It was hard to decide between 3 and 4 stars because while the food is quite delicious, it is so overpriced! Me and the husband got 2 sushi rolls and 2 entrees and it was $ 60 and we only had a little bit of left overs. Rolls were delicious but was supposed to have 3 different kinds of raw fish and the way they were prepared felt like there was only one type of fish. The chicken was good esp the shrimp sambal. As for the service, I thought the ladies did fine. And I’m usually pretty picky about service. Okay, I’m very picky. The atmosphere was great, clean, with a cool layout. Definitely a cool night scene I’m sure. I don’t think I’d return because in Dallas, they’re is always delicious sushi options for much cheaper.

Tried this place out for lunch today and it is much lower on the totem pole for sure. The prices are nice, $ 11.95 for 3 sushi rolls and an entrée for $ 8.00. The food isn’t impressive though – the sushi had a dull taste to it, the miso soup had no flavor and I felt like I was drinking water. Be careful when asking for any dish spicy just fyi – we ordered a spicy dish and it was crazy but the dish was pretty damn hott – i felt like my insides were on fire. When they refill the water they refill it with no ice and it’s just room temperature… I wasn’t impressed with the service either to be honest. I won’t be back here.

Food 3 Service 1 Atmosphere 3 The décor is nice, but the service was less than inviting. The hostess barely greeted us. The place was super empty for a Friday night. Maybe one other couple. Jason ordered lemonade and it came in a can. I ordered the miso soup. It was okay, but I have had better. The house salad had a lot of ginger dressing. Again, I have had better. I ordered a shrimp and avocado roll which was good, and a spider roll which had romaine lettuce in it. Um… they lost me on that. The final straw was when the asked if my boyfriend and I were paying together or separately. That solidified that I will not be back. I am not even sure why there was a question because it was obvious… and they watched us half of the time. Due to the crappy service, I won’t return.

Visited the restaurant last night at 6pm, was mostly empty. Had the egg drop soup and garlic chicken. Food was good for the price. Might go back after I try all the other great looking restaurants in that strip mall area.

Ate here on a Sunday night. Restaurant was rather empty which I attributed to it just being Sunday. The staff was polite and friendly. I was seated immediately. Unfortunately, my table was sticky. I should have asked the server to wipe it for me but I decided to do it myself thinking it wasn’t a big deal at the time. I ordered 3 rolls, tuna, eel, and yellow tail. Fish and eel tasted fresh but the ginger that came with the yellow tail was old. I started with an order of the tuna and eel .My tuna and eel sat on the counter for a while because my server disappeared .The sushi chef realized I had been waiting and decided to bring it out. I wanted to order the yellow tail and I had to go find my server to place the yellow tail order which came quickly The rolls looked like they were made by an amateur as the sushi kept falling apart.(I should haven taken pictures) The sushi was tasty just presented poorly. Maybe they just weren’t having a good night.

Ordered for delivery. Kampong salad was horrible nothing like its ingredient on the menu. If you pickle juice on crispy noodle, this is it!

Stick with steak when in Texas. Not all Asian cuisine is salty, oily, & filled with MSG. Not impressed.

Love this place. I always order online because they deliver all the time good food that is always delicious. I know you would think sashimi to go? Really? But yeah, its that good. Not the biggest selection, but what they have is really good. No complaints

One of the few places that carry Malaysian food!!! I was so glad to run into this on my Unilocal radar. As someone who used to live in Houston, I was always trying to find a place that served decent Malaysian food. I’ve tried little places here and there but they just never compared to the authenticity and flavor that I was looking for. Kampong definitely filled that little void for me. As you can see, this is solely for the Malaysian cuisine that I have tried here. As for the Japanese and Thai, I will come back to try. Their version if Mee Goreng prompted me to try to make some at home because I just couldn’t get enough. When I finished, I was literally sad looking at my empty plate. Prior to this, I had started off with their version of Roti Canai. This was alright in my opinion, not the best that I have tried. Their curry was a tad watery and their Roti did not have that rich buttery flavor I was looking for. However, I left this place very satisfied. Next time, I need to get TWO servings! I’ve read other reviews on their Laksa and they were great reviews so I am very tempted to try that next time! As of now, it is still 30% off your entire meal after 3PM. Only another reason to eat here. I really hope it can stay alive, this location hasn’t been the greatest for longevity.

This weekend was Malaysian weekend and we went to 3 Malaysian restaurants over the week. My husband loved their beef rendang and said that this is the best among all 3. My son ordered his usual nasi lemak but didn’t really like the sambal. The prawns was too sweet for our liking. I ordered the fried kuey teow. It tasted good but not as authentic. We really liked the ambiance. WE would still go again because we just liked the place. The Malaysian dishes were not many but it was still okay.

The wonton soup was excellent. The wonton were stuffed with both shrimp and chicken. Very filling and celery stalks added for a nice flavor. Got the shashimi platter. Nice cuts of fish. Very flavorful. Mackerel, salmon, tuna, and octopus. Enjoyed it with a nice bottle of cold Nigori saki.

Two friends and I recently tried this place together. I had previously been once by myself. Surprisingly, without conferring with each other on our menu choices, we all picked the same roll: the Passion Roll. We were all very happy with our choice. We will all return. The ingredients are fresh tasting, and the portion was just right along with the edamame. The servers are attentive, but not overly attentive. Right now, they have a promotion. They are offering 30% off food after 3 pm. It seems that the Post Eastside complex slows down after the lunch crowd due to the telecom corridor business.

Let’s start with I’m a Malaysian and do miss the food from my country. Thus, I was very excited to try this place out but haven’t be able to till yesterday. I brought my cousin(also a malaysian) and it’s pretty good though not 100% authentic since you can’t get alot of stuff that Malaysians use. Still, it’s pretty close. I would give this place a 4.5 stars but Unilocal doesn’t do roundings… Well, on with the review! We got the laksa, beef rendang, sushi platter(?), and nasi lemak. We ate everything! Let’s start with the list of meals I just mentioned: Laksa: VERYGOOD! they used the yellow noodles that laksa would have in Malaysia and the definitely had the spice. It’s was more creamy/milky compared to the traditional laksa and did not have the same authenticity BUT! it was very tasty! I think it might be Singapore style curry laksa ? Beef rendang: The recipe that they used was just as good as the rendang you get in Malaysia! The heat and spiciness of this dish was very well done! Only thing was the beef used was not how it’s usually prepared with but I understand since they used the USDA beef. Still, a very good meal. Only recommendation was that the chef make the meat a little less tough? but as said, it was still delicious! I have eaten this twice this week!(4th august 2014) Sushi platter: I must say all the fish we had was fresh and I definitely would order it again. There’s not much to comment on this as I prefer my Malaysian delicacies that were in front of me. I love the extra crunch(tempura) that they added to one of the sushi rolls. Nasi lemak: Ahhhh yes, finally. One of malaysia’s favourites. Nasi lemak comes with your standard curry chicken(although in malaysia, you have a choice of beef, chicken or fish), an egg, anchovies and peanuts, cucumber and of course, rice. It’s pretty good but I felt that the chicken curry was a little sweet(I’m sensitive to anything with a tiny drop of sugar in meals because I rarely take sugary stuff) Now, For the service and atmosphere portion: Service was great. The staff always made sure your glass is never empty, they spoke politely, answered all your questions and are definitely very friendly. The atmosphere is really clean which is a big plus for me, and I like the sitting and décor. I don’t really feel like I need to comment much on their atmosphere or service since I ended up leaving happy and full. To sum it up, I would definitely return here often. Tip: Come after 3 pm and you have a discount of 30% off your meal.

Nothing major to report. Was treated to lunch … ordered shrimp pad thai… it was okay. Noodles were stuck together, more noodles than meat and one of the shrimp weren’t deveined and had that icky poop trail in it. May order again, but will stick to sushi.

Went back with my daughter for dinner on a weekend. Vegetable fried rice — excellent!!! California Roll — only 6 pieces when most restaurants give 8. So I feel it was overpriced for what was received. We enjoyed our time, our food, and the service. Still a fan!

I wanted to have something different for lunch so I went to Kampong. I saw they had a sushi lunch special(3 rolls from a set list for $ 11.95) and while it wasn’t bad nor was the service slow, this place is a middle of the road as you can get when it comes to Asian fusion. The interior is nice, lots of tables, lots of booths, a sushi area, pretty much what you’d expect from a place like this. I don’t see myself chomping at the bit to go back, but I’ll give the Malaysian entrees a shot and see if I’ll be more impressed with what they have to offer.

DISCLAIMER: This review only pertains to the sushi. I plan on trying some of their other, more Malaysian items, so maybe they can redeem themselves. That said, I so wanted to like the sushi at Kampong. After Kinado closed in late 2012, the Eastside Richardson master-planned community was left without sushi for an entire year. Granted, Kinado closed because their sushi wasn’t very good, but still, the location is so good that going an entire year without sushi seemed a little ridiculous, even with a slowly recovering economy. Thanks Obama!(ridiculous tongue-in-cheek, unless you watch Faux News… then I’M KIDDING!). I digress… Anyway, in late November 2013, Kampong opened rather quickly, to much local fanfare and a grand opening. After delaying for a couple months, I finally decided to try the sushi out tonight… I was so disappointed. Mind you, the sushi isn’t bad, it’s just not that good. Here is what I tried: Tuna and salmon nigiri; l the fish was tender but the rice seemed either a little underdone or not enough vinegar. The pieces were also quite small. Tuna roll and salmon roll: One of the better items I tried tonight. Nice, large pieces, both the salmon and tuna were tender, but again, the rice just wasn’t right and on this roll, the seaweed didn’t taste like anything. California roll/Rainbow roll: Now, I know these are both examples of «Americanized» sushi, but when you offer them, you need to get them right. The ONLY way to do either of those rolls is with the crab meat mixture in the middle, NOT the chunk of crab meat. Besides that, it just wasn’t that good. The best description from my wife about the sushi summed it up: «it’s just bland.» Now, to the worst part: what they call their Naruto Roll. At places like Blue Fish, it’s called the«South Beach Roll», where it’s just fish, no rice, wrapped in cucumber. It’s one of my favorites anywhere I go, but here, it was simply bad. The cucumber had no taste and wasn’t crisp, and again, the fish was bland and had no flavor. Oh, I so wanted Kampong’s sushi to be good, but this wasn’t even average, and I am severely disappointed. In a cut-throat sushi market like Dallas, if you don’t go above and beyond or at least be bold and different, you’re not going to survive. There are too many excellent sushi places here. Add to that is the fact Sushi Sake, regarded by many as the best sushi in the DFW area, is just across Central Expressway from where Kampong sits. You’ve also got a couple more sushi spots within half a mile of here, so… if they don’t up their game, they will suffer the same fate as Kinado.

Great service! Amazing food. I ordered a shrimp and tofu plate. It was cooked to perfection and the flavor was excellent! I would also recommend the mango salad, very fresh!

The service is earnest and ambience is pleasant. Their menu offers many choices for diners who may want to try more variety of southeast asian cuisine but are not completely accustomed to the flavors and aren’t sure what to order. I didn’t get to try the sushi, so I can’t comment on it.

This is really great restaurant with all the Asian fusion. You get a mixture of Malaysian, Chinese, Singaporean, Japanese, and others combine to make an authentic twist! The dishes were traditionally made and very healthy. I really like the mango chicken and curries. Try those and you’ll be amazed. The staffs were awesome and tend to our needs. I would definitely recomend this place to my friends because they love to try something new.
