Honestly, awful. First thing, the restaurant smells horrible. Very musty and unclean. The bartender was extremely rude. Acted like everything we ordered was an inconvenience and gave us obvious attitude in every word she said. Drinks were not good. At all. Avoid this place.

Okay place to eat! Came on Memorial Day weekend, opted out of the festival food, and ended up here! Ordered Scotch Eggs, Fish and Chips(which was literally potato chips) the Angry Irishman, and the Salmon BTL. The Black and Tan was pretty good.

Great food and atmosphere. Our waiter was very attentive and kept our water glasses full. The prices were about $ 12 each meal.

The food here was just ok. We had the fried perch. It was a little overdone. The service was also just Ok. The server never bothered to ask us if we wanted dessert.

Food was decent and drinks were okay. Service ruined it for us. We sat down only to be instructed that«the kitchens closed» before any initial greeting whatsoever. I point out the part of the menu that says the kitchen serves fried food until 1:00 am. The waitress begrudgingly admits that only SOME of those selections are available and that’s what she meant by the kitchen is closed. Despite her poor attitude, we get our food which isn’t too bad. Nothing spectacular but it was fresh and warm. The waitress didn’t come back to check on us. She seemed pretty annoyed that we even existed and dared to come into the restaurant. Her attitude ruined it for me. I’d rather go somewhere else.

Was in town for the weekend for a friend’s wedding. A big group of us went here based on local recommendation. I had the Irish beef stew on mashed potatoes and it was amazing! I wish I could’ve finished the whole entire bowl because it was so good, but if I had I definitely would’ve made myself sick. The service was decent considering it was St. Patty’s Day. The waiter forgot a couple of things, but he apologized profusely. An overall great experience and would definitely return if we are ever in the area again.

My valentine and I visited here for lunch the waitress was very good and attentive to our needs. The bloody Mary’s were delicious and hit the spot. She had a salad and I had their fried bologna sandwich. No complaints at all on either. We would recommend this to anyone visiting.

Have ate here many times I fish Lake Erie regularly. I love the Scotch Eggs. The Perch basket is a definite must. Good amount of beers on tap. In the summer season it can be quite busy. But worth the wait

After searching all around the Catawba and Port Clinton area and not finding any great reviews we asked a local fellow who said McCarthy’s was his favorite. We were quite pleased, the perch was light with a crispy coating, nice well prepared sides. Walleye was a bit overdone. We were seated right away and our waiter was prompt and attentive without hovering.

In Port Clinton for a soccer game, we joined another family in stopping at McCarthy’s Irish Pub for an early dinner afterward. Parking on the street, our party of seven entered the restaurant and was immediately greeted by a hostess who led us to a table on the far side of the restaurant. Once our waitress approached, it took some time to order drinks, as she kept having to check and see if they were out of various beers. After striking out with her first three attempts at ordering apparently out-of-stock beers, one of parents in our group eventually just asked for a glass of wine instead. For simplicity’s sake, my son and I ordered water! Once the drinks were finally squared away, I ordered the Irish Packer sandwich, while my son selected the Belfaster. With our waters and tax, our bill was just over $ 17, which felt kind of pricey. Décor in the establishment was pretty standard for an Irish pub and restaurant, with lots of heavy, dark wood accents, a large bar, and signs advertising Irish beers including less commonly known varieties such as Kilkenny and Smithwick’s. The large screen televisions were a nice distraction, especially since it felt like our food took a while, especially considering how the restaurant was far from busy given the off-hour of our arrival. Unusually, our food orders were delivered to the table in four different trips by the waitress, so there was an awkward pause as members of our party with food politely waited several minutes for those who had not yet received their orders. Once we were finally able to dig in, everyone universally praised the large portion sizes and the great crunch of the McCarthy’s chips. One of the parents declared her Grilled Celtic Reuben to be the best reuben she had ever had, and my son really liked his grilled bologna sandwich. While my Irish Packer sandwich had a good flavour, the toasted bun rapidly turned into a soggy mess which made me afraid to put it down for fear it would completely fall apart. While I liked the atmosphere, good flavours, and nice portion sizes, it could not completely make up for the uneven service or high prices. Overall I rate McCarthy’s Irish Pub as being Good, and would return.

The shepherds pie was delicious, with just the right amount of everything. For an appetizer we ordered scotch eggs. They were amazing. I recommend not to be scared off by the idea or description. We finished dinner off with a kentucky bourbon barrel ale.

The good: both the fries and house made chips were exceptional. Their beer selection was fair and top heavy with Irish standbys(not a bad thing in an Irish pub right ?). Their Reuben was great! Good atmosphere. Good for both families and couples. Key lime pie was amazing. The bad: service while friendly was fair at best(maybe an off night?). The breading on the perch was a little heavy for my taste. Over all, would come back again if we are this way again.

It’s not anything fancy, but the food is delicious. I got walleye and my wife got Reuben sandwich. The staff was friendly and helpful. It’s split up into a dining area and pub area. I would recommend this restaurant.

McCarthy’s is a bar with pub food in Port Clinton. Expect fried perch, walleye and chips or fries. And a fair beer selection.

My buddy and me stop in to check this place out… especially the bar, and we sit down at their bar for a cold one. A blonde bartendress(Ariel) is busy talking to a co-worker across the bar and she walks by and says, «You guys know what you want?» No hello, good afternoon, hi, go to hell… nothing. She keeps on a walkin’ as she throws this query to us and starts doing something at the end of the bar as we look at each other with a, «Should we just leave?» look on our faces. Well, we stay and I ask her(loudly, because she’s not standing in front of us) if she has my favorite bottled beer. She replies but it’s rather loud in the joint so I say, «What?». She does the ‘Tsk’ thingy and rolls her eyes as she says something to me again, hollering at the top of her little lungs. I try to explain that I don’t hear perfectly and the place is reverberating with bar noise. Anyway, we eventually get a beer and she disappears again. A group of five people arrive and sit to my right. People that she knows very well and rides with(Motorcycles). She instantly goes to them and makes sure she takes very good care of them, socializing, bringing them drinks, getting them menus, etc. We finish our beers and my friend thinks about leaving two-bits for a tip. I thought that was appropriate. He decides to leave a buck. We’ll not return. We spend a considerable amount of time in this area. We don’t drink responsibly. Figure it out. What’s the Gaelic word for bitch?

Great atmosphere, friendly staff and the food was delicious! My boyfriend & I stopped in for lunch and we started with sauerkraut balls and they were yummy and for lunch we both had the perch I had the wrap and he had the sandwich which again yummy! I would definitely recommend this awesome Irish Pub to anyone who visits Port Clinton!

Every had a Long Island Iced Tea out of a jug while at a bar? My jaw dropped when I was served. Like many other reviews of the place in regards to their food, the overall opinion is that they have pretty overpriced and mediocre meals.

Bump to recommend their draft beer selection, which included Kentucky Ale(not the bourbon barrel, which was actually impressive because that’s the only one you ever see) and a rotating Catawba Island offering. Standard Irish choices fill the other slots and the prices were great. Need a decent vegetarian option. Badly. Come on. Recommended for a beer and appetizers.

Stopped for dinner on Thursday 10 July with 5 friends. One friend and I ordered the Walleye basket — his with homemade potato chips and mine with fries. My friend eats a fair amount of Walleye as that was the quarry for this particular visit to Port Clinton. He said this was the best Walleye he had eaten, and I easy agreed as the fish was battered and fried to perfection. Accompanied by a Guinness on draft and made for a great meal.
