My boyfriend and I popped in this place to grab a drink while walking around the pearl district. We were visiting from SF and had no idea what places we should check out. With the help of Alex and Slater they gave us excellent recommendations and made us feel extremely welcomed to Portland. We got to sample their delicious house margaritas and we were very impressed. We both felt that they made our trip with the recommendations and being friendly! Thanks again guys!

Food: A Atmosphere: B(nothing special) Service: B Mexican food here is different– different in a GREAT way. The chef incorporates a much more authentic, modern, but flavorful cuisine. While it’s very difficult to make a bad choice, I would HIGHLY suggest the Gringos con Mole– extremely flavorful, DELICIOUS tortillas, but also flavorful mole sauce. Additionally, don’t forget the ceviche– delicious blend of beautiful fish and avocados with their amazing tortillas. Atmosphere and Service were fine, nothing terrible but also nothing great.

Always had a great meal here. I love the flavors. now they are not mexican food it is advertised as farm to table with a mexican flair which is exactly what Verde Cocina is. Great serving portions and decent price. Try the beef brisket quesadilla if they have it available. I’m so impressed of the simple small menu, everything seems to be done to perfection. And the tortillas! OMG love these. Corn tortillas that are handmade.

We were pleasantly surprised! Cute atmosphere and felt very portlandish! The food was very tasty and the dessert was to die for! Thres letches cake the best! They were short handed but overall experience was very good!

I came here with a couple of girlfriends after a detox flow at yoyoyogi. It was my first experience of Mexican in Portland, and I was pretty happy with it! We started with the guacamole, which was just ok and could have used some salt and spice, but the homemade corn tortillas that it was served with were amazing. I got the carne asada salad and loved the steak as well as the roasted sweet potatoes that came in the salad. The food that the other girls ordered looked delicious as well. I would definitely return to try some other things on the menu!

I have been looking forward to trying Verde Cocina for months and finally made it for brunch this last week. I had the Buenos Dias Breakfast with the smoked candy bacon and handmade corn tortillas and was thoroughly impressed! Such delicious flavors and everything was so fresh and cooked perfectly! The candied bacon is to die for: perfectly sweet/salty combination and has the most excellent texture. I have been craving it ever since! FYI, this is NOT your typical Mexican fare! This is fresh farm-to-table Mexican-inspired fare. Gluten-free options, vegan and vegetarian options, and Paleo-friendly as well. I will definitely return very soon! I seriously cannot stop thinking about that candied bacon!

I guess it is my own fault for not doing my research before eating here. There is NOTHING Mexican about the food here other than using traditional Mexican meal names for their dishes. If you want a tasty vegetarian meal, this is the place for you. If you mistakenly walk into this place wanting a good Mexican meal you need to go elsewhere. This is not Mexican food with a flair, It’s just tasty vegan choices, but nowhere close to being called a Mexican meal. My Chilaquiles looked like Chinese Vegetable stir fry with garbanzo beans and a few corn tortillas thrown in. Waitress was very nice, but very very slow service.

Fresh take on Mexican cuisine with Oaxacan cheese and mole and an amazing pork belly/potato green salad to start off the meal. I ordered the special: lamb barbacoa enchiladas with mole sauce and the meat was tender and I really loved the flavors. What’ll keep me coming back to Verde Cocina is the wonderful presentation, flavors, and fresh ingredients, elevating typical ‘unhealthy’ Mexican fare into a satisfying and healthy meal. I’ll be back for sure — and to try the cocktails next time!

The food here is pretty terrible. I’d say a 2.5 but I’ll round up as our server was super nice. So now for the bad– the food. I get it– they’re trying to make a fresher, healthier version of Mexican food. I can appreciate that, but there’s a reason Mexican food tastes so freaking good and kale and low fat are not 2 words that come to mind. We started with the guac appetizer– flavorless. Needs a little chili and more lime, The portions are huge here(which in this case equates to a whole lot of poorly made food). My main entrée also forgettable(I can’t recall what I ordered– it was just that awesome). Seriously this is bastardized«Mexican food» and not worth your wallet/calories. Go elsewhere…

As a lover of Mexican food, I’ve been excited for quite some time to finally try Verde Cocina. They seem dedicated to fresh ingredients and healthy recipes that accommodate a variety of dietary restrictions. It’s got quite the reputation, and I’m sure many will say it’s well deserved. For me, however? I found the place disappointing. And really, that comes down to our wildly conflicting definition of one word: taco. So, it’s International Taco Day! Oh, and this fancy-pants Mexican restaurant has on special a taco combo: beef, chicken and shrimp. I;d bet that most reasonable people would expect to get something that looks like a taco, or rather three tacos, one for each protein. I’d also bet most people wouldn’t at all anticipate what you REALLY get: a plate of random greens, topped with the three meats, onions, jalapeños and for some strange reason, green beans. Oh, and there are thick corn tortillas on the side. It was a decent meal, even though the steak was quite overdone. You know what it wasn’t? Tacos. There were a few other blips along the way, including a somewhat surly server and pretty blah apps until we were able to doctor them up. Still, None of that bothers me too much and I’ll probably return. But when a food item is as universally understood to be one thing, and then they sell you another without explanation? This dude cant abide.

We came here after learning that Los Gorditas was closed(no sign noting that they will not be open!), so glad we did! We got the Huevos Rancheros and the Chilaquiles. Both were excellent with the farm fresh eggs and the generous pile of vegetables on top. I wish this was in LA, near my house! + only $ 20 for 2 dishes.

Went here for Sunday brunch! I was craving something fresh and light, so the Verde Salad really hit the spot. Strawberry, apple, cucumber and mango slices with corn and vinaigrette over a bed of mixed greens. Perfect way to start the morning. The other nice part about brunch here is that there was no wait at all to get seated!

I stopped in for lunch recently on weekend with a friend and was less than thrilled with the whole experience. The menu seems pretty healthy, for the most part, so I figured the pork tacos that were on the daily specials menu wouldn’t be incredibly heavy. The meat had so much liquid that the corn tortillas fell apart instantly and made eating them with a knife and fork essential. As a result, the guac was basically swimming down the plate. It was messy and not in a satisfying way. My friend ordered a similar dish with the same meat and was also unimpressed, though her items were more deconstructed so it was considerably more manageable. We both walked away with stomach aches and agreed that the food was definitely not worth the calories. Which is extra disappointing because usually even a bad taco is still a taco, and tacos are glorious. This was something else.

I am on a mission to find the best Happy Hour in Portland and Verde Cocina could easily take the title. They are serving up incredibly flavorful food, expertly mixed drinks, and awesome service in a dining room that is crazy festive. My own personal Happy Hour consisted of a Margarita Puro, Chicken Tacos, Guacamole and Tortillas, Sweet Potato Black Bean Salad, and Gringas con Mole. A lot, I know. But I am a sampler and had a really hard time narrowing down my choices. My indecisiveness paid off. Everything ordered was delicious and I had plenty of leftovers for later. If you’re not as keen on ordering that much food, I recommend the Gringas con Mole with veggies. It will knock your socks off. The mole sauce is divine and you’ll still get to sample one of their phenomenal housemade tortillas.

They are now at the Shemanski Park Farmers Market on Wednesdays. I had the chicken in adobe — came with a corn tortilla and their signature garbanzo bean mash and their lovely seasonal fresh veggies. Couldn’t be more satisfied with my yummy healthy meal in the middle of the work week. Everything is made right in front of you at farmers market location, so you know what is going into your food. So fresh!

Simple, fresh and delicious. No, this isn’t tex-mex. We weren’t given a basket of chips with salsa and cheese. Come to think of it, we didn’t have cheese on our main dish either. I did have a gorgeous and delicious paella with salmon, shrimp, greens and rice. My husband had tasty carne asada on a bed of greens. Our meals were bright, fresh and I didn’t feel like a Rollie Pollie after! I didn’t feel guilty at all. The space is date night worthy or even a great place to grab drinks and food with friends. The drinks were great, the service was great, the ambiance was great… I will definitely be back.

This was seriously the best Mexican food I’ve had. EVER. I had the Chile Relleno, and it was so filling and so delicious I wanted to die. The cheese was perfectly melted, the quinoa was slightly crunchy and the peppers were roasted just right. They also had added a slice of baked apple on top, and it complemented the rest of the dish beautifully! Nice touch. The food is a perfect 10/10, but I thought they took way too long to serve just one person on a lazy Easter afternoon when there was nobody else in the restaurant. It took me half an hour to get my food, and that’s a bit too much for me, especially when I’m starving. The one star I deducted is precisely for this delay. I will definitely come back and hope to get faster service so that I can update this review to give this place the 5 stars their food rightfully deserves.

Perhaps, one of the best happy hours in the Pearl and I’ve walked in and staggered out of most of them. Verde Cocina is a nice location down the street from REI with roll up doors. Perfecto, casual ambiance! Bueno servers! My wife and I shared 2 happy hour generous dishes, both meaty and good veggies. The Chorizo Y Queso Fundido($ 5) and Panzita del Puerco con Fuego($ 6) with Sasquatch IPA on tap($ 3.75) – great value, taste and presentation! And don’t panic, it is organic – local, farm fresh or grass-fed. Hard to beat, friends! We have dined here too! We farm-to-forked up some carne asada over mashed potatoes with greens – excellent – large chunks of grass fed beef. The pork belly con fuego appetizer brought tears to my eyes and scorched my throat(gave me hiccups) – way over the top spicy but nice yummy chunks of pork belly – and I «go-for» spicy. If the menu says«con fuego!»(with fire), it is muy muy caliente(very very hot) so take the salsa heat as a side dish and use sparingly – that’s my hot tip! No mas con fuego! Bravissimo! Hasta la vista Unilocaler!

3.5 stars for this new age mexican place in downtown. Its a nice cheery environment, and good service. They are a gluten free mexican place and their food is a bit too healthy for my taste. Others may find it exciting though! I got the chilaquiles which is a egg scramble with kale chickpeas and other stuff. I think it lacked a little bit of zest and flavor.

The best thing that Verde Cocina has going for it is that it is a dedicated gluten free business. For all the Celiacs, people with gluten allergies, or gluten haters, this is a safe place for you. They do also designate which menu items contain nuts or can be altered to be Vegan or are naturally Vegan. This isn’t your stereotypical Mexican food, think more farmer market inspired Mexican food. While most would expect to see chips and guacamole listed as starter, you will not find it. Instead, you will find Guacamole & Tortillas, which in itself could be a meal for one. Even their cheese quesadillas is severed with an assortment full of fresh and local veggies. Overall, the portions are huge, especially for the price. As for the food, it was definitely different from what I was expecting. The ingredients were fresh, but the meal as a whole left me feeling underwhelmed. The combination of quesadilla and veggies was just a bit odd. The drinks did round out the meal nicely.
