Barbur Liquor Store

The staff is not only friendly, but very knowledgeable! There’s even a jolly Greek man to greet you when you come in! He’s very helpful. Also the whiskey section is HUGE, and most of the people there can point you to a great one! Except for the large Greek man, but he tries. The girl who works there is a babe, and you can usually get a funny story out of the mystery European man who’s always in good spirits. I’m not a regular or anything, I swear! But whenever I’m prepping for a party, this is the spot to go! And if you ever need to know anything about something you’ve never heard of, you can usually ask the tall guy with the tattoos, he seems pretty nice, but I’d definitely want him on my side in a fight. OH and this store actually has the owner there which is pretty cool to see. He’s not just sitting on a beach somewhere collecting a check, he’s involved and super friendly! I recommend it to anyone!

A liqour store is a liquor store… but this one is my favorite for a few reasons.
1) Hours. They are open late and on weekends.
2) Location. They are right on my way home from work in a very central Portland location.
3) They have always carried everything I am looking for, no matter how random or rare.
4) Most importantly — their staff is incredibly knowledgeable about drinks (practically mixologists — or former bartenders themselves) and always know how to help me find the right liquor and mixers for whatever drink I am wanting to make at home.

I’m still not used to the whole Liquor store thing here in Oregon. My friend and I went to the liquor store close to my apartment one night, only to find they closed at 7pm, ON A FRIDAY NIGHT. Devastating. Come to find out, most of the liquor stores close around that time.
So, we frantically looked up liquor stores in the area and found that Barbur Liquors was open until 10pm. Score! It was about 9:40p by the time we started driving. We made it in 15 minutes or so to find a really crowded parking lot. NBD. We walked in, checked out the decent selection and then stood in line to purchase the goods.
4 stars because they are open late. Otherwise, this is just any other liquor store. Worth the drive if you are in need.

If you want beer, you’ll need to go next door for the amazing selection offered by Barbur World Foods. But if you want hard liquor, this is your place, with a generous selection and store staff that have more than a passing knowledge of what they’re selling. As with other businesses at the corners of Barbur and SW Capital Highway, actually getting here by car isn’t as easy as it may look.

Oh man, stopped here once out of convenience, but never again…
Even though there were a handful of very young revelers right by the door, coming in and out repeatedly, one of the employees literally followed me, as if he was accompanying me while shopping, the entire time I was in there. Hmm, if I were worried about 5-​finger discounts at my liquor store, I think I’d be a bit more concerned about the hooligans hanging right by the door than the boring, middle aged woman. Just sayin’…
When I got back to the car, my husband informed me that some dude had approached him and asked if he wanted to buy some discounted meat from some local steakhouse. Wtf?!
This place is *totally* shady.

Okay it’s Super Bowl Sunday, I get it… But dude it’s incredibly RUDE to answer the phone in a snappy voice and the only words you say and then repeat is «eleven to eight» «eleven to eight» ARE YOU a ROBOT??? Cause if you are, that’s good. I was worried you had no common decency to properly and professionally answer a phone at a BUSINESS. Since you are a robot and have no feelings, I can say to you it’s Super Bowl Sunday, you, the business, someone there stands to make buckets of money. If the robot human answering the phone is the «owner», please fire yourself or possibly take some etiquette classes. If that was not the owner, maybe you should just have an ANSWERING MACHINE!!! No wages, workmans comp or benefits needed. Literally, repeated «eleven to eight». Lol robot if you had genitals, and could in theory F@&K yourself, I would tell you to go F@&K yourself – but since no man with balls answers a phone like a robot it doesn’t matter. What are you? Too important to day «hi». You work at a liquor store on Super Bowl Sunday, IT’S YOUR JOB to ANSWER the PHONE!!! I really hope you have an awful day robot man, no one loves you.

The best customer service! Always warm and professional. Love their hours, they deliver to businesses, and a great selection. They do take cards now as well as cash and checks! Its the only place I go.

Liquor places are kinda like gas stations, right?
The product is pretty consistent. The prices vary from place to place, but only ever so slightly. You frequent the ones on your regular route, or nearest your house. Décor and environment don’t mean that much, so long as they have the key liquid in question.
Once you’re established, the only thing that will keep you from returning is a rude interaction or major inconvenience, and it’s unlikely you’ll go out of your way for any particular store.
It sounds like maybe this store has changed hands in the last couple of years, because I don’t see any of the issues reported by previous Unilocalers and Unilocalettes.
They take my card happily. They have everything I want, and offer loads of local distillery options, and they make a point of being friendly and helpful but not all up in your grille whilst you ponder your potent potentials. And, it’s conveniently on my route home from work, so: fill ‘er up.

AWFUL!!! Most of the employees have zero customer service. They were extremely rude and disrespectful.

This has been my neighborhood liquor store for quite a few years but I had only stepped foot in there a couple of times as they were a cash only business (!) and had less than stellar service. They are now under new management and accept debit/​credit (yipee!). Big plus is that they are open until 10PM everyday as well. Add to that friendly customer service and it now makes it my go-​to spot for when I would like to get into a drunken stupor in the comfort of my own home.

It’s a liquor store. You already know why you’re here. As OLCC controls price, price doesn’t matter. What matters is that they only TAKE CASH. That green paper we used to carry around in the 90’s. The selection is standard.

Standard liquor store with lots and lots and lots of liquors. Prices are about the same as other liquor stores in this city. Friendly service, but they accept cash only (BIG BOOOOOO). There’s an ATM machine, but they will charge you service fee ($ 2 from ATM machine + $ 2 from your bank).
I just wish next time when I will make another visit to this liquor store, I can wear my Snooki’s Halloween costume again. It felt like I was the real Snooki and I was totally into my character. I ended up spent $$$ here and a bad hungover the next day. So much for fist pumpins.

I needed to add a correction here to the other two reviews. They have done a remodel and you can now walk right up to the shelves and grab the bottle you want.
Cash only doesn’t seem like it should be a problem. I mean if you are an alcoholic should you really be buying booze with a credit card? Really?
Edit: They don’t open till noon and the last time I went in there they lady cashiers stare at the customers like they are all thieves.

What can I say. when all the other liquor stores are closed this is the place to go.
The thing that this place going for itself are the hours. As mentioned by others it is open till 10pm most days as well as actually being open on a Sunday. In OREGON the hours are definitely a rarity.
I would have rated them 5 stars (because of the hours) however, this place is lacking in other important features — they DONT take credit cards — cash only, and everything is behind the counter — which just isn’t as fun.

Though I’m no expert on liquor stores, this one seems to have a good selection and fair prices. I prefer the stores that have everything on shelves out in the open because I like to browse, but everything is behind the counter here. Also, I’m pretty sure they only take cash now. There used to be an ATM inside that charged a small fee, but I think they’re strictly cash now. The absolute best thing about this store, however, is that they’re open until 10 pm! Hell yes! I think they close earlier on Sundays, but I usually get off work around 9:30 and it’s really nice to have an option after work. Thumbs up to Barbur Liquor for supporting my late night boozing needs.
