Wichita Feed & Hardware

I really enjoy this place. I like walking on the old wooden floors, I find the staff are consistently available and really helpful, and I’ve yet to go there and find they didn’t have whatever I was looking for, from plumbing parts to cattle panels to canning jars to onion sets.
One time I decided to make a thing I could hang pots and pans and ladles and stuff from, to go over my kitchen sink area. I had a vague-​ish idea of what I wanted, so I just went over to Wichita F&H and started explaining my vision to the guy. 10 minutes and about 8 bucks later I had a 5′ length of copper tubing with caps for the ends, a couple of big eye hooks, and about 20 s-​hooks. I took it all home and installed it in about 15 minutes, and I’ve been super happy with it ever since! It was fun collaborating on how to make this thing.
Bottom line is: awesome small-​town feed and hardware store. Just like it should be. Love it. Oh and they *delivered* those cattle panels, too! That’s service.

I have been to Wichita F & H many times and have found the store and the employees alway very helpful. I would rate it as the best in selection of plumbing, electrical, gardening and general hardware products. if you are a regular client they will give you the run of the place and won’t hoover over your shoulder. I like that. If you look puzzled, seems to stand with a blank stare or ask for help they will quickly offer assistance. Sometimes you have an idea of what want or need but can’t figure how to get there. That is where they shine. They can give ideas of how to get there. They are a Mom and Pop place that know their products well unlike the big box stores. Wichita reminds of my childhood when I used to go with my dad (local building contractor) to such a store in our home town. That store was terrific and always a constant source of surprise and delight.

I love this place and all the folks who work there. I can’t wait till I need something so I can go and get expert assistance. They are always ready and willing with great ideas in case I am a little short on brains. I get feed for my chickens and am thrilled to find bird seed with out milo, the dreaded seed that no one will eat except the rats. Hey, if you love big hardware stores then go to Home Depot, me, I’ll take Wichita Hardware any day of the week.

Excellent experiences here, even as a first-​time visitor.
They’re one of the few local stores which carry decent Scythe parts/​materials as well. Which means one less power tool on our urban farm.

Fast friendly and honest and a place that you can rent live traps reasonably priced. They seem to have a little bit of everything here. This winter my stock water tank heater went out and this was the only place that had them in stock and for $ 20 less so well worth the trip

I’m new to the area and found everyone in the store very helpful and willing to answer my questions. I didn’t even have to move my car to get my straw. Thank you so much!

Best hardware store around. I don’t understand some of the negative reviews on here. They know everything they sell and will custom cut anything for you. No waiting in line at customer service or help light station. They carry some of the really hard to find parts big box stores fail to carry. Yes the prices are a little higher and Tony is a little cantankerous but these are people that have been in the trade for years and know their products inside out. Try getting the same service at Lowes or the depot. Usually I have to explain what the item is to a clerk knows the item only by it’s UPC code. It’s your choice of course, and IMHO.

Is you want help in 1 min and be back in your car driving away with what you need in 5 min to start/​finish your project, this is the place. I’m surprised to see peoples poor review.
Set expectations, this is not a big box store for you to shop for 2 hrs and to find a paint brush for $ 0.89 less. You pay a little more, often the same, but what you get is service and speed.
Sure they don’t sell some things like wood, but you learn what they carry and don’t and you know when to go. Plus what’s wrong with supporting your neighborhood business.

My review of this place is spot on with everyone else.
In one sentence, here is how I feel about this place:
«Don’t go here unless you absolutely need to»
The fact of the matter, is that they do have a lot of the harder-​to-​find parts that you can’t find anywhere else, besides online. Because of this reason, its probably what keeps them afloat, that and they’re location probably doesn’t cost that much.
If you need something asap and can’t wait for online shipping, then sure, make your way over there. But don’t go in expecting any help, know what you need, get in and get out.
I’ve had my share with this place, and its always the same. A couple of late 40 – 50 year old guys guys standing behind the counter cracking sex jokes. They see you come, and either ignore you or run and hide. If you do get the chance to actually talk to someone, they’ll be brief, rude and then book it.
My most memorable experience from this place is paying for a few things, and having the guy ask me «Why aren’t you at work?» with the most serious, angry face I’ve ever seen from a person who just got my money.
Seriously, if you can, just buy online and wait a few days for shipping. Its worth far more than dealing with this headache of a place. If you can’t wait? well good luck to you.

So nice and helpful. They had what I needed, and they even «loaned» me a tool for no charge. No charge, having never seen me before in their entire life. Maybe this is how Oregon operates and i am just not used to it, but WOW.

This place does not deserve your business. The owner (some old schmuck named Tony) is extremely rude. I had to pry information out of him about a product. I had to follow him around the store almost begging him to stop what he suddenly «needed» to do, and help me. When he finally said something, it was just a foul-​toned, «We don’t have any of that». Luckily another employee heard what I asked (while he was helping someone else, no less) and told me that they do indeed have it, and he’d be right back with what I needed.
If I want to be ignored at a hardware store, I’ll go to some place like Depot, but when I feel a hankerin’ for being treated like I’m worthless, I’ll go here. Not really, I’ll never be back to this hole.
Also I’m pretty sure that the five-​star ratings are from the only two people in the proprietor’s family who are semi-​computer literate.

I’m a slight fan of this traditional hardware store. The reason is that I’ve lived in the area for quite a long time and my family has known the owners for a long time as well. Also I’m a fan of the «mom and pop» store no matter what.
The draw back is this, if you are not someone that they recognize you really don’t get very good service. That is very unfortunate, since the traditional «mom and pop» model is built on that foundation and is supposed to be what is better than the big box stores. I would give it better stars if they would just start to be friendly. I get a lot of help only when I go there with my Grandfather. But, If I go in by myself, forget it. I might as well have gone to the Orange Box and read the information online. I’d get it cheaper and with less glares.

A fantastic place… and super nice people… and I do mean all of the people. My husband and I both agreed they had just about everything and were nice. I doubt we exactly vote like many of them (I saw some of their bumper stickers)…but that did not get in the way of anything.
Excellent parking, easy to get to… and with a business next door? that had rocks, slabs, whatever else they had (I walked that, too).

The only thing I did not see was lumber and plants.
I am still digesting what I saw there today. I am a HUGE fan… but, then again I used to work at one of the largest hardware stores and this is far better. It is like an Ace Hardware mixed with a feed and seed on steroids.

Every time I go in here I immediately get the stink eye from the staff whilst I peruse their squirrel feeders and Burpee seed selection. I don’t know if it is because I drive a tiny, Japanese car (scandal!) or the fact I’m a pierced woman wearing black and keeping chickens, but the looks of wariness while they ring up my bags of layer feed sure do get tiring.
Wichita has a lot going on — inventory wise. They have a fine selection of tools and hardware which have saved me from numerous home-​improvement related meltdowns. They sell things like lengths of chain, poultry feeders and bat houses – all of the usuals you’d expect from a feed store located in Clackamas county.
However, with Naomi’s Organic just opening a little further away from me, I’ve made the realization I no longer need their services for my chicken feed and straw. Tools, fine. But Naomi’s is my top choice for all of my feed n’ seed desires, and best of all? No stink eye!

This place is insane. You can get anything here. Just perusing the first aisle when I walked in the door I saw dog food, bird food, squirrel food, hamster food, squirrel feeders, bird feeders, dog treats, funnels and dry rub for every kind of meat, fish and fowl known. Is that a hint, having the meat rub next to the dog treats? This place is that back of the woods country store that that has everything under one roof. It reminds me of Dan and Whit’s in Vermont. We got 50 lbs of alfalfa pellets, which for some unknown reason the husband intends to use as lawn fertilizer, for 10.50. The lady running the register is one of those gruff, not unkind but certainly not friendly people, a true character. The guy who loaded the alfalfa into our car was very nice. This is just one of those places that you go to in order to be awed by the sheer volume of crap they have shoved into the store, and maybe you’ll find something you need.
