I have lived in Redwood City a long time, passed by Carmen’s beauty salon, and had always been curious about it, so I decided to give it a try last year on my birthday. I came in when she was about to close, she stayed late to give me a haircut and style. When I told her it was my bday, she greeted me with a warm smile and hug! I had given Carmen minimal direction, yet my hair turned out just as I had wanted. She washed, cut, blow dried and styled my hair for a very reasonable $ 25(inc tip). Check out the photo I posted. I’ve gone back to Carmen since then. My birthday approaches in just a few days, and I’ve already booked my appt with her before I go out for the evening. As a friend said last year, I was the«Birthday Beauty», thanks to Carmen and her expert hair styling! I highly recommend her not only for a great haircut, but also for her warmth and kindness.

If you want a men’s hair cut ask for Nury or Carmen. Nury is the daughter of Carmen. She will have a dialog with you about how you like your hair, then she takes the time to do it right. She’s usually available Friday or Saturday. Nury has been cutting my hair and my friend’s hair for over 10 years. Recently she started cutting my nephew’s hair too. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. You can click into my pictures to see my hair cut.

I registered for a Unilocal account because of this place. I went in for a haircut and, as expected, I’m greeted, put on a seat, and asked for what I want(so one star well earned, so far). I explain to the lady how I wanted it(#2 on the sides to use her hands/scissors at the top, etc. because I don’t want it it too short. And to leave a little on the edges because I don’t like having a potato-head after a haircut). She goes to work scissoring the sides and everything in between for a while. Confused if this is just her new technique for prepping my head for the machine, I let her continue for a bit longer. Finally I tell her that I want a #2 on the sides. She says OK… and continues scissoring the top(all the while I’m still wondering… who scissors the top before the sides, anyway??). After some time cutting, it seems like she’s almost done… and I’m still confused. I ask her again, if she could do a #2 on the sides. She asks me, «I thought you don’t want it short?» — to which I replied…“well, on the top…”. She pulls out the clippers and finally starts getting the sides. Except, there is no #2…she just uses some comb to guide it all. OK, I think… she’s just prepping. But no, everything was done in this manner. Even the top. I start to feel a bit more confused/ansy/oh-fuck-this-is-going-to-be-fucked-up-but-really-how-fucked-up-could-it-possibly-be?. Finally, she finishes. Gels my hair. And asks for $ 20. I pay $ 20 only and leave. Feeling like an idiot, I put my hood on my head, and go home realizing, in the car, that she didn’t even cut my sideburns(wtf?). I don’t think I’ve ever had such a bad hair-cut in my life. And I’ve had plenty of bad cuts. Seriously guys, don’t come here. It’s not worth the money. My hair isn’t even cut evenly and its probably way too short to be salvaged at this point. This place is an utter disappointment.
