Stellar fish tacos & lovely people. I’m sure it’s all amazing but as a pescaterian with a fish taco addiction, I have not explored the menu too much. Food is fresh & nicely done, also very affordable! Plus you get the Captured by Porches beer bus adjoining.

Hands down, the best tacos in Portland. The quesadillas and burritos are also great! The pastor taco is my favorite on the menu, and they will make you fresh jamaica drink while you wait! I bring my little dog when I come down here to get takeout. The lines and mob of people that is here sometimes can be a LOT to deal with… but, it’s worth it. $ 1.25-$ 1.50 per taco!

Great little food cart in the St John’s area. The Vela’s Burrito is fantastic and crazy cheap for how much food you get. My only complaint is the wait. It can take 15 – 20 minutes to get your order without a line. So, not a place to go for a quick bite to eat, but awesome for walking around Kruger’s, drinking local Captured by Porches beer or tasting local wines all in the same square. Picnic table seating with about half of it covered. Chimineas are often lit at night or when chilly.

This is probably my own fault, but I ordered a burger from a taco truck. Our friends described the burger at Velas to be «the best in Portland». Having had many a Portland burger, I was skeptical but eager to test it out. Also, being from San Diego, I already have the best Mexican food in the nation in ample supply everywhere I go around here. So I dove in and ordered their burger with avocado on it. After a 20 minute wait, I was starving and dove in. The burger itself is smaller and thin, and somewhat resembled the frozen 1⁄3 lb. patties from Costco. The avocado slid out of the burger immediately. The burger wasn’t bad. It was fine. But it wasn’t great. I’m not sure I’d even call it good. It was very average. About what you’d expect to be produced by a taco food cart. I should have known better. Would I come back here if I was in the neighborhood? Sure. But I’d stick to the Mexican food. There are certainly far, far better burgers than this in Portland.

Just a real solid taqueria. Fresh, friendly, tasty. 5 stars to balance the crazy 1 star cheese hater below.

Mad cheap($ 1.50 for a taco and like $ 5 for a burrito the size of a baby), ultra friendly family run taco joint! Ultra fresh ingredients, good flavors and spices and great salsas. In the same area as a really great beer bus too, so grab a taco and a tall one! Highly recommended, my roommates and I probably eat here about 10 times a week between us. PS: Fish tacos and the 3 meat breakfast burritos are a must.

Jeff V. & I can eat dinner here for $ 5! The burritos are so yummy, full of homemade fresh ingredients and are as big as my forearm is long and as wide as my hips(and they don’t lie) A very close treat to authentic mexican food you can get here in Portland. I love supporting the family that owns this food truck. This is one of my favorite spots in our hood, I love walking down to the lot eating a burrito, drinking a pint of beer from the beer bus or a glass of wine from St. John’s wine cellars and enjoying free live entertainment. Thurs-Sunday are the days to go and enjoy all of these activities and bring cash.

I love these people and they seriously have the best fish tacos in Portland! We went to the Krugers farm stand in St Johns for fun one Friday night and were completely taken by the friendly atmosphere, great beer(Captured by Porches), and delicious food(both Velos Taqueria and Che Café). We ended up having one of the best nights i’d had in a while! We sat on comfortable picnic benches while drinking great beer, listening to great music, meeting local st johns neighbors and eating amazing tacos. We are now regulars(like seriously, we are there most days– say hi!) While I want to keep this place small so it doest change and stays as amazing as it is now– I have to tell everyone… that this place is gold. Velos Taqueria has amazingly delicious fish tacos. Whatever they put in that tilapia is almost addicting. And every taco, burrito, or tamale I’ve had there is equally as amazing! BTW– ALLTHEIRTORTILLASAREMADEFRESH! BTWBTW– Order their tortilla chips… these are also made fresh and are so delicious! BTWBTWBTW– They make their own hot sauces!!! you like it spicy? they have it spicy!!!

Best fish tacos ever! Hand made tortillas and perfectly grilled tilapia keep me coming back again and again. Pair them with a beer from the Captured by Porches beer bus and you have an excellent meal on the cheap.

This place rocks! They make their own tortillas! I am in love with the Pastor tacos — love the home made pineapple salsa and slow cooked pork. Fish tacos are awesome too. The fish is fresh and grilled. This place takes me back to San Cristobol de la Casa or Puerto Vallarta. Did I mention that it is really cheap, too? And you can pair your tacos with a nice pint of Captured by Porches beer. What more could you ask for?

This great cart is in the lot with the Kruger open-air market and Captured By Porches brewery. They have pretty standard Mexican fare — tacos, burritos, tamales, as well as a selection of hamburgers. I haven’t tried the burgers, but I have had many of the Mex offerings and they are superb! If there is only one thing that I can recommend(and there are definitely more), it is the Memelas. I have never had or heard of these before, but WOW are they good. It’s a taco-sized flour tortillas, fried flat in oil, with a layer of beans in between, and topped with some more beans, spicy red sauce, and a sprinkling of cheese(queso fresco, I think). Everyone that I have talked to that’s tried these cannot praise them enough. The other tacos and burritos are also very good, and very fresh. It tastes like the tortillas(both corn taco size, and large flour burrito) are made by hand, but I can’t say for sure. I’ve also heard great things about their tamales, but haven’t had a chance to try them yet. There are a bunch of picnic tables around to eat at, and if its a bit too wet out, you can take your food on the Captured by Porches bus and eat it there. Also, when it’s chilly, there is usually some fire pits set up around the lot to warm up to
