Very strange looking building. Wasn’t busy yet still took a long time. The waitress forgot to bring the saki until we reminded her 20 minutes later. Sushi was alright. Got a stomach ache a few hours later.

This place is amazing. Inexpensive and great service. I dreamt of the Sunrise Gunken, and I could eat 20 of them. Short hours, great experience. I’ll return with more friends and family.

Great sushi. Very authentic and also very reasonable pricing. Always up for a good sushi joint and this place did not disappoint.

I should have turned around a left the moment I walked in the door and smelled«old fish». I stayed anyway and sat at the bar. The chef was gruff as the reviews so I knew that was coming. The sushi rolls and sashimi were nothing special, verging on poor. What was unusual were the extreme stomach cramps and«intestinal distress» that followed that night and the next morning. Never have I been that sick. Yes, it could have been something else I ate but in review, this was the most likely source. That will be my only trip to this restaurant. by far the lowest quality in town.

I worked for Kenji when I was a young man, he was the best boss a gut could ask for. Mean as hell but held you to a high standard and let you know it. Also the man is a absolute MASTER at the art of sushi. I miss Kenji, Souchoi, drunk Wern, and Hungry man, and all the good times I had as a waiter at Sakura. I give Kenji 5 stars!

The edamame was warm and delicious. The poke gakun was also very good. The outside looks like its closed but its not. The sushi chef is terrific. the inside of the restaurant is pleasant and the wait staff was great. Will go there again. One of the best sushi restaurants.

Wonderful, fresh sushi. Hamachi(yellowtail) melted in our mouths. Quaint & authentic. We just moved to Redding after 39 years in San Diego area and we think this is the best sushi in town.

Very good food, awesome deal. This is sushi in its simplist form. Some fish, some rice and not much more… and it is delicious. Dont expect to find intricate rolls covered in exotic sauces and mayonnaise. That isnt served here. We will be back.

Best in town. Don’t be discouraged by the outside. I don’t eat sushi anywhere els town. Service is great. You always know what your getting because the owner is the only sushi chef. You can tell he has been doing this a long time. This man knows sushi. It’s not over complicated with a ton of sauce or crap all over it. The fish is great quality… especially for Redding! Soooo come try it! You won’t regret it!

A quaint decent Japanese place for the area. The hostess is very friendly and the chef is initially a bit reserved. But once you get them to open up, it’s a nice place to have experienced. Good is good too.

This places goes with the saying«never judge a book by its cover» this is one of the best sushi places I’ve had in the area so far. My boyfriend and I are came here to visit my family and we were craving sushi, we read reviews for a lot of the places in town but it was mixed reviews for majority of them. This place had a lot of good reviews but we were kinda of skeptical because of the building. The hours were really weird too, lol, so that brought on more doubt. However, we gave it a try and it was one of the best choices we made. We are from NC and there we know the place/area and the sushi places but this place is equivalent or even better than the ones we are regulars at in NC. Give it a try, you might just like it too.

Sakura Sushi is an authentic Japanese restaurant. The facility is rustic but the food is very good.

My husband and I found this gem on accident and fell in love!!! The place was so good! I’m a vegetarian but my husband loves sushi and I’m guessing it was the owner that said he would make some custom veggie just for me! It was amazing! Will totally be going back!!! Only down fall is they don’t open until 5pm

This place is amazing! Don’t let the building fool you! First and most importantly the sushi is delicious and reasonably priced. Second, the inside is cozy with nice Japanese décor and a very relaxing environment. Third, our waitress was lovely and stayed on top of everything(it probably helped that my boyfriend and I and another group of 4 were the only ones in the restaurant). Overall a great place for nice relaxing dinner.

Good sushi at a great price. Agree with others about not being intimidated by the looks of the restaurant from the outside. Looks definitely aren’t always what they seem. Since they only have a menu viewable on computers, I’ve uploaded pictures of it from my phone.

DELICIOUSSUSHI. GREATVALUE. The outside may dissuade you, but the food by Kenji and service by Melissa were grade A. Great flavors. And he makes Futomaki!!! We were driving through Redding and walked inside to check it out because of reviews. Would have left if inside wasn’t decent. Wish they were in my hometown.

Very small space but extremely comfortable. With wall to wall traditional Japanese styling, the booths provide privacy while a seat at the bar is cozy and lends to easy conversation with other patrons. We started with a delicious seaweed salad then waited almost 40 minutes for our sushi. It was fresh and expertly cut making it almost worth the wait. The friendly staff made it an overall great dining experience. 4 stars because of the wait but a must for any sushi lover in the area.

Consistently fresh and delicious sushi. We’ve been here 3 times now(how did I not know this place existed in Redding?!?). Small and intimate. Don’t be intimidated by the outside; it’s really small! We learned the last time that he pickles his mackerel on site, and it’s the best we’ve ever had. Hubby always orders 4 pieces. Our other go-to roll is the yellowtail roll(dynamite I think it’s called). Yum! Can’t wait to come back.
