Big Lots

Big Lots is a ghost town most of the time, but that’s more a problem with Mall 205. I guess the store is fine, although I’ve never actually walked out of one with something I wanted to buy.
I’m writing this review because the manager — an older gentlemen I think incapable of smiling — was a complete jerk. We rented an appliance for a day, and when we didn’t clean the filter (something that was never requested or even implied) he actually lectured us on being irresponsible. I offered to take it outside and clean it, but I guess it wasn’t against policy to do that after it was turned back in.
The cashier wasn’t much better. A middle aged woman who scowled at us the entire time. They were both incredibly rude, based on a complete accident, and something we offered to fix. I don’t take that kind of attitude from people I enjoy being around, much less two Big Lots employees in an empty store that, quite frankly, could probably use our business.
Don’t shop here. Target is a block away.

It’s hit or miss but you can find some great deals on a variety of things. For instance, their electronics section, can find affordable phone covers, speakers, back up chargers ect. It’s luck of the draw, stop in and could find quite the bargain. They have cheap cotton ponies, Tupperware, slippers, pretty nice furniture. I go when I’m feeling adventurous and usually leave with SOMETHING I wanted/​needed at a lower price. If not I leave and put a few bucks in Sally’s video poker machine.

I only go here for the food items. I got a really good deal on coffee once and have been trying to recreate that experience. I like that they have random imported food items, thing I don’t see at Winco.
One time the female checker packed my bags so lightly I had to have 10 bags to hold everything. Kevin must not have been around. I like that they have handle paper bags, and in my opinion every store in Portland should have paper bags with handles, they rock.

Not a bad place overall. The employees are somewhat friendly. I really don’t like the prices on their small food selection. It would be nice to also add a frozen section maybe? Just more variety in food!
I LOVE their furniture though! I found so many cheap pieces here. I would gladly get my furniture here once I get my new place. :)
The only thing missing is that they need a little more variety in certain items, like shampoo, feminine care, cereal, and electronics. I understand space is limited but try your best filling in some new items!
