One of my favorite Chinese restaurants! Everything is delicious, no matter what you order you cannot go wrong. The customer service is outstanding. Five Stars all across.

Pretty good food. My favorite Chinese spot in Rancho. Never too long of a wait and the prices are reasonable.

The place is kind of pricey for the quality of food orange chicken was somewhat old tasting. this place is the type of place you have to be begging for things like water, napkins, the place is to slow. one waiter for the whole place. I read another review and it’s true there is a lot of lack of communication they just don’t understand you. Now you got understand this place is not a fast food Chinese place it’s a sitdown please and you still have to buy canned sodas it’s ridiculous sorry but don’t recommend

they make some of the best chinese food dishes I have ever tasted. wonton soup is great, beef brocoll, fried rice etc. Believe me, there is a big difference between chinese fast food and this chinese food restaurant. Also the lady that waitresses is very nice and friendly.

I’ve been coming here for over 6 years. It’s always been one of my favorite Chinese food places to eat at. Good food, and the service is always pleasant. There’s never a wait due to its lowkey location. Definitely a place to catch delicious dinner with affordable prices.

Thank you Unilocal! We found this restaurant on Unilocal and LOVED it! Four of us came here for dinner and our bill was only $ 42 with a very full box of leftovers for lunch tomorrow. We started with the pork wonton appetizers. They were homemade and amazing! Next we had the wonton soup. It was pretty good. The wontons were very flavorful but the broth was slightly bland. The wonton soup is probably the only thing we won’t get next time. For our main course we had three flavor lo mein(chicken, beef and shrimp), beef broccoli, orange chicken and steamed rice. We loved it all! And for $ 42 for 4 people it is a steal!

I remember coming here when I was a small child and hearing my parents go on and on about how good it was… Well over a decade later my girlfriend and I were looking for something to eat and came across this little old place and to say the least, we were pleased. The food is excellent and fresh and the service is top notch. I’m very happy with my visit and we will be back frequently!

Amazing! The chicken in the mushroom chicken was so tender and perfectly balanced! The Peking pork was delicious and the shrimp fried rice was perfect!

I have been going here for years, and I have never been dissappointed until now. First off, the new waiter doesn’t know much english and it hard to understand. 2nd) They remodeled the place and it doesn’t look good. 3.) they have upped their price since its under new management and last but not least, the food and service is crap. They stopped serving tea and rice with the meals and the food is not as good as it used to. Actually the food is not good at all. Sorry, but with the new direction this place has gone, I am no longer going to eat here anymore. You should avoid this place

My parents and I decided to visit this restaurant. It was probably about 8:30 on a Saturday night, so granted, they were winding down I’m sure. We got sat and the server seemed very sweet and polite. We opt for the family dinner. First off, for the soup we got the shrimp sizzling rice soup. Pretty much it should be called cabbage soup. There were only 3 pieces of shrimp(1 for each person). We asked about this and were told that’s how it was supposed to be. Only 3 pieces in that big bowl. Later our server brought it back saying she put 6 more pieces of shrimp in there, which was very nice. The rest of the appetizer was decent, though, I guess. Oh the entrees… We got the shrimp and broccoli, kung pao chicken, and orange peel chicken. The shrimp and broccoli was tasty. Very flavorful. However the kung pao chicken was mostly water chestnuts and peanuts. I put 2 heaping spoonfuls on my plate and probably had about half a dozen pieces of chicken in there. The flavor of the sauce was ok. Nothing to write home about but I didn’t hate it. The orange peel chicken is a complete bust. It had absolutely no orange flavor whatsoever. It tasted like sugary goo, basically. The fried rice was dark brown which was weird. Didn’t necessarily taste bad(I thought it was a ton of soy sauce so I expected it to taste like pure saltiness) but it didn’t. Wasn’t much different from getting steamed rice since it didn’t have any veggies or egg in it. While the server seemed nice we had to ask for EVERYTHING. More water, more tea, a serving spoon for our food, the check… Which was odd since we were literally the only people in the restaurant. We opted to not take the orange peel chicken in a box home with us. Our server did seem really concerned about why, which was nice that she seemed to care. All in all… I’d say save your money and go somewhere else because I could have gotten better food from the frozen food aisle at the grocery store.

Date of visit-12/19/13 Thursday evening Lately we have been eating an awful lot of Asian food! China Star serves some delicious Chinese food. Our server was pleasant and very efficient. Drinks and hot tea were refilled and appetizers and entrees came out hot and in the correct order… appetizers first! All of our food was tasty and well seasoned. The Beef and Snow Peas and the Almond Chicken were truly excellent. Seafood Sizzling Rice Soup was the perfect dish to warm us from the outside cold and rain. Portions are generous and prices are from $ 7-$ 11 for most entrees. Rice and hot tea are free with your order. The food has so much flavor! I think that this may be my new favorite restaurant.

This place has good food at great prices! Beware of the weird hours, they are not open during the day a lot and closed until 4pm only on certain days. Credit cards only with a $ 15.00 minimum. Luckily there are a few other eating places within the same strip mall, so if you go there during the many times they are not open there are other choices. If you are expecting fancy or upscale forget it, what you get is decent Chinese food at bargain prices. The dinner and lunch prices are the same $ 6.95 to $ 7.95 all good but there are only about 5 choices on the specials. Lots of homeless people and trash in the parking lot but hey, it’s cheap! Service is very good and they play soft, soothing music too, nothing to complain about!

Every small town should have a go to ‘hole in the wall’ Chinese Food restaurant. My wife and I used to go to China Star all of the time when we were younger. For us, China Star was that go to place. We had not been back since the 90’s, but it was everything I remembered it to be when we recently visited. Our waitress was friendly and the service was great. It was just as we remembered! The food was the same as well. My family and I ordered the Kung Pao chicken, beef with green pepper, and sliced chicken with vegetables from the«Family Dinners» menu. Our orders also came with soup, fried rice, and a small appetizer assortment. The only thing I didn’t like was the Kung Pao chicken. It is usually my favorite Chinese dish, but it had too many vegetables and not enough chicken. Everything else was really good! I remember the chicken in black bean sauce always being my favorite in the past, so I will be sure to get that the next time that I go back. China Star has good food and great service. I always liked going here when I was a kid, and still like it now. I look forward to going back again!

One of the first restaurants i ever went to since moving to the IE. Since 1989 I’ve been coming here happily and eating like a pig. Darn Americans. They used to be ran by this really mean old lady, but she’s gone now, and this younger mean lady is there. This place is really good, but lacks in the service department. Food– Chicken with snow peas, yes, Beef with broccoli, yes, Sweet and sour pork, yes. Seriously, everything is good on this menu. Egg flower soup and Wonton soup are awesome as well. You won’t go wrong. I think the pork fried rice is way better than the egg fried rice IMHO. Service– None. You have to ask for everything. That’s ok. It’s still good. Give them a chance and they’ll win you over.

LOVELOVELOVECHINASTAR! I’ve been going to this restaurant for quite a few years now and it never disappoints. I always recommend this place, especially to friends and coworkers that have never been. Since I’m a regular, my face is memorable and before I can even say what I ALWAYS order, our waitress says«Kung Pao Chicken, right? and Cream Cheese Wontons?» haha I love it. Their food is delicious. and it is really hard to find a good Chinese restaurant, so I don’t understand how people can say it isn’t good. BECAUSEITIS! Trust me. In fact, I will make my weekly visit to China Star tomorrow :]

I tried this place strictly based on the previous reviews. I’ve driven by here numerous times, but the surroundings always turned me off so I never bothered trying it. I have to say, I must agree with Andrew L. on his assessment. It’s spot on. A a chinese food officianado, this place is okay. Not better then Foothill Bistro, but I can still see myself coming here every now and then. Price wise, it’s okay. Not too expensive, but not cheap either. Their lunch combos aren’t bad, but I prefer the chinese lunch specials offered at China Point more. Taste wise, not bad. If it weren’t for the fact that it’s pretty close to my house, i probably wouldn’t eat here, but because it is so close, and the fact that the food is not terrible, I’ll probably come back again. I ordered the pan fried noodles and crispy shrimp. Something tells me that the crispy shrimp is best eaten fresh. The crispiness was all but gone by the time and got home. And the noodles… not bad. I prefer chinese egg noodles(really thin crispy noodles), but there are okay. Bottom line: I come here again if I was too lazy to drive to Foothill Bistro or China Point for lunch.

One of the employees(don’t know if he was a manager) knew me because I was a regular customer, but when he left, it seemed like I haven’t gotten food there in yrs, but the two had nothing to do w/each other. I just stopped getting food there, but I REALLYLIKETHEIRFOOD& I should go there again since my other usual place the Noble House has been closed up. I haven’t been here in yrs, but this is one of my favorite places! I’ve never eaten in the place though, I always get it to-go. It’s definitely far above the cheap little Chinese eateries.
