Red Lion Hotel Portland Airport

For a park & fly, this hotel surprised me with their quality. I had stayed Ramada next door before. Red Lion is head and shoulders above Ramada. The rooms are clean and updated. The staff is polite and efficient. The shuttle driver was the best. He not only loaded our bags but walked us to the door and helped me find a wheelchair for my 80 year old mom. The lobby is great with a little fireplace. They sell small items and snacks at the front desk. I wish I had stayed here instead of Ramada on Christmas day. Our flight from Florida didn’t sell food. When we got to Ramada, all restaurants were closed so we starved all day and were too tired to drive around looking for 24 hour places. We went to bed hungry. This place includes hot made to order breakfast

Avoid this hotel at all cost. The front desk is young girls who act, when sseperated from there I phones as if you are a bother. The bar tender will single you out if you ask him for a HOT cup of coffee. I must say, the manager is kind and trying but working with employees who clearly hate their jobs… Yes they told me as much… in person! Sad sad… hotel. If you bring a pup be ready to be chastised if you do not pick up poop although there is not one doggie poo station in sight. I’ve in all my 50 years of travel experienced such a horrible travel hotel. These are very unhappy employees.

Stayed the night because I had to go to work early in the morning and didnt want to drive all the way home. I had a nice 2^nd floor room. The employees were very nice and were always smiling. The only complaint was when I tried to get on WIFI but couldnt figure out the password but that wasnt thier fault. Next time I need to stay the night in PDX I will be sure to book here again

Red Lion should protect its brand and maybe consider not lending its name to places like this. For the price, there was nothing horribly wrong with it, nor with the Red Lion I once stayed in on a trip through Missoula, MT, either, but they fall so far below the bar set by the Red Lion I’m accustomed to in Olympia, WA, that I wonder what a person who’d only seen this one would take away from the visit.
In Olympia, the premier king room is huge, the view is spectacular, the hotel has a breakfast buffet, and there are more toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, and body wash, along with two bars of soap). Also, they remember you’re a Hello Rewards member and give you a «Kind» bar on check-​in, you find a bottle of water waiting in the room, and they’ve got free newspapers in the lobby in the morning (the paper used to be at the door of the room but they changed that).
Here, the premier king room is half the size, there was no view, there was no on-​site food service (but there was a sports bar lounge within walking distance that served good food along with a restaurant that was never open when I tried it), the toiletries were only shampoo, lotion, and soap, I didn’t see any papers, and there were no discernible Hello Rewards perks. It did not feel like a hotel. It felt like a motel (and was priced accordingly, which was only fair.)
The service has been excellent at every Red Lion I’ve stayed in. The cleanliness and the quality of the beds, too. I heard a dog bark here several times, which was a complete first for me ANYwhere, but not a biggie. The furnishings are uniform from one town, and even state, to the next. I just personally feel like I’m giving myself a treat when I stay in the Olympia hotel and like I’m just spending an unspecial night in the ones that feel like motels.
One thing especially: Red Lion should NOT call something that looks like a closet, that is stocked with nothing other than bags of Cheetos and other junk food, a «gift shop.» It’s located just beside the front desk and it creates a really godawful impression after reading Unilocal reviews that always skew negative in the first place. I was relieved that the rest of my stay wasn’t as bad as that «gift shop» looked, and nowhere nearly as bad as the negative reviews set me up to expect, but the next time I’m looking for a treat it honestly would never cross my mind to stay here.
Rock steady wifi, though, and that’s what I needed.

No big complaints. The rooms were clean, and the décor nicer than some in the same price range; I paid $ 78/​night in November with AAA. There is no free breakfast, but there’s a decent restaurant on the hotel grounds. Not really walking distance to anything, either, but luckily I was there with a car. In summer there is an outdoor pool that looks nice. It is a big hotel, which meant lots of walking (take key for outdoor hallways), but I liked it enough to stay there again.

I flew into PDX around midnight and my next flight wasn’t until 6am. I tried booking my usual go to hotels but they did not answer. So I tried Red Lion out. The price was $ 89 so it was decent. I call Ed the night shift attendant he was very pleasant and accommodating. I was picked up by the shuttle driver and he was very pleasant as well he joked around and made whole waiting for the next flight more bearable. The same very shuttle driver took a few guest to IHOP and a young lady to her hotel the ramada since she took the red lion shuttle by mistake, but overall these two Red Lion staff did an amazing job. I will definitely come back and make sure I visit again!

Rooms are small but clean and decently appointed.
When I arrived at the airport and called the hotel to get the advertised shuttle at 7pm, they told me he was on lunch so I waited about 30 minutes to get picked up.
The «complimentary breakfast» was at a sketchy restaurant semi-​attached to the hotel. It was non-​buffet and when I asked the lone server what would be quick they said «nothing, I have 21 orders ahead of you»

Picked this hotel in a Southwest package. The price was fine, the room was decent, but the service sucked! Asked for a new iron (that did not leak) and some vanity light bulbs that were missing — NEVER got them. And they did NOT service the room after the first day! That is the first time I have had housekeeping miss my room — really?!!
They also mention a restaurant and sports bar on site — skip them and go somewhere else!
This place does not qualify for more than 2 stars.

This hotel is ghetto as fuck. The picture was not what the tiny room really looked like. They charged me 111 dollars a night. The service was just awful. I asked for an extra ice bucket because the refrigerator in the room was like 2 degrees colder than the room. The lady at yhe front desk told me no because people steal them… I had to wade through the ghetto ass hotel staff to get one and it was like pulling teeth. The room didn’t even have a fucking pen. I put my privacy placard up because i dont want to be robbed. The food. … omg, i walked into the «restaurant» and no one was there. When i got my food it was ragu with 3 measly meat balls. Them bitches charged be 19.99. For a plate of shit spaghetti. Naw, man. DON’T come here. Fuck this place.

Our room had a very odd chemical/​band aid smell to it. We killed a few bugs in the room. Housekeeping never cleaned our room during our stay. I told the front desk and they at least had fresh towels brought. Upon check out I again mentioned that the room had not been cleaned while we were gone and the desk staff said «Oh, sorry. Would you like to keep all the charges on your MasterCard?» Definitely not what I was expecting from something so basic as making sure housekeeping cleans your room. Price paid for the service received does not match up for this hotel.

Service was good, the staff was super friendly (Edmund I think his name was — very pleasant red headed chap worked the overnight shift). The room smelled like long stale cigarettes but it wasn’t overwhelming. Room was clean and they had a crib set up for our baby upon arrival as requested. We were on the second floor with no elevator which is no fun when you have a ton of baby gear but otherwise fine. Restaurant was supposed to open at 6am but was locked until around 6:30am when we asked Edmund to call and see what was going on. New staff over there didn’t have it together but was friendly once we got in. Overall kind of meh but the staff and price make up for the lack of amenities and issues.

I had a bad experience with this hotel. For the rate (~$ 95/​night on July 4^th weekend), it was just not worth it. I was there for 2 nights, and the room was not cleaned after the first. When I contacted the front desk, no one seemed to care. Instead they said the crew «forgot» (??) to clean the room. Finally they sent fresh towels and coffee, but did not bother to apologize.
I would not recommend staying here.

If I’m ever in the area again I would NOT stay here. The only reason to stay at this place is if you’re leaving on a flight the next day. The price is great, but you get what you pay for. Everything that happens in the hallway is heard in the room including when the door to the building slams shut. Tonight there was someone continually banging on their rooms door then leaving to go outside, then came back in, banged again, then repeated going outside again. Finally he was let in just to slam the door as hard as he could. I would’ve of called the front desk, but I had no idea what room it was and was not brave enough to find out. The room itself was nice looking visually at first, but then I started noticing sticky crap on the carpet that was also on the comforter, dental floss that was left behind the toilet, used shampoo bottle, and a clogged drain in the shower.

We stayed on the second floor of the «C» building and the room was nicely appointed but the hallway carpet had been sprayed with something that smelled like a mix of roach poison and cheap perfume. My wife developed a headache and if we hadn’t been so busy we would have switched hotels (or buildings).
Fortunately we were out most of the day minimizing exposure to whatever toxic concoction they were using… but upon our late return we discovered that our room had not been cleaned. No, we hadn’t left a «do not disturb» sign on the door. They just didn’t get around to cleaning our room. We called the front desk and had some clean towels delivered and concluded, «We’re never staying here again.»

Do not stay here. Yes, it is cheap but it’s not worth it. The pictures on
or Expedia are from when the place first opened. Nothing is nice. The pillows are hard as a rock. There was a train at 3 or 4 in the morning. There was also some loud dump truck or machinery happening early in the morning as well. Don’t stay here, it’s not worth it.

Want a nice quiet sleep? You won’t get it here. Walls are super thin, windows don’t keep any noise out and bed and tub squeak which has never happened before. The curtains don’t close all the way so our room had the streetlight shinning through all night. Had I known it was that bad, I would have booked somewhere else or just save the money and sleep in the car.

Due to the sudden booking in the area for Wizard-​World convention a year in advance, my friends and I had only managed to get a room somewhere close by. It was also within our price range. We stayed a night, and were only in the hotel for a total of 8 hours, which was when we were sleeping. The woman at the front desk let us check in early so our stuff wouldn’t be left in the car while in the convention center, so that was nice. The room itself was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the multiple mirrors were nice. Two of us were cosplaying, and we both needed a mirror.
My only complaint is that the room we had was facing a very large and bright outside light. The curtains we could move were thin, and did not to dim the light, and the big thick curtains were purely decorative and stapled to the ceiling. That was weird, but one of us had a hair clip, so we managed to clip the curtains closed.

Stayed here for work. Room 164. No wifi problems. Relatively fast wifi (21Mbps down, 2.8 up). Bathroom clean, no bedbugs. TV works, has good reception and all channels you’d want.
Smells like there have been smokers in this room in distant past (not a strong smell, but evident). Bed sheets are not totally white (looks like they need to bleach more often). Planes are noisy only between 8am and 10pm I noticed. When they are loud, they’re REALLY LOUD. AC is fairly loud too, but does let you regulate temperature in room well.
They do have an airport shuttle if you don’t have other transportation to/​from hotel.
When I checked in, I heard a hotel employee, middle-​aged gentleman with glasses, loudly haggling on the phone with a customer who had made a reservation through expedia. Employee was standing in corridor immediately next to front desk. Customer’s fault or not, terrible first impression for guests checking-​in. Also, I wasn’t told about any complimentary breakfast and so didn’t even attempt.

I was a bit apprehensive on staying here because there were a lot of bad reviews… A LOT.
But I’m here to debunk them. I read the hotel is dirty, there’s a weird smell, there are a ton of stairs to the second floor so forget it if you have luggage, it’s noisy, you have to be in the bathtub to close the bathroom door… so I was prepared for the worse.

Only 15 steps to get to the 2^nd floor (not the end of the world)
Was able to close the door while standing on the floor (I think the person who complained about this may be on the bigger side. in that case, walking to the 2^nd floor would be beneficial)
In summary, I think people were overacting. Reeeeelax this place is decent and the staff is amazing, sweet, helpful. I mean come on, there’s a fridge AND a microwave in the room. It has to be awesome!
Usually I don’t write reviews because I selfishly would want this place to have low reviews so less people would stay here and I would get a room for sure but I won’t be in the area for a while. So if you won this hotel from Hotwire or priceline. congratulations! You got lucky!

Not one of your better Red Lion’s that is for sure!
So where do I start, the check in was very nice and friendly, so first impressions of inside was good, outside it doesn’t look like a normal Red Lion, and after researching it appears it used to be a Howard Johnson inn.
We felt that the bed didn’t seem to be a Queen size, thought it was smaller then a normal Queen bed, and we were given a Handicap room– which had some big flaws if your not handicap, first the bathroom is the biggest issue, Whoever built the place clearly DID NOT use a level! Also the shower had no shower curtains which posed the following problem, since the room wasn’t level the water didn’t go in the drain like it should have! Instead it went to where the toilet is– so if you took a shower at night, and had to use the bathroom you were «walking on water» lol
The bedsheet also was a joke IMO, it ended up on the floor as it sucked, and thankfully we had brought two of our own blankets which we ended up using instead.
Overall, I would say don;t let this Red Lion give you a overall view of all Red Lions, as this one is the worst one we’ve been to!
