MAYBE the pizza was good. I didn’t notice. I couldn’t really get over the cigarette smoke at the other end of the 8-seat bar, the grease stains and writing on the paper menu we were handed, the number of people who were standing around but still walked into the kitchen as they pleased, or the random coconut with a straw sticking out that belonged to a little boy who was also sitting at the bar with me. The coconut with the straw sticking out was sitting in the cooler with the sodas that were for sale. At some point during my meal, the kid got up from his seat, walked behind the bar, got the coconut from the cooler, and resumed drinking from the coconut. That had to be a violation of something! This place looks dirty from the outside in. Apparently it’s a go to spot after downtown drinking so maybe that’s why people haven’t noticed it’s flaws. The cigarette smoke ultimately drove me out though. I haven’t been forced to eat or even live around 2nd hand smoke in years! Where they do that at!!!

I had my first pizza from this place over the weekend and WOW. The little place makes a great thin crust pizza. I’m lucky to have found this place early in my Racine tenure.

Dayum! There is something special about this place, and I just can’t put my finger on it. I’ve lived in Racine my entire life, and have only just decided to try their pizza about two years ago. I have only ever gotten their stuffed pizza, but my God it is freaking incredible. I honestly can’t think of a better way to put it. Their delivery driver is hands down one of the nicest I have ever encountered, and timely. I regret overlooking this place all these years and I hope if your reading this you check it out!

While working one night at the firehouse we decided to order some pizza after getting back from a fire. The only place advertised delivery of pizza at that late hour was Pizza Chef, so we thought we’d give it a try. We were a bit surprised by the high price but as it was late and we were starving, so we decided to order anyway. When we finally received the pizza it was absolutely the worst pizza any of us had ever eaten. I ended up with a terrible case of indigestion and will never order from Pizza Chef again.

Family run, over forty five years, from father to son. I have to admit it’s been some time since my last visit here. In talking with them, they told us that the old man passed away about four years ago, we knew him so it was sad to hear. Unfortunately my husband was not along with us on this road trip, I went to the game with Jenny Z., and her hubby. So on our way back home, looking for a place to grab a bite, I spotted Pizza Chef was still there, in the same family, that made my day. How perfect, a Sox win and the Pizza Chef. When I told my husband we stopped in Racine to eat and asked him to guess where we where, he knew it in an instant. I know Chicago is known for it’s pizza, however this place kicks butt, I’d be huge if this place were here. We talk about this place to people here all the time. This is not a fancy dinner place, what you’ll find is about eight bar stools in front of a counter. There are no white table clothes and no hostess either. Step in walk a few short feet forward and sit down. We used to come here every weekend many moons ago, sometimes twice each weekend when we had our boat docked at the harbor. I remember each week how I looked forward to getting here to order a pizza puff. Or as we call it in Chicago a Calazone. Their crust as I remembered it was perfection, and much to my pleasure it still is. I ordered a large puff so I can bring leftovers home. As I said, this place isn’t fancy, matter of fact if you order thin crust pizza you’ll get a nice, however disposal plate, puffs get a real plate because you have to cut them. Remember this place is about the food, or to be specific the pizza and the puffs. I’ve never had a sandwich here, so can’t comment on that, however we were informed that mom makes the pasta homemade. I’m going to have to make it back to try the pasta.
