Nothing beats a luau with family in Iao or pulling fresh kalua pig from the imu. Hawaiian Time is really good plate lunch. My party had the Mauna Loa Chicken and Huli Huli chicken, both really good, well marinated chicken. The peppery, mayo mac salad is on point for and the rice was good(you can actually make bad rice — soggy or dry. HT nailed the rice). I also got the Kalua Pork plate lunch and was a fan of the smoke flavor, but I wasn’t a fan nor expecting the spice: most Kalua Pig is just smokey, the spice was off putting. I think either too much red chili peppers got put in the batch or too much chili oil. Ultimately: I liked this place. I like the simplicity of the menu because it’s plate lunch: MEAT, MACSALAD and RICE! :D And the portions are awesome! Dakine, Regular and Ali’i(King). My party got 2 dakines, regular and 1 Ali’i and this was more than enough for 6 people. Keep up the good work! Chhhheeeeeeee!!!

I am a regular patron when I’m I the area. The food is good and plentiful. I prefer the maniloha chicken. It is a sweet and spicy dish. They will make it as spicy as you would like. Medium heat is perfect for me. Very flavorful. It is a converted gas station which adds to the weird ness of the place.

Delish! Parking is difficult but thats not their fault. All of NW Portland is impossible. The chicken is sooooo good, and the cold mac pairs with it perfect.

Creamy/Peppery mayonaisey mac salad! Yum… Their mixed plates are delicious, you cant go wrong. Their prices are reasonable. Perfect hangover cure. Go here, eat a lot and be happy. Get an extra side of mac salad if you are feeling fat. Go for it!

I spent longer than I want to admit picking where to have lunch today. Let’s just say it was well worth the wait! Huge delicious portions. My mac salad didn’t seem bland like others have mentioned — however I kind of like bland food so take what you want of that. I like the random music selection I had the #5 teriyaki steak. So good! Lots if veggies. Full of flavor I added more teriyaki sauce.

I’ve been going to this restaurant for years. I don’t believe what Ezra said about Janice. She has always been very friendly, professional and gives great customer service! The food is great too!

There is a difference between Hawaiian/island inspired and legit Hawaiian food. Hawaiian Time is legit Hawaiian food, except they have no musubis or katsu!!! They did serve entrees as plate orders(mac salad and rice, or other side options). The kalua pig I had was one of the better ones I have had outside of Hawaii. The rest of my group raved about their orders, except for the macaroni salad. It was pretty bland and mayo-ish. There was no tang to it. I put furikake on it to jazz it up, and yes(!!!), they had furikake! Drinks were a large selection of Hawaiian Suns. If you have not had before, Lilikoi is one of the best. I also think they had soda but I was far too excited to eat to notice or not. The location has limited parking and limited space. There were three groups of us in the dining area and I am pretty sure I was able to eavesdrop on all of their conversations at one point… I am not that nosey, I promise! Overall, I enjoyed this place. If I were in the area, I would likely go again but would also be interested in finding places with katsu and musubi, two of my all time faves.

Hawaiian time is always dependable. The staff is really nice and has a great attitude. The only downside is the parking lot does not have a in and out side and is often times full. In addition soda machine over carbonates the drinks. I would love if you all stayed open a little longer. Hard to pick up dinner in time and your food is soooo yummy!!!

Delicious. The huli huli is my favorite and the«scoop» portion is generous. Their mac salad is not my absolute favorite but it’s still good.

The five star rating is partly nostalgic and partly just because I love one of Hawaiian Time’s dishes more than life itself. First a story… I first experienced HT about 15 years ago when it was just a single, poorly run shop by Autzen Stadium in Eugene. They would regularly run out of ingredients and close for periods of time. The customer service was also ridiculously bad back then. Despite all the negatives, people kept going back for three reasons: the Mauna Loa Chicken, the macaroni salad and the teriyaki sauce. Fast forward past the new owners and new locations and those three things remain at the core of what makes Hawaiian Time great. The other menu items at Hawaiian Time are good, but your experience will not be nearly as awesome as it could be if you don’t follow this recipe for success: 1. order the Mauna Loa chicken with an extra scoop of macaroni salad 2. mix the chicken, rice and mac together in the container 3. douse with an extremely liberal amount of teriyaki sauce(the rice should be floating in sweet brown liquid) 4. devour

WOW! The guy on the phone didn’t know anything about the menu! Had no idea if the place served spam musubi or not and didn’t know what furikake was. It’s seaweed flakes sprinkled on top of the rice! Know your menu! Know your shit! The food is mediocre. I’ve spent many summers in Hawaii and this food doesn’t even compare. Go to 808 Grinds if you’re looking for good Hawaiian food.

The décor might leave a lot to be desired, and it might look like a gas station from the outside but the food is incredible and authentic. The beef is perfectly seasoned and cooked. The rice is the perfect amount of sticky, and the macaroni salad is fresh and tasty!

WORSTPLACEEVER!!! Where do I begin. The overall appearance of the place is so tacky and unsophisticated, it looks like a gas station. The wait staff is for lack of a better word lazy and unaware of how to talk to humans. And finally what kind of restaurant doesn’t have an air conditioner? No one likes to be hot and sticky while eating. They might as well tear down the very dirty and disgusting tables they have left and be a fast food joint. Did I mention I had to wipe down my own table just to eat. Frankly if their food didn’t taste acceptable that place would have been torn down years ago!

Fast, friendly and uncomplicated. Reasonably priced food, the only downside is if you have a car parking is kind of a pain in the backside. Other than that, this place is good eats. The mac salad is a mayo lovers dream!

The food is tasty enough, but they lose a point for lacking variety. It’s just meat, rice, and Mac salad. Throw some pineapple or green pepper in their guys, it’ll be healthier and tastier. Tables were sticky, staff was friendly, and service was fast.

It’s been a long time since I’ve eaten Hawaiian food; the location looks like it’s a converted gas station. They’ve done a great job with the place. And there’s parking! The food was ok. I had a mixed of the special beef and veggies; I was disappointed that the meat and vegetables were mixed together. Most Hawaiian places offer vegetables to go along with the ordered meat, but not this one. The food tasted good. The macaroni salad was great!

The reviews were so mixed here; some loved it and some hated it. I decided the only way to know for sure was to try it out myself. On my way out of the office, my boss mentioned that he’d been here once. He enunciated the word«once.» I got the Mauna Loa chicken, spicy, as many Unilocalers recommended. Sadly, my chicken tasted like it was literally slathered in only Huy Fong Foods Garlic Chili Sauce. You’ll know what I’m talking about if you’ve been to any traditional Asian joint. The kicker? Not much kick, just a mouth full of chili paste and some sliced peppers. The meat itself was very dry/chewy and oddly enough, chopped very inconsistently. Such a weird thing to think, «man, my chicken pieces don’t match in size.» However it was apparent as some pieces were huge square blocks and others were small strips. They also skimped on the meat portions, I ordered the regular and it seemed like the small size other similar places offer(especially for a Hawaiian joint; a namesake Hawaiian joint). The macaroni salad wasn’t flavored very well, all I tasted was mayo and pepper. Our food wasn’t awful by any means, however it wasn’t worth the $ 8.95. Especially considering the amount of great eateries within a few blocks. The only thing that Hawaiian Time has going for them, is the fast turn around. We were in and out within 5 minutes, even during lunch rush hour. The service was friendly, too. I’m bummed, as this is two blocks from my work but like my boss, I’ll probably never go here again.

I wanted to try this place for a while, and well… this place was just alright. Reminded me of typical Territory food, not much Hawaiian about it. It wasn’t horrible and was satisfying, but there are a lot of other better food options out there. I ordered lunch here since I was at a workshop near by and got a 2-meat combination plate with two different flavors of chicken. My meal looked good, but for $ 10 I feel like there should have been more meat. The servings were somewhat small. It came out with the meat layered on some brown rice(which tasted and felt sort of dry and low quality) with another scoop of rice and macaroni salad. The salad was well peppered and tasty without anything else in it. It was pretty solid. The meat was very oily and tasted low quality as well. My main concern was I didn’t taste much distinction between the two different meats I got. I think one was titled«Volcanic» and it wasn’t spicy at all. Overall it felt like fast food quality stuff. It was worth giving a shot, but I don’t really recommend this place. Especially for«Hawaiian» food. Maybe I need to explore the menu more though. Any recommendations for some good Hawaiian food anyone?
