We ate on the deck overlooking the Hudson River, setting the stage for a lovely meal. The hostess offered us a tasting of their freshly made soups and the crab and mushroom chowder was excellent. Any rest=restaurant that serves a nice portion of fruit or veggies gets extra points in my book because I do not feel a meal is complete without it. The ripe and delicious fruit that came with my lobster roll complimented the delicate flavors perfectly. Not too much mayo, not too much bun, plenty of lobster, loved it. I also tasted my husbands lobster club and it was more of a «man’s» dish. I felt the bacon overpowered the delicate flavor of the lobster but, my husband enjoyed it thoroughly. The service was excellent and we were seated right away. Lunch was a perfect time to visit Capt’n Cliffy!

Came here a couple of months ago for lunch on a really nice fall day during the work week. Our server was amiable, but clearly stressed. Perhaps they were short staffed by no fault of their own. Anyway, we ordered one of their awesome chowders to share as a starter. We also ordered our beverages and meals at the same time. The beverages arrived in a timely manner and then the main courses finally arrived after quite a long while. When that happened, we asked our server«What happened to the chowder?» She immediately drew this blank, bewildered look across her face and said«Chowder? Um, you ordered one? You never got it?» And then she apologized, still looking very confused and said she would try to find out what happened. She appeared to be very flustered, but still doing a fairly good job of holding it together, to her credit. We then told her to «…just forget it now that we’ve got our main entrees.» She again apologized and insisted that she would find out what happened to our soup. She came out about 10 minutes later with our chowder in a «to go» cup and asked us if we wanted it. We reluctantly said that«Yes, we can take it to go.» She apologized for a third time and said that she had«put in the order but that the chowder got left sitting up on the counter for a while in the wrong spot.» Like that was supposed to make us feel good about what happened? You shouldn’t leave seafood sitting out at room temperature like that! To make matters worse, she did NOTCOMP us for the chowder — they had the nerve to CHARGE us for it!!! And it was in a SMALL container; certainly much smaller than what we had ordered. IT looked to be in a vessel no larger than 6 oz., yet we had ordered a bowl sized portion. Super lame.

Chowder, chowda, chouder and a parking lot. If you are guessing this place has good clam chowder, you are a freaking genius! They have other food as well, non-chowders I believe. Who’s Captain Cliffy?

River Station has wonderful views, great food and friendly staff. I LOVE Gabriella — she’s my favorite waitress =). They always have fun stuff going on there too — lobster fest, live music, seasonal-themed parties, drink specials. It’s a place I have been going for almost 20 years and I’m never disappointed. They even have a small room you can use for meetings with a projector screen. Kevin and Stacey take great care of their customers. Follow them on Twitter for updates on specials, drink specials and updates. @RvrStationrest

I stopped at Captn Cliffy’s with my 3 girlfriends for lunch after a long hike from the Walk across the Hudson Footbridge to the trail loop that brings you back around to the beginning again. Even before we were seated, we were offered some samples of several delicious chowders they were offering that day. A nice touch! We were brought upstairs to a spacious room that overlooked a beautiful view of the Hudson. Our waitress was super friendly and accomodating, and soon we were digging into our lunches. Mine was a pick off the special Octoberfest menu. I had a delicious bratwurst and warm potato salad, and a tasty glass of Riesling. My friends all seemed to be happy with their selections as well. For desert we shared a banana cheese cake that was truly decadent, and a warm apple pastry concoction with ice cream. All in all, a great lunch, and when the bill came, it was less than I usually spend for two people! I highly recommend Capt’n Cliffy’s!
