Mike’s Amazing Cakes

I cannot say enough good things about Mike and his crew! They are incredible! I absolutely love the old fashioned buttermilk cake and their buttercream. But I mostly love how easy they are to work with.
I took a 3 day class with them and couldn’t be happier about the experience. From the very first email to now months later contacting then with random questions, they always make time for me. Their expertise and tutelage has helped me step up my game and take my business to the next level!
Their creativity is second to none. And the level of detail they create is just amazing! They truly deserve the name!
I would highly recommend them!

Our family go-​to! First it was a casino roulette table (3D) for my parents 25^th anniversary & now it was our semi-​3D reasonably priced Star Wars cake for my father’s 50^th. Their work is always amazing to present and the cake is made easy to transfer. Their consultant is a great middle — man to get those ideas in your head and onto something sweet. I give 4 stars because while presentation & cake are amazing, their frosting was definitley on the sweeter side for both occasions. Still, I’ll be going to them again!

We ordered only a small 8-​inch cutting cake for our wedding since we were having other dessert. Glad we didn’t spend a ton for a big cake because the design looked terrible. We sent them photos of exactly what we wanted but the color and design were way off when the cake arrived on wedding day. It honestly made me feel like they thought we didn’t spend enough with them to warrant top-​quality work. I only bumped it up to 2 stars because the flavor (strawberry mousse) was fantastic.

We visited 2 other bakeries before selecting Mike’s Amazing Cakes. When we got to Mike’s and saw their elaborate designs, we fell in love but assumed it would be our most expensive option. To our surprise, it was MORE affordable AND better than expected. We ended up doing both a wedding cake and a «groom’s cake» so we could have the fun waterfall theme. With so many out of town guests, it was great for them to experience our «Pacific Northwest» cake with delicious flavors like lemon with Marionberry. Extremely impressed and would highly recommend.

Just like other reviewers below I have also had the same problem receiving a quote. I emailed them, received a request to email them my cake ideas, never hear back, called again and asked for a quote, was told that my email was misplaced and they’d get back to me ASAP… 3 weeks later have given up all hope. Guess I’d rather have this happen to me now instead of the day of my wedding. Disappointed that their customer service is so terrible because they are definitely competitively priced and talented.

Not so amazing. Beautifully decorated cakes, but that’s all. The samples at the tasting were ok, the mousse filling was ok and the flavored not special. The cake itself not too noisy. So my daughter ordered a sample cake anyhow, and it was dry, crumbly and tasteless.
We will go elsewhere. Might call this the Kardashian of cakes-​looks good on the outside but inside «yuk».

Whats the point if you close the bakery by 4pm. Sucks

We selected them to make a cake for a special occasion after a tasting. We had some issues with their website not working so they didn’t contact us from the website, I had to follow up and always call them on the phone so they can be challenging to reach. My big complaint would be the pricing. They indicate pricing at their tasting but they don’t actually give you that price. It’s a «smoke and mirrors» kind of deal where if you want anything done they price the «add on» and if you have a few it’s hard to tell because they don’t break it down. They said that they would at the tasting but they never really would do it fully so I couldn’t tell why it was so much. They also expect you to take some of the decorations based upon what they decide to do and I found that they decisions appear to be mostly to take the easiest decorating route. Mike didn’t make our cake, it was made by one of his other bakers. I liked the fact that you can pay a reasonable price for delivery or you can pick it up yourself. I liked that the cake tasted very fresh and they have lots of choices. The cake looked great but in my personal opinion for the outrageous price we paid (more than we paid for our wedding cake) it wasn’t that impressive. I don’t know if I would use them again. I think that they make great cakes but they are very expensive and there are some drawbacks. I think that might be why they get inconsistent reviews… some of their cakes are amazing, some not so amazing but bottom line is that you will pay a lot.

First off, their cake flavors are amazing — they have so many combinations you’ll find something you like for sure. I was a fan of the taste for sure. I was less impressed with the look of our cake for our wedding than I expected but it still tasted great and they were on time with the setup and everything. Overall pleased — if I did it again though, I would have gotten a much better idea of what our cake was going to look like.

Had the same problem as another reviewer. I asked for a cake and a quote– they asked me how much I wanted to spend and I had no idea what cakes cost. They said they’d get back to me with some ideas. After two weeks of emailing «Theresa» and receiving no response I’m left without a cake for a company event. My mistake for not immediately contacting another baker but I’d expect more from these guys– or anyone in business.
Hint: If they tell you they’ll get right back to you and then they don’t respond with 24 hours start looking for another baker. They’ll ignore you completely.

My husband and I were supposed to get our cake done with another vendor but the quality on the design would have been lacking. We found this place and drove from Ft. Lewis all the way to Redmond to meet with them. The meeting went great and they had me email them some pictures and stuff. They knew what my budget was. A week later I got a reply to another email asking about status and she said Mike would be in and have an rough draft to me no later than Tuesday. I called Friday and left a message because I hadn’t heard anything again. No response. I called back a week later and left another message saying I know you guys are busy but I’ve heard nothing in 2 weeks and that if they don’t want to do my cake to please just let me know so i can find another vendor. It’s been 6 weeks and I have never heard back from them. I guess if you don’t spend $ 2,000 on a cake then you are not worth their time. Now I’m too close to the wedding date and its hard finding someone that can even squeeze it in. Thanks a lot.

WOW! Mike’s cakes are nothing short of amazing, spectacular, incredible, and more! My birthday cake drew more attention than my bevy of sexy, hot girlfriends. Throughout the entire night, I had random strangers stop by my table to gawk at, comment, and take pictures of it. My friends were also in awe of it and took pictures of the cake nonstop. I was upstaged by my own cake!
It’s very lifelike in person! So much so that I was often asked of the «sushi’s» authenticity. I honestly didn’t expect much with the taste as I assumed the bakers spent more time on the decoration but boy was I wrong. It was light, with aromatic and great tasting passion fruit filling. It was obviously a hit. A guy passed by offered $ 5 for a slice because it looked so good. I cannot wait to see his next creation!

Today I drove an hour to go meet with a representative from Mike’s Amazing Cakes. The lady i met with as incredibly rude. She took me to a small office sat me and my mom down and then left for 10 minutes. When she returned she presented 4 samples for us to try. The cake was incredibly dry. I then asked some questions and was met with very curt/​short replies. It would seem if im looking to spend $ 1,000 on a cake that they would make the meeting more enjoyable? After 15 minutes and after she was incredibly short with my mom i quickly reliezed that no great design was worth being treated this way. Perhaps they feel they can act this way since they do have quiet a unique design… but in the end the moisture wasn’t there… coupled with poor customer service i would rather not have a cake at all.

After taste testing cakes from three or four different shops, I looked into Mike’s Amazing Cakes. At the Seattle Wedding Expo in January, I got a brochure with a 10% off coupon for Mike’s Amazing Cakes. August rolls around and I came across the brochure, but the only thing I remembered about their display was the pictures I took of the crazy cakes. I was hesitant to get a quote because I figured they would be expensive due to their expertise in cake designing. Plus, I was worried that the flavor would be lacking since it appeared their main focus was on the design.
Check their website for a tasting buffet. We went to a cake buffet where eight flavor combinations were available to taste. When we first walked in the woman gave us a piece of paper with all eight flavor combinations and then she served us each a small plate with about three bites of each of the eight cakes. We went through paper and circled the ones we liked and crossed off the ones we didn’t. She also mentioned there will be another tasting with eight new flavor combinations. It was too difficult to choose, so of course we went back for the second tasting.
The flavors were so amazing! Oh, and the price was actually about the same as the other three or four bakeries we checked out. We ended up ordering a three tier, round cake for 70 people. As our RSVP cards kept coming in, I had to call and add a small side round cake for an additional 10 people. Then two weeks later I called and added a second side cake for another 10 people. It was no problem whatsoever with Mike’s Amazing Cakes to make these changes.
On the day of, my fiancé’ signed for the cake delivery. A few moments later I noticed that only one of the side cakes got delivered. My fiancé’ immediately called Mike’s Amazing Cakes and notified them of the mistake. Of course, I freaked out. After the ceremony we walked into the reception and the second cake was there. So, I’m not sure if the delivery guy forgot about it or what, but the good news is that it arrived and there was enough cake for everyone.
Even after the goof, I would highly recommend Mike’s Amazing Cakes. I didn’t mention that the cake was very pretty. But, the most important thing to us was taste, followed by price. The taste was definitely the best I’ve had and the price is comparable. So, for the look, taste, price, and professionalism, you cannot beat what they have to offer.

I got my small wedding cake here many, many years ago. Back then they did cake toppers for small weddings (I basically eloped… got married at the Glamorama in Fremont). I remember it being in an old industrial strip mall and their office was no bigger than a closet with a couple of books to look thru.
The cake was good — the decoration was basically just some real flowers on the cake (which I remember leaving an odd after taste). Who knows, maybe I’ll get a cake from them for my 20^th Anniversary…

I recently ordered a wedding cake for 10 people. I purchased the unconventional cake with the leopard skin pattern on the base. The top of the cake had «linen» with gold tassels and a cluster of grapes and grape leaves. The top of the cake was beautiful and as I expected, but the leopard print left much to be desired. It was not painted with the detail I was led to believe from the example photo. The cake was tasty but with all the fondant not the best I’ve had. One accepts the fondant because you purchase these cakes for the wow factor. Since that was missing in my cake I was disappointed.

They did my wedding cake and a grooms cake
Pros:
1. Wedding cake was awesome, and they were the only shop willing to do the «8 bit» hearts on the cake for us. 3 of four layers tasted amazing, but no one was happy with the Red Velvet layer as it was very dry and crumbly.
2. They only charged $ 94.00 for the grooms cake because we got it and a wedding cake
3. They refunded us the cost of the grooms cake due to the mistake on it and due to the Red Velvet’s lack of quality.
4. They were early delivering the cake, which was great because my husband-​to-​be didn’t see his surprise grooms cake.
Cons:
1. They screwed up the design on the grooms cake, which would be excusable, had I not handed them and emailed them copies of the design and when they asked for it again 3 days before the wedding, called them, explained it and emailed it again.
The cake was supposed to be 2 tiers, with playing cards on it.
Top tier: Jack and King card
Lower tier: 2 «3» cards
Bottom/​leaning to side of cake: 4 Aces
These specifications correlated to some inside jokes with my husband and his groomsmen.
I explained this all to Mikes, and why it was so important, yet the cake arrived and the cards were just scattered around and frosted to the cake so they could not be moved. It was supposed to be a great surprise that to this day I feel really took away from how special it was.
2. The Red Velvet layer was really terrible, it tasted freezer burned, old, as though they used a long ago frozen cake and covered it with fresh frosting & fondant. And it was very dry and crumbly.
Altogether it was a decent experience, but I’m not sure I’d hire them if I wanted anything else very specific done.

I’ll preface this review by saying that I didn’t buy a cake from Mike’s Amazing Cakes but I had the opportunity of eating one. I posted pics for your viewing pleasure although unfortunately my phone doesn’t take good pics. My friends wife surprised him with a birthday cake in the form of a BMW M3. I couldn’t believe it looked as good as it did. She said she sent him pics and you could tell a lot of time went into making this cake. My friend didn’t want to even eat it because it looked so cool. Surprisingly it tasted good as well. It was somewhat moist and you could taste the flavors. For some reason my friend is a fan of strawberry banana cake. I hate banana flavor and I thought it was still pretty good. I would definitely go to Mike’s Amazing Cakes if I need a cake designed a certain way.

I really want to give 2.5 but I’ll give them 3 b/​c at least the cake tasted good.
I went to them to order my wedding cake. We love Snoopy and had found a picture of what we wanted on the Internet. I wanted it done pretty much exactly the same as the picture — the first tier. The only difference was the Snoopy’s collar was a different color and I wanted a bow tie on the boy Snoopy.
First, I make an appointment for the tasting. That was fine … I showed her the picture, tasted the cakes, she took notes, … I’m like okay. And the price is reasonable.
So then I decide to go ahead w/​the order a few days later. There were many times I called with no one answering, and no one returning my calls. I emailed to find out what’s going on. Then one time I finally got on the phone w/​her (she finally called me back) and one of us lost the connection — well she called from a Private number so I’m figuring she’s the one who’s going to call me back cos otherwise I have to go and look up her number. I wait like 10 minutes and she hasn’t called me back… so finally I look up the number, call back, and she’s like oh I Thought you’d call me back. I’m like oook…
Anyway, fast forward and on the call I’m very specific that I want my cake to look EXACTLY like the picture, except for the details I mentioned. In the picture, it’s obvious that the Snoopy’s are part of the cake — as in they’re made of Cake too. I figured no problem, Mike sculpts tons of cakes. And the standard frosting they give is a beige/​off-​white color so I am looking for an entirely beige/​off-​white cake including the Snoopys right.
The day of my wedding… after the ceremony, as I walk in to the reception room. I glance at the cake — and the Snoopy’s are plastic! And they’re a totally different shade of white than the rest of the cake. And the details in the flowers on the cake are also different. I get it — maybe there was a design change, or some thought that went in and they thought — the bride and groom want to keep the Snoopy topper that cost so much. I don’t disagree but i’d loved to have had a heads up and maybe then I could have at least changed it so the color of the topper is the same shade as the cake. It just looked totally weird to me. Call me picky bride but when I pay for a cake to look exactly like the picture (and it was really simple honestly) then I want to get what I paid for.
Oh, and one of the Snoopy’s ears fell off at the end of the night… So much for keeping that perfect wedding topper.
Regardless, I ordered the tiramisu and I actually thought the cake itself and buttercream were decent so I will give them stars for that…

Mike’s Amazing Cakes is just that, amazing.
Like many other reviewers, we had our wedding cake from MIke’s and it was beautiful, relatively inexpensive for the quality and tasted delicious.
We were married in New Orleans, so we opted for an ivory cake with chocolate ‘trellis style detail’ on the outside, we got exactly what we hoped for and again, the cake tasted sooo good!
