I recently started commuting to work by bike, which required dusting off the olé’ bicycle I’ve had and hardly used for something like ten years. It had never had any sort of tune-up in all those years, and with my sudden daily commute it quickly became evident that the thing could use some TLC. It was squeaky, sluggish, and changed gears very clunkily. Enter Lucky 13! Being really close to my house and offering a Unilocal deal, I decided to give it a go for a tune-up. I dropped my bike off after work and expressed to Reggie, the owner, the issues I was experiencing with the bike that I hoped to have addressed. He thoroughly answered all my n00b questions and agreed to look into each problem I noted. He also advised replacing the brakes since they were quite old, to which I agreed. I left my bike in his hands, and 24 hours later he had it ready for pick-up! My bike now rides quietly, smoothly, and the gears shift like a dream. I’m completely satisfied with the service, and now nerdily excited to bike everywhere. I’d definitely return for future maintenance!

I found this shop as a result of a Craigslist ad for what looked like a really decent deal on a new bike. I’m new to cycling, so something that really stood out was that he asked me why I’d picked this particular bike, even after I’d given every indication that I came in intending to give him his full asking price and walk away with the bike. Reggie was genuinely more concerned with making sure that what I was getting was right for me, rather than just closing the sale. I wanted to buy some gear also, so I looked around his shop while he helped other customers, who all appeared to be regulars who trust his service and expertise. His advice on picking the right accessories for me was really helpful as well. This kind of service shows the pride he puts into Lucky 13, and that makes it the kind of place I want to do more business with. Thanks, Reg!

I got a bike off of craigslist and quickly found that I needed a tune-up, so I decided to check out Lucky 13 at the urging of a friend of mine. Dropped off the bike just fine and the guy(Reggie I believe) said he would have it done in about three days which was a Friday(I dropped it off on a Tuesday) maybe Monday if things got busy. I hear nothing back from him by the time a week rolls past so I decide to give him a call and he gives me some bad news. Unfortunately due to my lack of knowledge I purchased a less than ideal bicycle and basically I was told the bike was a piece of junk and shouldn’t be fixed. I was bummed of course but I only put around $ 100 into the thing so I put new breaks on it and plan on riding it until it poops out on me basically. I put the breaks on because the guy recommended that I at least put them on if I wanted to ride so I agreed and I also mentioned that the cables needed to be replaced, he told me he’d get it done and that was that. When i went to pick my bike up, it indeed had new breaks on it but he didn’t replace the cables, so the break pads don’t really solve my problem. The reason for the two star rating is simply because one, he didn’t fulfill his time commitment, he gave the bike back to me on thursday which was nine days from when i dropped it off… he told me three days maybe four business days at the most, it took him seven. On top of that, he didn’t contact me, I contacted him and then he told me the news, I would have appreciated if he simply told me ahead of time. I’m a big boy, I can handle bad news haha. The second reason for the two star was because of the way in which he told me the bad news, it was quite frankly, unprofessional. He told me verbatim«your bike is like three meth heads got together, found some bike parts, and threw this thing together in a night». Now, I found it quite funny at the time since I realized I had just thrown a hundred bucks away but in all honesty, it didn’t rub me the right way. He went on and on about how the bike I had purchased was a piece of junk and that I had made a very poor decision(thank you, I realize that now). The sense of elitism this guy had in his tone was astounding and I couldn’t believe the way he was talking to me. He could have just said«you bought a money-hole, I don’t recommend you fix up the bike» and I would have said thanks and went about my day, but he went on for about five minutes just bashing me on my decision. As a first time purchaser of a bicycle, I realize I made a mistake but instead of giving me tips on how to avoid future mishaps, he took the opportunity to bash me on it. TLDR; I give two stars because he missed his promised date of completion by three-four days, he made no effort to contact me, he didn’t apologize for the late completion, he was unprofessional, he didn’t do what I paid for(new breaks AND cables, only received breaks). Maybe I had a bad experience since my friend who recommended him to me was taken back by my experience but it doesn’t change the fact that I received sub-par service. Try this place out if you have a fancy bike, but for first timers, I don’t know if it’s a good place to start out.

I wish I could give this place a good review as it is very close to my house. I have been to the store 3 times. Each time, I am treated rudely and they never have the parts I need(first time was a tube!). Today I went in looking to borrow a pump and ask a question about setting a tire up tubeless. When asked for advice, I was told«I recommend a tire, they work well» in a very sarcastic tone. Obviously doesn’t have a clue. But makes sense since no one is every in the store when I walk by. I would not recommend, unless you want to be treated like crap.

This spot is great. They are always friendly and help me with what ever I need to keep my bike rolling. Thanks and keep up the great work. I plan on re– visiting this place when I need some repair. In the past I had a troubled rear derailer that I couldn’t fix on my own. I brought my bike in and the shop fixed it on the spot. It turns out the derailer was bent just a little so the chain was unable to stay in gear and was slipping. To finish, I recommend this shop for your business any time.

Easily the best bike shop in town. No shop has been more friendly an helpful in my life. I live in the né and ride all the way down to south east just to come by Reggie’s shop.

Stopped in here for some lights after checking out a deal they had on Unilocal. The guy who helped me was super nice and chatted with me throughout my time in the shop about lights, Portland, life, etc. A young kid stopped in for something while I was shopping and the guy was equally awesome and helpful to him. Super nice shop with service to match — definitely earned my respect and my business.

My favorite bike shop in Portland. Not a huge shop they more than compensate with expert advice and work without the side of snark I usually get at good bike shops. Limited yet high quality stock, they will order anything not on hand and have it usually that week. Reggie builds quality bikes and is a sizing expert… I have had him adjust a few bikes for me and I always leave on a much better fitting bike. Very important. It’s location is quite fortunate, a quick walk to about 20 food carts around 50th/Div and 2 bars(North being 2 doors down). Call ahead on sunny days as I notice they can get very busy.

I live literally around the corner from this shop, and kept meaning to check it out. I’m a cycling n00b and went in yesterday in need of a helmet, and the staff at Lucky 13 was helpful and friendly. They didn’t make fun of my cluelessness, and patiently walked me through their entire selection of helmets until I found the perfect one. I walked out with a shiny new blue and white Giro helmet and I couldn’t be happier with my experience. I’ll be back this weekend for more supplies and a tune-up on my Schwinn! Thanks Lucky 13. I love that you’re my neighborhood bike shop!

These guys are the real deal. A lot of bike stores have real flashy things, cool videos playing, and bright lights. But rarely, do you find people as passionate, and honest as these guys. They are incredible bike mechanics, super fast, very reliable, and have some amazing bikes. BMC’s to be exact. They even have their own cool jerseys. And they make their own bikes too. You won’t find a huge inventory, but what you will find is maybe the best bike shop in the city. And they will get you anything you need or want.

Really dig this place. Reggie helped me build my hard to find dream bike at a better price and with WAY better, hands-on service than I would have gotten online. Always feel good going back in and shooting the sh*# with the guys in the shop. Laid back, no pressure, no «bike-shop» stress while still getting incredibly knowledgeable service.
