Customer service was horrible. Stood on line and when it came our turn the cashier said we will take who is ready. I was ready but waited my turn. This allowed a very rude customer to jump the line. I walked out but then went back to tell them this was both rude of them by allowing the customer to pass us on line and rude of the customer to pass me and my family without asking if we were ready first. I was told by the cashier that they disregard the line in favor of who is ready. All I got from the cashier as well was a smirk like it was not something rude at all and I was just a jerk complaining for nothing. Not sure about the food as we did not eat there but the last time I did which was multiple years ago the food was not that good. Was willing to try again but not sure. If service is that bad how good can the food be.

This place is cute to stop in for a quick lunch! Chicken fingers, cheesesteak and fries were all good. They have a patio and serve beer too, which is always a plus in my book!

The Steam Room is a quick, casual, outdoor seafood joint in the heart of Port Jefferson, located directly across from the Bridgeport ferry. It’s a great lunch/early dinner spot that is mainly known for their extensive seafood menu, but offers non-seafood items as well. From fried clam strips, whole lobster, crab legs, seafood bisque, oysters, and clams on the half shell– they got it all. The food is consistent and the seafood is always fresh. The entire experience is a very laid back one. There are two seat-yourself dining areas, one a bit fancier than the other, that are both completely open on nice days. You place your order at the counter, receive a number, and wait for said number to be called. The service is quick, and the«fast-food» ambiance makes this place great. The Steam Room has been around for decades, and will be around for many more to come. The location is perfect, offering beautiful views of the Marina, and is within short walking distance to many popular spots down port, such as the ice cream/candy shoppe and a handful of bars. This restaurant is literally the essence of Port Jeff, so you’ll never really get the complete experience until you’ve eaten at The Steam Room. Highly recommended.

Great place to sit on a sunny day and enjoy fresh seafood. From their $ 5 cheeseburger to their market priced lobster meals, there’s something at every price point, and look for their daily specials for great deals(buy 1 get 1, etc…). The dining room opens up so you can enjoy the fresh air and beautiful weather. I have been here a few times for lunch and it’s been great each time.

The go-to in PJ for seafood. Their weekly specials are great. Wonderful atmosphere and outdoor seating where you can watch the ferry. Buckets of beer and reasonably priced fair. A must try for everyone in PJ. They have two lobster rolls– hot and cold!

Just typical fried seafood! Easy place to go before the ferry. Food is okay. Staff is nice.

Eaten here many times since 1994 as a college student at Stony Brook and now as an Adult, I can still enjoy the same delicious lobster bisque soup and other numerous crab and lobster meals. The dining environment is very casual and yet the food is very good. The staff is pleasant and the amount of available tables is deceptive because they have a large patio dining area. Never a disappointment here throughout the years.

This place is great! I always get the steamed lobster, and my boyfriend gets the fish and chips. The lobster is super meaty, and the fish and chips is crisp. They also have beer on tap. It’s bustling in the summer so be ready for a wait. Also, it’s counter service so you order and pick up your food from the counter, but there is staff around always willing to get you extra sauce and whatever else you need(be sure to leave them a tip!). Overall this is a great casual stop for lunch or dinner.

Revamped menu with the basics that have been on the menu forever. Lobster bisque is creamy and thick served hot, broiled seafood platter was good as are their fried selections. Wished they had more broiled lunch dishes under $ 17. But I paid and enjoyed. the only improvement that need to be done is related to the baked potato. both of us had them and they were hard. The scenery and location are excellent and they also have a fireplace to keep the room warm.

Great spot all year long but summer time you get live music. When you see the menu you’ll notice a lot of fried seafood. But they also have non fried items. Fried clams are good some were chewy but when you get a good piece man it’s good. My husband went with the tilapia grilled with veggies and rice he said he wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as mush as he did. The mozzarella sticks tasted frozen and the marinara sauce wasn’t good at all. Stay with the seafood and you’ll have a winning meal.

Mediocre seafood place popular with tourists is located right across from the ferry terminal. Best to come during the quieter winter for lunch. In summer, it’s too crowded. Their fried platters are okay and they could at least steam a lobster. In the winter, they have soup in a bread bowl which I noticed you get less and less soup through out the years. It’s counter service so there’s no wait staff however, the staff is pretty snooty. Prices aren’t so bad. It’s a so so option to come for lunch, dinner I would avoid. Only exception, Thursday night buy one get one lobster!

Almost missed this gem… We stopped here for a quick lunch during a(regrettably) SUPERFAST stop in Port Jefferson while I was home on L.I. for a long weekend. If you’re heading east on the north shore, and you don’t have time(or the energy, or the $$) to go all the way out to the Hamptons, DON’T miss this WONDERFUL waterside town! You’ll be instantly transported(once you find parking!!) to an awesome(ly) touristy spot(not that there’s anything wrong with being a tourist where you come from!!) that will take you away from the hustle and bustle that is most of Long Island, and bring to mind a seacoast village in New England. Walk around, take it all in, and wish you could somehow transplant all this back to your semi-landlocked new digs in Ohioooooo! Hungry? It’s that great salt air– Don’t fight it! There are tempting choices on every corner here. If you’ve got a special occasion, you’ll see exactly where to go, the minute you step out of your car, boat, or ferry, but if you want GOOD seafood FAST, without breaking the bank(and saving $$$ for all the junk/important things you’ll be tempted to get later) head over to the Steam Room, right across the street from where the ferries dock, and a true«working man’s» seafood feast! If you’re expecting ultra deluxe service in a top notch setting, this might not be the place, but it seems to me that most of the reviewers here were expecting caviar service for«fish stick» prices(relax, no fish sticks, it’s just an analogy!!) You order from the extensive choices posted at the counter, then find your seat and wait to be called back up to the counter to pick up your tray of deliciousness. We shared a catch of the day platter(perfectly cooked salmon), a wonderful crab cake, and a coconut shrimp platter(had to almost twist my arm to share this one/my selection, I’m sorta SHELLFISH like that(HA, get it?!?) along with a tasty Greek salad and three freshly made lemonades. TONS of choices, good cold beer, perfect setting(esp. in warm weather) what more could you ask for?

Walk on by! The only thing good is their location! Their seafood has the flavor of a cafeteria. We tried several dishes and we just ate a little threw most of it out, frankly it was not edible. One of our orders was their lobster roll, which the staff raved about. It showed a picture of lobster with butter on a roll. We’ll that’s what we got, but cold lobster on a stale bun and the only thing watm was the butter, seriously. So I asked and the lady said, yes cold lobster, I said again, with butter. We eat seafood a lot, in NY, CT, RI etc. Worst we have had by far.

Rude staff who really has no interest in taking customer orders and when they do take orders they can’t do so correctly. Disgusting bathrooms. Seriously, I’ve seen nicer bathrooms in NYC subway stations. The dining room was a mess and also filthy. There was some kind of yellow ooze coming off of the ice machine. Enough about the welcoming atmosphere. Let’s get to the food. We ordered the sangria, fried pickles, baked clams, lobster roll and the soft shell crab platter. Everything was reasonably priced(all that totaled about 70 which would be fine if the food was good). The sangria and pickles were fine. The lobster roll had a good amount of claw meat on it but that’s pretty much it, cold claw meat on a cold potato bun, no mayo, no seasoning. The baked clams tasted old and the only word I can use to describe the flavor of the soft shell crab would be «funky». It basically tasted like someone kicked it around the floor of the bathroom stated above then threw it on a plate, 12 hours later and I’m STILL sick from eating this. I wouldn’t recommend this establishment and I won’t be returning.

Now I see why this place has below average-average reviews. Not sure if I would bother returning here. LOCATION: The location itself is great because it is right by the water in Port Jeff, across the street from the ferry. You don’t really have much of a view when your sitting down eating, but the location is still a nice part of town. DECOR: Nothing special at all, very low key décor and all outdoor seating with plastic patio chairs and tables. FOOD: Ordered baked clams, 2 for $ 5, the Hot Lobster roll for $ 15 and crab legs with the BOGO special. The baked clams were very average, they tasted like store bought frozen ones that you reheat. A lot of bread crumbs, not much clam meat. The Lobster roll was definitely the let down of the three. The roll was a small hotdog roll and it was just dry lobster meat laying in the roll. There was a tinyyy bit of mayo on one side of the roll but for the most part the whole thing was very dry. It wasn’t hot either, quite cold actually by time I got it. It wasn’t necessarily bad, but it definitely was not worth $ 15 and not as good as other places. Crab legs were alright, pretty average. SERVICE: I was surprised to learn that this place doesn’t have a waiter service. You order your food at a window and then seat yourself and wait for your number to be called. Went around 7pm on a Monday night in August, not much seating available, the place was pretty packed out.

This restaurant is one of my favorite places to go for sea food! The view from anywhere you sit is amazing considering its smack on the corner of town so you get the water and a little bit of Main Street. There are two parts to the restaurant which I love. It is split into two casual dining rooms. The side facing the town is fantastic because the entire surrounding walls open up. The side facing the water is also delightful during the night with the fire place going and maybe some live music. They have specials almost every night during the week like BOGO lobsters! The prices a reasonable and they are all dismayed nice and clear. Another brownie point they earn is for booze! Piña coladas and beer are served here and it goes great with sea food! The only thing that puts me off about this place is the fact that they pre make a lot of their«easy to go» foods. Salads, lobster rolls etc. They wrap it up and keep it in the fridge. Yeck!

One of the few gems in Long Island, NY for their buy one get one free lobsters on Thursdays. Super fresh and available in both 1 lb and 1.5 lb variants depending on how ginormous your appetite is. The place itself is no frills yet with helpful and attentive service and efficient lines. An absolute must visit for anyone in the area.

I guess my expectations were too high, but the place looks more like a fast food seafood place that you would find at an amusement park more than a real restaurant. I heard that their Lobster Roll was not worth getting and that it had barely any lobster in it, so I decided to skip that. I ordered the Seafood Paella. It was very oily and felt very heavy. It came with a variety of seafood but most of the oysters and clams were empty. The plate looks big but it is mostly filled with empty shells and lots of rice. My friend ordered the Fisherman’s Platter and she said it was very bland. She had to add salt on it herself in order to get some taste. I also had the clam chowder, which I thought was good.

When your by a marina, you eat food that swam in it a few hours ago. This place looked quote, unquote — Fishy — at first glance. Fast food appearance, luncheonette quality food. The fresh fish special was the swordfish… Nicely prepared and freshly broiled. The sides could use some work. The baked clams were Delicious! And HUGE!!! Literally bigger than my palm. Never seen such large and juicy clams before. Fresh food, beer on tap, outdoor seating and marina view made this place a score for future dining. Try the Swordfish special, Baked Clams = the Bomb Lobster roll was tasty Can’t wait to try the Fish and Chips
