The Bake Shoppe

$ 7.50 for a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel. It was a microwaved egg with one small piece of bacon. $ 2.50 for a medium coffee that tasted like dirty water with hazelnut mixed in. I don’t like hazelnut. I probably won’t be going back.

The last time we had been at Rehoboth Beach, the spouse had seen advertised that The Bake Shoppe had the best doughnuts in town, but the line was out the door so we had gone to the Fractured Prune instead on our way home. So fastforward to this year’s beach trip, we were ready to partake in some awesome sugary doughnut action. Some time has passed since when we had them and when I’m reviewing, so I’m doing a little bit of a disservice to The Bake Shoppe, but that being said, the doughnuts were good, but not really memorable. We do remember the Fractured Prune doughnuts two years later though, so there’s that.

They didn’t have nonfat milk so we had to go to a different coffee place.

Cake review– Ordered a cake for my mom’s birthday during our beach week. The cake was moist, delicious, cream cheese icing on point. Also adorably decorated. If you are looking for a great non-​grocery chain cake come here. Also reasonably priced. Small 2 layer 7in cake with great beach decorations only $ 20. And seriously it was so damn good. Like roll your eyes back and bang your fist on the table good. I ordered it one day out based on Unilocal reviews and was not disappointed.

I’ll split the difference and give them 3 stars. We’ve purchased baked goods from here before while on vacation in the past, and it was worthy of 4 stars. However, EVERYTHING we bought this morning was beyond stale. I’m sure what we bought probably tasted fantastic on Saturday. However, today is Tuesday. Easy 2 stars for what we bought this morning. I doubt we’ll be going back.

Not as good as it used to be … the coffee crumble cake was more crumble than cake. Fresh, though, as was the cheese Danish.
Expensive (well, overpriced. $ 7 for a breakfast sandwich?).
This place is acceptable but I think I’d go to The Point if I had a choice.

A quintessentially perfect American bakeshop. The husband and wife owners are there bright and early baking muffins pastries cost saw and brewing extra great coffee. The staff is very sweet. Whether you want gluten-​free or high sugar this breakfast place is sure to delight. To go is a must and sit on a bench and watch the people g by. o

Wow! This is amazing. Had the coconut donut with custard filling. Ready to go back later for a cinnamon bun

We gave this place several shots and I must say pastries, not their strong suit. We tried cinnamon rolls, donuts and chocolate croissant. The croissant was probably the worst I’ve ever had and went straight in the trash. Angel cream is pure shortening with a hint of sugar and took 10 minutes to wash off of our hands. Chocolate cream filled was actually custard so that went in the trash. (We asked twice if it was angel cream or custard and were told angel cream because we’re not custard folk)
I will vouch for those chocolate fudge cakes on the cover photo. Holy crap those were good! So for us, chocolate cakes get the thumbs up. The rest of the pastries… no thanks. We’ll leave ‘em for the locals.

The whole wheat bagel is good, but I gently had to call the preparer /​cashier on not washing his hands after the previous transaction that involved cash, before handling my bagel with his bare hands.
While he did prepare a new one for me, he called me over to hand it to me, and told me «Get out of here, son.»
Wow. Seriously? That’s seriously messed up.
Hygiene problems and hate are a bad mix.

Always known for pies. Cakes. Muffins! Chocolate croissants. These people work very hard from recipes past down. Little commercialization used. Don’t DD. DoBakeShoppe.

Powdered eggs and one counter person for a holiday rush? No thanks. I don’t want to spend 20 minutes of this beautiful weather waiting for the girl to serve the person in front of us. That is literally how long it took to handle one customer. Thank, no thanks, I’ll go to the funny Russian kids at the Dunkins a block down and get my order faster and with better brew.

My favorite.bakery. period. Amazing sticky buns. You need to ge there before 930 to have the amazing selection. The line goes out the door… it really is that good! Cinanmon raisin sticky bun… i buy a brick before i leave town ro freeze… yes, they are that good.

Delicious pastries and good selection. The babkas and chocolate croissants are great.
BUT, we got a black and blue muffin today (blackberry and blueberry) and there was a gross long hair in it! BAKER, PLEASE WEAR A HAIRNET!

Best baked goods in town, arguably the tri-​state region. Owner and staff are friendly, and always giving kids a free cookie. Line can sometimes be outside the door, but it moves quick, and the cheese Danishes are worth it! I’m surprised there aren’t more reviews here on Unilocal,but ever since Fuddy Duddys closed, this place owns the bakery and breakfast treats market in my book.

The Bake Shoppe was great. We were looking for a wedding cake and decided to try their options… yellow, red velvet but our absolute favorite was chocolate. We ordered chocolate cake with chocolate fudge filling (omg to die for) with their buttercream which is so fluffy and sweet its my new husbands favorite! The cake was done to our every request from the purple ribbon to the white chocolate sea shells. We are looking forward to ordering again soon!

Solid baked goods while in Rehoboth. Cash and credit accepted. A great morning stop off in Rehoboth for baked pastries and particularly the coffee cake. Coffee itself is a bit Americanized but is generous.
They do serve breakfast sandwiches (egg sausage etc…) but there’s no griddle so it’s nuked.
Also the bread that is here is also quite decent. A good Italian roll, and a Garlic Mozarella I’ve had so far have hit the spot nicely (the Garlic-​Mozarella bread was rolled).
A good morning ritual worth visiting for take home chomping. The guy who runs this place is a trip, if a bit surly at first but he’s easy to get used to.

I called The Bake Shoppe a month ahead to order a small, 2-​tier cake for my parents’ anniversary party. The woman I spoke to on the phone was perfectly nice during that call, and we agreed on an orange cake with yellow flowers for the day of the anniversary.
Things didn’t get weird until I called back three weeks later to change the flower color.
ME: Hi, I ordered a 2-​tier anniversary cake for next Friday, and I’d like to change the frosting flower color.
MAN ON PHONE: I don’t see that order. Name?
(I give it to him.)
MAN: Nope, nothing. Who’d you speak with?
ME: I’m not sure, but it was a woman.
MAN (talking to a woman in the background): She says you took the order.
WOMAN (incensed): Why’re you trying to PIN this on ME?!? I know NOTHING about this! Just because I’m the only woman here, you just ASSUME it was me.
MAN (to me): Sorry, we don’t know what you’re talking about.
(I try giving more details, while the muttering and rustling in the background continue for a few minutes.)
MAN (eventually): Wait, an orange cake?
ME: Yes, for a 45^th wedding anniversary.
MAN: Yeah, we’ve got that order. Hold on.
(doesn’t cover phone)
WOMAN (in background): I am NOT taking that phone. You can just forget it! Not doin’ it!
MAN (eventually, to me): What did you want changed?
ME: I’d like the frosting flowers to be blue instead of yellow. Like a sapphire blue, if possible, not a baby blue.
WOMAN (in the background, belligerent): She can have blue, but it’s not gonna be sapphire blue!
(I confirm the pickup time and hang up.)
The cake turned out fine, with sapphire blue flowers no less. It wasn’t wonderful but it wasn’t bad. Kind of grocery store-​like flavor and texture, especially the icing.
Aside from the cake itself, maybe just a smidge of work on the customer service might be in order… and, just for kicks, a phone with a «hold» button?
Side note: I bumped up the rating by 1 star because the 2-​tier cake was only $ 40. At least they don’t overcharge!

This place is totally legit. It’s a great bakery. You want it, they’ve got it and the folks there are first class all the way as well.
We’ve bought muffins, breads, pies and other goodies from them it’s all first rate.
They open at 6:30AM so you can pop in early to pick up stuff for breakfast, pick up your papers and you’re set for the day.

Needed a cake for Moms birthday. Something besides the store brought Giant brand. This place had very good reviews. Placed my order and picked it up next day. Cake was very moist with a pretty edible beach scene. Kids loved it! Definitely get a cake here for any celebration. You won’t be disappointed!
