I was so sad to see Great Khan not at the mall anymore. It was one of my favorite places to eat. So imagine my excitement when I learned that Sun Gate BBQ was opening up. Different name, different company(still not sure) but same premise. Now the price is a bit higher in comparison to Great Khan. I didn’t tray be a try with my bowl. So it was quite messy when I had to go put the food in my bowl. A tip to fit all that you want is to squish the frozen meat by pressing down on it with your hands. I got scolded by this from the chef. But I didn’t see any sign saying I couldn’t do it. There’s not a lot options compared to the other establishment. They made what used to be like six different sauces to just three. There’s no more lamb too! I still don’t know how I feel about how every person’s dish is cooked neck to each other. Also, better to pile on the food because when they cook it you can count on parts of your chosen meal to be tossed to the side. They seemed understaffed. There were only three people work at around lunch time. But I don’t know how it is during dinner. Still, even though a part of it was different to Great Khan, the food was still delicious. The customer service I received was great. Even from eating at my table, I can tell that these people are working really hard.(That saved this from being just three staff.)

Simple, straightforward fast, hot, fresh. Not exceptional, but I like to know what I’m eating. This is usually difficult in the burbs, especially at chain restaurants, so that’s a positive, seeing what goes into the food. Flavors aren’t good for much, but not terrible or off. It’s OK, pretty good considering its mall food, in Concord. Plenty of mall wiggas hanging out, but no Mongolians in sight.

$ 15 for a plate and drink. 75 cents for a refil. Food is okay. Over priced for the portion. Would not come again

I ate here Saturday and used my credit card. It was the only place I swiped it that day. Within a few hours someone was charging up hundreds of dollars in Hayward on my account even though I still had my card, so someone made a copy of it. I’m 99% positive it had to be here since it was the only place I had used it in a few days. Really nice to do to someone a week before Christmas… Had to cancel it obviously and now I have to wait for the new one to arrive and then change all my automatic payments. I tried calling a few times to speak to a manager to let them know what happened but no one answers. The food was decent, but seems to have less toppings that the previous place. Employees are not that friendly either. I was filling my bowl and one cut in front of me to wipe up the counter and the towel he used touched the food in one of the bins. Gross.

We love Mongolian BBQ! This place… Not so much. :( All of the Mongolian BBQ places I’ve been to in SoCal and the Central Valley have been all-you-can eat. This is the first one I’ve been to that isn’t. The customer service here was seriously lacking. Like none at all. No thank you from the cashier and the dude refilling the meat rudely grumbled at me to stop getting some so he could refill it. You can say please, thank you very much. The selection of toppings and sauces was skimpy. We waited about 20 minutes in line to get our food cooked before we sat down. The food itself was pretty good but I got parts of someone’s tofu and mushrooms in mine. I don’t eat that stuff! Customer service is make it or break it for us. We go out to dinner almost every night and there are plenty of other places we’d rather spend our $. We’ll get our Mongolian BBQ fixes when we’re down South!

Once you pass the assembly line you can’t go back to add stuff. My first time there they had only the bottom off the pan of mushrooms so it wasn’t as appealing, but right before my food was put onto the stove I asked if I could add some. But the cook said no, but the lady behind the counter asked why not and I said it’s fine(he’s cooking the food so I respect his answer without arguing), but she left the assembly line to go talk to someone In the back and was gone for a few minutes. She just told me that if they were to do that all the people would ask for extra food, which I understood because it was busy at night. Thank you again to the girl for what you did. I went back again today knowing that and now my lunch was complete :)

First off, I’m not A HUGE fan of Mongolian BBQ, so I don’t have such a high expectation to begin with. This place is not bad. The sauce is great, I got terriyaki sauce when I came here. This is one of those places, where you’re supposed to stack as much as you can, but then you always feel like you’re not stacking enough. So to make thing’s better I feel like they should just stack for you and cook that way I’m not mentally feeling like I’m loosing out. They have plenty of frozen meat, which makes it hard to fit as they’re not wet and flexible. Instead, you will really have to press down the meat to make the most out of it. I argue that the mushrooms are great, but hey its just mushrooms. This place makes it super saucey– like post cooking, it was so saucey– it was like noodle soup. Lol

So, I love Mongolian BBQ but I LOVE my noodles! I’ve always purposely not piled on as much meat as humanly possible, so that I could very reasonably ask for extra noodles. Other Mongolian BBQ places I’d been to never had a problem with that. Cuz, you know, noodles are soooo expensive! This place, as always, I wanted more noodles than meat, but they refused to give me more noodles«because that’s the policy». Seriously? I would’ve piled on another two inches of meat if I knew of this«policy». Other people had their bowls packed with 2−3″ more food than mine from all the meat, but I couldn’t have a few more noodles? The selection of vegetables and other add-on’s was fairly small. At least they had my broccoli and pineapple. I took the risk of going this past Saturday afternoon. Between getting in line and actually receiving cooked food, it took 40 minutes. It didn’t help that they had two grills but only 3 guys working over one single grill. They also had each customer’s food so close to someone else’s while cooking. Between that and the lack of any type of cleaning between each serving, I got several pieces of vegetables(and mushroom?) that weren’t mine. I’m not sure which sauce it was that was very very salty. If I go back again, I’ll definitely cut down on the sauce. They definitely didn’t have the most hygienic practice. The employees refilling the meat would bring out large bins that had so much meat they couldn’t fill into the bins at the counter right away. They would set the bins with the rest of the meat on top of their trash/compost bins. I suppose technically what’s inside didn’t touch the trash. But I think they could’ve handled it better. P. S. No rice or rice bowls yet, as of this past Saturday(10÷10÷15). The signed said«coming soon».

The new location feels a bit more spacious and welcoming. The customer service is a tad strict. Everything is self serve. You pick your meat(more like frozen meat curls) and your won veggies. With that being said most folks including myself want more bang for our buck lol so people like me would press the meat down. Shameful self disclosure. With that said one of the cooks used me and my mom as an example to other consumers as as what not to do lol it’s all good I respect the health codes and their business. I will definitely be back. The food is flavorful and somewhat reasonably priced.

Not sure if they are the same people who had the Gengis Khan BBQ downstairs at the mall, but it’s basically the same stuff, same setup, same look, more seating but now it’s call Sun Gate BBQ. They moved in at the same exact except on the second floor of the mall. We went in for dinner in a Wednesday night, so not super busy, but I guess busy enough. They didn’t have anything. If you have been to one of these Mongolian BBQ spots, you pay, they give you an empty bowl and you fill it with whatever you want, meat, veggies, sauce and they stir fry it with noodles for you. Well, they were out of steam rice??? WHAT??? Out of steam rice? Ok, whatever, they were out of chicken, and the guy is slowly bringing it out, they were out of beef, no tofu, spinach, pineapple, mushrooms. Arghhhhh… I know they just opened, it’s a new business and it takes a min to get it running smoothly, but I with u didn’t pay first so I could just walk away and go somewhere else. Overall, fried noodles are delicious, but hopefully they will get their act together soon.

Tears of joy are running down my face knowing that my beloved Mongolian BBQ is BACK! And with a new name! The layout flows much better, there’s plenty of available seating, and the restrooms are super close. The food is just as awesome and yummy as I remembered but I felt like there were less toppings available. Maybe it’s just me. I also didn’t like this new thing they do, where they add the noodles at the top of my food mountain that I worked so hard to build and balance. At least they did a good job at not toppling anything over! However, when they start cooking your toppings, they toss all the noodles back into your bowl again, leaving almost no reason to add them to the bowl in the first place. You also have to be a bit vocal to the guys cooking your food, like if you wanted more sauce or if they completely ignore to cook the extra noodles you have on your tray. The other problem we had was that our cashier had issues with basic math when it came to giving change — and was also being stubborn about it but hey, being a mathematics genius isn’t required with money. Totally understandable.

They just opened today and they are doing great! Love the food! It’s such a pretty place they’re keeping it clean and the employees are doing a great job! Now on the second floor by JC Penny. Such a clean modern design and I love it. I’m so happy they’re finally open, construction took forever! Great food!

Just like any other Mongolian BBQ place, gather your food, have your food cooked and eat. I guess the people at the front hate their jobs because the look on their faces were just as unpleasant as one can be. From the two workers body language and stinginess of handing out napkins I’m assuming many people smash their food down when getting their meat. There aren’t any signs that says not too but I guess it’s a courtesy factor. Service from the front people sucked. The cooks were awesome as always. Fast food if your in a hurry.
