Great place with great food. The bartender was nice and the service was fast. Try the spicy fried chicken, just be warned it is SPICY, even without the sauce. Bring your own ranch because they don’t have ranch/blue cheese!

We had the hot chicken with potato salad. The hot chicken was AWESOME but the potato salad was semi mashed. I didn’t like it. We also had the gumbo. 5 stars! So flavorful!!! Lastly we had a turnip salad. That was good and refreshing… if you like turnips. Prices were A+ as well! Only con — music is too loud for a restaurant/bar. If you have to yell to have a conversation with your date, then it is too loud.

This is soley on drinks/service. Ordered capirihnas and asked to make them sweeter for my friends. She did just that, and it was delicious. She Always had a smile on, and we felt so welcomed. Took a quick glance at the menu, and I cant wait to come back! Everything sounds awesome.

I am so delighted that this place exists. My group of friends came here last night for some celebratory drinks and snacks and the whole experience was just lovely. Somehow even with the ton of amazing dining options that already exist in Providence, I think Slow Rhode manages to fill a niche that(I’d argue) we didn’t really have yet: a laid-back place a bit removed from downtown, where you can go to just have excellent drinks, have drinks and some small plates, or have a more substantial dinner, all for incredibly reasonable prices and with the option to sit outside on a patio. I think we will become regulars here! The dishes we tried were the hot chicken(whooooeeee, it was hot, folks! but that’s how it’s supposed to be!), the yummy smashed pea toasts, and the delicious duck poutine. Each dish was really nice in terms of both flavor and presentation. Portions were good for sharing among our small group. We split a bottle of prosecco and then moved on to cocktails later, and the group favorite seemed to be the Mezcal and cassis drink, which was incredibly well-balanced. The Manhattan was equally delicious. And they also had Golden Monkey(Belgian-style tripel) on tap, which is a great beer that paired well with the Southern-inspired food. The contemporary looking space is beautifully designed, and the music selections were on point. Low lighting, cool art, nice napkins. Service was just right: very attentive without causing breaks in our conversation. And when the bill arrived, everything was so affordable. Slow Rhode, you are my favorite new PVD joint! Really looking forward to more evenings here with friends over this summer.

I only had the duck drummetes and a cocktail, but my main impression was, «Why haven’t I found this place before?» The drink was about as good as you can get in Providence, except for the Eddy. The food is really well-priced, too. I’ve read that it can be quite busy but it was near empty on a Sunday night(I’m part lush). Definitely coming back to try more.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Slow Rhode. Another reason to love the West Side. A small dining too with tapas-style plates that pack a fresh, flavorful punch. English peas with pea green pesto. Roasted carrots with za’tar spice. Roasted oysters with spinach. Banana bread pudding. A full bar with a nice beer /wine list — not to mention a brewery next store. Not a place for a super large party. Hoping the garage door will open in the summer & there’ll be a few al fresco tables. Looking forward to going back to find out.

What a rad little spot. Fun plates, eclectic clientele, and a niche drink menu. Overall, I really dig this joint and would go back. The revolving menu caaan be hit or miss, which is why I’m giving it a 3 vs a 4. Also, the fried chicken can be a bit overdone(and mushy) too. But for a late night hang out with a contemporary take on small plates, this is the jam.

Wow! This place is fabulous. After reading other reviews, we tried the hot chicken, duck drumettes, black-eye pea salad, honey-roasted carrots with lentils and spiced yogurt, and chicken liver mousse with onion jam and cayenne peanuts. Everything was great and the chicken was very spicy and tasty as advertised. And then there are the cocktails. Cannot say enough. We tried the gin and mescal cocktails, both winners. Come hungry and thirsty and stay awhile. This place is worth your attention.

Slow Rhode is a great addition to Providences restaurant scene. It’s located in a redeveloped garage that used to be part of Matarese auto body. It’s a small eatery with an active bar and interesting cocktail menu. There aren’t many seats and there are no reservations. The service was great, with very attentive support from the entire staff. We started with a small plate — fries with gravy and duck confit. Delicious and simple. Not a small portion. The star of the show was the hot fried chicken, though. Habanero spicy with perfect crispy coating and great flavor balancing with the sweet pickles and potato salad. I can’t wait to go back for more chicken!

Duck confit, delish. Fried chicken is über good, really spicy. The chicken liver pâté(mousse) famtastic‼ A must visit place. Not precious just good food, good service, great prices. Decent drink selection. Albeit very limited if you want non-alcoholic. I love this place! The menu is limited, but that just means I have enough time to try everything AND I must. It’s all good! Come. Be enthralled.

Really neat small spot! They have a parking lot shared with a few other businesses which is super convenient. Don’t expect to walk in without a wait. We went in on a Saturday around 7:30 and the wait was only about a half hour for two. We grabbed a drink at the bar and then ended up actually just eating there. The wine list isn’t huge but they have a good variety. They had a bunch of wine that I had never heard of, I told the bartender what I normally drink and she was able to make a great suggestion. It was an effervescent wine from a winery in Long Island that I wish I wrote down the name of. The menu is small, but has a great variety. I love sharing a few small plates so their setup was perfect. They have quite a few toast options, it is more bruschetta like than the toast I have had other places only because it is not literally one piece of toast. The pimento cheese toast was delicious. The black eyed pea salad with feta was also awesome and perfect for a lighter side. We also shared the fillet-o-fish sandwich which I would recommend as well, the fish was crispy and flavorful. My only complaint is that they don’t offer any dessert options, even just one kick-ass option would be the perfect way to end the meal there.

Small place on the West Side close to downtown. The food is more of small plate type of thing, but done well. Mostly 2 person tables though. We went with 4 people and had to wait a pretty long time to get seated. Good thing it’s right next door to Long Live Beerworks. :)

The Slow Rhode offered a bouquet of fresh and fabulous of which I was sooooo in need. The avocado/bacon as a ‘toast’ item was absolutely delicious, offering crispy crumbles of bacon on a layer of avocado spread on a perfectly-toasted wedge of bread. This review comes from someone who is not the biggest avocado fan. Now, I must admit, I can see why avocado is so special. Of the ‘smaller things’, the duck drumettes and the gumbo, which was perfectly spiced, were the stars, although the arugula salad with a beet vinaigrette and clams/kale were quite special too. After trying 3 of the 6 menu items, I was convinced this joint was worth revisiting. Hmmmm, which of my foodie friends would really appreciate The Slow Rhode? Each and every one of them. It’s not surprising that this place is an offshoot of Broadway Bistro, one of the best restaurants I have experienced in my 13 years of living in Little Rhody. I share one down side to The Slow Rhode. I wanted more lighting on the table. Yes, I’m in my mid 40’s and my eyesight has changed, but it was kinda dark in there yo!

Friendly service Food is simply savory Drinks are semi-pricey but well-done I rolled in on St. Patrick’s Day without a plan, and emerged victorious with a full belly and a smile. If I’m being honest, I saw the pics and had my eyes on the fries. But I saw southern was the thing here, and didn’t go straight to fries/gravy and burger, which had been my ongoing plan. Rather, I went red beans and catfish sandwich, plus a draft beer. Friends, I was not disappointed, ‘specially here in Yankee country. I reckon I know precious little ’bout proper ministrations to the noble catfish if truth be told, but indeed it did please my mid-Atlantic heart to savor this fine dish so. I left not a bean without a place in my belly. Recommendation: bring intimate company here to sample the sure-fine elixirs and victuals.

Décor. Very modern restaurant. High ceilings. Dim lighting. Open kitchen. Tables are sort of close together. Reminds me a lot of New York setting Ambiance. Romantic Food. Duck Gumbo. Was awesome. Not as spicy as described. Black pepper definitely does not count as spice in my book. Very filling. Great portion of meat to rice Oyster po boy. Oysters were cooked to perfection. I thought there was too much bun and not enough sauce. Fries. Crispy on the outside. Soft and mushy on the inside Catfish was fantastic. Very large portion. Tangy sauce. I liked the purple cabbage which helped keep the dish from being too heavy Drinks. I got the vodka drink and my Bf got the tin. Both were delicious!

You know me. I’m always looking for a new restaurant to try and a few of my friends and fellow Unilocalers had been raving about the«Slow Rhode.» I had heard about it peripherally but never made the decision to try this place until this past week. The Slow Rhode is a modern Southern cuisine restaurant set a few blocks off the main strip of Federal Hill. It’s sitting next to a Karate training building as well as a beer tasting venue. They have their own parking lot. The restaurant is decorated with a modern feel. There’s only enough seating to have about 30 or so people including bar seating. Most people are dressed casually while others are dressed in suit and tie. They don’t take reservations so it’s a first come first serve basis however the turn over is quite rapid. There are already a few pictures of the menu here on Unilocal and you can get a feel for what they offer. Their alcohol list is generous. Whenever I try a new restaurant I tend to over order. This place was no different! We started off with the mushroom toast which I thought was delightful. Slightly tangy from the marinade of the mushrooms that perfectly complimented the saltiness of the cheese. Something I would definitely order again! We had the crawfish beignets and the duck pontine fries. I was on the fence with the beignets(more that I wasn’t a huge fan of beignets) but I loved the fries. Could have just had the fries as a course. By the way, be careful with the«small plates». They’re not so small. I was disappointed that they ran out of their oyster sandwich. I felt that that was one of the most«Southern» things they offered. Obviously popular but they ran out… awkward. Anyways, we opted for the burger and the hot fried chicken. They weren’t kidding the chicken was SPICY. Make sure to have a glass of water. Despite it’s fiery glaze, it was one delicious piece of moist fried chicken. The burger was cooked excellently! Definitely will be back. If you’re looking for a place that puts a modern twist on Southern food, The Slow Rhode is your place! While their menu is not extensive, they make what they offer well.

I am always happy to have more dining spots on the west side. Yay to this new establishment, in general! I do think there’s a little room for growth, and look forward to seeing how the menu develops over time. My party tried a number of things, and they were all tasty, if not as southern as I hoped. As a long-time Georgia resident, I was really looking forward to pimento toast. Alas, the pimento was served melted on a baguette! The whole point of this cheese spread is its unique, pasty texture. Please don’t melt it! Let it shine! Otherwise… the fries with duck were delicious. The burgers were solid, if a bit basic. Maybe add a spicy ketchup? The gumbo was yummy, although it could’ve use a thicker roux. Overall, the dining experience here ends up being pretty similar to the Red Fez, but a hair more expensive. I’d love to see the addition of some more classically southern items – especially the ones that require slow cooking, like brisket and other delicious barbecues. And can we get some corn bread, too?

I’ll add to the list of praises and accolades. This place is going to take off, which is awesome and deserved, but I’d almost prefer it to be a secret so I could keep coming back without having to wait for two hours. I feel like reverting to my middle school self and telling Slow Rhode«Don’t change 4 N-E-1.» Even when you become, like, popular. Ahem. Small space that looks like a converted storage unit turned into a speakeasy restaurant, if such things exist. It’s dark and bustling, a party in the middle of an otherwise quiet street, like a hide-out for people in-the-know. And here is what they know: Cocktails: Bangin’. Small list but all are well-prepared – even the tequila drink sounded good, and I hate tequila. I went with the bourbon cocktail and it hit the spot, perfect for a snowy night. They also have a wine list and a fairly extensive beer selection. I really dug the mason-jar-like glasses the beer was served in. The Food: Good God, man. Again, small list but there’s no bad option. We had the«toast»(like a crostini) with avocado and bacon, and another with oyster mushrooms and sheep milk cheese(say yes to the cheese!); the cauliflower with beet hummus that was EFFING fantastic; the gumbo with chorizo and duck confit [this will warm you from the inside out]; and the hot fried chicken that was actually spicy and drool-worthy. Down to the potato salad on the side of the chicken dish, it was all so, so good. The portions are solid for the price point and I’m adding this restaurant to my list of favorite places. Keep it up, y’all.

The Slow Rhode is a southern comfort food inspired concept by the good folks of Broadway Bistro. The portions seem to be more tapas-style/small plates with a commensurately smaller price tag than what’s on offer at Broadway Bistro, which I love because frankly I’m kind of an ADD-type eater and love«sharing» i.e. mooching off my friends’ goodies. The comfort food coming out of the kitchen here is already exceeding my expectations, especially for a place that is so new and presumably working out kinks/getting in a groove. Food I’ve tried so far in 3+ visits(in order of what I liked best): –Hot chicken — It’s really good! It’s HOTASHECK and that’s how good hot chicken should be, it burns *just so* and stings you SOGOOD. This was my favorite so far. The potato served with the chicken was also my dinner mate’s favorite on one night, judging by how quickly she smashed that little lump of goodness into her mouth. Seriously, YUM. –Braised beef — SOGOOD. The plate was basically licked clean. –Fries with Duck Poutine — really good, crispy, perfectly fried, non-oily fries and the poutine was so luxe, decadent, and caloric enough be a meal in itself. Tasty! –Oyster sandwich — solid and I liked the pillowy sandwich bread. –Chicken Mousse w/cayenne, peanuts, bread — I really loved the flavor combo here, I just wish there was more mousse spread on it or that the mousse was in a pot that I could spread myself –Pimento toast — the texture was smooth and spreadable rather than more solid which is a lot different from the pimento cheese I’ve had in the south but enjoyable and the flavors spot on. –Burger w/lettuce, cheddar, sweet onion — for $ 8, just alright. I’d try other things before coming back for it. –Crawfish beignets and broccoli casserole — both ok, I’ve had better –Cocktails — the Bourbon Cocktail with candied ginger was my favorite, but I like the beer and wine better than the cocktail concoctions here. Some suggestions for The Slow Rhode: –BBQ — With a restaurant name that has«slow» in it, I’m really hoping for some smoked bbq, good brisket and burnt ends in the future. Pleeeeeeeeeaaaasse??? –Dessert — Can we please have more than one choice of dessert or some sticky toffee pudding? –Light/table candles, I had to read the menu aloud to one friend b/c it was so dark I’m really glad The Slow Rhode has brightened up this little corner of this neighborhood and look forward to seeing how it improves even more with time.

We tried this new spot just a few days after it opened and I still feel comfortable going with 5 stars. First and foremost, the food was totally delicious! We tried a few things from each category and they were varied, interesting, and well-executed. The beer list was great, I tried a few cocktails and they were tasty as well, and the space is minimalist yet cozy. There’s a view into the kitchen from the bar and tables, which is always fun. The service was great… our server was so attentive and really paid attention to detail. Admittedly we were the only table there, but I can see her being just as great in a busy dining room because she obviously cared and is excited about the restaurant. A quick walk from my house, so I can’t wait to try more of the menu and sit at that lovely bar!
