This place is truly phenomenal. You rarely find genuine casual dining Italian restaurants. All of the dough from the pizza to the rolls are handmade from the special family recipe and it shows. The pizza is some of the best you’ll ever have guaranteed. Their subs have fresh homemade baked bread from a family recipe.

As an East coast transplant, I am always looking for a good NY pizza jointand I was excited and intrigued when I heard about this place. I’ve tried to like Nu Yalk a few times. Nu Yalk is decent, but I feel it’s gone a little downhill since moving from Moana. Paulie’s Pizza was excellent, but unfortunately recently closed down(and was more Central NY style) hopefully they’re back soon. However, I was extremely impressed by Peluso’s Pizza; it reminds me of the New Haven style pizza I had growing up. How did it take me so long to realize this was in Reno? The ingredients are fresh, the crust is perfect, the mozzarella is legit, the service is fast, everything I can ask for(wish there was beer and wine though) I’ve had their pizza a few times; next up will be their subs and grinders.

Only place I’ve found that serves a chicken parmesan hot sandwich in Reno– and they are so good! The bread is perfect!

3.5 stars I tried their combination pizza and the popular clam florentine. I liked the clam pizza more than the combination. Chewy crust, flavorful, generous amount of clams, pretty much what I had expected. It was good, and I don’t really like clams. I notice it didnt come with as much spinach as the other ones pictured on Unilocal! The combination pizza had good flavor, but the crust was flimsy and a bit soggy. It could have been from the car ride home, but I doubt it. It was a short drive. Maybe it would be good to ask for extra crispy crust? The pizza was ready at the time quoted. No condiments included inside the box. It wasn’t offered or visible on the counter. So ask for it if needed.

When I heard about this place, I knew I was gonna like it. Thin, crust New York style pies made with love basically. Unless your gonna Make it to NuYalk pizza way down in south Reno, this is the only place that does it right any where close to downtown. I haven’t tried the subs or sandwiches yet because their pizza is so dang good. I wish they had a larger size pie, a public restroom or someplace to wash hands and reusable water glasses. My recommendation of a pepperoni and mushroom, cooked a little crispy is perfect for a party of two, I want more pizza now.

This place is really yummy. Pizza is great and the Caesar salad is amazing. I hope this restaurant sticks since I’ve seen so many restaurants come and go in this location.

If you’re looking for NY style pizza, this is the real thing. Straight from Long Island. My Queens raised husband and I have been looking for the real thing ever since we moved West in 1973. Finally found it in this humble Reno place.

Peluso’s Apizza is a fantastic lunch spot which has the best meatball sandwich I’ve found so far in Reno. I’ve been a few times and each time I’ve gotten a different sandwich, and all of them were fantastic. I haven’t ordered a pizza yet because I always go in on my lunch break and I’m not sure how long the pizza will take, but I would like to try one soon. Last time I ordered a meatball and was very impressed. The bread was fantastic, crunchy on the outside, and gooey with melted cheese on the inside. The sauce was flavorful, and the meatballs were plentiful with great texture and flavor. My sandwich was about $ 9 with a tip, and was a very good size. The décor is sparse, but I like the no frills pizza joint feel. The staff has always been very nice, and the wait has never been too long. Overall I really enjoy Peluso’s and will be back soon.

Just down the street and finally got in to try it. Tons of choices as the huge menu is in the wall when you walk in. We by passed the sandwich offerings as we wanted pizza that night. We settled on the combo that had lots of toppings. But did it have too many? The crust was a little soggy in the middle and everything fell of when you tried to pick it up. The pizza was plenty hot though, it was tough to pick up it was so nice and piping hot. I would like to go back and try a white sauce pizza that looked good before I make a final decision on this spot. It’s tiny, only about four tables. I imagine most of their business is carry out, but I dislike pizza after it has had a car ride. I want it hot out of the oven. It was scream spot and the staff was great.

11/06/2015 — Friday night at 8:15PM Atmosphere — 3⁄5 Service — 4⁄5 Food — 3⁄5 The cashier was pretty friendly but the pizza and the shop itself just weren’t my scene. The menu was a little hard to read. We went on a Friday night and it was completely dead. However, the lobby is so tiny that a couple customers later and it seemed busy because there’s only 3 tables. We had the misfortune of having someone with a severe case of B.O. sit behind us too which soured our appetite. I had the Italian Cheese Melt. It tasted like a hot pocket, which was not to my liking. The cheese and the dough had a good quality to them but the sauce was too sweet and didn’t taste good. I disliked the pizza itself. I ordered a 14 inch Combo without sausage and substituted onions instead of the sausage. They put a TON of onions on the pizza… which is great because I love onions, however the quality of the onions was a little poor. I could see and taste a lot of the outer layer of the onion on much of the pizza. The quality on everything else seemed pretty good, except for once again the sauce. I disliked the pizza because the crust wasn’t able to hold the toppings. It cooked too quickly on the top so I ended up with a soggy pizza. I also took a bite out of a piece that had a pretty charred end to it which left a bitter taste in my mouth for quite a while. The shop doesn’t have a soda fountain and they charge $ 1.25 for a can of soda. I was somewhat dissatisfied with that. One final note I’d like to add is that they charge 50¢ for a 2 ounce ranch cup, and $ 6 for a pint of ranch. So a pint is 16 ounces, which means it takes eight 2 ounce cups to fill a pint, which is $ 4. …How does that make sense? Overall it was an okay experience but I won’t be back unless it’s for an appetizer.

Peluso’s make good pizza with thin crust and an emphasis on really good dough and quality ingredients. The price can get up there making the value the only detractor, but you are buying a good pie and it generally matches the level of the product. The other day, I had my first sub sandwich, and it was also very good. I’ll probably be getting more of those going forward. Give these guys a try if you haven’t already. If you live anywhere near them, you know how good it is to have a good pizza place in the ‘hood. Let’s make sure these guys stick around!

I have eaten Peluso’s a couple more times and I don’t feel the value holds up comparatively to so many other options. I got a combo yesterday(Friday) and it was okay, just like the times before, but for the price point it’s disappointing. The crust rules and is 5 stars, but that’s not enough for an expensive pie, that leaves you hungry. The combo I got today was $ 9.35 plus tax so over $ 10 for a 9 inch pie. Since I used the word comparatively, I can get AYCE Round Table buffet for some solid fresh made pizza, twists and full salad bar for $ 8.08 with tax, $ 5 Little Caesar’s x 2 pizzas, + any large Papa Murphy’s(Take and Bake). So hard to pay more for so much less considering that the only thing better here is the crust, which is great, but not a MUSTHAVE all the time and at ANYCOST! The toppings are just okay, didn’t care for sausage, cheese okay, nothing screams wow, I don’t think anything is organic, so you can’t justify that either and lastly the toppings are very limited on what you can get. The combo isn’t my ideal combo, and only had a few ingredients vs the kitchen sink at most places. I like Peluso’s but I will I reserve my eating for special occasions when I need to eat a good crust and just an okay pizza paying and don’t mind the aggressive pricing.

The Hunt for the perfect pizza, chapter 16. Pelusos Apizza located on california near reno high. The location is tucked away off california next to a dry cleaners. It is a fairly small pizza restaurant, with three tables inside and two outside. We were greeted promptly and ordered a medium combo. My wife wanted ice tea which comes only in a bottle and i wanted a diet coke which comes only in cans. No soda machine. The pizza itself looked fantastic when presented to us, you could smell the pepperoni and sausage and the mozzarella was melted into a heavenly gooey mixture with the olives and mushrooms and romano cheese. My heart was racing, could this be the perfect pizza. The crust was thin with a brown edge, not burnt. As I reached for my first slice and pulled it off the tray something aweful happened, something so incredibly horrific the voices in my head e ere screaming NO! All of the toppings came off including the cheese so what i was left with was a naked piece of pizza. I stared at it and thought how could that happen. I scooped up all the gooey love and put it on the pizza in a mound and proceeded to eat it. I proceeded to the second piece with caution and gingerly and carefully lifted a piece off, i supported both the tip and back. I thought, yeah i did it. Wh ere n i went to take a bite i released the tip and all the toppings promptly released all over the table. I quickly came to a realization that there is a high amount off fat and grease on this pizza. I talked to the owner and he said the toppings are like a blanket, they should come off. Really? The pizza was very good tasting, when scooped off the table. I found out from the owner that the recipe is from his dad who lived in southern italy, around the naples region. He called this a working mans pizza, his dad would bake for the workers in the fields. I really can not say we will be back, until i know the toppings have 4WD and do not slip off.

I has the opportunity to try their pizza to go last night. Walking in it was reminiscent of my childhood growing up in NY. Entire menu on the right wall as you walk in. Staff was friendly and I ended up ordering a 16″ Pepperoni, mushroom, extra cheese to go. From start to finish it took about 15 minutes. I placed it in the car and rushed home to taste the cheesy goodness. The sauce was good, but I thought it could benefit with some Italian seasoning and red pepper flake.(I did see that roasted garlic could be added, but for the initial pizza I passed). The crust was exactly like growing up in NY.(Super thin, good flavor, a bit charred, crisp, but still can be picked up and folded like NY pizza should be.) All in all any pizza that can transport me back 40 years gets five stars! I did see that they do cannolis and i’ll have to give those a go on the next time in.

March 24, 2015 Friday 5PM dinner 2 Adults Atmosphere — 5 stars Food — 5 stars Service — 5 stars Background — I need some pizza and wanted to try a new place. Okay new to me. Cleary Peluso’s has been here for a while. Atmosphere — Super tiny place, three tables inside and two outside. I do not think that matters as we were the only ones dining in. People came and went, and it was a steady flow. I am thinking their subs or grinders must be awesome as every single order to go had them, some with pizza. Food Drinks — Not a big selection, and no beer. I had a can of Coke. Main Course — The Nero, and it was not burnt. I had the 9″ Nero which is pepperoni and sausage pizza and my wife wanted to go veggie and I did not see any I liked. 9″ was perfect for me. Okay the pizza was too. Service — Greeted when we came in the door, he had to wait as we were debating the menu on the wall. We walked a little college basketball while they cooked our pizza. They brought it out to us. Not like we had to give our names. Future — Sure!

Clam florentine pizza: great cook on the crust, nice and crispy. Lots of clams and perfect amount of garlic, very tasty. Chewed on some grit, yuck. Cannoli: not too sweet, should have ordered two for me. Yum.

Pete, the owner of Peluso’s, was born in Italy, and as a child, had always been curious about food. He learned cooking from his grandmother, mother, and father, and travelled Italy with his family learning how different regions all did things their own way. When Pete’s family immigrated to the US, they settled in Connecticut, where his uncle learned to be a baker, perfecting the crust, breads, and many of the other recipes he still uses today at Peluso’s. So you see, the secret to Peluso’s amazing pizza and Italian food isn’t really a secret at all. It’s just a combination of the Peluso Italian family heritage, traditions and recipes, combined with lots of hard work and decades spent learning to prefect the craft of baking. The result is possibly pizza perfection, and since the first bite I’ve been left craving the next! Peluso’s menu is complete with pizza by the slice, make your own, or specialty pies in a variety of sizes, grinders(sub sandwiches) served on their house made bread, cannolis, and even a few salads. In addition, he usually has a daily special or two on the chalkboard. I couldn’t make up my mind between the pizza and the eggplant parm grinder special that day, so I was fortunate enough to have a friend willing to share them both. We got the Nero pie in the 9″ personal size, which has pepperoni, sausage, mozzarella and red sauce. The 9″ is about 4 small slices, and the perfect size for one alone, or to share with a friend having something else. Lets start with the pie from the bottom up. The bottom of the crust is crispy and crunchy, with just a slight char from the pizza oven that adds a great flavor. The top of the crust is light, moist and airy, with a slight chew. The edges of the crust are subtle, but make a nice wall to hold everything in, leaving something to snack on once you’ve gotten there! The sausage was a nice loose crumble with great flavor and texture from the hot oven. None of the weak sliced or prefab stuff you get from chain pizzas here! And the pepperoni was, well, pepperoni. But the red sauce! Oh the red sauce! This stuff is the stuff dreams are made of folks! Perfectly balanced, not too sweet, not too spicy, just a good solid«gravy» that really amps up the flavors of the great tomatoes he uses to make it. I could bathe in this sauce, and probably will at a later date! I’d eat a shoe covered in it for sure! By my definition, this pizza was perfect and I can’t wait to enjoy another one soon. My friends who I was with don’t really eat bread very often and this had them swooning. There are two clam pies, totally east coast, on the menu that are calling to me, and I must get back to try one ASAP. Almost forgot, GET A CANOLI! Creamy mascarpone, flavored with vanilla and citrus zest make the perfect light end to the meal. The location is a little out of the way, but this place is worth your patronage! Support this business so he can expand and get another location more central for us all!
