It seems as if wherever you go to get sushi, there is always a rule where a workers little kid needs to be running around the resturant, this place is no exception to this rule. Bent forks and no chopsticks, rushed service but a long wait for the food. The sushi appetizer tuna dumping with cream cheese was good. Sushi was nicely presented but nothing tasted outstanding. All pretty bland. Eel was rubbery and slimy(coming from somebody who loves eel). Waitress was not attentive at all, and although we came at least 2 hours before closing it feels as if we came in ten minutes before. The sushi is the equivilant of fast food.

I would probably give this place 2.5 stars if that was an option, but am feeling charitable this evening. I’ve been to this strip mall many times to the Subway or Pizza Hut but have never stopped at Yama Fuji until today. I phoned ahead and was there about 10 minutes later. If it wasn’t for the flashing«open» neon sign in the window I would have assumed they were closed. When I entered the place had a few customers but was very small and very dark. The lady at the desk acknowledged me immediately and went to the back to grab my order. As she was ringing me up she told me there would be a $.30 charge for using a credit card for an order under $ 15. She didn’t really give me an option to offer cash, but whatever. When I arrived home I noticed I was also charged $.50 for«brown» rice. I hate the idea of being nickeled and dimed for small stupid things. Now to the food. The egg drop soup was probably my favorite thing. It was very good. Perfect amount of corn starch and consistency. I also ordered the garlic chicken with«brown» rice. You may wonder why I keep typing«brown» rice, well the reason is because the rice is actually black. I was actually a bit disgusted at first and put a couple of grains in my mouth just to be sure it wasn’t bad. It tasted like usual brown rice, but I couldn’t get past the color. The garlic chicken was ok. They billed it, in the menu, as a spicy dish, but I can tell you there was nothing spicy about it. I don’t know that I’ll try this spot again, but if I do, I will definitely have the egg drop soup and white rice!!!

I love this restaurant. The food always tastes fresh and the prices are better compared to another favorite restaurant of mine, Ichigo Ichie. MYFAVORITEMENUITEMS(so far) ARE: Chicken Hibachi(the chicken pairs so well with that light colored dipping sauce! what is the name of it? I have no idea, but it’s awesome) The meal also comes with fantastic Fried Rice. Their rice is light, soft, flavorful, and you can buy a side of it for only $ 3! Awesome. Their Green Salad with the ginger dressing is great. I could eat it every single day. The Fried Noodles are also great. To me, it tastes just like the lo mein but without all the added veggies and meat. A nice little side item. Plus, it’s way cheaper if all you want is the noodles anyway. It’s literally $ 3. The Sweet & Sour Chicken is delicious. They don’t give you huge chicken fingers, but nice little… nuggets, I guess you could say. But they don’t taste like chicken nuggets. You know, from fast food joints, ick. They are light and fluffy and perfect. I just love them. Ugh, now I’m hungry.

Ordered edamame, chicken and beef teryaki, tempura shrimp and Thai basil chicken. Delivery to Barrington was in under 30 minutes. The driver was courteous, prepared and the food was fresh, hot and perfect!

Ordered on line at 5:30pm. Showed up at 6:00pm. Order was not ready until 6:30pm. As a restaurant that does most of their business either delivery or take-out, this is pretty disappointing. Other than that, great food.

This place is top notch! Friendly staff and the food is fantastic. Reasonable prices and the occasional freebee apps make you feel welcome and appreciated! We are regulars here for a reason as are many of our friends. Check them out. You will be happy you did! Try the tuna dumpling with cream cheese, it’s freakishly delicious !

And updating again to 5 stars now :) This is now going to be our go-to place as our order of Chicken Hibachi, Crab Rangoon, and Wanton soup was hot and fresh. Also the delivery time was so quick on a Friday night.

Sure, five stars for a shopping plaza sushi joint may seem suspect, but hear me out… I’ve been coming here regularly for almost 3 years and in that time I’ve never left dissatisfied. As a disclaimer, I usually only get sushi/sashimi but the hot entrees from the kitchen that I have tried have all been great. The menu offers all the requisite American sushi favorites, prices are great and service is always friendly. That last one is important because I think sometimes customers confuse a language barrier as bad service. That is not the case; speak slower, repeat yourself, do whatever you have to do but honestly, these people just want you to be happy customers, promise. Now, here I am on a Friday night having had such a great time at Yamafuji that I felt it was important that I update my review immediately. Here’s the run down: My husband suggested we come here for sushi but I insisted we go to «that other place» over yonder in Barrington. He relented, we show up at «that other place», get a table and wait… and wait… and wait. Patrons are complaining, the takeout line is 15 people deep and things went down hill real fast. So, we cut our losses, paid for the appetizer we managed to get and headed to Yamafuji a mere 4 miles away which turned out to be a saving grace. Smiling, friendly service; we were seated immediately, the sushi chef chatted us up and proceeded to prepare the most beautiful sushi display for us. Surprisingly, we were presented with a post-sushi snack of salmon stuffed tempura jalapenos, gratis and yet even more, to top off the meal they served us a frozen pineapple filled with refreshing sorbet again, gratis. I realize this sounds like I’m trying to fluff up my experience but I swear it’s exactly how things went. I even joked with my husband before we even got the stuffed peppers or ice cream, that he must have called them and told them he had to prove me wrong since I originally didn’t want to go here. So, I’m going to skip«that other place» from now on, and head straight to Yamafuji for my sushi fix and you should, too.

I love the food! The sushi is good. The Japanese Udon noodles are delicious! I call for delivery pretty frequently. There is one person who takes phone orders who just can’t ever seem to hear me. As a result, the address has been recorded incorrectly a few times. However, the delivery driver is exceptionally nice and the restaurant management has comped items to make up for the service issues. I will definitely continue to order from them.

We ordered take out from here– GROSS! Too fishy, chewy, and rolls fell apart. We won’t be back.

I had been coming here consistently for about a year up until recently. Their food is great, but the service is terrible. I ordered the same thing, two tuna avocado rolls, for pick up almost every time. The first time I ordered it, I picked up only two avocado rolls with no tuna. Naturally, they corrected my order and I went back to pick it up, since I didn’t realize until I got home. The next time I ordered from them I was very clear when I was speaking into the phone to make sure the woman taking my order understood I wanted two TUNA avocado rolls. Somehow, when I arrived(I checked my order in the restaurant this time) my order was two avocado rolls lacking the tuna yet again. This happened one more time, after the two other times. Making this three times in a row that my order had been messed up(within a span of a couple months). So, I took a break from pick up orders and since my family regularly eats here that didn’t seem like a bad idea. We go to the restaurant with our visiting family friends to eat and it was absolutely some of the worst service ever. She didn’t give us any water, was non attentive to the table due to the fact that she was the waitress, hostess, and was helping in then kitchen. My family noticed the bad serviced started occurring after a couple of the waitresses who worked their prior to this particular dining experience stopped working there. It seemed that every time we went in there was a different waitress, as well. Anyways, after that dining experience my boyfriend and I decided to order there one more time. It was pouring rain and flash flood warning, so it was hazardous to drive. At this point, they know my face at Yama Fuji II because I had gone in there very often for dinner and pick ups and such. My order was a valentine roll and a tuna avocado roll and my boyfriend ordered hibachi. I walked in, said I was picking up, gave her my card, signed the receipt, she placed a bag on the counter near me and I asked her before leaving(she was on the phone) if everything was in the bag. She said yes. I get home, and the almost $ 30 of sushi wasn’t in the bag. I called her and asked her to comp my meal because this was the fourth time she had messed up my order for whatever reason and as a loyal customer who had stuck through several encounters of bad service I felt it was a just request, she refused to comp the meal, as she was laughing thinking it was funny and not a big deal, and I respectfully asked for my money back and she chose to give me my money back, not let me keep the food, and I left. Had she let me keep the food, I would absolutely have gone back there to eat and forgiven the situation, but the weather conditions were horrible and this was the FOURTH time my pick up order had been messed up. I find this unacceptable and will not be giving them my business anymore.

Love eating here. Lunch is a great deal. They are always super nice and accommodating. My wife, myself and our kid have eaten here several times. Place is clean, service is friendly, and food is delicious. Wife loves the Sweet Potato Sushi Roll, I love the Pan Fried Dumplings. Fried rice is perfect and Hibachi is spot on. FYI veggies and hibachi meat are tossed in sauce when served. Place is great!

Nice to have some take out sushi close by. And it’s also nice they have a mix of Chinese and Japanese food to order as well. The sweet potato maki roll is something I’ve never had before but it was very good. Their side of fried rice is awesome for the price and you can tell it was made fresh, not thy old hard brown looking fried rice you get at a lot of Chinese take out. I would not order the beef teriyaki again though. The menu said it came with 2 dipping sauces. It only came with one. And for the price, 9 $ you’d expect more than 4 skewers. Flavor was good, just not worth the price.

Best Japanese restaurant I’ve ever been to. Great food at great prices. I love the asian red curry they serve and their hot and sour soup is the greatest I have ever tasted. Great service and very well mannered. My usual experience when I go to other Japanese restaurants is the feelings of being looked down upon or being judged, but not at Yama Fuji. I can come to this restaurant and not feel like I must put up some upscale classy show about myself. I can actually have a casual dinner and place an order regarding my allergies and they take that into considerations and substitute it with something else. Not many asian restaurants do that. If you like duck, try the duck rolls. This place knows how to cook duck perfectly.

I went into Yama tonight for dinner with one other person. As I walked in I was surprised to see how modern and welcoming the décor was! The sign on the outside of the building leaves something to be desired. In fact — if I was going on just aesthetics, I would have overlooked Yama. My companion suggested this place and I am so glad she did! We were seated immediately and our table and surrounds were extremely clean. Our table was already set and the setting was neat and appropriate. Our server came over right away and offered a drink, I suppose they didn’t have any verbal specials because none were offered. Throughout the entire meal our server didn’t seem very interested in our table(and the restaurant was not busy). She was flat and gave short answers /very quick to leave the table. She seemed to personally know a patron that was sitting at the bar. Meh — she was fine. Now onto the DELICIOUSSUSHI! This was really why this place is getting a 4⁄5 rating. We ordered a few different things — California Roll, Shrimp Tempura roll, Sweet Potato Tempura roll and The Dancing Tuna Roll. All were fantastic — the favs were the Dancing Tuna and the Shrimp. We also ordered Miso Soup and it was perfect! It was really a top notch sushi experience. We did not order a dessert but I have to say that it was quite the impressive and tempting selection of very decadent desserts! Can’t wait to give a few a try! The prices were great as well. The specialty rolls were moderately priced $ 10-$ 14 and came with 8 pieces. Most of the other«regular» type rolls were $ 5-$ 9 for a 6 piece. The prices were surprising for the quality — which was high. Overall this is a place I would recommend — mainly because the food was really wonderful. Give it a chance!

I called in an order for my Aunt today. When she went to pick it up, they couldn’t find it. I had to call and tell them what the order was. Upon returning, my Aunt told us she thought the place looked dirty. «Robert Irvine should come and fix that place up.» The restaurant is brand new, it should sparkle. The first time I walked in, I was surprised that a restaurant with«hibachi» in its name doesn’t have one. They have it on the menu, but they cook it in the kitchen and bring it to you on a plate! No show. I’m putting up a picture of today’s take out bonanza. Thai basil chicken wings that were soggy with grease with an inch long feather sticking out of one. I guess it’s not turtle, at least. There’s beef and broccoli and shrimp fried rice which were both fine, although the others thought the beef had a bit too much wiggle, wiggle! Then there’s the sesame chicken. Where to go with that… It’s white meat chicken sliced paper thin and deep fried in batter. It’s in a sweet and sour sauce that’s nice, but they cook it 5 seconds shy of making jerky. I passed out steak knives to cut it and it was still a chore. It’s consistently that way and it shouldn’t, but it’s the best tasting item I’ve had there.

I’ve never been more excited to give 5 stars to a restaurant in all my years. Easily the best sushi I’ve had in Rhode Island. There are so many reasons why I’m giving them 5 stars: the service, the cleanliness, the décor, and of course the food! The prices are good for the quality of food you get. We ordered the valentine roll, spicy salmon roll, spicy seafood, and spicy scallop rolls. All were fantastic with just the right amount of heat. I probably wouldn’t get both the spicy seafood and spicy scallop as they are very similar but highly recommend either. If you are looking for something new to drink try the Japanese Soda! I’m a sucker for anything lycée so that was my favorite kind. I also tried the Strawberry flavor and it was good, not overly sweet. I can’t wait to go back!
