When the father owned this place it was stellar. They used to put big soft onions and green peppers on the pizza if you asked for peppers… no other place did that and it was scrumptious. I ordered a pizza from here last week and it was not very good. Not much cheese on it… had 2 toppings and they were raw, not cooked… not appetizing at all. Ordered the house salad, which again, used to be soo good with plenty of homemade house dressing… now they give you about a thimble full … the vegs they put on the salad are not as good but glad to see they still do that. I wish the son put as much effort and care into the place as his father did.

I had the Meatball Hero and the Pasta Fagioli. The soup was excellent as always however the meatballs in the hero could have been a tad bit hotter. The service is hit or miss in the restaurant place I’ve come to notice however with the addition of the comedy club and new menu I hope this brings this place back to how good it was a few years ago.

I’m not crazy about Italian food. I find that all pasta tastes pretty much the same. I was impressed with Umberto’s though. The veal parm was quite good and the red sauce was very tasty. The rolls are worth the price of admission. We came to see a comedy show and the $ 40 three-course dinner and show was a steal. I’m just not a fan of the restaurant’s name. How are Umberto and Mamma related and why must both their names be on the restaurant? Hmmm…

My family has been getting pizza here for years — even still the food here is average, the inside is very boring and it’s moderately expensive even if you just want pizza. I’d much rather go to Giacomo’s. The staff however are nice and so is the delivery people.

Staff was friendly and polite enough but the food and cocktail menus look like they haven’t changed since the 80’s. Unimaginative and executed to minimum standards. Our pizza had canned sliced mushrooms on it(you know those gray little slimy things) and there was a bunch of moisture under the crust so it just got soggy after the first slice. My pasta was basic and not bad. There’s no excuse for an Italian restaurant not to make their own pasta though. This was just dried/boxed pasta boiled up with a decent sauce tossed over it. Cooks are kind of lazy and didn’t thoroughly drain the pasta though so you end up with watered down sauce towards the bottom. It’s really not much more effort to make truly excellent food. It’s a shame the standards are a bit low here and in general the entire geographic area. I’ve yet to have anything nearby Vassar College that was actually memorable. I’ve got half of a left-over pizza in the fridge if anyone is hungry…

I find it interesting that the reviews for this place are all over the place. I stopped i while walking past to get out of the rain. Had been past it a thousand times and thought it was an expensive fancy place. It is nice and the prices were really good. Got a sampler of three burgers(chicken, meatball, traditional cheeseburger) that included sweet potato fries for $ 8. Any one would have been a big appetizer I brought the other two home. Service at bar was good. Food was real good. The restaurant appeared to be very clean.

I have been to this restaurant a few times for regular dinners, which were okay. The review i’m writing is based on my most recent experience. Having procrastinated to make reservations for Mother’s Day brunch at another familiar and excellent restaurant and therefore finding that restaurant booked, I discovered Umberto’s had a brunch buffet for $ 13.95 and made reservations there. I made the mistake of assuming the Mother’s Day brunch was the same price since the web site mentioned the buffet for Mother’s Day without a price listed. Well, I was quite surprised to see the check after the horrible food experience. Over $ 23 per person for a lackluster buffet. Most every buffet tray contained what looked like stale and leftover scraps of someone’s unfinished meal. My family and I, all Italians, were disappointed in the selection and quality of the food as well as the poor service by the waitress, who never asked if we would like refills on our beverages. The fabric on the seats were stained, and they must use those for parties. I’d never want a party there! I will never be going back there for brunch if I even go back at all! What an awful experience! I was so embarrassed that I had chosen that place to celebrate my mother’s and sister’s Mother’s Day!

Does not even deserve one star! To begin, service so slow & infrequent it was virtually non-existent, Calamari appetizer was overlooked and cold. My shrimp scampi was swimming in a liquid which had no scampi flavor, was cold, so cold the butter was coagulating on top! My partners shrimp marinara was tasteless, the sauce tasted as if it a can of common tomato sauce had been opened and poured on it. Umbertos is OFF the list!

From the outside, you would never guess that this was actually a pretty nice restaurant. My girlfriend and i split the bruschetta, which was really good, and my suggestion for the entrée: Go with the Tortellini Alfredo, go on… Its ok you can thank me later. my girlfriend got the Spaghetti with vodka sauce with a side of meatballs. Both satisfactory. Meatballs could have used a little more flavor. But no complaints really other than that. Also the Lava cake was a good end to a good meal

Great place to watch football or the fight. They have specials for both the NFL and UFC. Food is pretty good typical Italian menu. Check out the desserts. House made chipwich is a must try.

We were so happy to finds this gem of an Italian restaurant. Unilocal reviews were 100% accurate. It is very clean, somewhat outdated décor, expansive menu, very friendly staff. Our waitress was Lauren she was superior in every way. The food was delicious, all seafood was very fresh. Two concerns: Martinis had too much water in them from melting ice, this is a sign of an inexperienced bartender, and the caprese salad was served oddly, not the usual slices of tomato and slices of mozz over the tomato with fresh basil and there was no balsamic. Otherwise this is a restaurant fully deserving of 4 plus stars for great food and excellent/attentive service.

Normally excellent. Today not so much. I got spaghetti with meat sauce to go. I asked for a couple of little cups of cheese with it and even asked when it was brought out if the cheese was in the bag. The bag was folded closed with second bag balanced on top, checking would have been a task. Well I got to my destination and the sauce had leaked all over, they gave me half a cup of cheese not even 1 full let alone two I asked for, and no plastic ware !! 2 rolls yum but no butter. The worst part is the no plastic ware… I had to smell my food for a hour unable to eat it. When I did eat it was Luke warm by then. They are not cheap and normally i have eaten in restaurant or gotten sandwich or pizza to go. Very disappointed I spent almost $ 18 on this… if I wanted to wait an hour to eat I could have made it when I got home not gotten it from them. I give 3 stars since in restaurant has always been good. but check to go orders before you leave.

This building is an amalgam of multiple businesses that appear to have come and gone over the years. This is about the restaurant, and the bar/lounge area in particular. The outside of the place looks very old and worn out, but the inside is almost entirely new and completely spotless. The other half and I were invited for trivia night on a Mon in the bar area, but there weren’t enough people, so they nixed the trivia. The food was surprisingly good, not many places make a lasagna I enjoy; and the service was polite and attentive. I might eat here again if I happen to be in the area, its a solid spot.

I realiez that the reviews of this place are all over the map, and I can only talk about my one experience with this place. Passing through Poughkeepsie, I had some food delivered to my hotel from this place. I liked the extensiveness of their menu and ordered a tiny /personal pizza, salad, and a side of green beans(!). It took a very long time for the food to arrive(arrived at literally the last minute of the expected delivery window, but that could be due to GrubHub and not the restaurant), but what arrived was top-notch. My pizza had excellent ingredients. My crust was a little soggy, but, I had delivery, so, you gotta expect some loss of quality in a thin crust. The cheese was great, and the basil was julienned only moments before the pizza was sent on its way. The green beans portion was generous and tasty — and nice addition to an otherwise typical meal. And the salad was a bit out of this world — fresh, large, nice quality ingredients. And nary a piece of borderline lettuce that most places would toss into a salad — especially a salad being delivered to a hotel, where they know that person is probably never going to be in the area to be a repeat customer. I was impressed. Would order from here again.

Okay now… seriously, all these great reviews? They are either fake or people have no idea what Italian food should be. «Food out of this world.» «Good high end Italian buffet.» «I’d go back for seconds.» Say whatttttttttt? I died of laughter reading those reviews. Again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but G’damn…seriously? Sunday Brunch Buffet? Bad. When I say bad, it was bland, flavorless and probably canned. Nothing tasted fresh. It tasted microwaved. I left with my stomach rumbling. The best thing I ate was the cake my family brought. Anyway, the best part of the day? The bar. It’s nice, modern and TV had the Knick game on. Can’t complain about that. Other than that… a damn shame and a waste of a day. Makes sense on a Sunday afternoon the restaurant was empty. People of Poughkeepsie, if you think this is good, you need to venture outside of the«boonies.» Sorry guys.
