The food came out suspiciously quickly after we ordered, and all of the ingredients in our bowls looked like they had been microwaved. The inside decorations were very nice, but they were so nice that the food didn’t seem to fit in to the environment. The price was reasonable, and the food was edible. Overall okay experience, might come back if I was craving teriyaki chicken.

I would compare the sushi to grocery store grade. It might satisfy a craving in a pinch, but there are better options. When I went in, it was empty, yet there was still a super long wait for my order. It was also overpriced. Do yourself a favor and go to Sushi Sake up the street.

Had lunch here with a friend. We decided to dine here since it was on our list to try. I ordered a salmon bento box with California rolls and udon noodles. For the sauces, I chose red dragon and spicy aki. My friend had the white chicken bento box with rice and California rolls. First, let me just say, the food is mediocre. My salmon was a little dry. The udon noodles were plain. I had envisioned it would be similar to noodles you would get at a hibachi place or at least had some flavor to it. To compromise, I poured the red dragon sauce over the noodles and made it better! Do not get the California rolls, especially if you’re a sushi lover, like myself. They tasted like they have been sitting out for weeks. The crab meat tasted like they were rotten. However, he customer service is great. All in all, I wouldn’t return. If I want Japanese food, I’ll stick to an authentic Japanese restaurant.

Probably will not come back here any sooner. Their food is plain, not much flavor and the portion is small for what they call big bowl. And it was expensive for a big bowl $ 9.74.

2 customers in the store, no one in line, 5 employees, 2 on break, 15 min wait @ 8pm. Won’t be back…

Hate to be discouraging to the owners, but this just isn’t that good. The food is fair, the service is fair. Nice people but just not good. If you are wanting sushi, you should go elsewhere. My wife’s chicken, not good.

I really love this place. As a vegan this makes eating out tasty and healthy. I always get a build your own bowl with tofu and the no brainier mix and I’ve gotten a different sauce every time. I know some people don’t like the tofu basil roll, but it tastes good to me! 10⁄10. Service and atmosphere is great too.

Wow!!! Phenomenal food and the amazingly engaging, but efficient customer service from Mark, who just happens to be the general manager makes this place stand out! The Nikko salad is super tasty and don’t forget to get some California rolls and spring rolls!!! Plus it was Tokyo Joe’s birthday, so the vanilla cupcake was an unexpected surprise to the end of a great meal!

1. Almost every time I have ordered from here, they have made a mistake in my order. This time it was all the sauces, last time it was the shrimp in my surf and turf bowl. I have given this place a year(!) grace period, and am almost always disappointed. 2. Some of the employees are quite nice and courteous, but for the most part they just dick around in the back and have recently been very rude when we have to drive back to pick up a missing part of our order. Literally got attitude from a guy who had 25 minutes to put an order together for me and forgot to include all the sauces when there is NOONE else dining in or waiting for a take out order. 3. The sushi rolls are a joke. Tofu basil roll tastes like fish and falls apart immediately. Chicken spring rolls taste like they came out of the freezer. There are at least 20 other take out restaurants in the immediate area. Don’t waste your time as I have hoping they would finally get their business together. Edit: The operations manager has gotten in touch with me and has offered to remedy the situation. Appreciate that.

Decided to try this place when it was recently opened. I tried the chicken teriyaki bowl. The chicken was tender but there was too much sauce in my opinion that overlook the flavor and soaked my rice. This place is okay if you want quick, Americanized Japanese food. Hence the name of the restaurant. The layout was nice and modern. The wait staff was knowledgeable and courteous. If you’re in the mood for authentic Asian food, drive 5 minutes down the street to the Richardson china town.

The food was really good asian fusion. The choices were healthy which is what mattered to me really, and you could adjust the spice to taste. I went in there to read and just have a quiet evening by myself and the ambience was so conducive to that. No loud music. Let me focus on my reading but with good food. I had the mahi mahi bowl which was a very unique blend of veggies, mahi mahi of course and rice noodles. I also ordered the plate of white chicken spring rolls and they were out of the world! I have never had spring rolls with avocado and basil and I just loved the mix. Finally, topping on the cake, they sent over a complementary basket of edamame. Loved the experience.

Great food. I’m from Houston and we decided to try this place and I’m glad we did. Now if they would just open one in Houston.

I went to Tokyo Joe’s after they opened. I did the create your own bowl and it was not really that good. The sushi(California roll) was overpriced and fell apart as we ate it. Tables are set up for groups of 4 only; bar style table along a wall. I decided to give it another try. This time i ordered the Surf and Turf bowl with noodles and a Texas Roll. The Texas Roll($ 4.50) was 4 tiny pieces with hardly any flavor; it fell apart again while eating. The bowl was still not that good. Just go to Pei Wei for your bowl fix and just about any other sushi place for sushi.

A mediocre order and eat that boasts a Japanese American menu. Food was average, service ok. Ambience is good and location is best for weekday lunch options.

Having traveled early in the morning and enjoyed quite a duck feast at our favorite Dallas place, I wasn’t in the mood for Asian food again for dinner. My parents wanted to bring Potbelly’s back to the our hotel. Since I can get Potbelly’s back in Chicago, I wanted to give this place a try. And it is located across the street from the Potbelly’s. We got there about an hour or so before closing. Props to the guy taking my order. I spent quite some time looking over the menu deciding what to get. I was kind of worried about getting«almost time to close» like food. I was pleasantly surprised. I went with the Build Your Own bowl, with chicken with teriyaki sauce, brown rice, broccoli and green onions. You get one side, but anything more than that is extra money. I also got an order of edamame and the California roll. Yes, a few hours of shopping makes me hungry. While making my bowl, one of the employees asked if I wanted sauce on the side, which didn’t occur to me when I was ordering. It didn’t matter; they gave me an extra container of teriyaki sauce just in case. Honestly, I didn’t use the extra sauce. My bowl had enough sauce for the chicken and steamed veggies. The California roll(crab meat mix, avocado) was just ok — really bland. Thank goodness I only had the 4-piece. I’d give this place another shot the next time I’m in town. Plus it was about a 5 – 10 minute drive from our hotel. Also, my dad was happy they sold Sapporo by the bottle here.

We were excited about this place opening so close to us. but after trying it, we will go to our other standbys — pei wei, sawadika thai, and sushi sake. Those last 2 are in the same shopping center area! It is appreciated that Tokyo Joe’s promotes wild caught sustainable seafood, no GMOS, organic, and healthy… but that doesn’t mean lose the flavor. Food is bland and tasteless. Vegetables are steamed, not stir fried, and taste almost raw. WAYTOOMUCHRICE. Get your sauce on the side. the food is drowned in it. The Build your own bowls come with a protein and sauce. but you have to pay extra for vegetables and then pay another $ 2 if you want no rice and extra veggies instead. The veggie portions are small. So many people talked about the great service. we didn’t notice anything special about it. Tables have soy sauce packets on them, not actual vials. What we ordered: — California Roll — $ 4 for 4 pieces?! And lots of rice with very little filling. Monday nights are 2for1 sushi. so that might be better — BYOB with steak, teriyaki, rice and carrots — steak was good. lean and not chewy. Way too much sauce! carrots cubed very small and very little amount. def not worth the $ 1.35 they charge for them! way too much rice! — BYOB with salmon, peanut sauce, rice, and all the veggies. — bland, flavorless, tasteless. way too much rice. — BYOB with salmon, panang curry, no rice and extra vegetables. — bland. no flavor.

Fun atmosphere– the layout and décor seems to work and flow nice. Music not way over bearing Friendly staff informative of their menu. We had tried a little bit of everything today Food is tasty and I think good recipes For me tho order the Sauce on the side so I can control the amount of sauce I like. With that being said I will build my own bowl to see how that will work out for me. The chicken has good flavor. And the Mahi Mahi also good flavor seasoned just right. So that is it for today. I’ll come back and update. 11÷23÷15 — I’ve been back several times since this place has opened. Food, service, décor two thumbs ups.

We went to Tokoyo Joe’s for the first time today. We showed up about 45 minutes after opening so there were already a few customers dining. The line was short(although it did get pretty long as we were dining). The ambiance was beautifully decorated. I loved the music they were playing as well(classic rock), but I don’t know if others would appreciate it not keeping with the theme of the restaurant. I ordered the coconut-curry chicken bowl and my fiancé ordered the surf and turf teriyaki bowl. We also ordered edamame and miso. The food came out very quickly and employees were all extremely nice. We did have to get our own chopsticks, napkins and togo boxes though. The miso came first. It was delicious broth! The tofu on the other hand was straight from the package, nothing had been done to it before hand to let it absorb any extra flavor like tofu does so well. The edamame was good standard edamame, not overly steamed or mushy. Then our bowls came. Right off the bat, I was VERY impressed with how pretty the presentation was and how fresh the ingredients looked. Tons of vegetables, just how I like it! The sauce is on the top as part of the presentation so I had to stir everything up well so it was all evenly coated. Finally we are ready to start digging in. Right away I could taste the heat from the jalapeño which I love… But then that was it. There was a subtle hit of curry flavor but the sweet creaminess from the coconut milk was nonexistent. I am not a soy sauce person, I view it as «if my food is seasoned right, I won’t need it.» I ended up having to put a TON on this bowl just to make it palatable. I only ate half and brought the other half home for the veggies so I can rinse them off and reuse them in another dish. The chicken was shredded in incredibly small pieces, some were smaller than the water chestnut pieces. The teriyaki surf and turf bowl was LOADED in sauce, which was overly sweet almost entirely brown sugar flavor and nothing else. The steak pieces were comparable to the same cuts of meat that you get in a progressive soup can, and there were about 3 or 4 pieces of shrimp. I’m all about giving places two tries before never going back, but I am going to give them a few months to get adjusted to their new location. As of right now 3 stars: 1 ambiance, 1 friendly employees, 1 food presentation. And yes I went very easy on the rating since they are new.

I have come here a few times and feel it «fair» to review now. My first visit was on their 3rd day after opening and while they were working thru a few kinks, everything seemed to run reasonably well. My second and third visit were a bit smoother and they seem to continue to grow in getting everything running smoothly. I applaud Tokyo Joe’s for giving the Dallas folks a reasonably healthy place to eat in a day and age where restaurants make a killing out of killing folks with high fat and high sodium food. I was a bit surprised by some of the low ratings on the reviews after trying them out, but hey, we are ALL entitled to our opinion. My favorite after a few visits is the create my own bowl. You choose your protein, rice or noodles, your sauce, and your veggies. Pretty much, you make it to your taste and in doing so, you determine your own outcome of flavors. Another thing that should probably be noted here is the outstanding employees. Tokyo Joe’s did a great job on crew selection as these folks make you feel right at home and are friendly and helpful.

Dear god please do not open any more in Texas! I had semi high hopes for this place. I can not recommend. The atmosphere was good. From the wooden tables to the bamboo accented walls. The staff was very friendly. The food however was not good. I had a Tofu Basil Roll. I tasted no basil, no lemon grass, chili in the sweet chili sauce. Just sweet sweet sweet! I also ordered the Traditional Oyako bowl. It had what I think were udon noodles but mushy. This dish was also sweet! My friend had some sushi. So thinly cut and perfectly square. His dish did not look appetizing at all. Avoid if possible.
