This is the second time I’ve been here and it is quickly becoming one of my favorites. We drive from Sparks just to enjoy their sushi. The server was great and the food came out very quickly. It’s not super busy, which is perfect because I think this helps with the quality of the rolls. The size of the pieces of the rolls actually fit into my mouth. I say this because many places make the pieces so big that I either gag on them or have to eat one piece in several bites and that makes it messy. My absolute favorites are the Cotton Candy roll, Big Bang roll and the Snow White Nigiri. The Cotton Candy is so moist yet has a crunchy texture as well. You’ll also have to try the crunchy mussels. They were delicious! Try this place!

One day I was curious and looked up sushi on Unilocal and saw Pisces come up. Soon I saw the K-pop(bulgogi roll) and the Rodeo(spam) rolls I really had to give this place a try. Being from Hawaii, not used to seeing a sushi place up here with bulgogi or especiallly spam lol. Came in and those two and the other sushi I tried were amazing! Loved the atmosphere and the staff were very friendly! Would highly recommenf this place and I most likely will return!

Really good sushi. Not to much rice and they serve great traditional dishes, as well as the fancy sushi rolls.

There’re so many options when it comes to AYCE Sushi in Reno, so when I asked a local they suggested us to try the new Pisces Sushi. Once you walk in your quickly greeted and asked if you would like to sit at the sushi bar or table. We opted for a table since our party was big. Service was spot on in regards to getting our drinks started and asking if we were having the AYCE option or ordering ala-carte. If you like tea you gotta have their brown rice green tea. Very yummy in flavor. Kinda like a Korean tea but less toasty. They had Cajun Seared Tuna that was a must try for us, it was different from the seared tuna I’m use to but I must say it was very good. Next we opted for rolls as Reno is famous for the presentation of rolls as they don’t have that many fresh items as we’re used to in the Bay Area, but non the less it was presented very nicely. Our favorites were: Golden Gate Crystal Roll Blue Moon Sunflower I personally don’t like cream cheese in my sushi but hey if others like it, kudos to them. I prefer to opt it out and the dish was awesome. I love sushi so when the rolls came out nice and small vs other AYCE that have an abundance of rice, this was a nice change. Items that were least favorite were: The Green Apple Roll — it was very different to say the least. I’d say I’m not a fan of sweet sushi but hey give it a try and see for yourself. To me it reminded me of Halloween in which it tasted like a candy apple and the orange reminded me of pumpkins. Lol… The miso soup — I love miso but all I got was miso. It was so salty that Me So Not wanted to drink it. The Cotton Candy — if you like baked rolls this was ok but it depended on the chef. The first one we order the chef was very heavy handed in the sauce and the roll was swimming in it, I had to use a spoon to eat it.(A first for me) My late arrival party came and ordered another one and it came out with less sauce and it was much better.(We did not mention anything about the first roll swimming.) The baked diced scallops were still very good. All in all a great experience. Nice ambulance with TV’s so you can watch your favorite sports.((Go WARRIORS)) Good service very attentive.(She was cute too.) Great sushi that needs minor adjustments in some areas of consistency but stellar as far as AYCE. Will definitely be back when I’m back to town visiting the family and the rents!

Pisces gets some really great reviews, but this AYCE option on South Meadows seemed to not be speaking my language during my recent attempt at trying a new place. The service was good, but I generally wasn’t super excited about what they were offering. Fish here was about standard for Reno with regards to freshness and flavor, but wasn’t really a shining star among all of the other options we have available to us. There was a decent ratio of rice to fish, but that doesn’t really matter if the rice falls apart as you dip it into your soy sauce/wasabi sludge. They do have a ton of options with regards to appetizers and the cajun tuna is a really nice change of pace. In addition, spicy tuna is usually chopped so fine it becomes almost more of a paste, but Pisces left the pieces slightly larger giving it a better texture. While there were some positives, definitely avoid the green apple roll – it has a weird texture, not very good flavor, and the pieces of salmon along the top are so thin that you can barely taste them. So overall, not terrible, but not super motivating to go back either.

We went to Pisces a little after they reopened on a Saturday. It took a little while to get a table but they immediately gave us drinks and order slips. The service was a little slow but when we ordered, the sushi chefs were extremely fast. We received our sushi just as fast as if we were sitting at a bar. The sushi was amazing. They had many different types of rolls that were all great! Their appetizers were also just as amazing as their sushi. I highly recommend this place if you are okay with slower service for amazing sushi.

Best sushi place so far in the Reno/Sparks area. Very artfully crafted rolls. Hard to decide what to get, because I don’t have room for everything that looks good! Almost downgraded to a 4-star review because the waiter/waitresses were so inattentive. I’m trying to be understanding because they were tied up with a very large group reservation, but they should not have ignored the other customers. Incredible sushi!

Went here for the first time on Sunday, 2÷21÷16, to enjoy the Reno Foodies FB page Get Together put together by Annie Christian. When we arrived, the entire Sushi counter was occupied by the Reno Foodies group. Great to put faces to the names I see online! The staff went out of their way to accommodate us… great service. Annie had worked out a flat rate deal with Pisces for $ 30 each, including tip… we were a little surprised to learn that the flat rate didn’t include any drinks(soda/ice tea/etc…), but, it wasn’t a big deal. Tony was our Sushi chef and he was very welcoming & attentive. We worked our way through a variety of appetizers. Since it’s been a few weeks since we went and I can’t find a copy of their menu online, I don’t remember exactly which ones we tried, but, they were all good! Had my usual assortment of Nigiri, all fresh & tasty. The rice was proportionate to the size of the fish… not too much & not too little. The long rolls we tried were good, as well. When we reached dessert, we were surprised by the talents of the chefs, who made very inventive designs(see attached photos). It’s a little out of our way, being that we live about a half hour away on the other side of town, but, if the occasion presents itself, we’d go here again!

Friendly service; clean interior; food was okay! Menu tonight: 1) Miso Soup: bland; 2) Seaweed Salad: pleasant sweet standard taste; 3) Pisces Roll: shocked of the awfully sweetness of the sauce, and, yikes, shrimp shells were mixed into the roll; 4) Caterpillar Roll: too much rice in proportion to the slivers of kani and unagi; and, 5) Seafood Udon: overcooked bits of seafood in a seasoned broth with nicely cooked udon! Cheers!

Pisces sushi is still my number one go to sushi house in Reno, even after trying the new openings of other places in town. I’m finding the fish quality and knife skills of the chefs here are just better than the other places I’ve tried. Seems a lot of other agree with me, which brings me to the big news here. With so many others finding out that Pisces Sushi is the best place to come, it’s getting CROWDED in here! Even the usually slower lunch(priced $ 17.95), is getting quite busy. Sitting at the bar, I can watch as the chefs are all going full speed boogie to keep up with the table orders as well as the customers sitting right in front of them. This is obviously a good thing for the business, more customers, but for me, I’m losing my own private sushi chef, making me off menu items and taking super focused care in each piece of art he makes for me. I get he’s gotta keep up with the demand of all the other customers, but gone are the slower days when Pisces Sushi just opened. Business is picking up as word spreads. You should see the knife fly on that chef, cutting rolls, wham wham wham, and done. Don’t get me wrong, the quality of the sushi is still there, maybe not the exact artistry and precision that can be had during slower times, but still better than some of the assembly line production I’ve seen at other places in town, using pre sliced fish and avocado sliced ready in Saran wrap, ready to plop right on top of that roll you ordered. The slower times are when I’ll come here now, 11am at opening or 3pm after the lunch rush. That way I get back to my non rushed focused sushi chef using his artistic talent for my creations. At prime times, I even see a waiting line for seating, but it’s worth it if that’s the only time you can come here. For service,(still better to sit at the bar), fish quality, and skilled chefs, Pisces is the place to come in Reno. It’s locally owned and not a chain like that other place in town with 3 or 4 locations. I was sitting at the bar last visit and met some first time customers who were totally impressed, so it’s not just me. If you haven’t tried Pisces, give it a try!

Big thanks to Annie C for putting together«Reno Foodies Sushi getogether.» Pisces Sushi is located in the back corner of a strip mall on Double R just across the street from Renown Hospital. It’s behind the Smith’s if you’re familiar with that neighborhood. Pisces was very generous to the Reno Foodies; offering us Hamachi collar, tuna poke salad, and salmon on salmon nigiri in addition to their AYCE menu. The chefs and staff went out of our their way to make us feel welcomed even though there were other guests(non-Reno Foodies) in the restaurant. The good: AYCE lunch is $ 17.95(until 4 pm) and for dinner it is $ 22.95 — great timing for a late lunch! Über friendly staff Large sushi bar seating plus tables that can accommodate 2 people to large parties Location is close to shopping and the hospital(yes, I believe sushi is much better than hospital food!) Large selection of apps on the AYCE menu The tempura bananas with cream(included with AYCE) seemed to be crowd pleaser but I was too stuffed to try it. Decent rice to fish ratio. My favorite roll was the Dynamite Roll — listed on the menu as tuna with peppers. It was eye watering spicy but I really enjoyed the cleanness of the roll. No sauce, perfect amount of rice, and a great spicy kick. If you’re not a fan of spice don’t even think of trying this roll! The not so good: Too far away for me to become a regular or do another tasting anytime soon.

As all the renoites here know, there is an abundance of All you can eat sushi restaurants. So what happens when there are so many competitors? Well, you better be the best at it all! The size of fish to rice ratio, the flavors, the different varieties of rolls, the different accommodations for everyone out there that can’t eat seaweed or is on a diet so brown rice or no rice etc! Unfortunately, since there are so many sushi restaurants here in Reno this was one of them that wasn’t all that fascinating. The service was nice but when we sat down we waited for someone to ask us what we wanted until I had to ask a chef that wasn’t our chef and then our chef overheard and said oh I can help you?! I was like oh ok. But you were standing there for awhile with is sitting here waiting to order? Anyway my first experience here, although I don’t see myself driving all the way across town for a place that didn’t wow me. For all you sushi lovers out there you know what I mean by the wow every bite of sushi you eat is like an art and just melts in your mouth. The flavors all put together just come together as one big flavor and you just crave it more and more. My husband and I, well we were craving sushi for awhile and was so excited to come to a Reno foodies get together. For the price of $ 30 for all you can eat including appetizer and dessert and tip. I guess that was a good deal but a lot of places are very similar in price. After we ate we didn’t feel satisfied like we normally do. I feel sad to leave an a-ok review, but the service could have been a tad better and the fish to rice ratio was not worth it. They had all the same desserts like all the other sushi places. Well not all of the other ones but most. The Mochi the ice cream and the deep fried banana with ice cream. If I’m in the neighborhood is come back, but I would drive here if we decided to have sushi for lunch or dinner.

First, thanks Annie C for organizing Reno Foodies Sushi get together. This was my first event with the Reno Foodies. As always its great to get together with fellow Unilocalers & Facebookers. Today besides meeting Annie, we sat near Jeana R & Alex R and Chris & Bob and enjoyed our time chatting and getting to know them. At a Sushi bar, it’s hard to talk and meet with everyone. The sushi was okay, but I was not wowed. The service we had was excellent and friendly. And because it was a tasting arranged by Annie, a few special dishes were prepared and passed around for everyone to taste. In addition, our $ 30 got us all you can eat, including tax & tip. On the whole it was a great early dinner, and I’m looking forward to other«Foodie» events. Reno has so many sushi options these days, and if I were up at the Renown Hospital area(just across the street), and in a mood of sushi, I would definitely eat here. It’s just not so great that I’d drive all the way there(from downtown Reno) for their food.

I’ve been waiting for a while to try this new sushi place. So today I went here with my friend and the place was pretty quiet. Before we ordered, I asked if they could make it half rolls? And our server asked the chef. I wanted to make sure because last time at other place they seemed that they didn’t really like when you order half rolls. We started with a miso soup. At first spoon I was like ugh this miso soup was pretty blend, no flavor at all, I didn’t taste any miso. My friend agreed about the taste. This miso was my first worst miso ever! After my first taste I pushed it aside. Then we ordered the mussels and it was pretty good, nice texture. The potstickers were good, skinny size but not bad. The Donald Duck was good, Pisces was pretty good. But the rice wasn’t sticky enough so they were falling apart. Mostly the rolls were an OK taste, the fish was fresh but it wasn’t really wow nor did it impress me much, as I expected when I read some 5 stars reviews here. The cuts were pretty thin too and even one of my friend roll had a very thin cut of avocado. The Saba that seemed very famous here was pretty small and the cut wasn’t that pretty either. The flavor was good, not too salty but it was just pretty small(had to zoom the pic to make it much better view) I was pretty surprised when it came because I thought it was pretty thick cut. The chef made art out of the orange peel, pretty art and very cute one. Honesty I was pretty surprised about all the 5 stars reviews about this place and I didn’t really think this place will be my favorite place for sushi, not yet hm maybe. For me who grew up in a very large city with all type of food and sushi with real Japanese chef so I don’t think this place is a worth for 5 stars. Maybe I’ll give it another try in the future, will see. Maybe yes maybe not. It wasn’t that bad but wasn’t that special that can wowzer me! Especially with a quiet place in a bad weather, no rush to cut more thick for the fish nor avocado or make the rice stick without falling apart when you dipped into soy sauce. The price for lunch is much better than local sushi in Carson for sure. Service was good and nice. But if you’re curious, I’ll said come over there and let’s find out like I did today, who knows you’re experience will be 5 stars unlike mine.

I love that this is so close to hubby’s office so we can have lunch together. Went last night with the teenager and this afternoon with my hubby(we are all on a sushi kick right now). I love the atmosphere, it is in a strip mall but inside feels small but upscale and intimate. We tried the cooked rolls as well as the deep fried both times. I feel like their ingredients are the freshest I have tasted in Reno. We did not do AYCE but next time I will as the teenager is always starving and I would probably save some cash! The reason for the 3 instead of the 4 stars… it took awhile to have someone take our order both visits and our servers both last night and today seemed over-whelmed. We wanted a couple of other things but couldn’t get our server back :(BUT they are very friendly and we love their food, so we will go back and see if it is a different experience. Did I mention I love that they are in the Damonte area??? YAY!

I’m a big fan of knowing my limits and pushing past them anyway. With shots of tequila, I know I should draw the line at seven, but typically end up in the double digit ballpark. With ribs, my mind tells me half-rack, but my stomach always calls for the full. With Netflix, my eyes start to glaze over after hour three of a binge watch spree, but last weekend, I still found myself powering through season two of the Twilight Zone in its entirety. With sushi, this limit has never been particularly clear. In any case, this is the story of how I ate 52 pieces of nigiri at Pisces and left a full and happy man. As I write this, I am still mildly dazed by the sheer volume of fish and rice that my body is processing. I am, however, lucid enough to say with full confidence that Pisces has some of the most(if not THEMOST) top-notch, fresh fish in town. All too often at AYCE places, I’m forced to overlook poorer quality in exchange for guaranteed quantity. Not at Pisces! Here, you CAN have your tobiko and eat it too. Case in point: they’re the first place I’ve been to that cures their own saba in-house; the taste really speaks for itself. The last time I came here, I went à la carte and knew that I had to come back to take on the AYCE challenge. I made the decision to go all-nigiri immediately since most menus are lined with gimmicky hang-ups like cream cheese and mango that kind of take away from what I’m zeroing in on: damn good fish. In my many waves of orders, I tried the saba(cured mackerel), unagi, hamachi, ikura, inari, salmon, snapper, surf clam, albacore… and«cajun tuna.» Starting with the best bites, the unagi, saba, and ikura here are the best I’ve had in town by a long shot. Great cut on the eel, with no sign of bone or gristle. Saba did not have the same cutting aftertaste as I’m used to and its subtle acidity was probably my favorite part of the meal. The salmon roe was so noticeably fresh; I’m usually not a fan but I loved it here. Everything else was spot-on save for the cajun ahi that may have been seared for 30 seconds too long. Still a tasty kick of spice. In the midst of this nigiri madness, I(somehow) made room to try the yakiton and the cacti roll. I’m used to yakiton being bbq’d pork skewers, so I was surprised to find Pisces’ yakiton is more like the heavy-set cousin of a crab rangoon. Think cream-cheese wonton in an eggroll form. Tasty but heavy. The cacti roll, I chose on sole basis of the jalapenos. Fried jalapenos are the americanized additions to sushi that I can readily sign-off on and roll with. This roll was delicious, bringing a punch of crunch and heat. I waited around 15 minutes just to be seated at the bar, which was no real hassle and totally understandable since it was full-tilt lunchtime rush hour. I did notice that the younger servers had a bit of trouble keeping up with the hustle and bustle of the busier hours. I was also seated on the end of the bar next to a pretty demanding party of four, which very possibly could have doubled the wait time on my orders; the chefs were super quick on the uptake though and still churned out quality sushi on the time crunch. For me, the quality of the food and bang for my buck was well worth the extra wait and missed refills. Pisces is a true area gem, even after just three months of being open. Word is spreading fast and people are flocking just as quickly. I’d say hit it while it’s still hot, but I’ve got high hopes that this place will grow to shine even brighter in the months to come.

I’m dating a liar, so I’m sorry, Jose, if we inflated your confidence a bit. Turns out Cory wasn’t quite as big of a fan as I was, but I’m the Unilocaler so my opinion is the only one that matters… hasn’t anyone seen our Southpark episode? Now, I came alone one day after work and had a good experience, although I didn’t stuff my face so I felt like I couldn’t give an accurate review yet. I was the only customer for a long time so I talked with the owner Tony a lot, and that was really one of the major selling points in my first visit. I did try the saba, it is house cured, but I’m just too American in my tastes and still have a hard time eating this one because the fishy flavor is so potent. I liked Tony for the fact he didn’t have any sort of grudge or «holier than though» attitude about the American palette for sushi and he seems just excited to be operating this business. He is from Korea and has cooked and been a sushi chef for about 15 years, all over the world and somehow landed here. Anyways fast forward, Cory is in town and is letting me pick the sushi place. The entire menu is included here at lunch, it’s one of my favorite things I look for in our local sushi restaurants now. I start with mussels, there are 3 kinds, regular, one baked with the white sauce, and deep fried, I did baked. Then we started on the rolls. Both visits it wasn’t busy so Tony and Jose said they don’t mind making half rolls when it is slow. Jose was our chef today and I noticed he is looking at the menu a lot, and asking the other chef(who isnt Tony) lots of questions. Turns out it was his first day and had just started 3 hours ago. You could tell he wasn’t a new to sushi chef, he has worked at 3 other places in Reno. Him and I talk about the reno sushi scene and eventually he asks if I am a chef(HA!), which little did he known is like the best compliment I’ve received in months… I told him I just sushi too much! We tried a lot of rolls, I actually like the deep fried rolls here because they are so crunchy. The Panko has jalapeño and I added lemon inside, it was almost popper like. I loved my Lemon Time roll, that’s where I discovered they do a lemon sauce, which isn’t on many other places menus. Cory had the Yosemite, the menu doesn’t say it’s topped with mango sauce, maybe it was an Jose improvisation. I liked it, but I only had a couple bites, it was too much for him, a couple drizzles would have been better, but it was pretty covered. Cory ordered the Cacti roll too, with deep fried jalepeno slices, also one I enjoyed, but didn’t eat a lot of. Cory would have liked it more as probably a ½ roll. Lastly I did the Zodiac, I like bbq tuna, but Cory apparently doesn’t(again, liar), only thing I would change is the crunch, I like crunch in my rolls. We left and I was beyond happy, I feel like the rolls are different than what else is offered around town. Granted I can’t comment on nigiri as much, as I didn’t order it here. There are a variety of sauces, which I am in love with the lemon sauce. Cory got to the car and felt it was just okay, which bummed me out, because I thought we had a new favorite, but I guess it’s just mine :)

January 18, 2016 Monday — 1PM for lunch 2 adults Atmosphere — 5 stars Food — 5 stars Service — 5 stars Background — Close to the office and wanted to try some sushi Atmosphere — A small place but did not feel crowded at a 1 pm for lunch on MLK Jr. day. We sat at the end of the bar right in front of the sushi chefs. Sorry I should have gotten his name. Food Drinks — Just water as I am on a lunch break from work. My Main Course — The two of us split six rolls for the All You Can Eat. Boy I am stuff. Having the chef in front of you is was cool. I normally sit at a table as I am in a larger party. We ordered our rolls in pairs. Started with the Pisces and the Sun Flower, winner was the Sun Flower. Next round was the Hyper and the Green Apple. The Green Apple is really felt like a dessert roll, and I was eating lunch. The Hyper wins this round. Next pair was the Zodiac and the Cotton Candy. No idea where they got the for Cotton Candy roll. Cotton Candy was cooked in a little oven, college dorm style. Zodiac won this round and the overall meal for me. The sauce on top of the roll was very pleasing. Service — Having the chef in front of you was convenient. You place your orders with him when you were ready. It has been a long time since I have been at the bar. I love the speed of the service. So I really do not know if it was Pisces or the norm. Our chef was doing a bang bang job, he was putting out those rolls. Future — Yes I would come back for more sushi

3 times. First time I was in love. Didn’t look at the menu. Just told him the stuff I liked and we got lots of what we like. Nigiri, Ikura, Quail Eggs, Salmon Skin… it was all awesome. Second time. Went with friends. The rolls weren’t as good the first time. The wait was a little long. They were a little short handed behind the counter. Nothing really wowed us. Third time. Not so good. Finally took a look a the menu. Saw pretty much something cooked in every single roll. Lots of shrimp and crab. I’m just not so jazzed seeing what they offer on the menu. The honeymoon is over. The place is still looking nice and the service is good. They haven’t been open too long, so I will head back down in a month or two to check them out. If you do go, focus on the nigiri. It is really good.

If you’re a sushi fan and a krab and/or cream cheese lover, then this is a great place for you. $ 17.95 for lunch AYCE and $ 2.50 for a drink. I’ve been here a couple of times for lunch and I really wanted to give it 4 stars and be excited for a terrific sushi place just down the street from me, but I find this to be just A-OK. The fish is fresh, the variety is really lacking for a raw fish lover who is not fond of cream cheese(a personal preference, I know, and I’m ok with that), the service is ok, the atmosphere is good… there just isn’t anything that really strikes me or impresses me. And I was quite disappointed when the rice ball under my nigiri completely fell apart on me, even though it happened just once. I guess they made up for it with serving up quality green tea ice cream… I’m pretty picky about that item, too. Will I steer you away from this venue? Not at all, but I won’t get you excited about it, either. Maybe it’s because it’s relatively new and needs to work out the kinks. I will give them some time to get through their grand opening. My hope is that when I visit again, the rice will be packed a little tighter, they will find their rhythm in serving a busy clientele, more raw variety will be added to the menu and less choices with cream cheese.
