I’m not sure that I visited the same place as KQN, since we did order upfront, paid and then sat down to wait for our food. I wouldn’t call it extremely nice. It’s a hole in the wall with a handwritten menu posted above. I did see two ladies cooking though. And plastic flowers. Anyway, the complimentary chips and salsa were both very good(the chips weren’t greasy and they tasted fresh). I had a chicken burrito(regular) which came with rice and beans and even better, grilled(vs. shredded and stewed) chicken. Cubes of chicken. It was a good chicken burrito. The chicken was nice but could have had more grilled flavor. I didn’t like the taste of the tortilla and I’m not sure why(lard?). I definitely needed salsa and there was no salsa bar. I need a tub of salsa and I can’t give a place five stars unless it provides ample amounts of salsa. But they do give you more salsa if you ask for it. Update: I added a star for their $ 1 tacos with your choice of meat. What a deal. I ordered the slighter fancier tacos with beans(good plump, firm pinto beans), salsa and lettuce. I had the lengua and barbacoa(spicy beef). Both were very good — good quality of meat, not tough, flavorful. It came with a tasty green salsa. I had the super quesadilla and LOVED it. Comes with lots of fresh avocado, cream, salsa fresca, cheese, hot sauce. Truly delicious. They also serve tortas and sopes, and they have daily specials. Liking this place more and more… and you can catch up on your Mexican soap operas while you eat. Update: They CLOSED :-(

After having hit some disappointing taquerias in the area, I think I’ve found my current defacto work taqueria. I know there are an assload of «Grullenses» out there(in fact I noticed one 2 blocks away after I ate here) of varying quality so we’ll see how this place stands up. The place is new and nice for a taqueria. It’s bordering on sit down restaurant. Most of the taquerias I’m used to have folding chairs, lawn chairs, benches and folding tables. Not this place. New wooden chairs/tables and probably one of the only taquerias I’ve been where I didn’t stand in line and pay first. The guy who worked there was friendly and attentive. He took our orders and then checked up with us during the meal. My co-worker went for the three chicken enchiladas verde while I went for a five taco spread of chorizo, asada, carnitas, lengua, and barbacoa. Co-worker loved his enchiladas and felt the rice/beans were also very tasty. All my tacos were very tasty with only the barbacoa being somewhat average. Their homemade salsa is also somewhat unique though not as spicy as I would like. Even the chips and salsa they served before had had nice texture and flavor. Everything was extremely fresh and there two ladies in the back constantly cooking and preparing in the back. Seems that they also open for breakfast and have a number of daily and weekend specials to boot. Since they just opened there’s not a whole lot of traffic yet but they’re off to a good start. Hopefully they can keep the quality up and get more traffic.
