We saw an ad in the local paper offering a free appetizer with two entrees. It was hot, free food, I haven’t been to this restaurant before… When we get there, the free appetizer is only in the bar. Mind, the place was empty at 18:45, both sides. It would be a good time to compromise, but no — rather not make a happy new customer for the business. I had the special, Salt & Pepper Squid, my companion had the Oyster Sauce Beef. Good flavor on the beef but it was tough. The squid was battered in a light tempura and deep fat fried. First, let me say there is a lot of squid with spicy vegetables in this dish, you won’t be able to finish. That said, the squid was slightly tough and completely flavorless. The service was average, the place is in a pleasant sylvan setting, it does not look like the usual Chinese restaurant. Big extra points for a very distinctive soy sauce that I have never tasted before. Much more complex, and a deeper smoky flavor. Bumped them up from 2 stars. All in all I won’t be back.

Has anyone else been noticing that local Chinese food places have begun to disappear, close down and those that remain are appearing to be also looking like their just months away from closing their business too? What is happening here? Are they being replaced by the new rage of the Phở and Ramen shops? With that being said, I found a place that I hope doesn’t close their doors anytime soon. When driving by this unusual area for me, I turned around in their parking lot of the questionably outside appearance of this Chinese restaurant. I was intrigued though by the amount of cars that filled their good sized parking lot. I had to stop. So glad I did. The restaurant was full but to my surprise, their was an upper seating area and even more after that. Plenty of room for larger parties at the top. I sat in between both floors where there was a fireplace, booths and large circular table. I sat down and was instantly asked what type of soup I wanted. Sweet, complimentary soup and tea makes a happy me! I elected for egg flower and then glanced at the menu in front of me. So many options and of all the great things I love in Chinese food. It read all lunches come with soup, white or fried rice, spring roll, fried wonton and choice of entrée. Wow! What a deal! How can they be in business? This seems like an obvious loss for the kitchen but okay! Kung pao chicken and even Kung Pao Shrimp, almond chicken, green been bf/chk, the list went on and on. I decided to try their broccoli beef. The food came quickly, largest lunch Portions I’ve seen for Chinese food. The quality of beef was better than I have had at other Chinese places. The flavors just how I remember Chinese food should taste like. Good! And at a price like this, I’ll definitely be coming back. Other Chinese food lovers should know and visit here too, I don’t want to lose another good Chinese food place! Please stick around Mandarin Palace!

I stopped here on the way home for take out. I ordered egg rolls and sweet and sour chicken. Immediately after getting in the car I grabbed one of the three egg rolls. It was large and looked like it had been battered and fried. I took a bit and it appeared to be stuff with cabbage and a tasteless green sauce. Needless to say the other two will go in trash. The chicken actually is nicely cooked but the sweet and sour sauce has the look consistency and taste of orange jello. it is also inedible. All in all what a waste of money. Now I need to find something else to eat.

If I were in a small rural town & found a place that sells Chinese & American, this place serves the Chinese food I’d expect. Chinese food for Americans, no Asians ever seen eating here. Dirty table, lots of deferred maintenance, indifferent service & bland food. The best thing is a cheap lunch special that has lots of food. Place has full bar w/music on Thurs — probably what keeps them afloat. If you want Asian nearby, go up to BH Hwy from Jesuit westward & hit up Korean & Japanese in Beaverton.

CALLBEFOREGOING. We ate here months ago and it was alright. Loved their pot stickers. Tonight, on their Live Music Thursday night, we called to place an order for pick-up. It’s 10pm. Says their open until midnight. Said their kitchen was closed. Well. That sucks.

We had been warned about this place but I decided to try it anyhow. Considering that it’s right around the corner and I’ve driven by a million times I just had to see for myself. My daughter and I came for dinner and drinks. Something quick and simple. We decided to sit at the bar. The bartender was friendly and gave us helpful suggestions about what was good on the menu. She introduced us to the two guys sitting next to us, her ex husband and friend. The bar was interesting, the décor was Italian posters in frames and the way the TV’s were situated made it hard to watch from the bar. The food was alright. They had an interesting version of Mongolian beef, the beef was lightly breaded and deep fried. Tasted like chicken fried steak. The Kung Pow shrimp was fine. Good fried rice. Sadly we will not be returning. The bartenders ex husband ruined the evening. He was rude and disrespectful.

Ok, this is a 2.5 star rating. Four of us here, we all ordered combo plates, kinda strange all the food came out in less than five minutes… Kinda suspect. My ss pork was good, almond chicken was good, but the egg fu young and lo mein sucked. Both were cold, and yucky. Waitress wasn’t great either. If you look at my pics, you’ll see the gravy on the almond chicken and the foo young are identical… mustard yellow? Gross! A swing and a miss, but they can’t all be winners can they?

Got cussed out by a waitress for accidentally turning off a few lights on a power strip. Seriously? Walked out and she was still cussing me out? Will never be back and I’ve been here probably ten times this year easily.

the Kung pow chicken was ok, if bland, the egg rolls were cooked in oil that must have been months old, and the beef broccoli tasted old. We threw most of it away, and will NEVER go back.

We were a party of six: two adults and four twelve-year olds. Lunch on a Saturday afternoon was great. Service was very prompt and attentive. Hot tea and drinks came out right away and the food arrived within ten minutes of ordering. Good quality for a variety of dishes and was also very good. Not greasy, very tasty, and seasoned to order. The prices are very reasonable, even by Portland standards. Décor and ambiance are appealing and clean. Beautifully maintained salt water tropical fish aquarium just inside the front door indicates to me that the managers care. Parking is plentiful and right up front. I visited the men’s restroom and it was spotless. Five stars.

I am not sure what good Chinese food is, but we think this place probably isn’t it. We normally go during weekdays evenings when Moon is our server. The place is empty and not overwhelmed. Our food is exactly as we order it and we are normally pretty happy with our vegetable fried rice. However, if you go any night of the weekend when it is busier, the quality really goes down the tubes. The restaurant was obviously overwhelmed with having people there… Our tofu was tainted with meat, and my boyfriend(that is allergic to garlic) had fried rice loaded with the crap. It was a disaster that left us both very physically ill. We give this place two stars because when it’s chill with Moon working it’s a solid 4 star Chinese dive(shit, all we eat are veggies, tofu, and rice!); but when it’s a busy weekend you’re taking a big risk. Seriously wondering if we’ll ever come back after that level of offensiveness with the meat contamination.

Man. Reading these reviews is making me sad. Perhaps I have an iron stomach. Anyway, we’ve been going here since before our kids were born. They’re 8 and 4 now. We’ve always loved this place for the price and the speed of delivery. We’ve always gone with the pick-three-from-the-options menu and have always been happy. Sit down. Order. Food is there in less than 7 minutes. Never been sick, never had a bad meal(it’s ALWAYS been the same quality, which has been more than good for us), and always left with money in our wallets.

I’ve been here a good handful of times threw out the years. I was brought here by a friend! I can say this place does give you a generous amount of food for a really small price. The service is always fast! I’ve only once had to wait maybe 20 minutes before I got my food. I enjoy their offer of 3 or 4 entress for less than 9 bucks. I always get the crab puffs(which are my favorite), sweet & sour chicken w/sauce on the side(sometimes they drench it and it gets soft quick) and fried rice. I’ve tried the egg rolls, there not very good in my opinion. It comes with a hot sauce and a red sweet sauce which looks and taste like watered down ketchup. They do have specials for lunch time for about $ 7. They also have bar which includes kareoke some nights. Down side: The building is pretty old. There’s mold growing around the window next to the booths as well as the wood is lifting. They try to cover it up with duck tape. Some of the seats are ripped.
