Ok this might not be the only place in PDX to get a great taco. BUT it was my first great taco spot I have found in this town that I loved.

I was part of Ben’s taco ride — and this was my favorite stop of our four locations. It was great to see the tortillas hecho a mano — right before you got your taco. There were no listed vegetarian options on the cart — but the ladies whipped up delicious and gourmet specials for the veggie-folks, tortillas filled with vegetables and fantastic sauces. And– yes — the pastor was mouth-melting amazing.(Asada, lengua, also very good.) Can’t wait to go back when I don’t already have 3 tacos in my belly.

I led the taco ride here, and they were very gracious as 20 cyclists descended on the tiny cart at once. I had made a preliminary sortie on my own the week before to check it out and warn them. Ok, handmade tortillas made right in front of you. Delicious lengua, asada is peppery and good as Don said, and the pastor! Oh my goodness. Anyone who had one was saying«wow! the pastor!» And the time I visited before they had aguas frescas: a homemade tamarindo that was utterly fantastic. And $ 1. And tacos $ 1. Total win. I might ride out for lunch just for it some times.

This place serves pretty good, relatively cheap($ 5) and simple burritos.

¿Tortillas hecho a mano? Sí! ¿Tacos con muchas carnes? Sí! ¿precios baratos? Sí sí sí! Ay dios mio! I found myself a new taco cart today. It sure is deep on 82nd, but damn if it’s not one of the better tacos I’ve had in quite some time. Taquería de Todo Poco is a little taco cart made from a trailer, and the two nice ladies inside serve up some super bomb(and insanely cheap) tacos on hand-made tortillas. Meat options include Pastor, asada, carnitas, and a few other options. Burritos? No. Just tacos. Simple. Tortilla(one, hand made, and about an inch or two larger than your standard taquería taco tortilla), meat, and optional cilantro, onion, and salsa(roja or verde). $ 1 each. Again… simple. Today was another instance in my life when I was able to turn an adventure into a pleasurable lunch experience. I saw this little cart parked alongside a convenience store as I was driving up 82nd, so I had to make a stop. The crudely hand-drawn signs lured me in with promises of(and I’ll draw it out for you): (Picture an A-frame sign) _______________ | TORTILLAS | | HECHO A MAN| | O | | | | — — — — — — — — | Brilliant. They’ve figured out text wrap but it shows a distinct lack of ability to plan ahead. There’s no way that this place could be the least bit pretentious. I roll up to the window and utilize my rudimentary knowledge of Spanish to order 4 tacos — 2 asada, 2 pastor. The true test. I grabbed them to «dine in», which consisted of a crappy black folding card table with 2 folding metal chairs, right next to the sidewalk about 3 feet from 82nd. The cars were whizzing by, the wind was blowing, and a couple of toothless WT folks wandered by looking quizzically at me, probably thinking«what the hell is this dude doing sitting at a place like this?» It was entertaining to say the least. The ambiance is, shall we say, lacking. I was quickly(but not too quickly) presented with 4 big tacos full of meat. Lots of beef, which was surprisingly not gristly and flavored with a very interesting(black pepper, maybe?) seasoning. I was thoroughly impressed. Some of the better/more flavorful asada I have enjoyed in this town. The pork on the carnitas tacos was plentiful, juicy, and tender, but was lacking in the flava department. Just plain pulled pork. But hey, that’s what salsa, cilantro, and onions are for, right? The tortillas themselves? Delicious! Overall, I was pretty damn impressed with my asada tacos, not super impressed(but not let down either) by my carnitas tacos, titillated by the tortillas, stoked on the salsa, and happy with the service. And the fact that I got a big plate full of tasty, not gristly food for $ 4? Priceless.
