Champps is a nice restaurant for the sports fan. If there’s a big game, you’ll be sure to find it on the television screen. The food is mediocre and nothing is great but nothing is bad either. You’ll find cold beer and liquor treats at your request while the service is probably one of the better things you’ll find here. My big disappointment is that the GM isn’t willing to switch games for customers bc they have a «set schedule» which isn’t publicized to my understanding.

The best thing I can say about this place is the location is pretty ideal, right next to the parking lot, but not in the main flow of traffic like other big restaurants in the mall. I usually only go to Champps once or twice a year… usually to meetup with a friend or colleague. The food & service are just«ok». It’s a bit pricey for a sports bar, and heavy on the calories(ask your waitress for the«nutritional content» menu… you’ll be shocked). My most recent visit was during their happy«hour»(3 – 7 p.m.). Draft beers and rail drinks are discounted during this time, and most appetizers are $ 5. My colleague ordered the Chicken Satay, which looked pretty good and not too decadent. I made the mistake of trying the Crab Bread, which turned out to be just a spicy pizza on french bread… and not very good. Even though there were few patrons in the bar or restaurant area during our visit, our waitress only checked up on us a couple times, and never cleared our dirty plates or empty bottles of beer… until I placed them on the empty table next to us. As other reviewers have noted, the restaurant can get quite noisy, and in spite of the dim lighting, I’ve never found it to be very«cozy/relaxing» feeling. I think that may be in part because all the bar area seating is on tall chairs, and even most of the tables in the non-bar area are on a raised platform… making you feel like you’re on display. In summary, Champps isn’t a bad restaurant/bar, but if you’re looking for good food, good service, or a cozy/intimate restaurant… there are better choices.

I came to Champps during the Army vs Navy game. It was crowded, but we were seated immediately. I shall dive straight into the review. The Good: Service. The server was knowledgeable about the menu, gave her honest opinion about some of the dishes and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. The Bad: Prices: Most of the things on the menu are expensive for a restaurant that is anything but 5 stars. I ordered the Tuscan Salmon and it cost $ 16.99. I could understand if the portions were huge, but 75% of the dish was composed of mushrooms, peas and diced tomatoes. Taste: The salmon was luke warm and it was under seasoned. I would have sent the dish back to get something else but after seeing the 20⁄20 special on the service industry, I tend not to make any restaurant do more work than they have to. Overall: There was nothing particularly special about Champps. To me, its just a bigger version of Applebees. A sports bar with food that is primarily heated up in a microwave if not deep fried. Add the expensive prices and you have a restaurant I probably wont go back to for a while. TWOSTARS..

I usually never go to a restaurant on a Saturday evening, especially after 7PM, but we were out and I wanted to go somewhere that myself, my wife and 4(yes 4) kids could find something they would like, which almost never happens. We got there and there was a little wait, but I’m use to that with a party of 6. I was pleasantly caught off guard when one of the hostesses came out and asked what number I had to check where we were in line(I had only been there for like 7 minutes max!). Good start so far. Oh, and did I mention that this was the night of a big UFC Pay-per-view fight that they were showing, and the place was crowded? We were seated fairly quickly, and food and drink orders were taken and served very swiftly. I never felt rushed the whole time we were there. Our waiter even found time to check on us at least five times during dinner on this busy night. I’ve been to other restaurants on a big«game» night, and been completely ignored because I had kids and wasn’t drinking like a fish. I will go back again, maybe not on a fight night with the kids, but everything was great, food was excellent for the price. I recommend the Kobe sliders and the Sam Adam’s beer battered fish and chips and my wife loved sharing the BBQ Tripple play with EVERYONE at our table(it was freakishly huge, but in a good way).

I usually come to Champps Restaurant and Bar to watch football or grab a quick bite to eat if I’m shopping at the mall. Champps is located by Saks Fifth Avenue at Stony Point Mall. Champps Restaurant and Bar has a lot of televisions throughout the restaurant. On Sundays, Champps Restaurant and Bar can become crowded. If you want to watch a certain game, the server will seat you in the appropriate section for that game. If a special event is showing like UFC or Boxing, the cover is usually expensive compared to other sports bars($ 15).The drinks are solid. Champps Restaurant and Bar has some good food. The loaded nachos and potato chips are my favorite. The turtle cheesecake is delicious. The service is average. Champps Restaurant and Bar has patio seating for customers. Champps has a social atompshere. There’s plenty of parking outside the restaurant. If you are looking to watch sports or grab a quick bite to eat at the mall, Champps Restaurant and Bar is a good choice. I give Champps Restaurant and Bar a 3.5 rating.

Well I see a lot variations in the reviews here. But we happened to be at the Stony Point mall and I was getting a little hungry. So I told my wife this place was a hit or a miss, and she said lets give it a shot. Well when we walked in we were greeted right away and shown to our seats. While we were looking the menus our waitress ask for our drink orders. And our drinks arrived quick so then we placed our order. It took a bit long for our food to arrive but when it did it was nice and hot so it was worth the wait. But my burger was killer, I had to press it down(you know smash it down) just so I could eat the thing. But I will say it was one of the best burgers I’ve had in a very long time. And the onion rings were ok but I’ve had better. But if you just want to drink some beers and catch a game this is the spot. As they have lots of TV’s around showing different games so you are bound to find your game showing here. So I rolled the dice and came out well. Be warned if you go here it is hit or miss on the food, but when they hit they hit.

Champps is a sports bar with plenty of room for catching your favorite sports team in action. It’s usually not packed unless there’s a major event like pay-per-view boxing matches or VCU men’s basketball(go Rams!) playing in the NCAA tournament. The happy hour specials are an excellent deal, with cheap drinks and platters of large portions. Staff is typically friendly and managers are always visible, if not asking about your service.

I love this restaurant! The food is great and I’ve always felt welcome! They have great appitizer deals and it’s a fun place to go watch the big game. They have a wide variety of meals to choose from, something to appeal to everyone! I have been there several times and the food and service were great. I’ll be heading back again soon!

Well, for starters I will not be reviewing their food. I went in with my girlfriend on a recent Saturday afternoon after a fairly long day of shopping for a suit(and some other things) at Stony Point. We were both famished and just looking for something delicious to eat and maybe relax and catch some of the US Open and college football. It was about 3:30 — 4 o’clock and since Flemings wasn’t open yet, we tried Champps. We were seated near a table showing the tennis and given menus. Due to the time, the majority of the clientele(not that busy) were bar-goers watching football. Promptly, one of the bartenders came over and got us some waters and said her and another girl would be taking care of us. Nobody came back to check on us after that. We waited a good 15 minutes or so, while extremely hungry, and not a thing. We were not in a secluded area, we were right near everything. In fact, the«other» girl was right by us doing next to nothing. She even walked by 5 – 6 times, avoiding eye contact, and said nothing. The bartender was equally not busy and just hamming it up with people at the bar. We were so frustrated and hungry I decided this business wasn’t worthy of my money even if it is delicious. We left shortly thereafter and probably won’t go back again. Pretty pathetic on their part considering the lack of business at the time.

Your basic sports bar food & atmosphere. Food was pretty good, but the service wasn’t. While we had 3 different Managers stop by and ask if everything was okay, we only saw our waitress twice. And it was not croweded at all.

Went here to watch the U of R game. Hadn’t been in a while, and all in all, I’d say this place is just fine, but nothing special. Let me preface, on this occasion it was PACKED. Service was fine, but by no means good. Our waitress came by and took my friends’ order, I hadn’t even looked at the menu yet, but said I did want to order something in a minute or two. She left for like 10 minutes, brought my friend’s food, said nothing to me, and didn’t come back until my friend had finished hers to ask if I wanted something. Her mozzarella sticks were fresh, but nothing special. I got an order of fries, which arrived lukewarm with a kind of gross dipping sauce. Beers also came kind of slowly. $ 3.75 tall Miller Lites was an okay price. But, like I said, the place was pretty busy. So, while I wouldn’t say it sucked, it also was nothing special. I’d go back to watch a game, but not just to eat.

I had a terrible visit to this restaurant. I mean, it could have been better, but I guess we were just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Any-who, the evening started off well enough. We decided on Champps after reviewing the menu for the restaurant. We went in and, since we were pretty early for dinner, we were able to be seated right away. Then the trouble started. Our hostess led us to a small booth. We were in a party of 6. But, like good customers, we all squished together and sat in the booth. After, like, 10 minutes, though, we realized that we could not go through the entire dinner that way. So we asked out server if we were allowed to move. He said, «Of course!,» so we switched over to another table that was close to our own but was a little bigger. Our server than took our drink orders and went about his business. A few minutes later, a very rude, very snooty waitress walked up to us and said,“What in the world are you guys doing!!! That is NOT the table that I put you at!” We were like, «Are you kidding us?» So we told her that we were wayyy too cramped at our previous table and since the restaurant was practically empty we thought we should be able to move. We asked our server and he said that it was okay. She then said, «Why would you ask THESERVER? He has no idea how to seat people!» She then proceeded to pick up our drink glasses and move them for us back to the original table in an incredibly rude way. It truly was ridiculous. So, hesitantly, we dragged ourselves back to the small cramped table. Then, to make matter worse, the entire night we saw all the hosts and hostesses working there glare at us in a rude manner and whisper about us. But, the icing on the cake had to be when a bus lady came to the table we had moved from and gave us the death stare to end all death stares. She then stared at us while she cleaned the table, using harsh movements(because she was soooooo angry with us). Finally when she was done, she slammed a «reserved» thing down on the table, which turned out to be stupid because no one came to sit at that table(or any other table) the entire time we were there. The whole thing was incredibly strange. We had no idea what we had done that was so wrong. Oh, and I didn’t even say anything about the food. First, our appetizer(which was nachos) came out lukewarm and sort of stale tasting. But, and this being the only good side, my food was actually good. I ordered some sort of cheese pasta(I can’t really remember the name) and was very pleased with it. That is the only reason why this restaurant got 2 stars. Overall, I would say avoid this restaurant unless every other restaurant at Stony Point is full or closed. The people who work there are incredibly rude and the food is okay(the rest of the people I was with said that their meal was not really that good).
