down, she was mouthing off and talking about us to her co workers, right in front of us. She also gave my 10 year old son an attitude after we ate, and he asked for a box for his left overs. Absolutely ridiculous. The bad service in the past was by young kids that were just clueless and didn’t have the greatest organization skills. This grown adult woman in her late 50s or so was 10 times worse than any of the young kids that were there today. I also felt the young kids that were working there were embarrassed for me, and is why they treated us extra nice for the remainder of our time there.

When you consider the crap that passes for BBQ out here in Norcal, this place is a godsend. Also, great portions, side dishes, fun décor. Great value too as kid’s eat free on many days. Good honest food in a simple BBQ shack not for elitists…

This is the first time we ate Dickey’s and we ordered take out online. Placing the order was super simple, convenient and was ready when my husband picked it up. The food was awesome. We had ham, spicy kilbasa, pulled pork, shredded beef and ribs. Our side dishes were mac and cheese and loaded mashed potatoes. The meat had the perfect amount of smoke and tenderness. The mac and cheese better than most barbecue joints and way better than Back 40. For a chain bbq joint, Dickey’s has figured it out and we will be getting take out from them again.

It was my first time ordering take out, and only because my husband’s co-worker gave him what was left on a gift card, nice thought, and horrible experience! I first began to place the order online for the convenience, but there was nowhere to enter my gift card so I called my order in. Cory answered the phone and said I would have to come into the restaurant in order to use the gift card. I asked him«Can’t I just place my phone order and pick it up», he answered«yes, but we have been busy are out of a lot of food so you may not get what you want». I understood and said let’s see what you have left. I began to place my order. I ordered beef brisket for my husband and he asked if I wanted a quarter plate or 1. I asked nicely what the difference was and this guy cut me off saying«2 ounces», I asked if the quarter was larger by 2 oz and he proceeded to very rudely tell me he had a line of people to help and he didn’t have time, they were shorthanded and why don’t I just come in and place my order. Again, I wanted to order on the phone for the convenience. I continued to tell him the rest of my husbands order(sides) and asked for the okra, and he again rudely said«It will take 2 ½ minutes and they won’t make it until I come in so I’d have to wait». I said that was fine. I then began to give him my order, ribs, coleslaw and had to recollect my thoughts because of how he was treating/rushing me to remember the other side and because the menu was no longer on my phone, he was getting impatient and didn’t want to wait, then again said they were really busy and I would have to hurry up. During this whole conversation I was being a nice/calm customer, even though I wanted to call him a name I can’t say on Unilocal!!!Didn’t want him to spit on the food you know! He rudely hung up on me when I was finished with my order. Didn’t thank me, nothing! I got there and asked for my take out order and he must have realized how rude he was to me so started apologizing because they were busy. I explained to him he was very rude to me on the phone and tried to cut me off or get me off the phone. He then said I tried to ask him the whole menu on the phone, which was a bold faced lie, I only asked about the brisket size! I advised I work in Customer Service and you«NEVER» treat a nice paying customer like that. I gave him advice telling him he should have apologized to his customers in line and that he would be right with them, instead of treating me like crap on the phone. I asked for a Manager, he said there was none, I asked for the Owner and he said there was none. I said«Really, I can find out who owns this business». He then wrote someone’s name on a piece of paper(it’s probably one of his friends). Dawn was very nice trying to apologize explaining they were very busy when I called. I reiterated how rude he was! She said they would do something to take care of me next time… BUTTHEREWILLNEVERBE A NEXTTIME!!! I got home; the beef brisket my husband got was dry and didn’t have any flavor. My pork ribs were dry and appeared to have been sitting around for a while because they tasted old. You’d think they would have been fresh because they apparently were running out of food! The place is dirty, a stainless steel warming container built in by the register had water in it but no container and there was some kind of thick gross white mold or calcification around the burner element inside and had a residue ring around it where the water level came to! Board of Heath would probably site these people or shut them down. Back Forty BBQ or Lucille’s are the ONLYBBQ restaurants I will give my business to in the future! I was afraid to eat my coleslaw thinking he put something foul in it and my bread bun smelt like sweat so either he rubbed it under his arm, or it was the yeast. Needless to say it was the worst & most expensive waste of my money and time!!! Eat at your own risk, and God help you if they are too busy and run out of food! DON’T EATHERE!!! ;O/

The staff here was very pleasant and made sure I knew where everything is including the free ice cream! The place is a little pricey for what it is but they give you a lot of food. The daily specials and sandwiches are probably the best value. I also appreciated the souvenir cup you can bring back for half off drinks, and the loyalty stamp cards.

OK, I know Dickey’s is a chain BBQ place, but it OK for what it is. No, it won’t be the best BBQ you ever had, but for fast food BBQ it’s probably the best of that type. The prices are not exactly fast food, but hey, it’s all meat stuff. The line moves, but not too fast as they take your order and make you food as you make you way to the cashier. We had the ribs, and a combo order of the brisket and pulled pork. My BF and I shared all the food. Both orders came with fries. I chose the waffle fries. Waffle fries are my fave cut of fries that I don’t see too often. The staff seemed pretty well trained on their tasks on the assembly line. The food and whole atmosphere is still sorta fast food, so no it’s not a date place. The ribs were pretty decent for being cooked and wrapped pretty well in advanced. Not the longest ribs I’ve come across since they’re trimmed like a St. Louis cut. If you want big bones with no trim, you gotta go to Emil Villas Hickory Pit in Walnut Creek. But for something fast and convenient, these will do. The pulled pork on the other hand was a bit dried out as was the brisket. I really don’t think you should need to smother those meats in BBQ sauce to get it to taste good, but that’s what we did. OK, you just gotta know what to order and what not to. I’ll come to Dickey’s BBQ if someone else really wants to, but I probably won’t make a special trip here to get BBQ ribs when Walnut Creek is nearby. Prices are less the most regular BBQ houses though.

This particular location is better suited for takeout than dine in, with just 4 – 5 tables. If you do takeout make sure that you get your sauce from the self-service station, because with the exception of the ribs, none of the main dishes come with sauce already on it. There are three kinds of sauce — original, sweet(not really), and spicy(does have a little kick). Although you get six ribs in the combo plate, the rest of the main dishes are a little on the small side when you get them the same way. The family pack deals start at $ 25 so that might be the best way to get more meat. The chicken is sliced breast and not rotisserie style, but is still tender. The pulled pork is good, and for $ 5 you can make a sandwich out of any meat. As for the sides, the coleslaw and beans are good but the mac and cheese is a little rich. You still get the free ice cream with purchase(it’s a small cone though), and joining the email club gets you a free large drink and other specials. That’s enough to warrant a return visit, as well as homemade pecan pie.

Can’t say enough about this place. Coming from Texas, I have been eating Texas BBQ for over half a century. I remember when a new franchise opened outside the Fort Worth Stock Yards. They called it Dickeys BBQ. It spread nationwide from these Stockyards. I have searched in the Bay Area for quality Texas BBQ and have found it at the Dickeys BBQ in Pleasant Hill. The food and service here are exceptional. The food quality & quantity are way above average. The food is hot and the ice cream is free. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially Arthur. I will continue to be a repeat customer for some time to come. However, I do miss the whole dill pickles they once had in a large jar.(One pickle per customer) This is one of the many aspects of the«side-of-the-road» BBQ joint that are found throughout rural Texas. The free pickles were a part of this ambience.

Saddle you horse up to the hitch and head to Dickeys for some lip smacking Tex BBQ. I have been here a few times, There BBQ ribs are flavorful, tender, and meaty. I also like their pull pork sandwiches. The sides are industrial sides, one time I was able to see the clerk open the industrial bag of mash potatoes and place them in the warmer. I was kinda surprised since I thought the sides were made in house. I wasn’t a big turn off since their loaded mashes are creamy, flavourful, and topped with cheese adn green onions. I have never had a bad meal here, with industrial packed sides it is consistent every time. Same as the Dickeys in Vacaville, Pinole, and West Sac. The little square rolls are pillows of fluffy warm yeast clouds. If you judged a book by the cover staff look like tatt hoodlums in job training. I have to say the staff all are very friendly. There is one young man I think his name is Cory(brown wavey hair in a pony tail) very friendly and professional. I am surprised he isn’t on to bigger and better customer service career. Yesterday when I was in there getting a Tuesday Rib Special, my hands were full, I asked Gina for some handi wipes, It kind of threw me off when she directed me to the the wipes and I had to ask for her to hand me one since my arms were full. They have serve your self soft serve ice cream, my fav part id fountain root beer in my big yellow cup and soft serve to make a float. Yum!

It rivals Fremont for worst Dickeys. Food is just ok. Joint is tiny. Staff is hit or miss. It’s alright if you just surf the daily specials. Ps Clayton and Brentwood are big dog Brandos top two locations at this point.

Came into Dickey’s BBQ, and specifically asked one of the grill guys what he thought they did best. He said«the chicken.» Taking the grill masters word for it, I chose the chicken & Brisket as my 2 meat combo. My sides: Jalapeño beans and Mac & cheese. Something hard to mess up. What I got: Chicken — looked and tasted like dry fosters farms deli cuts from Safeway. Brisket — tasted good, but cut into huge hunks. I never asked for burnt ends. Beans — straight beans & weenies from the can with some jalapeño slices. Mac — identical to KFC. Highly disappointing. Especially since he told me to get the chicken which sucked. * 2 stars only because they had free soft serve.

4 out of 5 wheelchair accessibility. My husband and I do eat here quiet often, it’s on the way home from work. Now there is a couple of handicap parking in this parking lot though they are not in front of Dickey’s. If you stand in front of Dickeys there are to your far left in front of another restaurant.(yeah, I don’t know) BUT, it will do accessible to park and then to get to the side walk and to get inside dickey’s is all good. NOW, they have arranged sitting in the restaurant a while back and its a bit more roomy and accessible for a big wheelchair to fit okie-dokie. And the restroom is large enough for my husbands power chair to get in and out of good. The Bbq is quality, but is a bit pricey. My quest for good Bar-B-Que is failing miserably here in the Bay Area. I’ve tried several places and nothing really hits home. Though, I will carry on!

Again, friendly service. It was too hot to cook or I was just feeling lazy, whichever. I already had prepared potato salad for my husbands work party the day before and had leftovers as well as coleslaw and beans. All I really needed was meat. We ordered a little of everything. Sliced brisket it was delicious but did have a few pieces of just fat I could have done without. Turkey was excellent and laughed at my husband for ordering it before I tried it. Really good and the way they slice it is perfect. The sausage was only ok. We tried both kinds. Didn’t order ribs this time. The free pickles always go so fast at my house and I have pickles in the fridge. There is just something about the seasoning they use. If I could make a suggestion it would be to maybe throw a little extra meat in there because while its weighed by the pound or half pound it just seems sort of small once u open it. Although I am sure it was correct but it would make up for any fat. Other than that. Next lazy day when it’s too hot for me to cook or him to BBQ. I will return!

Oh my god YUM! SITREP Dickey’s Barbecue Pit catered a recent event I was part of at the Pleasant HIll Park & Recreation District Center. They did an incredible job of providing an array of food, with the preparation and the service being top-notch quality. THESETUP To provide mobile food-service is quite the feat, especially when it is a pretty extensive menu preparation that includes a number of entrée dishes and side dishes. But Dickey’s was more than up to the task. TRANSPORTATIONOFVITTLES Dikey’s has it’s own Dickey’s Van that provides easy transport of food items to whatever event is being hosted. Dickey’s also uses an extensive array of serving dishes and warmers to keep the food piping hot. And true to our event-theme, Dickey’s provided a Texan style cookout featuring lots of delcious meats and Southern sides. [My hat’s off to them for their hospitality.] The delicious hearty fare included my FAVORITE comfort foods: = BBQSLIDERS! The deliciousness included my favorite BBQ sandwiches, such as BBQ pulled-pork sliders, a hearty spicy tongue-tingling sausage slider, and a Beef Brisquet Slider. The were all AMAZEBALLZ! But it doesn’t stop there… = SOUTHERNSIDES For me where, where things got really amped up was with the delicious sides, which included Southern-style coleslaw(creamy &YUM!), an incredibly tasty baked potato casserole(cheese &YUM!), and YUMMY Mac N’ Cheese! [There was extra of the sides and I made a great plate to go of this as well!] THELOWDOWN The lowdown of this hoedown is that Dickey’s delivers the best tasting BBQ meals to your events!

I’m going to Houston in a couple weeks, and the subject of BBQ has already come up. I’m partial to Goode Company on Kirby, although the Bayou City is loaded with good BBQ joynts. That includes Dickey’s, which apparently is a National chain. This Dickey’s is located in the former spot of Burger Road. The checkered table cloths and the Kicker music in the background is a nice touch, as is a fairly complete menu and comfortable casual dining experience. It’s not Texas, but this Aggie will take any Lone Star cultural touch that he can get. I ordered the Saturday Night Special To-Go(BBQ Sandwich, plus 2 sides and a drink in the signature big yellow cup), which for ~10 was a decent value for the money. The BBQ was good, although not all that distinctive. The brisket seemed a little fatty, the potato salad was nowhere near my Pedroni gold standard, and the sauce on the beans and meat overwhelmed. Nonetheless, I woofed it all down and wondered how Dickey’s ribs would stand up on my next visit. I guess I’ll have to find out, but only after my Houston BBQ/Tex Mex detox has been completed.
