Too Political Trivia was the only buzz kill… leave that &$^# out of my brewery, trivia guy.

Love that this brewery has nice long hours! They have a great selection of yummy beers (Love the ones from the wine barrels!) And a fun lively atmosphere right in Carytown.

I have been to all of the breweries in Richmond and the surrounding area, this is one of my favorites. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The beer is great and they have several rotation specialty beers. The Tripel is my favorite!
If you like craft beer this place is a must visit.

Great place for that after work cold one.

The St Rostov is a very good take on a brown. I recommend it.
They do flights, as many half pours as you want. That’s how we covered the ground necessary to walk out with a growler.
No food but they encourage brining food in. Plenty of options close by.
And hey… pet friendly is a plus for me too.

Garden Grove is our favorite brewery in all of Richmond. It’s got a great local vibe and is always on the bleeding edge of new beers. They are not afraid to try new things and always have a fresh lineup. They have a great Tuesday night jam session along with beer pairing menus and a welcoming atmosphere. Their staff is the most knowledgable in the region and are always willing to talk with you and super friendly. They are DOG FRIENDLY, all pooches welcome inside and out. We love garden grove!

Amazing. Great selection of house brewed beers of all kinds of styles, including some truly unique ones. All were delicious and available in a variety of sizes and prices, with each tier being extremely fairly priced. I love it here!

The ginger ale is outstanding for those of us who can not imbibe alcohol. Best ginger ale I’ve ever had!

This place has some of the best tasting beers in Richmond! They do a food and beer pairing event every other Monday, which is a great deal, too. Great customer service. The prices are kind of high, but you get what you pay for.

stopped in as they opened saturday morning ²⁄₂₇. very cool use of the space that already existed. sat down at the bar, nice selection of beers, the bartender was very helpful and very engaging.

I’ve only been once. I like the atmosphere at garden grove, it is brightly lit and very open and social. It’s a fun place to hang out.

Love this brewery! They had def a nice wide variety of beer. I had a few favorites, but I love how each beer I tasted it never tasted too close to the last beer I tried.
It’s located on the strip of Cary town. Which is convenient. Walk through the area then grab a nice cold beer! Comfy chairs/​couches/​and a small little arcade area in the back.
They don’t sell their beers in the store, so you have to go in to try them!

This small batch brewing company is a great experience. It’s a bring your own food/​order delivery or select from their packaged snack options and then sip away style. Their serving options vary from a tasting glass to a growler fill. We tried 6 of their currently on tap options and really enjoyed 5 of our selections. The sixth would probably please someone else’s palate though, so they were all good. They change up their menu frequently and have a welcoming set up! We are excited to return.

The ambience/​design deserves a ⁴⁄₅. I absolutely love the interior. DIfferent for a typical brewery in town, yet very cool. The first section has an aluminum ceiling and the second half has a wood plank ceiling. Also, the employees were very friendly and super informative. For context, I went to this location for the Roosevelt beer dinner.
The beer deserves a ¾. It was good. Not amazing, but was definitely good. I really liked the one called 3 fingers or something like that.
Will definitely be returning for a good beer at a cool spot with friends.

Staff is always super friendly and knowledgeable. They can tell you all about any of their beers and the ones I’ve met are also great for general bar chatting.
Their beer selection is AWESOME and generally really well-​rounded. I’m an unapologetically «girly» drinker. Their sparklers never disappoint. Additionally, their saison is baaaangin. But just because they can satisfy a lady, don’t think this is just some floofy brewery with exclusively fruity or flowery drinks– their IPAs are excellent too (according to my boyfriend, at least). They’ve generally got a good selection of all types of beer and could probably find one to suit any taste. Plus they’ve got some quads on right now that could knock anyone on their butt (does Unilocal allow curse words? IDK, but I’ll play it safe).
On top of all this, they also offer a non-​alcoholic choice that is still «special». I took my teetotaler mom here and she LOVED the ginger ale. She generally avoids bars and breweries because she gets stuck drinking coke or soda water, but she was really happy with her drink here.
Lastly, it’s worth emphasizing that you can bring in any food you want! I like to bring a slice from Mary Angela’s to go with my beer, but am planning to get delivery through Quickness next time I’m there. Pork belly banh mi from the Naked Onion? Yes please.

The husband and I have not been going out much lately unless it is to a brewery (or four). We had to be in Richmond for a day, so we decided to hit up a couple of breweries. Out of the ones we were able to go to (we didn’t get to visit HardyWood because of their ridiculous hours, and sadly didn’t make it to Ardent, this was the best one. They had eclectic beer with a pretty good range to please everyone. They also make ginger beer which was fantastic. I was impressed with most of their beer and really enjoyed the brewery itself.

What a cool, low key spot to just chill. Life can’t be go, go, go all the time. Sometimes you just need to kick back with a beer and play some games with friends. This is the kind of place where after one visit, everyone knows your name. I got such good vibes it’s ridiculous.
My boyfriend even had the nerve to say «I really really like this place. I’m coming back (& bringing 2 friends)». What?! He is the most laid back guy with no really strong opinions about food or alcoholic drinks. He’s simple and tends to enjoy everything but very rarely gets excited or says out loud that he really, REALLY enjoyed something. But Garden Grove Brewing sucked us in and now we’re addicted. Whoever’s idea it was to put this smack dab in the middle of Carytown was a genius. I imagine haggard women stopping in for an ice cold beer after an afternoon of lunch and shopping in the summer heat. Or a guy dropping in to drink a beer while he waits for his lady to finish shopping. Or even a family coming to celebrate an occasion. Whatever the case may be, this place rules!
Besides the vibe being so low key, the bartender (is that what they’re called at breweries?) was superb! He was super nice, informative, and attentive to our group. He definitely made sure we were well taken care of. They have tons of games and an open space that has way more seating than any other brewery I’ve been to. Cool points for that.
All of this is coming from someone who does not like beer at all. I was straight up to the bartender about that and he still managed to hook me up. I ended up getting the Sparkler which tasted like a mix of cider and wine. It was super tasty and I drank it to the last drop!
I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

$ 47 for two (4 serving) flights and two pints? Touché, Garden Grove. Touché.

The irony? I don’t drink beer. But their hand-​made ginger beer (non alcoholic) is divine. It cost about as much as a soda, so that wasn’t bad. My roommate enjoyed his flat of 6 beers for $ 15. All around it was awesome. If you want a meal you can take it in with you. And Philly Steak and Gyros is right next door. And Döner Kebab.

The beer selection rotates, so if you don’t like the styles on tap today, try again a week from now.
I enjoyed the Carytown Brown, it was fairly tasty. They had some other styles on as well that were solid but not mind blowing.
The staff was friendly and helpful, the atmosphere the same. There are many excellent breweries in Richmond, and Garden Grove looks to fit right in.

The good: The atmosphere and the layout are really cool. The staff were helpful and friendly and it seemed like a great place to chill out with friends. They offer a very limited menu but will happily take delivery or take out orders from nearby restaraunts.
The bad: The beer*. When I visited there, they had the Saison, Porter, and Stout on tap. I’d heard great things about the Brown but they were out. Not that unexpected for a new establishment.
The Saison was a decent beer. I’d drink it again, but I felt it was missing something. Not a complete Saison. The Porter was another decent beer, but nothing stuck out about it. It was touted as a salted caramel flavor and you could definitely taste the hints of salt. Again, the beer got me halfway there but still wasn’t the greatest. The Stout was just not good. It had a very kitchen cleaner after taste. I would not order it again.
*I fully realize that beer tasting is very subjective, so please take it with a grain of salt. I’m just someone that has home brewed a bunch and really enjoys a good craft beer.
The really bad: The prices. We paid $ 9 for a flight of 3 small beers. I would guess they were either 4oz or 6oz. That’s a lot. For a flight of 3 beers. I assumed that was their full price when they had the 6 beers available. But a friend of mine went before they ran out and said they were charging $ 18 for a flight of their full compliment of 6. $ 18?! That’s insane.
I understand that businesses need to make money but I have many friends in the microbrewing industry and this flies against the things that they say regarding where the best margins on. The beer produced is the highest margin product and the flights should be used to attract clients and retain them with their spectacular taste. THEN you charge $ 6 to $ 8 for a craft pint and make your killer margins and lion’s share of your revenue.
I rarely get impassioned enough about a place to write a Unilocal review, but the prices of their flight sent me over the edge. I didn’t think any of their current beers were good enough to warrant getting a pint, but I’m afraid of what I would have paid for one. $ 12?
I plan on going back to get a pint of the Brown since everything I heard is positive, but their remaining beers need some work.
