This place is hit or miss. Sometimes its great but others its just ok. The service has never been good and Ive been there at least 10 times. Ive had my appetizer brought to me after they took my entrée plates away. Ive sat for more than 10 minutes after being seated without a waiter taking drink orders or even saying they’d be right there on 2 occasions.
I won’t do the hibachi simply because its such a touristy thing so I have no feedback on that. The sushi is very good. the lobster tails are great. the muscles are ok but not something I’d order more than once.
the place is big and its very nicely decorated. The menu is good but personally I just think they need to focus on better service and all the rest would be acceptable

Best hibachi around! Sushi is super fresh. Sushi chefs will make you custom rolls and are very friendly. They have really good specials and they change day to day so be sure to call and ask what specials they have going on before you head in!

To awesome for words but I’ll try. Upscale very fresh good quality seafood very friendly helpful staff who explain what everything is. The tuxedo bomb is to die for I love this place and will forever come here for sushi as long as there’s air in my lungs. The best ever.

I have been going to Tonbo and advertised for them multiple times… I showed up at 850pm (they close at 9pm) and they wouldn’t even let me sit down. I always spend a lot of money, tip well, and even advertise on Facebook for these guys. They didn’t even care that I told them I drove a bit to get there after work. Just completely dismissed me and they weren’t even cool about it. They are never getting my business again. It sucks because the ambiance and food is better, but I think I’ll give Grille One Nine down the road my business. Horrible service to a loyal customer! Epic fail. Was very disappointed. Please fix your hours online — it says you’re open till 930pm here on Unilocal — false advertising.

We have been going to Tonbo for a couple years and really enjoy the food. The happy hour specials are great in the sushi bar. Sometimes service has been slow but more often then not is good. Fish is always fresh and delicious.

Food was not as fresh as It could of been. Eel sauce was clumpy, cold, chalky tasting not sweet tasting. I don’t even know that it was spicy tuna. Won’t be back.

I’ve been there a couple times since I’ve moved to the area. The food is decent, staff is usually pretty good. They could do some remodeling to fix the place up a little bit. It won’t keep me from going back again at another time though.

Great sushi & hibachi dishes available in the regular dining area. Salmon bagel roll was fresh & fabulous! Great sushi HH specials. This place seems to be a bit understaffed though, so plan on grabbing a drink & not being in a hurry.

The service is excellent, all of the chefs are entertaining. The food is great too. If you want faster service just eat at one of the dining room tables instead of the hibachi grills, the food is just as good without the show.

Tonbo’s is a Sushi & Hibachi restaurant in Port Richey, FL. The Sushi is always fresh & delicious. We have had most of the Sushi items on the menu & have loved them all. We’ve only eaten on the Hibachi side once & it was good also. There are other Sushi restaurants in the area & some are equally good. However none of them are as competitive, price wise. Bottom line, great food & great prices.

Delicious rolls. Especially the Lobster and Japanese Bagel roll.
We tried the sushi dinner platter for 2. $ 40ish for a good amount of food. Soup or salad. Sashimi and sushi. And 3 rolls (one specialty).
The only thing we didn’t like was the Coke. Multiple times it just tasted weird…

Sushi was very tasty, but Saturday lunch service was really slow. They appeared to be understaffed. Miso soup was hot and satisfying.

Meh, it was a decent hibachi grille! The wait however was extremely long!!! We waited over an hour to sit down, then we were probably there another 2 hours waiting on food. The chef/​cook didn’t really put on a show and it was my parents first time at Hibachi, which was disappointing. He forgot to cook/​bring out half of our meals so i’m sure that’s what took so long. Servers were not the greatest, didn’t see them much, had lots of empty glasses. Food was tasty though once we finally got it, and portions were good.
Not many choices for hibachi in this area, so I guess you could say it’s acceptable if you’re really in the mood for some hibachi!

I should have reviewed this place before but this review will focus on today’s visit. The 3 of us showed up just after 4:00pm for an early bird special for $ 10.95. We expected a choice of shrimp, chicken or sirloin with vegetables and choice of noodles or rice. This is not what we received. We got all three! With loads of veggies and noodles deliciously prepared by Jay. Hot saki was 2 for one and delivered hot by Melissa along with ice cold Saporo beer. The meal was finished with the Triology of Chocolate shared by all. Fantastic meal and the fact it was early bird makes it so much better. Only negative was the hairy man in the white wife beater t shirt at the table across from us. I commented to management they were lowering themselves by allowing this. And for those that might wonder if this REALLY affected my dining experience, yet, it did.

FOOD POISONING!!!
Everyone in the party got severe food poisoning after eating here! We had the hibachi and sushi appetizers.
Called the next day to speak with the manager about it and he was «too busy» to take my call, even after the hostess told him that it was a health-​related matter.
Don’t eat here!

My «tip» contains most of my review here. I will add that this was the best food we had in the area for the best value served by the friendliest, most attentive, yet discreet wait staff. Using the happy hour bargains, we had 3 special sushi rolls, lettuce wraps, 2 salads, and 4 :-) sake-​tinis for $ 38.00 before tip!!! See our photos.
We were seated in the sushi area vs the hibachi area but could see the fanfare and enjoyment.
We brought back a takeout menu to leave in our condo with high recommendation to visit this great place.
