Been going to this chain, all the Richmond locations and even in Tidewater for over 20 years. Just going down hill. Things change I know but everything used to be fresh. The Cole slaw, hush puppies, even the cocktail sauce used to be freshly made in house. It’s just frozen fried food and I guess the good old days of doing things are gone. hopefully they still cut the fish but looking at the size I think thats now more a glorified fish stick.

Okay, so this is a fast food restaurant review(shudders) but it has to be done. You probably think I am nuts for giving any fast food restaurant four stars especially since I’ve given fancier, sit down places less stars. Well, was my Captain D’s delicious? Yes. Would I choose Captain D’s over the Hard Shell or the Boathouse? No, I’m not crazy. But, would I choose Captain D’s over other fast food restaurants? Absolutely, well deserving of four stars(maybe five) in the fast food category alone. I pass by this location a lot and I’ve noticed the drive-thru is always busy and there are many cars parked there, which is always a good sign. I decided to give this place a try for lunch one day. I went inside and was greeted promptly upon entering the door. Everyone was very friendly throughout my visit. I ordered a $ 5 lunch special, which came with 2 pcs. of fish, fries, and two hushpuppies. It also included a drink, so you can’t really beat the price. Although you walk up to place your order, someone brings your food to the table along with tartar and cocktail sauces, utensils, and butter. The fish was piping hot and crispy as were the hushpuppies. Delicious and satisfied my fish craving. The fries were just okay, they were lukewarm and bit flimsy for my liking. An employee kept checking on me throughout the meal and even threw my trash away at the end of the meal. This location was also extremely clean. Overall, pretty pleased with my visit.

Captain D’s has been around since ’69 — they pride in themselves being the ‘go-to destination for affordable seafood.’ I’ve seen some locations while traveling, so I was curious in trying them out. Their menu offers items such as Cajun fish tenders, clamp strips, tilapia, fish sticks, shrimp, batter-dripped fish, etc. I had their Clam Strips and Fried Shrimp meal for $ 3.99(no sides included); the clam strips were fried nicely, but they were just way too sweet for me(maybe the clams were on the sweeter side?); I also think they use a different batter for these. The shrimp was really good, as they were nice and crispy. Service was very friendly and with a smile, and they actually also bring over your order with the cocktail sauce — very nice! There are plenty of seats in the area, and it kind of looks like a sit-down restaurant(but you order first). A lot of locals seem to be doing to-go orders and pick-ups. I’m glad I was finally able to check this place out! :D +yummy fried shrimp! +Clam strips are on the sweeter side

When I crave a good fish dinner, i go to capn d’s. their peices are reasonable, and the menu has something for everyone. I chose the friedfish dinner, came with 2 sides and a breadstcik. A little hot sauce took it to the next levl and my stomach was happy… This is a great quick little seafood spot.
