One of the worst customer service experiences at a restaurant I’ve ever had. I came in ordered some food. 7 and some change so I told the lady I’m gonna go grab some change in my car to make up the difference … She said no you have to pay before you order anything… I said I want to pay the full amount can you please make the food and I’ll come right back … So she argued with me saying how I wont come back after I place the food order … Well shit how do you accommodate people’s to go orders then if they need to pay beforehand … Anyways she started getting rude and snappy at me staying am I really tripping over it. The fuck, your tone and don’t be condescending to someone who was willing to try out your food … With your smelly old décor.

Shrimp WonTon soup was excellent. The woman serving me (who I’m guessing was the May other reviewers were talking about) was kind and attentive. Don’t let the inside put you off, the food is delicious and the customers are all really sweet. Everyone who left stopped to tell me to enjoy my lunch. They’ve got breakfast too, that looked good!

The location for this restaurant sucks. I had to wait in the car for 10 minutes before picking up my order because a crackhead was in front of the door yelling and blocking everyone who was trying to come in. The food is just okay, it’s not the worst and it’s not the best i’ve had. I would recommend the Shrimp with scrambled egg over rice. Also, be sure to place your order 20 mins ahead of the time you tell them that you’re going to pick it up or else you’ll have to wait an additional 5 – 10 mins. Oh, and their lunch specials are $ 5.50/$ 6.00 if you pay be credit card.

Of course, I am a soup fanatic so naturally I always get the wonton soup with barbecue pork. It is not super authentic like I am used to, but it is still really good. it has lots of mixed vegetables in it, as well as good son tons. The eggrolls are super huge, filled with season to cabbage. The pot stickers were not that good. Lots of filling, but very bland. The crab puffs are full of cream cheese, and although I saw a few chives in it, there is really no seasoning or flavor. It taste like straight up cream cheese. My friend had breakfast, and he said the pancakes there were great. They look very good, i’m just not a breakfast kind of person. The lady that works there is so very sweet, and the cook sometimes comes out to help with orders. Very nice people, I’m glad I found this place. Also, you can order breakfast Chinese food or dinner all day.

Yes please, I need to go back again! We decided on this place as we were waiting for Amtrak in Richmond because we were starving after just getting back into the country and Unilocalers raved about it. What can I say, this place is just awesome!
First, all of the menu items are very inexpensive. Then, they have HUGE portions. Those two things alone would normally make it a great find, but then you taste the AMAZING food and you are hooked. We ordered a few things and every bite was just wonderful. The staff, the owners, were so sweet and kind and patient with us (and all of their customers) that we could tell they love what they do! We still had leftovers (a ton of them), which made a great meal for a couple nice homeless people we met.
I would HIGHLY recommend Joy Café, we definitely can not wait to go back!

Excellent café for the price. I especially enjoyed the ox tails which is difficult to locate in other restaurants and only available on I think Wednesdays and Thursdays. Service is excellent with husband and wife as owners and operators. Recommend highly.

Low-​key, family-​run restaurant. It’s located in the heart of Richmond near Richmond BART. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this restaurant earlier today while we were heading home from the BART. We were hungry and I am too lazy to cook for dinner. Despite my reluctance (because of the series of horrible experiences I had with the food around Richmond), we finally decided to give this restaurant a try.
\We were greeted warmly by the people inside. The staff consists of 3 people, May and her husband Ivan and the cook. There weren’t any people inside which made me assume that the food was bad but boy I was wrong! Their menu consists of typical asian fusion food (rice plates, fried rice, wonton, etc). HOWEVER, they do serve your traditional all-​american meals as well. They have burgers, fries, steaks, etc and I was really impressed with the number of selections they have as I flip through their menu.
The place is a bit small but it’s very clean. They have a 32″ inch flat screen mounted by the bar area (yes, they have this 50’s counter/​bar area) which was awesome because you feel like you’re at home watching BBT while eating your meal.
The food is REALLY good & CHEAP. Rice plates I think was $ 5 something which in my opinion, is really cheap considering the servings they give you. I had ice cream for dessert ($ 1.50 for 2 scoops of banana nut w/​wheap cream) and it was really tasty! Dinner rolls are homemade which is awesome too…
I can go on and on about this restaurant but I gotta prepare for my finals. I suggest that you should really give it a shot one time if your around the area. :)
