Shrimp teriyaki is the best! Tried it for lunch on a suggestion, was apprehensive as I’m really not a sushi person. Didn’t realize there were so many other options available. The lunch special is a go to favorite. I wish they offered a scallop teriyaki special as well.

The sushi was excellent! I got a specialty roll and it was so fresh! The staff were very attentive and got the food out in a timely manner. The restaurant is clean and the décor is peaceful I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others!

I love Bonsai.(if this is one next to the mall) This bonsai is so good ! I always get waited on in a friendly manner. I love the plum wine with my maki combo. the maki combo is such a good deal! It comes with a soup and a salad, and 3 rolls! — an ell roll, california roll and a spicy tuna roll(i believe) this could be the spicy maki combo. either way its fantastic. I have never been disappointed with this place.

Disappointed that we didn’t get to eat here. We arrived at 9:04 pm on Sunday. The waitress who was seating us informed us that they close at 9:30. One of our party inquired as to what that means, asking so can we eat? The server said«yes but eat fast.» We promptly walked out. If you don’t want any more business lock the door. They lost out on our party of four’s $ 80+ bill. Not interested in trying it again.

I was excited to check this place out because of the good reviews. I came for lunch but decided against any of the specials because their special rolls sounded so good, but ultimately I was disappointed. The upsides is that the restaurant was clean, nicely decorated, and the service was quite good. The only downside in ambiance was that it was really cold(I love cranking the AC but that was too much for me and I’m never cold). The real disappointment for me were the sushi rolls. I ordered 3 of the special rolls(which sounded and looked great on the menu) and they just were not great. I think the fish was good, but something about the rolls were just off — I think it was the proportions and how they were rolled. The end result was almost too big to comfortably fit in your mouth. They also just weren’t «dressed» right. There was one(not very good, very one note) sauce on the plate and all 3 rolls came on top of it. There were no sauces on the rolls themselves and the sauce on that plate wasn’t right, so they tasted… bland. The menu pictures looked WAY more appetizing than what I was actually served. To be fair, the food wasn’t horrible, but when I pay $ 40 for 3 rolls, I’m expecting to leave in a state of sushi euphoria and that definitely wasn’t the case. And not for nothing, but when you serve a bunch of lunch specials for $ 7-$ 14 that are served with soup and salad, when a customer orders $ 40 worth of sushi at lunch, the least you can do is offer some free soup or salad. Bottom line, if you order a lunch special or happy hour special this place very well may be worth it, but if you’re just ordering special rolls, this place is way overpriced and the quality is lacking. I’ve had much better special rolls just down the street at Enso or Kodomo.

This place is very similar to the other location, food is great and the staff are excellent — this size if a resterant is perfect when compared to the other location, and the sushi here is killer

I was pleasantly surprised; I did not expect a little stripmall place to have such good sushi. I stopped by for lunch and ordered the chef’s special sushi plate. For $ 13 it was way bigger than I thought it was going to be and very fresh, high quality fish. I will definitely be back.

My mother and I ate here before seeing a movie. The waitresses weren’t the friendliest but the service was very quick. I like that they have a Japanese menu and a Thai menu. My mother is not a fan of sushi or Japanese food, so the Thai option was perfect for her. I ordered a dinner bento box. It came with miso soup, green salad, a California roll, some sort of cooked roll with a sweet & spicy sauce(delicious), and two entrees of my choice. I got the salmon avocado roll and chicken teriyaki. They gave me a lot! And it was only $ 15.95 which I think is a good price. The setting and interior design is gorgeous. So far, it’s just as good as the sushi spots in the city. I will definitely be coming back.

My all time favorite sushi place! I’ve been coming here for years, and their consistently great. Their happy hour prices are such a good deal, and they have have amazing specialty rolls. Their crunchy shrimp roll, and baked snow crab roll are out of this world. Both under $ 8 each, and the baked snow crab roll is huge, and filling. Really relaxing atmosphere with led lights. If you’re craving sushi you must try this place out!

Not sure what to say because I’m pretty disappointed today. I went there for happy hour, thinking it ended at 6(same time as Bonsai I). When I waited a minute then a waitress I have never seen before welcomed me. I asked her for the happy hour take out menu ad she informed me it ended at 5:30. I pulled out my phone and when I looked at the clock I watched it change from 5:30 to 5:31. I showed her the phone and said, really? I just missed it? She said yes and handed me the dinner menu. I was pretty surprised she wouldn’t make an exception, but I guess I was technically one min late. Don’t get me wrong, I love Bonsai. I love Bonsai 1 more than Bonsai 2, but theybhave always need kind to me. I come here often and I live an hour away. I was in the area and wanted to grab take out for my husband and I. The waitress was apologetic and said that the other Bonsai had happy hour until 6pm. I was nice about it but I said I would probably go there. I expected her to say stay. They would do it. I mean, it was only 1 min and, if we see going to split hairs, I had been standing there for about a minute. I was frustrated and really wanted the happy hour special so I drove an extra 15 minutes up route 9. Not because I am cheap, but it was the principal of it all. I am a loyal customer Bonsai since the opened over 5 years ago and then, Bonsai II. We want here whenever we are in town or passing through. I’m not sure if they deserve 2 stars. I’m just frustrated. I may edit this later when I chill out, but I’m pretty annoyed at the waitress. I usually love it there but it glad I went to bonsai 1. I’ve been there a few min after the lunch special ended and they offered to give it to us(I didn’t ask). Bonsai 1 is def more flexible. I’m sure Bonsai 2 would have been if I saw the waitress that is super nice, funny and knows me. Oh well.

On our 3rd visit to the fine Japanese restaurant we opted for the Sushi Sashimi combo for two. The quality and freshness of the beautifully prepared dish was outstanding. Our server made the visit even more enjoyable with her pleasant demeanor, outgoing personality and plethora of information on the many dishes available from their extensive menu. Definitely worth the trip from anywhere. We will of course be returning. ~Amelga M. & M. King

This was my fist time eating at a sushi bar. My sister, a sushi pro, recommended we go and took me along for the ride. I was blown away. The dumplings are the best I’ve ever had. You’re missing out if you don’t try them! All the wait staff were friendly and the service was really fast. The atmosphere was great and loved the challenge of only getting chop-sticks to use. Happy hour seems like the right time to come here. It’s safe to say we’ll be coming back again, Bonsai has ignited a new love. And that love is sushi.

Since me and my boyfriend decided to catch a movie we had time to grab a bite to eat. Bonsai was conveniently located there in the shopping center so that was cool. We we’re greeted with smiles when entering and was seated right away. I ordered spicy tuna rolls, shumai and a few other rolls. Boyfriend ordered shrimp pad Thai which he finished. Overall, a nice cozy place with good food and great location.

Horrible past experiences including the last one I just had. The food at bonsai is the best sushi I have ever had, saying this the waitresses are rude and unhappy. They do not have any manners and if you have a question about a menu item they will usually give an attitude in return. This being said, I do not tip well if I am not treated well and I think that is fair. Today I did not look at the bill before getting my card swiped and they put an automatic tip on my card without my knowing. I did not tip on top of this. When I left, I got chased out by the waitress asking where the tip was. I was very unhappy with this experience and do not plan on going back despite the awesome food.

From the very simple décor to the amazing fresh seafood. My family enjoyed the miso soup that came with our bento boxes. Then we had our sunset boulevard roll. Amazing display of fresh seafood. I’m very happy we found this place thru fellow Unilocalers.

I no longer live in town; but come here when I visit my family. The sushi is fresh; properly handled and served. Great variety and reasonably priced. The sashimi and rolls are of ample size. Some places skimp; not here. Service is good and friendly.
