Get the black bean fish. Perfectly done. If skip the noodles and fried rice and just go for plain rice. Ask for no onions too. Great value. The soup was bad and there was only one choice — hot and sour.

The lemon pepper chicken and it’s presentation was both appealing and delicious, and the Mongolian beef just melted on my palette with a nice bite of spices.

It’s been over a year so time to update my review of Beijing. I’m giving a downgrade to 3 stars since I think service is a bit hit or miss and food is still decent, but not outstanding. My three visits to Beijing in 2015 were less than stellar: 1. One time I ordered takeout for the Black Bean fish filet lunch special and waited and waited. After 20 mins wait and no reassurances from the wait staff I left and got a late lunch from reliable Louies down the street. I vowed not to come here after that miss. 1 star. 2. The second time was a month ago when we had a small team lunch. Two of us ordered Bento boxes and two ordered Chinese lunch plates. This time food was decent and I liked how you get miso soup with Bento and hot and sour with Chinese. My only gripe is the very tiny protein portion(teriyaki salmon) on the Bento. 3.5 stars. 3. Today I came back for a team lunch — 13 people! The free salad that came out for the Chinese lunch combos was 100% plain lettuce. No kidding — not a deconstructed salad, just pure lettuce and you had to ask for dressing. It was tasty at least but we just stared at each other in shock. Food didn’t all come out and two of us had to wait awkwardly. My dish Hunan Fish Filet was just OK — somewhat spicy and cooked well but the flavor lacks punch. 3 stars. In summary, Beijing is still decent for me, but no longer the clear #1 option for Asian food in Point Richmond. Little China is still in business for the past 15+ years so maybe I’ll visit them again.

It has gone way down hill in the last couple of months. Used to eat here once a week, the last two times I have literally inedible beef(I couldn’t chew it down, I had to spit it out) and the other I only ate at this place all day and had«gastric problems» after eating the Walnut Chicken.(It might have been the water I drank there, but like I said I ONLY ate there.) It’s too bad since this place was pretty good it first few months. The service has always been on the slow side.

Wow have things changed with this place. I ordered take out and noticed my food did not taste as good as it had in the past. So I wonder if the cook changed. Chinese food is all about the chef/cook. Then I went with a friend for lunch, she ordered a sushi roll. I ordered the lunch special. Her order came, mine didn’t. I asked and asked about my meal and was told it is being cooked. It is the«lunch special» why was it taking 30 minutes to prepare. Meanwhile, my friend offered me a piece of her roll and OMG it was awful! Very fishy tasting and tons of rice. I never did get my lunch because I had to leave as my lunch is only an hour. I will NEVER go back to this restaurant. It is so hard to find a good Chinese restaurant. Brandy Ho’s in SF is really good.

I purchased a Groupon for Bei Jing and given the reviews, I was excited about trying it. Well, I’m frankly surprised it’s gotten such good reviews. I reluctantly give it 2 stars. The service was mediocre at best. It was difficult to communicate with the waitress and we found asking questions about the menu a waste of time — this was an issue because my partner has several food allergies and the menu doesn’t break ingredients down. She approached the table before we were ready to order and we asked for another minute. She then disappeared for quite awhile before we could place our order. And the restaurant was not busy at all. I’m not sure where she disappeared to. I will say however that she was very pleasant. Reviewing service here, not her character. We ordered the veggie spring rolls, garlic sesame beef and veggie chow mein. The spring rolls were okay. Nothing special at all. My partner could only find it in himself to finish one of them. I ate the rest. Lots of hot mustard made them more interesting for me. He just curled up his nose at the thought of trying another. The garlic sesame beef seemed to be lacking, ahhh, GARLIC! Hmm. Big oversight. It was a plate of stir fried beef strips with sesame seeds on a plate of raw shredded lettuce. Eatable, but blah. The veggie chow mein was greasy as all get out. Very difficult to eat(for me). Even with all the fat, it lacked taste. When they presented the bill, I’d forgotten to give them the Groupon before it came.(my bad) The original bill came to the table with two fortune cookies on it. When I presented the Groupon the whole tray went back — and they took my phone too! — and when it returned — no cookies! At least I got my phone back. lol. We joked on the way out, «No cookies for you!» So, I’ll give them an extra star for a nice clean restaurant and personable staff. I would not return here, I’m sorry to say. I’ll drive back to Berkeley to Shen Hua. Sorry Bei Jing.

Reasonable prices, one step above average Chinese food, not worth a special trip, language barriers and under staffing result in poor customer service. We are so blessed to have so many outstanding Asian restaurants in the area that the only reason one would come here is if they lived nearby or like the stereotypical kitschy style red lanterns and dragons that older Americans grew up with. The food is a notch above average in that it isn’t as greasy or gristly as cheap Chinese food but employs the same methods of copious corn starch sauces and heavily battered deep fried seafood and meats. The servings are generous. $ 2 is charged for tepid tea. Upon entering, the waitress will ask«What restaurant do you want?» Which was confusing, so I answered, «Um, this one?» I later figured out they have two separate menus, one for Chinese the other for sushi. After placing our order, I was relieved that the waitress carefully repeated our dishes to ensure accuracy, as her English was limited. My dining partner’s fried rice came out first and then their Mongolian Beef 5 minutes later(I don’t eat beef). My mushy brown rice(tasted like it had been sitting all day and then reheated) came out 5 minutes after that. About 5 minutes later, another woman brings out Salt and Pepper Fish(which look like huge fish donuts with all the batter) and I tell her that I actually ordered Black Bean Fish filets(about the only fish that isn’t battered). She looks at the list and then reasons, «Yeah, yeah, Black Pepper Fish» and I insist, «No, I ordered Black Bean Fish.» No apologies, she leaves. I figure they would remedy their mistake by making the entrée immediately. Nope. 20 minutes later, my entrée finally arrives, 45 minutes after placing my order and well after my dinner partner has finished. If you do come here, I would recommend actually pointing to the entrees on the menu so that there is no confusion about what you ordered. If you are in Point Richmond for Chinese take out or lunch, I would recommend Little China. Fast, fresh and better flavor and ingredients, but their tables are too small for larger groups and too utilitarian for dinner out.

Decent place that I’ve been to several times. Overall I prefer the food at Little China across the street but I do have to say that Beijing makes the better soup.

We came towards the end of lunch on a weekday. We were one of the few people there. The atmosphere was nice and welcoming. The servers were young maybe high school students but they did fine overall but not as attentive as a seasoned server. The meal was very reasonable about $ 6 or $ 7 bucks. Can’t beat that! And it was pretty good. I had the Orange Chicken Peel. It was freshly made. They also offer wifi with a minimum purchase. Your order came with steamed rice but for an additional charge you could have chow-mien or fried rice. I tried the chow-mien, it wasn’t bad but probably won’t pay extra for it next. There will be a next time I enjoyed my experience there.

I was surprised to find a good Chinese restaurant in Richmond! They have great prices for great food! The lunch special, which ranges from $ 7 – 9 depending on the dish, comes with salad, hot and sour soup, an egg roll, and white rice(which can be substituted with fried rice or noodles for an additional charge). The portions are pretty generous. I always get Mongolian Beef, and it’s perfectly delicious every time. Service was good. They bring out your food pretty quickly. Note: $ 10 minimum for credit cards

The Food Was Good, It Was Nice Inside, But Didn’t Know To Just Seat Ourselves. I Dislike That I Had To Say We Are Ready To Order. I Did Enjoy The Food And Will Go Back And Hope It Will Be A Better Experience Like All The Main Food Comes At The Same Time Rather Than Later Also More Than 6 Prawns On The Rice, I Didn’t Take Any Stars Because The Food And Ambience Was Great.

For those who can’t have MSG, this is the one to go to as the menu states there are no MSG added to the dishes here. I simply love the sauteed garlic-spinach. As simple as it may seem, the clean flavours were delicious and paired the steamed rice perfectly. The vegetable chow-mein didn’t have the dreaded celery slices that has no place in such a dish, but seem to crop up in many other establishments. Though I would have preferred the thinner noodles, this was thankfully not as thick as at some others. The mix of vegetables and the sauce suited the dish really well. I enjoyed both the texture and the taste. The steamed pork dumplings were made fresh on order and took about 15 minutes. And it was definitely worth the wait. However you have to be careful as they are scalding hot, not helped by the steaming hot soup inside the dumplings. If you are willing to hold off and wait a bit for it to cool down, the dumplings were delicious! Lastly, the garlic chicken brought up the rear very well. It wasn’t to be scoffed at and we enjoyed every last morsel of it. The sauce was really good, as was the chicken(breast meat only, as per the menu). We had almost half of the food left over to take home for another meal, and the check came to less than $ 40 including tax and tips.

Beijing, why have ignored you for so long? I should have held you and coddled you all along. But I was blind and I was ignorant. Please forgive me. Had I known how good your food was, I would have come more frequently. I would tasted everything on your menu. I would have told all my friends. I would have written a glowing Unilocal review. I would have loved you. But now, it seems time has wasted. I need to make up for this lost time. I will write a review now. I will return often. I will get take out or eat in. I will re order the salt and pepper shrimp with the shell(Chinese style) because it was so good. I will eat the garlic eggplant because I loved it. I will smile at the waitress because the service was so good. Sorry that I have ignored you for so long. But don’t worry, I will be back. See you then.

Came here for lunch with my lovely fyelper Mindy S. I am so glad we did! Although she had a groupon we were told we could not use it for lunch. We were escorted to our table and informed about the special which was a bento box that included; tempura, ca roll, chicken teriyaki, salad and a side soup. I found that interesting since this is a Chinese restaurant however they do have a sushi bar and later I did see the sushi chef. We opted out and had some Chinese, here we go. A la carte salt & pepper chicken: all white meat the batter was exquisite so far the best I’ve had for salt & pepper. Sesame chicken: again very lightly battered and all white meat, the sauce was tangy yet sweet with a hint of ginger. We also ordered tea $ 2.00 jasmine was flavorful yet not overbearing. Service: one waiter that was able to customize our order thumbs up for that. Note: we had a groupon to use and they said we could not use it for lunch however on the groupon it does not state that. Thank you Mindy S. for lovely lunch. dos 12 quince

We finally tried this place a few weeks ago and were so impressed that we’ve already been back with out-of-town guests. First, let me rave about the vegetables. Everything here is FRESH — we’re talking, things that should have a little crunch, actually have that crunch. Nothing soggy or wilted — even the lettuce garnish under sauced dishes is bright and fresh. The wonton soup we got on the first night was perfect, and is on my list to repeat. The garlic sesame beef was good — nice cuts of meat, plenty of sauce, perfect with rice. The crab cheese wontons have visible(and delicious!) crab in them! That in itself is a step up from most other places. The food comes out piping hot — except the sushi. Thank goodness! Ha! Sushi options are limited — some nice standard options available, though, if that’s what you’re craving, and the sushi chef was there both times we’ve been in thus far. Fried entrees like the standard sweet and sour chicken all come out steaming with the tasty batter still nice and crisp. The honey walnut chicken and combo fried rice were big hits with the people we brought on our second visit. Service is fast and friendly, and the ambiance in the restaurant is pleasant — love the exposed brick along the back wall. Lots of people were in and out picking up take-out orders, and all orders seemed correct and ready on time.(We were eavesdropping on those conversations a little, scoping this out as an option for next time.) :) All in all, we are glad they’re here in town and we’re looking forward to our next visit!

This new place in Point Richmond is much larger and grander than Little China, just a block away, but the food, prices, and service are pretty much identical. At least this is the case for lunch. I really like Chinese food when it’s good, and this is good. It’s funny how some much nicer, bigger towns can’t boast the same per capita quality of Asian restaurants as Point Richmond does. The hot and sour soup was good and fresh, and the spring roll with my lunch combo was good too. I ordered Kung Pao chicken the same evening for take-out and it was a little strange. It did not have the usual sauce and the dish was more sautéed than stir fried. The only annoying thing to me is that the minimum charge is $ 10 and you really can’t buy lunch for more than $ 7.50. Most people would say that’s a good problem to have. I guess I agree.

**TAKE-OUT Only** TL;DR? Having been a Chinese food connoisseur all my life, this place is oddly legit! Definitely recommend the Honey Walnut Prawns. Don’t be afraid of take-out, the portions are huge! Try the lunch specials if you can though. Who would’ve thought Richmond had a decent Chinese restaurant?! Christ, I am ECSTATIC! One night, I was craving Asian food and my friend suggested we do take-out at Bei Jing. My friend knew I was a big Asian foodie(and he isn’t haha), so initially I was quite skeptical. However I caved and agreed to try this place out. When I eat Chinese food, I make it my mission to figure out what type of cuisine it is(not that hard but like 75% of American population don’t know there’s DIFFERENT types of Chinese cuisine). Additionally, I have a core set of entrees that I specifically must try to pass valid judgment on the establishment. Example: crab meat and fish maw soup, honey walnut prawns, Mongolian beef, salty peppered spareribs, duck entrée, tofu dishes, etc. We decided on getting the Mapo Tofu($ 8.25), Honey Walnut Prawns($ 9.95), Szechuan Spicy Chicken($ 9.95). Prices were in the middle range but for the huge take-out portions, it was reasonable. Mapo Tofu consisted of small, cubed soft tofu pieces drenched in hot oil sauce, peas, carrots, and green onions– entirely a vegetarian dish. The tofu pieces were smooth and supple like savory jello. I enjoyed the tofu although it probably burned a hole through my duodenum, considering how much oil and chili sauce it contained. Honey Walnut Prawns was my FAVORITE of the night! I have tried these types of prawns at many different places and Bei Jing does it right! They mean it when they saw PRAWNS, the shrimp aren’t miserably measly and tiny. They were fairly good-sized and was made of a crispy breaded exterior with juicy, tender shrimp hiding inside. The walnuts and honey mayo sauce were succulent. I am having dreams about this dish again tonight. Szechuan Spicy Chicken was also pretty tasty. It was an upscale version of popcorn chicken! There was like 20 red chili pepper pieces to every 10 pieces of chicken haha. It was just funny to look at, but the spice level is no joke. The breaded chicken itself was not too spicy and I thoroughly enjoyed the crispiness of the bread and chicken. Chicken was not dry either, much appreciated! Overall our take-out amounted to around $ 30 but it was well-worth it! We opted to cook white rice at home and saved a few dollars here and there. I can’t wait to try lunch here if I get the chance! DELICIOUS!

I just find out Beijing is doing a promotion right now! They are serving different valuable food each day. The one I’ve got today was General’s Tao Chicken. The price was $ 8.50, now it’s only $ 6.50! Taste was so good! The chickens were very fresh and their sauce was very delicious! And it was so cheap as well, totally worth my money! Beside foods, they have the best customer service I ever had in my life, waiters were very friendly and patiently to get what we needed. Their decoration was very special and beautiful too! Dining in Beijing just made you feel like you were in China. I strongly recommend this place to everyone, and next time I will bring my friend to there as well.

My husband and I had a delicious lunch here the other day. When the bill came we couldn’t believe our eyes. Affordable Chinese food that isn’t greasy… unheard of! The portions were just right, the price was affordable, high quality food, not greasy. Delicious. I’m really happy we tried this place! Will be there again soon for sure.

This brand new restaurant is not exactly what we we were hoping for, because there are already two Chinese restaurants in Point Richmond. One restaurant is so bad I won’t even mention, the other, little China is an obvious comparison. On atmosphere, Beijing wins hands down. And service is a little friendlier, too. Not that the people at Little China are impolite. but they’re efficient. The food at Beijing is perhaps a hair better, perhaps not — we’ll need to come back for dinner to see. The lunch menu is very close to Little China’s, which is unfortunate, because variety is what we like. I’ll update this review after our next visit.
