I have been to Kimi many times over the last 8 years I have lived in PJ village. I hadn’t been there in 3 years because I thought the roe smelled fishy. I gave it another try last Friday evening. The entrée I ordered I have had at other sushi restaurants and have loved it: spicy tuna, salmon, and yellowtail tuna rolls. It all tasted the same. It was not spicy. It reminded me of puréed baby food. It was really bad. I ate 3 pieces picked at the fish part of two others and pushed it aside. I won’t be back.

Right in Port Jeff on Main Street. Very good sushi. Tastes fresh and delicious each time. They have good lunch specials and great tasting speciality rolls. The waitress doesn’t rush you, which is nice.

Although this is not an authentic Japanese restaurant and is not operated by any Japanese people, I’d expect better quality. The teriyaki is terrible. The sauce is too sweet and has a strange texture and for some reason they include a TON of onion with it, which makes it taste oniony and nasty. Teriyaki is supposed to be grilled(yaki means grilled in japanese) but their tofu teriyaki is fried even though the menu says grilled!.. It gave my friend really bad stomach issues after eating it. The sushi is ok. The udon is not what it should be. The staff however is friendly and the ambiance is nice and peaceful. The prices are meh. I just wish the food was better.

I used to love this local sushi joint but it has gone down hill. Not sure what happened. The sushi doesn’t taste as fresh and the fish has a plastic taste to it. So bummed we used to eat here at least once a week.

I ordered off the board specials instead of the menu. One of the rolls I got was lightly fried tempura style. Go figure, it was awesome! Also if you like fried oysters, their appetizer is really good.

I would have given them 4 stars, food was very good but they windexed the sushi bar and mopped the floor while I was eating… that’s just rude. They were not closing for 35 more min. I really enjoyed my food but the side of windex I could do without. It gets better they turned off the lights on me… mind you I tipped well and I was alone, not like I was with a crowd they had to serve and do a big clean up after. It was 9:40…

Came here for lunch, small place only three people eating. I had the box salmon. The food was good and reasonably priced. I would go back.

I enjoy the sushi and the location is great. They have great lunch specials. My only issue is that one tiny part of my Bento box lunch special had a crab component, and I am allergic. I don’t eat imitation crab because well, i’ve always grown up having to stay away from shellfish and even fake crab freaks my brain out, plus its rubbery and gross. The guy was very rude about it and charged me extra to make it a vegetable dumpling. I still keep coming back though.

Delicious! Came here twice in a week. And the price is worth the portion too!

Came here for lunch. Had the box special with Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura, California roll and a very tasty Shumai. It came with soup and salad. The portion of Shrimp was small but everything else was quite good. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back.

Came here because of all the great Unilocal reviews and the hype about this place. Very disappointed. The chirashi was made with what tasted like day-old fish. I have not had CHEWY raw salmon in a really long time… Perhaps because I have been spoiled by all the great Japanese food in California, but this is subpar. Given how much dinner cost and the quality, I do not think I will be revisiting.

Came in for a quick lunch-special sushi plate. Pretty good, quick service, small place with a small bar. Haven’t tried any other sushi places in Port Jeff. Would go back again though.

Great sushi, friendly staff, slightly expensive sushi. If it was 20% cheaper, it would be 4 star.

The one and only Japanese restaurant in the Village. Know the owners pretty well. The only place I sit is the sushi bar unless I bring 4 or more people. Have had pretty much everything on the menu. The Petsco Roll created and named after us. Delicious food all the way around. As the Chairperson for«A Taste of Port Jeffrson», Kimis has been a participant for 4 years.

Sushi We were out and about and in need of something to suck up some of the booze — so sushi it was. We made our way here as it happened to be right across from where we were at that moment and time and were quickly seated in the mostly empty place. The look and feel is your usual sushi restaurant type setting although this is not a Japanese owned place. The menu was fairly standard and we ordered up a pile of rolls and too many hot sake’s… in retrospect the sake probably was not a good idea but it seemed like a good move at the time. The rolls were all fresh and tasty which was much needed and we devoured what we ordered. Prices were actually pretty good considering the touristy location of the place and the help was very good — not the usual pushiness you get in other places to order tons of items that they know you cannot eat. Here they were very good and I would definitely go here again when in Port Jeff. Parking on the street and muni lots around the area. Good luck in the summer with that.

Lunch special exists even on a weekend! To me that is already a plus. I like this place. Fast, friendly service. I enjoyed reading the wine/sake menu because of all the different ways to describe a beverage that I did not even know existed. Fascinating! I was itching for noodles, so it had what I wanted and I was glad. I ordered a miso soup with an entrée of udon with noodles and thin sliced mushrooms and onions. I did not try the sushi, so I cannot say anything about it. My husband did get the bento box which came with quite a lot: a California roll, a salad, grilled salmon and some steamed vegetables. It was good. I did sneak some veggies off his plate. This place has a nice bathroom and a clean atmosphere.

I had high hopes for Kimi when it first opened… finally! a sushi joint on the main strip in port jeff village… awesome! After dining there, ugh was I disappointed. I’m giving this place 2 stars because the service is fine and the décor is nice, but the sushi is disappointing… maki rolls are small, hand rolls are sloppily made, the sashimi wasn’t fresh at all minus the toro that I had. I think my #1 pet pieve of sushi joints, is when you go to pickup your maki roll piece, it unravels on you with the inside goodness falling all over the sushi plate and making an entire mess… I hate when my pieces fall apart! Sloppily put together pieces of maki rolls are quite annoying! lol! COMEONSUSHICHEFS!!! It’s not that difficult… get it right! Seriously, how can you screw up a spicy tuna, spicy scallop or spicy yellowtail roll? So bland and boring… If you’re in pj village and have a honkering for sushi, go to hana, sushi ichi, benten etc… all not too far away… or change your thought process of having japanese to some other cuisine :) Now take this in to context folks, there are several sushi places that are closeby for the same amount of money that are far better, so I will end this review as I do my other 1 – 2 star restaurant reviews, «save your money and go somewhere else»

Kimi is a really cool place in Port Jeff. The owner used to work at my favorite Chinese restaurant in East Setauket a few years ago. I love the spicy grilled calamari and the rolls are always funky! I stopped in yesterday with my family. My teenager is on a roll kick and this is his favorite place to rock and roll. My wife ordered Udon with shrimp tempura — They give you a HUGE portion of food I ordered a Kimi Roll and my teenager ordered a cali roll. (My little guy had fried shrimp next door and just sat there eating french fries) Enjoy!
