Just ate there. Train wreck roll was great. Smaller roll than Chu Too but just as flavorful. A lot of long faces on staff. Kinda a downer. Would definitely come back.

I used to love Tokyo Garden… But I think this will be our last visit here. The booth we were in smelled like urine. The roll we had was OK, but it wasn’t great. It was too warm for my liking. The rolls are extremely over priced. If I’m going to spend that amount, I can think of many other sushi places in town that are delish and more reasonably priced. The waitress was nice, but very slow.

Been going here for years but today service was terrible… Sat there 20 minutes without a hi be right With you. No water nothing… Finally stared at a waitress she nervously smiled and ran to the back… Actually walked out telling the people behind me good luck with any service

The sushi was good but nothing great compared to the many other places I’ve eaten at. The service was super slow and awkward and they weren’t even busy! It took us 10 mins before someone came to take our drink orders and another ten for the salads to start and the sushi took about a good 45 – 50 minutes… I am pretty understanding but this place just made my blood boil. I usually let things like this slide but I am never ever going back to this place. The sushi prices are ridiculous! 15 dollars for a caterpillar roll? It takes you about 2 max to make this roll and you’re charging 15? C’mon, if it was 8 or 9 I would understand but 15?! Only my little brother who throws his money out the window wouldn’t mind spending this kind of money here. As for me I can have much better sushi and service some where else. Don’t waste your time or money on this place, try Sakura it is also in Redding and is a hole in the wall but has great sushi for reasonable prices.

Don’t understand at all why the mediocre reviews. This is a gem! Came in on a business trip, on the recommendation of the local hotel clerk. They were right. Tokyo garden has fantastic sushi! We started with the salmon poki, which was phenomenal. I’ll say I was a little disappointed with the portion but then I was really hungry! In retrospect is say it’s definitely in line with other good sushi restaurants. We moved on to the sashimi, and found the fish to be utterly delicious. Fantastic! Flavorful, fresh, and buttery smooth. Wow. On top of that, the help was great. Friendly, accommodating, and very cheerful. I highly recommend it!

I used to come here all the time with my family as a teenager, it was always our favorite place. We grabbed some to-go noms while visiting my family this weekend for Mother’s Day and it brought back some great memories. We called in ahead and the girl that took the order was really helpful in finding out what my gluten free options were. They don’t have a gf menu but there are some items that are naturally or can be prepared gf. She really went above and beyond in taking our order, even asking if they should take any special precautions in preparing my food to prevent contamination of gluten, so that was greatly appreciated. Our order was ready in about 20 minutes and everything was correct. Walking in the restaurant was very nostalgic. The rich decorations including beautiful lighted glass windows and deep reds and blacks as the color scheme gives off a fun thematic atmosphere. The restaurant split into two rooms with booths and tables lining the walls and the sushi bar in back give it an intimate feel. Our food was tasty. I enjoyed edamame and the chicken curry which were naturally gf. The two rolls we ordered(avocado and Philadelphia) to share had fresh ingredients. My fiancé also had the chicken curry and thought it was pretty good. My parents enjoyed their beef teriyaki and shrimp tempura. Price wasn’t bad, about 20 a person and we had enough for a meal the next day. Overall it seems like this place is still a pretty solid option with lots of menu diversity.

Good but nothing special. Super expensive and awkward service. No exciting specials for exotic fish. I will not return. I usually don’t eat any sushi is Redding. This place is very mediocre and expensive.

Our kids love their«sticky rice» and the California rolls are really good. The lunch binto boxes are great and how quickly they get the food out makes lunch hour seem a little longer. Give them a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Our favorite spot to get sushi. Service is great and doesn’t take long for your sushi to arrive.

The wife was so excited to go out on a date on a Friday Night. We had a show that started at 7:00PM, so we thought that a 5 o’ clock dinner nearby would be a safe bet. On the way to Tokyo Garden, we called and were told«come on in» no wait and no reservation needed. So, we show up, and notice that its not super busy, several open tables, things are looking good right? Wrong! The first hostess asks how many, we say 2 for dinner please, she says let me check. Meanwhile another waitress shows up and grabs two menus to seat us, and asked if we have been helped, we reply, «why yes» the other hostess is grabbing a table for us. The original hostess comes back about five minutes later and says, «We have a 20 — 30 minute wait, is that okay? On a side note, she was actually pretty rude about informing us of the wait, and seemed shocked when we said«no thanks». I am unsure why she would quote that with several visible empty tables, but we didn’t want to chance running late, so we bailed on the sushi, and hit up the Mexican place next door. Redding, CA has several good Sushi Restaurants, but we do enjoy some of the rolls made here, so we inevitably will be back at some point for lunch or maybe dinner.

It’s early(5pm) on a Sunday and our family had reservation for 9 for a 16th Birthday dinner. We were placed at a table in the back by the server station although many other options were possible. Ironically, as close as we were to the server station, our drinks were never refilled until we asked her and then she took quite a while to return. The food itself was fine but the service atrocious. The server even chastised the birthday girl when she was ordering — she was asked to bring the brown rice tea, to which the server retorted«We only have one type of tea,» with more attitude than was necessary. The food isn’t good enough to have service like that — I won’t be returning.

It took over 1 ½ hours to get my food they delivered to wrong place then when I finally got it the driver didn’t want to give me my food without payment when I paid online and they already said I’d get my money back then when speaking to Peter the owner he blamed the hostess Oh and driver was speaking different language while making me stand in rain to straighten issue out then I get inside to find my food is cold and containers open so I call an complain again to a lady named Kathy and she blamed the driver. VERY unprofessional not taking ownership of issue and language barrier. Top it off they didn’t even send fortune cookies. I used to be a loyal customer but you can count me out now. Absolutely horrible.

The service was not very friendly, one of the three working the floor was trying hard. The food tasted very good, not one complaint there. But, $ 22 for my wife and I, then I went to Costco to get a hot dog. There was not enough meat on my plate of beef to cover a few crackers. I was very disappointed in the portion, and very hungry when I left.

Do not waste your time here. Those who go here and find it good probably have never had fresh, tasty sushi. On my last visit, the edamame tasted like it had been sitting out for hours and the actual roll tasted anything but fresh. Do yourself the favor and head downtown to Kobe. I made a vow to never come to Tokyo Garden again and I intend on keeping that vow. Honestly this doesn’t even deserve a full star. I’m really not trying to be rude here, just honest – save your money.

Love this place. In Redding once a month and always eat here at least once. Great service. Menu has good variety. I have had better sushi but have also paid a lot more. A sushi snob might suffer over imitation crab but I love being able together a sushi fix without breaking the bank. I alway order alligator roll. Love crunchy salmon skin. Will be back next trip

Surprisingly good. Fantastic teriyaki chicken and the salad dressing was great! I ordered the dinner box #1 along with miso soup. I really enjoyed it all. The staff was friendly and not pushy. I didn’t give them 5 stars because some of the sushi was falling apart. I’ll be back when in Redding.

We were driving through and this place happened to be open when other sushi bars were not. We loved everything about it. Freshly cocked soy beans, great sashimi and dynamite roll. Highly recommend N

I’d like to begin this review by saying that I no longer reside in Redding, I’ve since moved to southern California where I’m blessed enough to have a very wide range of different types of restaurants available to me well as Japanese restaurants who pride themselves on being the best. Whenever I make the trip home this along with a few other places are absolute musts on my go to list. When I was a kid, I developed my taste for sushi and asian soups here, so of course this is where I consider to be the most suited to my taste buds. I love everything about this restaurant, definitely a must.

So far, it’s the best sushi in Redding I can find. So far… Having recently moved up from San Francisco, I’m pretty picky. Tokyo Garden’s prices are reasonable, quality of food is good, and service is always friendly. They can get pretty busy for lunch, so I usually do take out. The front hostess seems to be pretty good at who is next in line as swarms of rude people wave receipts in her face to pay, or constantly ask when they can get seated. When I do take out, they always have it ready when I get there and never get my order wrong. I had to pull a star though, because I find too many rolls have tempura. I wish there were more Special Rolls with no tempura. It seems to be a Redding thing for sushi places though…
