These people are great people. I contacted them to see if they would help fix up kids bikes for my local christmas time charity toy shop, and without so much as a millisecond of hesitation they agreed and told me to bring all 30 bikes to their shop. They even helped us find helmets to go with the bikes. I’ve been into the shop regarding other bicycle matters as well and it’s very clear that these people know their stuff. Bicycles are their passion!

I’m a total newbie to the tri world and to ALL athletic endeavors, to be honest. I haven’t ridden a bicycle since I was 10, and my only bike«training» has been on stationery bikes at the gym. I figured it was time to get my cheap-o mountain bike tuned up, as I registered for the Danskin tri in a few weeks and I wanted to make sure my bike was safe to ride. That said, I didn’t want to spend more on the bike’s tune-up than I had on the bike itself(and I didn’t spend much ATALL on the bike, from Target!). I hesitantly e-mailed Mr. Crampy’s, outlining my situation and praying they wouldn’t be laughing at me through cyberspace. They responded promptly and respectfully, and they said they could tweak my bike for $ 35. I had looked online at other bike shops and I knew that this was a good deal. When I got to the store, Sean looked at my bike. He’s a seasoned triathlete and he didn’t mind me picking his brain. He adjusted my bike and had me ride alongside him, around the strip mall, and he showed me how to shift gears and explained my bike’s many moans and groans and clattering sounds. They kept my bike overnight, due to a wheel issue, but didn’t charge me more. I was really impressed by them. I also liked the diverse array of equipment they had in the shop, and how knowlegeable and friendly all the folks who worked here were. When I picked up my bike the next day, there were some hard-core bicycle dudes in the shop. This place obviously attracts some die-hard athletes. And for them to accept me in the fold and not look down at me because of my very-novice status and crappy bike, well, that speaks volumes. This is a great place.

Since the closure of Triumph Multisport in Leschi, the only tri shop in town(Seattle + the eastside) was Speedy Reedy which generally has terrible customer service(you won’t get acknowledged by a salesperson unless you immediately tell them you’re in the market for a new bike). The folks at Mr. Crampy’s are very helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. I was having some issues mounting a bike computer on my aero bars and they had the perfect solution and all the parts required. The shop is tucked away in a strip mall so you might not notice it, but they’re trying to establish market presence by sponsoring some local triathlons.

This review is solely based on the open water swim clinic they hold Sunday mornings — I must admit, I have yet to walk into the place! Awesome swim clinic! Great for both, novice and experienced swimmers. Sean was super helpful — the other volunteers were just as great! My BF and I, the only newbies this particular morning, were outnumbered by athletes prepping for the upcoming Ironman at Coeur d’Alene, so you could imagine how insecure we may have felt. But everyone there was very supportive and offered very helpful tips! They say newbies often freak out their 1st time swimming in open water… this was particularly true for me! Once my face hit the cold, cold water, my lungs stopped expanding, and it was as if I hadn’t ever swim-trained before! All the volunteers helped put me at ease. I am very thankful my 1st time swimming in open water was NOT on race day, as the BF& I had planned. I probably would have been disqualified(or worse, dead from drowning — haha!) I highly recommend people who are training for triathlons check out the open water swim clinics Mr. Crampy’s offers almost every Sunday morning at Beaver Lake. Whether you are a newbie or an experienced Ironman — this swim clinic is like no other! They get 5 stars just for offering the clinic for FREE(I heard Mary Meyer open water swim clinics are upwards of $ 80 for one clinic!) So, if you’re looking for an awesome swim clinic to prepare for an event, you will not be disappointed by this one! And, I will happily cross the 520 Bridge to shop for TRI gear at Mc Crampy’s — I’m sure their customer service is just as solid as their service at the swim clinic!(Review of the store coming soon!)

C’mon. By far the best bicycle/tri-sports shop in Redmond… maybe the whole Eastside. The owner is nice, knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. On multiple occasions he has tuned/fixed my old road bike without trying to suggest unnecessary parts or upgrades. This is always my test of a good shop… bring in a low margin repair job and see how the shop reacts. If they fix your bike without gouging your wallet(trying for the one-time hit) then they are a good for the long haul and get my recommendation and repeat business. Mr. Crampy’s passed with flying colors!
