Anytime I try a new place I order a Reuben. Joe prepared it exactly as it should, the seeded rye toasted slices, dripping with melted butter, the piled up shaved corned beef, the hot melting in your mouth sauerkraut. I add a 6th star for asking me if I wanted my thousand island dressing in the sandwich or on the side, and a 7th for cutting the sandwich in half. Definitely a place to come back to and try other items on the menu.

Cheap, but adds up. One of the worst fries I’ve had. Thick flavorless, ground beef patty. Strange looking cheese. Very little chili on burger. Okay limeade.

Very few vegetarian options. Staff was nice and service was quick. The food was decent but definitely not a stand-out of Italian.

Great food, super friendly service, seemingly never busy in the evenings, and great atmosphere with excellent music. Anything I get here is pretty much the bomb diggity. Greek salads are excellent with and without anchovies. Their dressing(perhaps from a bottle) is solid and the portions are big. For the price, the level of service and the atmosphere I will always enjoy Red Door so long as the trend continues. I will say the no-refills policy seems a bit weird, but hey, drink water and save money and calories! However, I have to ding it 1 star because of that though. Still a solid 4 stars.

Great food and great service. Nice little mom and pop place. Had the lasagne and it was very good.

Friendly staff. We ate here for dinner and had our food within 15 minutes. We even ordered a meal to go so our daughter could have dinner after her class. Was brought out when we were done eating and paying. I wouldn’t say it’s the greatest food ever but for the price you can’t beat it.

Unassuming diner that’s easy to walk past but hard to forget once you’ve eaten here. Looks like an old diner from the outside but has obviously had a recent facelift with interesting exposed brick and tin ceiling touches. The sign indicates this places specializes in Greek and Italian fare but it also has a variety of good olé, meaty, American sandwiches. I had one of the special of the day items which was hot open face roast beef which was amazing. The roast beef was cooked to perfection and thinly sliced onsite. It’s served on hearty Texas toast and what tasted like homemade mashed potatoes. Apparently, turkey(also sliced onsite) is also a special on certain days when the gravy is made. Mike had the Greek spaghetti which was pretty amazing as well. It was standard spaghetti noodles but served with fresh diced tomatoes, feta crumbles then sprinkled with herbs. We both had side salads which were standard iceberg but the dressings tasted homemade as well. Server was extremely friendly, personable and attentive.

Love the ambience of brick walls and embossed metal tin ceiling. Prompt attention from our waitress and she even explained the subs are made on their own rolls and the sandwiches are from meat cut daily. I liked the turkey sandwich with chips on the side. And our waitress checked back several times. Good value for money! And, I loved this place so much that we came back… this time they even made me a turkey reuben which wasn’t on the menu !

I have walked by this place so many times! It’s legit people. And as far as lunch fair, it’s a real steal with plenty of options under $ 10. The main focus is on Greek & Italian, so yes, the menu is a little all over the place venturing into Tex-Mex and deli style sandwiches. I went for the greek sampler and splurged at $ 10.50 and it was a generous helping of two spanokopita, a small gyro, a side salad, dolmades, and a dinner roll. The bread was fresh as was the spanikopita and the italian dressing had a nice tang to it and seemed homemade. The takeout order came within five minutes and the staff was super friendly. I would recommend it for a quick, no-frills lunch. The staff was really friendly.

I always like the Red Door. I know the food is home made and fresh. I love the bread. Not too fancy but worth a try. Been eating here for over twenty years and still go back when in Richmond…

I adore the Red Door. It is a cozy, affordable lunch spot where the staff remembers your name and is happy to customize your order. I work downtown and think this is hands down the best value in the area. The cookies are enormous and always worth picking up on your way out. I was puzzled by a previous review, that seemed to suggest that an $ 8 lunch plate should warrant fine Greek dining(why someone would come to a diner for fine Greek dining is also beyond me). Red Door is also non-smoking now.

I decided to ignore the current reviews(2) & try our 4 myself. Came @ lunch… seems promising as there were a fair # of local customers, including some cops(& we know they know the spots). I was greeted by a nice woman & quickly sat. Asked the server if the soups really were homemade… which he responded with a very honest yes & recommended the clam chowder without hesitation… good & yes homemade with lots of clams. Got the Reuben. Good looking & again equally tasting. While they(like most) don’t seen to realize a Reuben is made with Russian dressing(not thousand island) I did greatly appreciate the fact the bring you the dressing to apply yourself. For you Reuben lovers, you know lots of places overdue the dressing. As for value, this place is right on he money. Compared to some other places downtown who are pimping NY-style sandwiches, they are the 1st I’ve found that comes close… There is another deli(not going to mention their names) that is an old downtown staple who doesn’t hold a candle to this place! Now, they of course have lots of things on he menu… It’s not just a sandwich shop… In fact, it’s not really a sandwich shop at all. Check these guys out!

I’ve had the worst chicken noodle soup of my life at this place. It came out and I was really just shocked. It was like a mixture of cream of chicken, noodles, and dishwater. yuck. The side salad I ordered was also really sad, plus no fat free dressing, and she tried to pass off oil & vinegar as fat free. LADY, it’s OIL. The menu variety is definitely something to see, it’s almost alarming. Nothing really stands out at me here either… It’s all run of the mill. However, their giant cookies look pretty appetizing.

We had grand ambitions of wandering to the third street diner for lunch, but the crazy heat last weekend made us rethink that plan for someplace a little closer. After wandering a few blocks and only finding a small deli we ducked into the closest hotel to get some recommendations from the concierge. He told us that there are very few places in the area that are open for lunch(I think that’s slightly weird) but that The Red Door was within walking distance and cheap! So off we went. I was a little leery of the fact that they specialize in Italian/Greek/American food, and that they also had tex-mex and bbq on their menu, but we decided to be brave and give the place a try. They do allow smoking in the restaurant, but I guess I’ve lived in VA too long since I didn’t find it all that offensively strong. My friend ended up ordering the pita pizza and I had the bbq pork sandwich. The pita pizza was interesting, the pita made for a really soft crust. I thought my sandwich was actually quite good, I’d definitely get it again. It came with coleslaw, pickles and chips, although you could pay more for fries. Both of our meals came out to under $ 5, so it was a great deal. Not a fancy place I’d want to bring my parents or a place I’d seek out specifically if I was in Richmond. But if you’re in the area and want something cheap and quick it fits the bill.
