I’ve heard about Godfreys for a year or so but was never able to go. We went on Sunday afternoon. We were sadly disappointed. The unsmiling owners were all business –changing out large bills for ones– not one bit personable– strictly business– The waiters were more fun than anything else there. I agree, the crab benne had brown, fishy, «tasted like canned», crabmeat on top. The«actors» were all either very overweight, old, one was even unshaven, and seemed to do NOTHING except literally RUN down the runway and collect money– it seemed like that was their main goal – They almost seemed bored– a few times we were waving money to get a picture and they never even looked our way. Just hurried down the runway… I’ve read where the MC was hysterical. I didn’t even see one except a voice announcing the next Queen. Several people in our group had been there numerous times, and said this show was awful. Guess that will be my FIRST and LAST time there.

It’s a great alternative to your normal brunch. Reasonably priced, great food and entertainment. Can’t beat that combo. I would recommend to friends!

My friend and I were in Richmond visiting family and decided to try out Godfrey’s. Overall it was a lot of fun! The music was fun – a lot of hip hop, which I loved. There were so many beautiful, highly fashionable people. On the downside, everyone there was such great dancers that I felt a little intimidated to just let go and dance.

I’ve been here about 6 times for Drag brunch, once for the Sunday night cabaret, and 3 times to the bar. Drag brunch is what I’m reviewing for. The entertainers range from awesome to just plain good, but the last time I went one of the drag queens was Missy Elliot and totally stole the show. The emcee was awesome(see pic with fringe) and the service was phenomenal(see pic of guy on my lap doing a shot with my table). My only complaint was the food. One of the reasons I look forward to Godfreys was the crab eggs benny and is wasn’t as good as it usually is. Crab meat was not lump crab but fishy and it had a big oily piece of cheddar on it. I ate it cause I had too with all the drinks I was pounding, but that’s the reason for this being 4 star and not 5. All in all a fun fun day and I highly recommend anyone coming to RVA to check it out!

I went for one of their dinner drag shows and it was a ton of fun. I don’t think I would eat their again but queens are legit. The place itself is seedy as hell. I did have free tickets to their Thursday night male review so I went. We were lectured for not«being enthusiastic enough» and they ended up not doing the show. Their were only 5 of us and some had paid an admission fee. I think they just didn’t want to be there. Then someone with sticky fingers took my phone back stage. On top of bar tab that included a run and coke $ 8.75, a rail drink. Sketchy set up.

DRAGBRUNCH/DINNER! Need I say more? I totally will anyway. This place is so great, with helpful and friendly staff and very sweet and beautiful queens. I came here my first weekend in RVA and felt right at home. Also, their food is beyond delicious!

One of my close med school friends invited me to go along to drag brunch at Godfrey’s during one of her final days in Richmond before moving back to California since it was on her bucket list. Fortunately, I had not been either! We made reservations about a week in advance, and the 11AM show was already full so we had to reserve the 2PM showing. They recommend arriving around 1:45PM for the 2PM show, and you basically wait indoors in a «holding room» while they set up the dining/show area, then are admitted party by party(they will call out the name of the person whose name the reservation is under). While you are waiting, it is a good time to get larger bills exchanged for $ 1 bills, which you will need for tipping during the show. I later regretted not exchanging my $ 20 bill since I only had three ones in my wallet; fortunately, someone else in our party later broke a $ 20 for the table. They also have a quick set of announcements/house rules prior to admission. The actual dining room was a lot smaller than I thought it would be, which explains the need for reservations. You have a few minutes to look over the menu and place drink/food orders before the show begins. Before the first performer, the host(forgot his name, but he was one of the co-owners of Godfrey’s) sized up the crowd a bit with some pointed humor. He also spoke in between each of the acts, and by the end of the event, pretty much every table had been singled out and picked on. I was actually surprised at how little we were called on, but the most memorable comment was referring to us as «foreign exchange students» since we were a table of six Asians. There were four drag performers in total, who took turns performing various numbers while dancing/strutting up and down the halls, collecting tips as they went along. Needless to say, the costumes were quite fabulous, and the drag queens downright feisty. Overall, it was a very fun and enjoyable 2+ hours. In terms of service, we were waited on by the comparatively younger one of the three servers, a pretty cute guy named Michael. He was super smiley and friendly throughout the meal, as well as very attentive. He was great and took a group photo for our table, throwing some shade in jest in the process. ;) As for the food, it was pretty mediocre. I ordered the crab Chesapeake, an eggs benedict dish. The eggs were not as runny as I would have liked, the hollandaise was not too flavorful or rich, and the crab meat(although real) was this strange brownish color. Also, one of my English muffin pieces was pretty tough and hard to cut through with a knife. The dish came served with a side salad of greens, which was decent. I also ordered a fruit/yogurt/granola dish on the side, thinking I would need more food since some Unilocalers mentioned small portions and I was starving considering this was such a late lunch. The yogurt and granola dish was actually a pretty generous portion for $ 6, and was actually the better of my two dishes. As others have mentioned, they don’t split checks but you can pay with multiple cards/a mix of cards and cash. It’s definitely worth experiencing this drag brunch in Richmond, but come for the entertainment not the food!

Make reservations, arrive about 15 minutes early for their brunch show, and bring a decent amount of cash(the staff will exchange you larger bills for $ 1). Upon arrival, we were ushered into a dark, dusty room with all of the other patrons where the MC goes over the«rules» of the show. We were then seated in their main dining area and our server promptly asked for our food and drink orders. –FOOD– The food comes out first come first serve so they try to get you to put in your orders quickly(which was still really difficult since we were all indecisive). I got their crab salad which tasted a little too«fishy» and had some shell fragments in it as well. My food was a major miss but everyone else at my table seemed to enjoy their items. They have a good number of brunch cocktails of which I ordered the Poinsettia and Flirtini. They’re strong, but easy enough to drink and definitely helped to bring down everyone’s inhibitions. –DRAGSHOW– The show was either really dull or really entertaining. Some of the divas/girls just slowly walked around the room plucking money out of everyone’s hands and then took a shot with the MC. I thought that it was just part of their act, but even on their second run, they didn’t do any entertaining. However, the other divas were really eccentric and danced around the room, got all over people, and even showed some pasties! Definitely not for the squeamish, but overall, the more lively divas made the show very enjoyable. –SERVICE– The servers here were friendly, funny, and very attentive throughout the show. They were prompt with our drinks and stopped by multiple times to take our refill orders and to check up on us.

Sundays are such a DRAG at Godfrey’s! Well, that was fun! After seeing Godfrey’s on a list of a «Must Try» restaurants in Virginia, a few of us thought we had to check out this place! Drag Brunch? What a great idea! After placing several phone calls, we were finally able to secure a reservation for Sunday Brunch. Do not even think about showing up without one. The menu is a fairly standard brunch menu with bloody marys, mimosas and such. Prices are reasonable and food is fairly good. I had the bacon bloody mary and a crab benedict. Both were quite nice. But let’s face it, you are there for show and they put on a great one. 4 performers for three hours of your entertainment pleasure. While it may not be for everyone, Sunday Brunch at Godfrey’s is some good bawdy fun.

Came here with a friend yesterday because we had a Groupon. I’d been wanting to check out this RVA institution forever, and it was too fun! Our server Eric was a pro and super sweet. The dancin’ divas were fabulous, of course. And the food was surprisingly good! I thoroughly enjoyed my strong strong strong Spicy Bloody Mary and the delicious shrimp and avocado salad. I’ll definitely be adding Godfrey’s to my roster of fun weekend brunch spots. Others have already said this but it bears repeating: if you can’t take a joke(or colorful language) you will be extremely uncomfortable here. As our delightfully sassy host Natasha Carrington put it in her opening: «If you’re easily offended, you should go ahead and pay your tab now and leave.»

Went here for a Sunday cabaret dinner show. We had groupons which were a SUPER good deal. The place is small so it felt intimate but not crowded. The food was good, the spinach dip was the best appetizer we had(cheese dip leaves something to be desired). I had a steak for dinner which was good, lots of people a our table had crab cakes and said they were delicious. Service was good. Our drinks were always full and our server was very friendly! The MC for the drag show was fabulous. The performers were average. After the show our server was very helpful in separating the check which was good for our party of 8. Drinks were priced as you would expect, a little pricey but not terrible. All in all I would definitely come back!

Tried brunch courtesy of Groupon and was very impressed. The food is MTO and the portions are average. I had the Three cheese omelet and it was on the small side but was accompanied with a nice salad the food was better than expected. The mimosas are very tasty and strong and service is prompt. The shown is truly entertaining. Do not forget to bring cash to tip the entertainers and make reservations at least a week in advance.

I’m a little bit of a Godfrey’s veteran. I’ve been a ton of times to the Sunday drag brunch for all different occasions. People regularly go for birthdays, bachlorettes, or just to have a wild time with friends((be careful taking straight guys there as long as they don’t mind being embarrassed). It’s a great place to take out of town FUN friends which is the reason for my last two visits. The drag queens always put on an awesome show and the MC is always hysterically dirty(might want to leave grandma at home unless she’s a wild woman). You will need lots of 1’s to tip the dancers but they are very accomodating in exchanging your cash for 1’s at the club. The wait staff has always made our visits even more fun and the food is pretty good. I read one review of the Eggs Benedict that said it was plan and had too much Hollandaise however I think it tastes great and love mine with too much hollandaise anyway. One of my friends got the steak salad which she was said was great.

This is the place that changed my marriage. It made my marriage more complete. The food was scrumptious. Now my man expects me to cook and serve him the exact same way. The drinks were wonderful.

This place is ridiculous in a good way. PROS: Amazing performances! Friendly and fun staff and bartenders A hilarious time CONS: A little small Food takes a while for larger parties — — — — — — — — — WHAT I GOT: Eggs Benedict without ham($ 9) Berry Bowl with Granola($ 6) Crab Salad($ 12) A couple drinks Total for two people: $ 40.00 (REMEMBER to bring dollar bills, or at least cash if you want to tip the performers!) WHAT I THOUGHT: If you want to have a good time on a Sunday afternoon, hit up Godfrey’s brunch. We made reservations two days prior for two people. I recommend making reservations earlier for parties larger than that. My friend and I ate just breakfast, so we were starving. We fortunately got assigned seats at the bar, so our food was placed in first and our food 20 minutes in, which was really nice. We noticed all the other tables had to wait much longer for their food. So if you’re in a big group, don’t come here hungry! You’ll probably be waiting an hour for your food. The performances were AWESOME. Four ladies had 2 – 3 performances each, with wardrobe changes in between. I don’t want to describe them because it’s something you just have to experience yourself. The performers are fantastic dancers and entertainers, and carry themselves very well. Food-wise, this place was OK. The eggs benedict was a little bland and they put way too much hollandaise sauce. The berry bowl with granola should be called«granola bowl with berry» instead. Way too much granola and not enough berry. I did not ask how my friend’s crab salad was. The drinks were so-so. Nothing special. But hey, we’re not really coming here for the food are we? The food is decent, the prices are good, and the entertainment is awesome.

Loved every minute! The ladies were very entertaining. Series of popular songs that make you want to get up and dance. The entertainers are very interactive with the audience. The drinks were fantastically strong. The pork chops were tasty and moist. Very reasonably priced, however you will spend a lot of money in tips on the sexy entertainers! Bring lots of ones! The club after the dinner show was a lot of fun! Overall an outstanding evening!
