Please read all reviews first, dont let 4 stars fool you, they can pay Unilocal to get good reviews. Worst place i ate too. Food is thawed dumplings. Crappy service. They had a few violations from the city of san mateo for health codes. Said passed re inspection which means all health code violations were true.

I don’t understand how this place has four stars. The staff is rude and the dumplings are mediocre at best.

Small but popular Chinese place in RWC. I enjoyed the dumplings and dim sum, they do that just right. I was a bit disappointed in the noodle soup; they had nice long authentic style noodles but the pork and tofu was flavorless and dull. when I go back I think I will stay focused on the dumplings, that was the real stand out here. Gets very crowded around lunch time.

This is my go to dumpling place in Redwood City. It’s a tiny place, but worth waiting outside for. Soup dumplings and beef pancake(best fries beef quesadilla ever) are delicious!

Not a very inviting hole-in-the-wall BUT the food more than makes up for the poor service and long wait. We went there with two kiddies and all unanimously agreed that they serve THE best Taiwanese style chicken nuggets. The green onion pancake was very thin and light. The dumplings were also a hit and I much prefer these over kingdom of dumpling and all the other sunset places due to the light juiciness of both the pork/shrimp dumplings. The XLB is pretty good as well and though not the best I’ve had, could easily compete against the rest of the Bay Area dumpling houses. We will definitely be back.

Um… mouth watering deliciousness! Love at first taste! No REALLY. The shrimp, pork and chive dumplings are fresh and tasty! Back in kitchen — looks like grandmas/grandpas hard at work. Man do you taste their love and dedication for their food. QUALITY is key and they sure provide it. Other reviews say the service blows — but I think it kinda fits the spot well. Its like hi what would you like? Plain and simple. After that first order its kinda like — its up to you to get their attention. Thats all. For me its fine. Once i eat those dumplings I’m ALLGOOD. Eating in — Place is usually pretty packed in the evening. Ordering — GOODLUCK they don’t usually answer. I got lucky once but it was early afternoon on a Sat. FLATOUT — EATIT! YOUWONTREGRETIT.

COCKROACHES! I found a giant cockroach in my noodle soup today after eating about half of it. It’s absolutely disgusting. I walked out of there right away and I’m never going back. It’s such a shame because I really liked this place. Now I just want to throw up thinking about it.

This place is great. The dumplings are awesome and you get plenty for your money. The staff is friendly, and I’m definitely going to frequent this place. The look of the restaurant is meh… There’s a visible layer of crud on the ceiling fan, and the place is small. Great food. Not a place I would dine in. I would(and do) take out.

Had dumplungs, noodles and the onion bread. Food was good, not great. I feel like it was overpriced for what it was. Take $ 2 – 3 off per plate and it would be a 4 – 5 star hole in the wall. It was fairly busy when we got there and service suffered for it. Had to remind staff to get our tea and order.

I went here with my mom for lunch. As an aside, my taste and her taste are very different. With that, we ordered the #1 in the noodle soup section-spicy sliced beef, the shrimp and pork and chive dumplings, and soup filled dumplings. The soup bowls are huge and enough to share if you plan on ordering dumplings. Otherwise, one soup bowl would be enough as a meal. I was worried how spicy it would be but it was actually very tasty! The heat wasn’t excessive and the broth was very fragrant with chili peppers. Not too salty or anything. It was garnished with bokchoi, wood ear mushrooms, and sliced pork. I liked the noodles but my mom didn’t since she prefers them thin and al dente. These are the larger and softer type of noodle. Almost like a cross between egg noodles and rice noodles. I would order this again. The dumplings are delish. I don’t recommend the soup dumplings because I was disappointed by how little soup was in them and I’ve definitely had better elsewhere. The shrimp/pork/chive dumplings were great though. And you get 12 for $ 7. This place also seems to offer raw noodles and dumplings you can take and cook at home. The restaurant is tiny and there was a bit of a wait due to the lunch rush, but the line moved fairly quickly. Our waiter(perhaps the owner as well?) seemed very busy as he was the only one taking orders, busting tables, and bringing out food and checks. Regardless, we got our food and waters very quickly. Check it out if you’re having a craving for delicious dumplings. Parking is street only.

4.5÷5: The onion pancake is very good. Great snap, very good flavor. 3.5÷5: The XLB are OK. The wrapper doesn’t have enough snap. The pork is slightly below average. The soup has no savoriness. But, there is a good quantity of soup: it squirts out when you bite into it.

tldr; Solid Chinese comfort food! Their dumplings are delicious and if you pair it with an appetizer then it’s a home run! My favorite two items are the wood ear fungus with celery and the pork & chive dumplings. You can ask for complimentary hot tea or ice water. Their no-frills service is fast and you can always flag a waiter down if needed but otherwise they don’t come by your table other than to take your order, serve you food or get you to pay. Things I’ve gotten: == Apps == Fresh Cilantro Bean Noodle(4⁄5): I love bean curd so this hit the spot with it’s slight savoriness and sesame oil flavor. Some people might find it a bit bland and it could definitely use more cilantro. Wood ear fungus with celery(5⁄5): Loved this! It had a tangy vinegar and garlic dressing with celery pieces and huge wood ear fungus. Very flavorful dish that went wonderfully with the dumplings == Dumplings == Shanghai soup dumplings(xiao long bao)(4⁄5): These soupy buns were flavorful, soupy and held together when picked up from the steamer basket. The pork meat held together nicely and there was an ample amount of juice on the first bite. The one con is that the skin was a bit too thick and they could’ve added ginger to the vinegar dipping sauce. Pork and chive dumplings(4⁄5): There’s rarely a bad pork and chive dumpling. The pork was juicy and the chives added that extra punch and flavoring that made this hearty and delicious. Pork and napa dumpling(4⁄5): If you still want a pork dumpling but don’t like the taste of chives or just want a milder tasting dumpling then this is it. The pork flavor is quite overpowering so you barely taste the cabbage but maybe that’s an unfair comparison since cabbage is supposed to sit on the sidelines. Vegetable dumplings(2.5÷5): Unfortunately this was just too bland and dry for me. Maybe it’s because I’m used to the meat juices filling the dumpling but the mix of cabbage and tofu(?) in this wasn’t enough to piqué my interest. == Noodles == Spicy sliced beef noodle soup(2⁄5): I should’ve known to stick to dumplings given its namesake but I decided to be a bit more adventurous and it got me nowhere. While the noodles have a good texture(hence 2 stars) the soup is just a salted base with none of the beef flavor cooked in. It also wasn’t remotely spicy. A great disappointment given the quality of their dumplings. Beijing noodles(zha jiang mian)(2⁄5): For some reason this place just can’t do noodles right. The meat sauce didn’t have any meaty taste and was overly salty. The sauce didn’t seem to have any substance to it. If you’re a lover of this dish, don’t get it as you’ll be greatly disappointed.

This place is a solid four star place! Delicious food, friendly service despite being busy, great prices, and crowded space. Food: I came here with my dad and ordered Shanghai soup dumplings, green onion cake, and chicken dumpling with spinach. This place is adequately named, because out of all the dumplings I’ve ever had, these are my favorite. I liked these dumplings better than the soup dumplings I had in Shanghai! If you come here, you definitely need to order some sort of dumplings. Both dumplings were very flavorful, just made, and hot! They have a great selection of dumplings, so I’ll definitely be back to try some of the other ones. The green onion cake was unexpectedly very thin and I felt were small. They tasted around average, and therefore the dumplings were the highlight. Service: This was the only place on the street with a line out the door and tons of people waiting. And it was definitely worth the wait! You put your name down on the list and wait outside. We waited about 15 minutes, which wasn’t as long as I had anticipated. Also the entire restaurant had one server, so they were definitely short handed. But he handled all the orders in a timely fashion. He was friendly and efficient. Value: Great! You can check the prices, including the number of pieces that come in one serving, on the menus that other people have already posted.

I can’t get enough of this place and apparently, others can’t either. Service has really been declining lately. Phone calls go unanswered(have to go in to place an order) and sometimes noone acknowledges you when you walk in the door. The staff really seem overwhelmed :( I also know they’re on a couple of food delivery websites(one that we use routinely at work!) so that could explain the extra burden on the business(I love their food so much that I’m making excuses for them… tsk tsk). Their dumplings(esp the chicken spinach ones) are the BEST I’ve had in a restaurant. High quality ingredients and great price. I hope they get some additional help soon or open another location :)

This place is as authentic as it gets. The overall taste mimics exactly what my grandfather used to make for me when I was little. The restaurant can be a bit small so if you are coming for lunch during the lunch rush, make sure to either come a bit earlier or a bit later, or be prepared to wait. Most people come for the potstickers/dumplings but definitely try the stuffed pancakes/chive pockets or jiu cai he zi.

Just moved to RWC from SM /Belmont and very happy to find an authentic place to get Chinese food! My friend picked up takeout from here for us and said that while it was a hole in the wall, the price was reasonable and we very much enjoyed the food here, which is similar in style to authentic dumpling shops in the more Asian parts of the peninsula(i.e. Cupertino, San mateo). Ordering can also be a hassle because apparently the number listed for them is somebody’s cell phone, and often goes to a full voicemail. Just keep calling, you’ll eventually hit them. The in-store experience is eh. 1 star off for that. The place has TIGHT seating(basically, the aisle between the seats also is where the line for the register will be during peak hours). There is little parking in the area(probably better luck across the street alongside Sequoia HS). Service is also flaky, we asked for tea 3 times before we got the tea, and then a 4th time to get the cups. We also had to ask repeatedly for packing containers. Personally, I’d recommend calling it in or stopping in and ordering, going about your business, picking it up, and eating in the comfort of your own home where oxygen and elbow room isn’t a premium, lol. Recommendations: Shrimp, Pork and Chive Dumplings(my personal favorite — chewy skin and I enjoy this filling the most) Chicken Nuggets /Yan Su Ji plate(comes with marinated egg and pickled greens and rice. Crispy deep fried 5 Spice flavor!) Chive and Pork Dumplings Pork and napa dumplings Lamb Dumplings Beef Noodle Soup(1st one on list) — VERY spicy! My fiancé loved the broth and he is a spicy food fan) Zha Jiang Mian(yumm very garlicky and comes with cucumber on top) Meat pancake(like a scallion pancake with a flavorful ground meat filling! Has been sold out before if late in the evening) OK – soup dumplings. Small — soupy enough for the size, but not the best. Kung Pao Chicken(a little too greasy for us). Glad to see I won’t have to drive all the way back to SM for good Asian takeout on the weekend :)

Overall it was a good meal, but I probably won’t go back to RWC for another meal here. I tried all the recommended dishes and, although all were good, nothing really stood out. It was a very average restaurant meal. Food: 3.5 stars Ambience: 3 stars Service: 3.5 stars Here are the dishes I had: Shanghai Soup Dumpling or Xiao Long Bao(3.5 stars), Pork and Shrimp Dumpling with Green Chives(3 stars), Spicy Sliced Beef Noodle Soup(4 stars) and the Celery with Bean Stick(3.5 stars). As you can see, everything was average to solid in terms of flavor, the Celery with Bean Stick was refreshing after a hike and the dumplings were satisfying, though OK. The Beef Noodle Soup had very good flavor, but the noodles were not great, bringing the overall dish down a bit.

Yummy!!! Delicious noodles and soup at really affordable price! Decided to pop by this Chinese noodle shop prior to my dental appointment and i am glad I did! A rather tiny outlet, so you might need to wait a bit especially if your group is big. They have a clipboard by the door to write down your name and group size. I ordered a Pork Noodles at $ 7.45. Came promptly, it was pipping hot and was shock to see such a huge bowl. Siping the soup while I let my food cool a little, it was heavenly. Despite the hot weather, the strong air conditioning inside this little outlet makes drinking hot soup awesome. Service was prompt and friendly. Traffic moves retry fast in this shop and do expect to possibly share tables with others too. Every table seem to have ordered their dumplings. I was alone and was not that hungry to have a bowl of noodles and dumplings. Well, gives me the perfect reason to come back again! Highly recommended. Parking lots and bike parking just outside. Convenient!

5 Star Food, 1 Star Service = 3 Stars FOOD: The dumplings were great and the best thing they have, hence the name of the restaurant! It may be the best dumpling I have ever tasted. They have a pretty traditional menu, so that made it more exciting. The menu is small, but everything on it seems authentic. You hear Chinese speakers around you so this kind of confirms the food is that authentic and good. SERVICE– I have been here many times, and the service is bad consistently. When I ask for more water it is almost like I am asking for a kidney. One time the waiter even stopped me and told me that I was ordering too much food and that he would not allow me to order more. I was a little offended. Even though my friend and I are small, we have healthy appetites and left hungry that night. AMBIANCE– there is typically a wait here because restaurant is popular and they don’t have too many tables. Reminds me of a little old diner inside.
