We walked in after 7 and the bar was dead. There were a few people at the bar. We sat down and ordered a couple of beers, but the first few choices were not available. We were told the«owners» were out buying liquor for the night. Also, the music was off. Not typical for an Irish pub. After we ordered our app and were eating there was a loud Hispanic woman who came in and started yelling. one of the obscenities was a Spanish curse word. I guess they don’t realize Caucasian people do speak Spanish too. They didn’t let us know they were going to be setting up for a private event at our arrival. Normally you close for these types of things. I guess they are hard up for the cash. They set up all the tables around us with table cloths and fake flowers in a hurry for«Dayana’s» birthday. Our entrees took forever to come out after our appetizer. I could tell the food we had ordered was previously frozen. It tasted absolutely horrible. When we went to check out we were told they wouldn’t take our gift certificate for Finnegan’s. The bar at this address is called«Finnegan’s» it says it on the sign outside It says it on our receipt. Their excuse was they had posted a sign on the door. There wasn’t a sign on the door they wouldn’t accept the gift certificate. They also said they had already had permission to change their name and were going to be doing so in a couple of months. Our gift certificate expires in July and we bought 2. Changing the bars name three times isn’t going to make it successful. Hispanic people running an Irish pub? No wonder they are failing.

The kind of place where everyone feels at home. This is a very friendly local neighborhood Sports Bar, it’s a great place to watch a Red Sox baseball game in the spring or summer or Patriots football game come fall. Beer is always ice cold & are the best prices in town.

I have gone here for years. I worked as a shot girl about 9 years ago here. I never expect a fancy Irish pub but when you follow the owners on Instagram and see them slapping a girls ass with their bar sticker it’s disgusting. The service has never been great with a few exceptions. The food is normally slow to almost missing a game or show. Yes I have had some OK times here but the negative outweigh the positive for sure. I would actually not recommend this to a friend.

I can think of one time only in recent history when my husband and I have gotten up and walked out of an establishment after looking at the menu. This is the place folks. EMPTY on a Sunday afternoon. Even though we were the only ones in the place, we sat and sat without service. We finally had to holler to get someone to come over. We asked what the soup of the day was and after having to go to the kitchen to ask, our server told us that there was no soup. We asked about another item only to be told they were out of that as well. Yeah, staying here really didn’t seem like much of an option after that.

RUN dont walk away from this place! We arrived at 5 pm on a Sunday night. Sat at the bar. The menu was a 8×10 piece of paper one side had prices one side did not. They came to take our order… ok sorry we don’t have corned beef, bacon or pizza shells. we only have the burgers right now. THATWASITJUSTBURGERS and i don’t eat beef! I’m in the food business I’m telling you there is NO reason for this what so ever. I can see running out of one thing or another but not the whole menu and be left with only one item! Please tell me you are kidding! We left and went next door to Providence Coal Fired glad we did it was EXCELLENT!

This is the first time I have ever given a one star and I would not give it that if there was an option! I went into this place with a few friends for a drink Friday night. The service was the worst I have had the pleasure to experience in some years! I did not eat the food so I am not basing this review on that. We sat down and ordered drinks. I asked for a list of cocktails — they didn’t have one. Okay, what do you have as a sweeter cocktail? The server had no idea nor offered suggestions. The other three guest with me ordered drinks. Only two drinks came back. I will sum this up. the beer was not what was ordered … the cocktail that I ordered was not correct and my other friend asked three times for her drink which never arrived(gin and tonic) … with that we asked to speak with a manager … he took the two drinks off(the one that never came to the table and the drink which was brought to us but not ordered) we didn’t drink the beer because it was not right and tasted moldy everyone at the table agreed it was horrible … The beer was left on the table full minus four tiny sips. the manager started to argue with me regarding the beer and its quality … how the lines are clean and that it was the correct order … we still had to pay for it … the service & manager were unacceptable and extremely unprofessional in this industry. I wasn’t looking for anything free just what was fair … I don’t find it fair that out of four people one person got the correct drink and we were charged for two! Plus, any manager arguing with a guest should not be in that position!

Just had lunch with wife. Pizza and salad. The pizza was very good, thin crust, with bacon, clams and multiple cheeses — and the prices are very reasonable. Will definitely return.

I have now eaten at Celtic Lounge three times in the past as many weeks… It is a great discovery as I a part of the Providence Theater crowd … a mid baby boomer… that said I tasted the ‘Angry Russian’ a six inch high hamburger stuffed with oozing cheeses, corned beef and other culinary delicacies… with this sauce on the side they call ‘boom boom’ sauce… it was incredible… my theater partner got the new pizza with fresh clams, pesto and fresh mozzarella… to die for… after theater at Celtic Lounge is now part of the routine… the Marini’s are stellar and service as well… a must try in Providence… the menu next door for the same type of pizza was twice the price… I cannot imagine it tasting any more fantastic with thin crust and toasted to perfection… Woo Hoo

Didn’t get to try the food or drinks… Apparently, Friday night is «college night» and even if you are over 21 with valid ID they don’t let you in unless you have an actual college ID.(This was 9pm not 11 or 12!) Seems silly to turn away, three, well dressed, thirty something’s looking to spend money and have a good time … The guy at the door was nice enough about it and all… but I think it’s ridiculous. The next time I want apps and drinks with friends in providence, I will go anywhere BUT here!

Went here to watch a football game on a Sunday afternoon. I was very surprised that the place was nearly empty for the three hours we were there. At one point the bar was full but the tables were empty. It was a great place to watch the game with decently-priced beers($ 5 a beer) and high quality TVs, but I was disappointed at the lack of a vibe. The beer selection was decent, but I was extremely disappointed when I was told that the bar was out of Smithwicks. We ordered onion rings, which were pretty standard but nothing to write home about. The menu looks pretty good and I think we will go back and try the Jameson steak tips sometime, but my experience to date has just been«meh.»

Used to love Finnegan’s Wake when it first opened, come Downcity to grab a couple of beers and inexpensive chow(they used to have $.10 wings and $.25 shrimp). Within the last year, they did a large renovation to the dining and bar area and made changes to their menu. My last visit prior to a PBruins game I had a decent burger. While Murphy’s and Trinity Brewhouse(closer to the Dunk) were wall to wall people, I walked right in and sat down and ordered at the bar. There were plenty of tables open. Nice beer selection as well. I will be back again.

The food here has always been good, but I can’t say too much for the new renovated look(I guess the name was changed from Finnegan’s Wake of which I had always known it to be). The woodwork and the floor is great but it really needs to be a dark wood like mahogany(or at least dark stained). The bleached woodwork and bleached flooring make this place lose all of it’s traditional real Irish character(as you can see in the pictures). The bar is pushed up against the wall making the place just a square room, and now it’s just like any other restaurant. Don’t get me wrong — it is nicely redone and in great condition. It just doesn’t seem like an Irish pub anymore but something more generic. I also did not check the bathrooms though. I don’t mind the place, however I probably will no longer go here when thinking of going to an Irish pub for a bite to eat. Food is pretty good, but I just no longer like the atmosphere. I guess the college students may like it better, but it’s not traditionally Irish anymore.

This is the old Finnegans Wake. The food was great and so was the beer selection. They have done a renovation of the entire place except the bathrooms.

This place had a nice atmosphere, was a bit loud and crowded when we arrived, but decent, reasonably priced place for a drink. Didn’t try any of the items on the menu, but it is extensive. Our server was fun.

HORRIBLE Service. Ordered the app. Platter(the works)…waitress didn’t even know what it was. We received a sad plate of 2 onion rings, 2 mozzarella sticks, 2 potato skins, and 2 chicken fingers. For 15 dollars I’d expect more. THEN a patron with a cane and a back pack sat down next to us & ordered a beer… The obnoxious cook/owner i believe, made his way over to the patron and proceeded to talk down to him assuming he was too low class for the resturant. We immediately got our tab and left… I wouldnt go here. You may get chased out of this shitty bar covered in paneling if you are any kind of handicap…

Haven’t been here for the food, but stopped by here for Halloween weekend. I was kinda disappointed on that Friday my friends and I couldn’t get in we got there at 12 and they were at capacity, but it looked like it was a great party. Stopped in there for actual Halloween, and there was a crowd but not too crowded. My friends and I had alot of fun. They had a dance floor and the drinks weren’t overpriced which is always a plus. Although I can’t really rate the food, the bar was pretty fun.

3.5 stars! I have been by this place for years! Never had the desire to go in. Thanks to the JWU graduation brunch-frenzy, every place that opened before 12 was packed. So I gave it a shot. place was empty due to the early graduation. Very nice clean place. My buddy and I shared a turkey rueben, hot dog platter and home-made stuffies(kind of a pu-pu platter) off the regular menu. The stuffies, while they look«store bought», are made in-house, with chorizo and a nice amount of heat and they are terrific! Hotdogs in a buttered roll were perfect and the turkey rueben on marbled rye was just the right amount of everything, nothing overpowering, all blended well. Staff seemed very interested in our opinion of the food and asked several times how we like things — nice! Minor complaint — an employee brought her grandson that ran around and shouted like owned the place — Minor like I said, but not a place for kids.

I love, love the pizza here. I recently moved next door to this place and wandered in not knowing what to expect. I promptly ordered the pepperoni pizza and nearly fell off my chair when I tried it — it is shockingly delicious. I was with my brother(a self professed pizza expert) and he said the same thing. I’ve been back twice since and ordered pizza both times. Although it’s not on the menu I convinced the waitress to ask the chef to make me a spinach and caramelized onion pizza and it was also insanely good. Even better the next day. My only compliant would be that the bar area is small and the rest of the place is made up of a square room with small square tables with white table cloths and fake flowers. It feels strange for a pub to pretend to be so fancy and if you’re going to have flowers on the table, make them real — even if they are only weeds. Still, I’ll be back often as the food far outweighs any small complaints I have about the décor.

What used to be Finnegan’s has now rebranded itself as the«Celtic Lounge». I guess they’re trying to class the place up because before, their myspace page had pictures of college girls dancing on top of the bar and now they host senior citizen dance lessons. Anyway I’m reviewing this to add to my downtown lunch list. My coworkers go here all the time so I’ve tagged along, but now I’ve put my foot down. My first time, I got a chicken caesar salad($ 12) and the lettuce was limp and the parmesan was the cheap powdered shake cheese. Listen, I’m not too snobby for cheese from the green can… if I’m at a salad bar or shaking it on a slice of pizza. Not for $ 12 though. Au Bön Pain might have a better chicken caesar for like $ 7. The next time I went, I got an overpriced club sandwich that was also not worth the money. All of the food is really blah and the atmosphere sucks.

Recently a friend and I had dinner here before a show at Lupo’s. The place was QUIET, there were maybe 6 other customer’s in the place at 7:30 on a Friday. From the looks of the busy places around it I feel like it just isn’t «cool» enough yet or something. We had a special appetizer special of crabmeat/scallop stuffed mushrooms. They were a tad bready but still AMAZING. For dinner I had fish and chips and my friend had buffalo chicken fajitas. Both delicious but paled to the app. Our server was great, attentive but not overbearing and really nice and fun. I am in the area pretty often so I will definitely keep this place in mind when needing food before a show.
